If you restore from your last backup, it will replace what you now have on your phone. If you set it up as new, you will have a phone just out of the box without any of your data on it. You can download any apps again. You can sync your music through iTunes.

I tried to restore from the cloud today after my contacts disappeared. I went to Settings-ICloud-Contacts and turned off my contacts. Now the phone is stuck on "Turning off contacts." Apple states that it keeps your last 3 iCloud backups, which would only go back a few days if you back up daily. Also, apps are not stored in the backup, only your app data is. The backup simply notes which apps were on your phone when it was backed up, then downloads them from the App store when you restore the backup. If the app is no longer available in the App store, it will not be restored to the phone when you restore the backup.

TS4108 If I restore from an iCloud backup will that also re-download the apps I had previously installed? Or will I have to painstakingly have to remember the 300 or so.

I'm having a horrid time trying to transfer settings from one computer to another and just feel like this would be the easy out. I have already locked my sync ability once and had to do a full restore from a backup and if this will reinstall my apps then I just won't bother with moving my 100gb library of apps and things.

Both computers must have iCloud enabled. There's no need to transfer anything.

And that's exactly the problem, because everyone should have their own account for iCloud. You can share an Apple ID for iTunes & App Store purchases, but you shouldn't do that for iCloud (Mail, Calendar, Contacts etc. ... ...and Photos). The problem of using the same account together could mean that only your dad's photos were stored.

Because it says it's incompatible when it can't be, I got hope. I get error messages all the time with my iPod and iPhone that it cannot sync and that 'this device is not capapble of connecting to iTunes' stuff. I literally forget that happened, plug it in again and it works, I later realize that iTunes made a mistake, they do that.
