If I update my iPad will I lose everything on it?!

Backup your iPad first and if something goes wrong, you can restore from the backup, I have never, ever lost anything when I updated any of my iDevices going back to iOS 3.x and I am now on iOS 6.1 the very latest iOS on my Pad 3.
What you should do anytime that you update the device is to transfer purchases from the iPad into iTunes - File>Transfer Purchases - and you should backup the iPad as well. When you update the update the device, if something goes wrong, you can restore from the backup.
If you have any other important files, you may want to transfer them to your computer as well, prior to the update.
    Transfer purchases.

It's in recovery mode. You don't have a choice. Anything that was on the phone is already gone. If you didn't back it up, there is no way to recover it.

  • If I restore my iPad will I lose my data plan?

I am planning to back up my iPad and restore it to lend to a friend for a week. I'm gonna buy a data plan for him, but when I restore from the backup will I lose my data plan

If you restore your iPad, everything will be deleted but your data plan won't be modified. You will keep it because it has nothing to do with the iPad

If I restore my device will I lose all my photos or will it backup the Ipad before the restore process starts, so I can restore my photo's later?
    Kind Regards
    Clicon

All content will be removed, it won't be backed up first - and you may need to put the iPad into recovery mode in order to be able to reset it : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
Have you been backing up to iCloud instead, or do you not have any backup ?

  • If i restore my iPad Will i lose all the información including the apps?

i would like to restore my iPad but i have got my email from work installed with my work configuration so i'm affraid of losing it?..

Before you restore it you should back it up onto a computer with iTunes or back up to iCloud if you have enough iCloud storage available.

  • If i have stuff on my phone and i connect to itunes and hit set up as new iphone instead of restoring from backup, will i lose everything i have on my phone

i need to know what i should hit on itunes for my phone, it says set up as new phone or restore with backup, i dont want to lose what i have on my phone right now, i just want to put the music i have on itunes on my phone.... what should i do?!?!

OK, we don't have the whole story, but it is likely that you previously synced the phone to a different computer. The iPhone can only be synced to one computer at a time; if you change computers the contents of the new computer will replace the contents of the old computer.
If you restore with backup (assuming the computer you are using has a current backup) you will not lose any app content. If you restore as new you can then add music and apps, but you will lose everything else in your backup.

You should be OK if you synced/backed up your iPod. If you didn't, you will need to go download and install the apps again. The good news is, you won't have to pay for them again.

  • HT4859 so i just update my iphone 4 to the lastest software, it then told me i need to restore my iphone, will i lose everything on my phone and how do i get it all back if i do ?

HELP  i dont wanna lose all my stuff on my phone

Navigate to Settings > General > Reset > Erase all contents and settings on the device you want to restore.
When this completes and the Set-Up Assistant starts, choose "Restore from iCloud Backup" and enter your iCloud account and password. You will see the three most recent backups for each of the devices on which you enabled Backup. Choose which backup to restore from.
If it won't let you do this, do a factory restore, then follow the indtructions above.

  • I attached my perfectly functioning iPhone 4 to my computer to update and came back to an error message saying I have to do a factory restore which cause me to lose everything recent because I'm not even sure that the backup completed correctly

I left my iPhone attached to my computer to do an update and now I can't use the phone at all.  It was taking so long I left it, when I came back there was an erroe message saying that I need to do a factory restore on the phone.  It wasn functioning perfectly before I attached it to iTunes to do the update and now since I can't even be sure that the back up completed, I'm faced with losing a lot of stuff recently added to my phone.
I don't want to do a restore, I just want my phone back to how it was this afternoon before I connected it to iTunes.

If the screen shows a plug going to itunes, then you have no choice,  It's in recovery mode.  You'll be given the chance to restore from a backup either from itunes or icloud.
I assume when you got the message to update (was this for the ios or update some apps?), that was before the device when dead.  At any rate, doing a restore does not change the ios.

  • My iphone won't sync, keeps saying something about disk failure. the speakers also aren't working. should i restore it, or will i lose everything if i do?

    please help!!!

    Hi,
I would do a restore. If you have a backup, you can restore it from the backup via iTunes or iCloud.
See Backing up, updating and restoring iOS software. Also, How to restore from a backup.
Hope this helps and let me know how it goes.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
