If i reinstall startup disk will i lose my itunes playlist

If i reinstall startup disk to give me more space will i lose my itunes

If you erase the disk then you will lose everything unless you have all your data backed up. However, if you merely do an Archive and Install then your data will not be erased, but this will not save space on the drive. In fact it will end up using about another 10 GBs of space.

  • Will I lose my iTunes playlist if I re-install XP on my PC

I have to wipe my computer and reload Windows XP because of a software problem (on Dell's advice). I am not sure what to do to keep my itunes playlist, several of which I purchased off itunes. Can I save itunes folder and if so what should I save it on?
    Thanks. Need an answer soon.

Yes you will lose everything, so you must save anything you want to keep.
The easiest thing if you have and external HD is to save your iTune folder to it, assuming all your music is in the default loaction.
iTunes 7 also has a backup to DVD feature.
You can also use your iPod, here is an article about using your iPod to move to a new computer, which your new istallation effectively is.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173
I wouldn't recommend using this as there is no backup if the iPod fails.

You won't lose anything because you have a back up, right?
    Most Simple Back Up
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
    Slightly more complex:
Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically. Examples of such apps: Chronosync or DejaVu . But are many others. Search on MacUpdate
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

I can't open (launch) iTunes.  If I uninstall then reinstall will I lose my iTunes purchases?

    Hi Reeve7,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
In Windows 8, you should make sure you can find your iTunes library files, and you may want to backup to a different location. After that, reinstalling should fix the problem.
    Good luck,

  • External startup disks will not start with my new iMac

My external devices which are startup disks will not start when connected to my iMac, although it appears in the bootable drive selections after the chime sound, using the option (Alt) key. I get the bootable drive selections and when selecting it all I get is a gray screen with the apple logo and that is it. No matter how long I wait the start up does not happen. I am sure that the external device is not damaged because there is no problem to use it as a startup device when connected to my MacBook Pro.
Otherwise the devices work as they should. If I connect them to my iMac then they will appear on the desktop, etc. The only thing which does not work is that they cannot be used as startup disks, even though they work fine as startup disks if connected to my MacBook Pro.

Based on your description it is very hard to tell what is going on.
You appear to have an i7 iMac. That model was delivered with Snow Leopard (10.6.x).
My guess is that your external disks may have a version of OS X that predates the version supplied with your new iMac. You cannot run an earlier version of OS X than what was delivered with your Mac.

  • New iTunes update won't open.  First it said Apple Mobil Device failed to start.  So I Stopped then Started Apple Mobil Device.  Now iTunes still won't load.  Tells me MSVCR80.dll was not found.  Wants me to reinstall app.  Will I lose all my music?

Current iTunes update won't load.  Tells me MSVCR80.dll was not found.  Wants me to reboot.  If I reboot, will I lose my music?

    Hi DDay@55,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
To resolve this error, I recommend completely removing and reinstalling iTunes and all of its related components using these steps:
    Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
    Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
    Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
You can find the article with these steps and more information here:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
This process should not affect any music or content on your computer, but you may want to
back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive.
    Best,
    Jeremy

  • Need to reinstall Photoshop Elements - will I lose my catalog?

I have a Mac. I posted here before stating my program is unstable, and cant do anything as it locks up as soon as I do anything. My only choice now is to try and remove and reinstall, as not other options were afforded me.
If I remove the program via the Finder - will I lose my catalog, or connection to the catalog, when I reload the software? I have 35,000 tagged and organized picrtuires and cant afford a goof.
Is there any way to "fix" it in place?
    Thanks,
    Chuck

    Hi,
Please uninstall from the uninstaller that comes with PSE. Catalogs remain intact upon uninstall so they would remain as is.
Also, which version of MAC do you have?
    Thanks

  • Will I lose my itunes music if I restore a blank, new ipod?

I have a newly refurbished 8GB ipod nano. It is formatted for a Mac. It has no music on it yet. If I choose to "restore" it for windows, will I lose all my itunes music, or just, theoretically what is on my nano?

    Hi there,
I just mistakenly restore my ipod, as such all my musics in Ipod have been erased. Unfortunately, I don't keep music in my library/itune. How can I restore my music to my ipod? Thanks

  • If I download a version update to my itouch, will I lose all my playlists?

If I download a new version update to my itouch, will I lose all of my playlists that I currently have on it?

Updating should not remove your playlists, though it's always possible that something could go wrong. It's usually best to have your playlists in iTunes so that you can restore them to your iPod should that ever be necessary.
    Regards.

  • If I reinstall snow leopard using official disk will I lose my files on iMac(photos in iPhoto)?

My iMac with snow leopard has recently started working very slowly- I don't know what to do! After turning it on it works normally for about a minute and then it starts. Even if I don't enter the system and stay at the screen with list of users it happens- so please give a piece of advice how to fix it or otherwise I will have to reinstall OS, but I can't lose my photos!!

You may have diagnosed the problem, by the way
Snow Leopard will reinstall and automatically preserve User data, such as your photos. But maybe before you do that, if you don't already have a backup, first buy an external hard drive and if it does start successfully or reinstall successfully, move your valuable photos to the external drive, in case the internal Hard drive fails.
Once you have your valuable data copies to another location, you won;t have lost anything that cannot be replaced.

  • PSE 9 Organizer hangs and crashes / Reinstall?  What will I lose?

PSE 9 has been on my computer for almost a year and has started to get very unstable.  I can only scroll through a few rows of photos in Organizer before it hangs then crashes.  Editor is working more slowly as well.  The problem got worse last month when I started downloading photos from my Sony A-580.  Both the RAW and jpeg files from it were much larger than the one I've loaded from my older Minolta 5 D.
I have a Dell Inspiron 560S with 4 GB of RAM and an Intel R Core (TM) 2 Duo CPU running at 2.93 GHz.  I run Windows 7, 64 bit.  Windows gives the machine a 5.3 Windows Experience Rating, whatever that means.
Will uninstalling and reinstalling PSE 9 solve this problem?  If I do this, will I have to download all updates, include Camera Raw 6.5?
Would PSE 10 be more stable?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hello Everyone:
Following Ken's suggestion, I created a new catalog and loaded photos from my earlier files.  I've got about 1,000 photos in the new catalog so far and it works fine.
As of this morning, working with the existing catalog was almost hopeless; it hung whenever I clicked any option on the taskbar and trying to back it up to a CD was hopeless.
I guess my only question is how to I prevent the new catalog from becoming corrupted.
Thanks again for the help and useful suggestions.
    Chris
You are right, preventing the catalog from being corrupted is better than trying to cure the problems. The main idea is never to move, rename or delete files outside the Organizer as you know, but here, changing disks outside the organizer is similar. You know the 'GIGO' (garbage in, garbage out) principle. Here, it is slightly different. The internal structure of the database maybe perfectly clean, but the environment has changed and the sofware to feed the database with the correct data has failed. In my opinion, that would happen with LR or other database DAMs as well.
You can identify the situations where this can arise, particularly with external disks or moving to new computers, as well as changing OS or PSE versions. In those cases, writing the metadata to files and creating an organizer backup will both provide you with adequate support in case of transfer problem. For the backup of huge catalogs, external software may have big advantages if used intelligently, but in the former cases, having an organizer backup is the safest way. I have found that the best way to be certain a catalog is 100% ok is a backup (files and catalog) and restore to another computer. Other problems such as corrupted or unknown file types are spotted. That's the way I use to transfer my catalogs and images to another computer.
Dealing with the database directly may or not provide a very quick solution. Yesterday, I did try something which usually works well : lacking disk space, I backed up a big catalog to an external USB drive and tried to restore it on another external drive. I got a drive letter error. Cleaning the database had no effect. Restoring to another computer gave the same error, but simply changing the serial number in the drives table (single update on a single record) got everything right. I suspect the reason for the failure on the first computer was that I had used Windows to change letters and drives ids in my previous experimentations... maybe time will tell !
Another solution not only for safety but for availability is what I am doing now : restoring the catalog on a USB external disk so that I can use the catalog on another computer with the same version of Elements. Disk space is crucial !

To change the iPhone iTunes login name on your phone you tap Settings >> General >> Reset >> Reset all settings.
