iCloud will automatically create a shadow copy on your Mac of all files you a storing on iCloud Drive. iCloud Drive is meant for automatically updating all files across all devices. You cannot save space on your macs by moving files to iCloud Drive.   See this link:  iCloud Drive FAQ
If you need to make space on your Mac, move the files to an external drive.

  • If my photos from my iphone are on icloud, do i need to keep them on my phone?

I can't download OS7 because I don't have enough storage on my phone. If my photos from my iphone on on icloud - do I need to keep them on my phone?

You can delete any tracks you do not wish to have on the iPad and redownload them at any time. There is a setting you should be aware of, as well as a quirk (lets say design flaw):
Settings app >  Music > Show all Music. This either exposes (if tuen on) or hides (if turned off) the un-downloaded tracks in Match. I have around 17,000 tracks in Match and find it useful to turn this off to facility easily locating albums already on teh device.
If you choose to stream a track rather than downloading first, it will actually download teh track. Once this occurs, you cannot delete it by swiping. teh only way to remove it is to delete all tracks from the device via Settings app > General > Usage > Music. A bit of a pain and my only real complaint with iTunes Match.

  • If i uploaded my music on iCloud, do I need to keep on my MAC?

I am running short on memory on my desktop.
can i eliminate the music in the itunes Music folder if i have uploaded to icloud?

You could, but it's not recommended.  See https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4112.

  • If I've loaded my music into the iCloud, do I need to keep it on my Mac or will it be "lost"?

Perhaps I should address this to the iTunes community.  I've uploaded 14,000 songs currently on my Mac into the the iCloud, paying the $24.00 annual fee.  Can I safely delete those songs from my Mac and still access the music from iCloud?

Can I safely delete those songs from my Mac and still access the music from iCloud?
There are several reasons, why you need a local copy plus a backup of your iTunes library.
iTunes Match is relying on the iTunes Store. If purchased songs are no longer available at the Store, you cannot download them again from iCloud.
There may be matching errors. You need your local copy to be able to hear the correct song, if the match went wrong. I found several songs in my library that have been matched to completely different songs.
There may be upload errors. If a song did not upload correctly because of transmission errors, you need a local copy to restore it to your library.
If iTunes Match is down, or your Internet connection down, you will not be able to listen to your Music at all.

CT probably has the same total dislike for what Apple has done as I do. The problem is iCloud doesn't even begin to provide the services that MobileMe did.
As far as storing stuff in the cloud ise Drop Box, that what I do.

  • I have Pages for the iPad and desktop, how can I save it besides the iCloud on my computer and not the iPad?

I have purchased Pages for my desktop iMac and Macbook Air.  I also have it on my iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.  They are all synced through the icloud, but the space is now starting to fill up.  (I am the guy asking trivia questions and it fills up with A LOT of questions).  BUT, after each week, I can get rid of 3 documents (16 questions per document).  So, I have roughly 80 games worth of trivia and half of which I would like to save on my computer.  I can pull it up on my computer and it shows that I have that from the icloud, but not on the desktop.  I have lots of space on my desktop to save these, but the iPad is not as large for space.
How can I transfer roughly 40 documents (from pages) from the icloud to the desktop, (for permanent storage)?  do I have to do each one individually, or is there a select documents you want to move?  Then I can delete from ipad as it seems to take up space on both the ipad and the icloud.
    Thank you in advance.

Just ignore that post above. I tried to edit it but was too late. Deleting a document from iPad does delete it from iCloud.
Ignore the line 'There is no data limit on iCloud.com so you could keep all your documents on there' because of course then they will sync to your devices and that's not what you want.
    Sorry, for the confusion.
    Removing documents from iCloud:

You can also move documents to your computer by opening Pages, select iCloud and all the documents you want to move, and drag them onto your desktop (or folder).

  • How do I save a file to iCloud Drive and NOT have it sync to all my devices?

I have a Macbook Air with 128GB of SSD storage.  I have a Mac Mini with 2TB of storage.  Both are running OS X 10.10 with iCloud Drive enabled.  All iOS devices are on 8.0+ with iCloud Drive.  I want to upload files to my iCloud Drive from my Macbook Air and then delete them off my Air to save valuable storage space.  When I try to delete a file from my iCloud Drive on my MB Air, it prompts me to say that the file will be deleted from ALL iCloud Drive devices.  I just want delete it locally on the MB Air.  Is there a way to do this?  Do I have to do it through the iCloud Drive web interface?  Can I just make a folder in iCloud Drive that does not sync to the other devices but you can still "view" the files?  I just want to save files in the iCloud but not have all those files synced on my Macbook Air.  Make sense?   Help please!  Thank you in advance.

You're going to find that pretty much every cloud storage system works in a similar way. Some, like OneDrive, will allow you to select what folders sync to and from every machine it's installed on.
Maybe something like that would fit your needs better.

  • How do I save file in to iCloud?

I create a file with Keynotes.
I save it in my Mac
But how do I move it/save it in to iCloud?
I can't find the automatic way to do it.
At the moment, I am opening iCloud in my browser and move the file manually.

If you have Keynote in your iOS device, go to iCloud web, select iWork and go to Keynote tab. Then, drag your file to it. Now, iWork for Mac doesn't support iCloud

  • When I got my new iphone 4,  I gave my wife my old iphone. She has her own Apple Id but the icloud on her phone is in my email name account. If I delete it to create her own icloud account, will I loose my stuff on my icloud account?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
When you delete the old account from the phone, the data is only deleted from that device, it is not deleted from the cloud. As such you will not lose the data off your phone either.

  • HT5925 Can I save pdf files on iCloud?

Can I save pdf files on iCloud?

    I installed a PDF reader.
It allows attaching pdf files to my iPod and synching with iTunes.
But I don't use iCloud, still. I do all backups local to iTunes library.
However, it should work no matter where or what IF you have files attached to an app that allows files.
When I make changes to files attached to apps, they change and show under iTunes - tried renaming a file on the computer and changed on iPod.

  • Save PDF documents to iCloud

I'm sure this has been discussed befor but has anyone figured out how to save PDF documents to iCloud?

Unfortunately, there no way to view PDFs on your device using this method, not until iOS 6 comes out.
You need a pdf viewer on your device, like Goodreader.  You can get PDF files into Goodreadeer by using itunes to sync from mac to device.

  • My iPad will not save app settings to icloud.

I have tried with three different apps to get my iPad to save data to icloud.  These apps will save data to icloud from my wife's iPad and from my iPhone.  On her iPad, I can turn on the setting to save the settings to icloud and then immediately go to icloud manage storage and see that something has been written to icloud by that app.  From my iPad, the files never appear.  Also, if I delete an app that was supposed to write its settings to icloud, I get a message stating that documents pending changes to icloud will be deleted resulting in data being lost.  I have turned off documents and data in icloud settings and restarted the iPad.  I have deleted all of the apps that are supposed to write to icloud and reinstalled them.  I have deleted the icloud account and re-added it.  A backup to icloud works, so I know my account at least can write to icloud, but no apps can write data to icloud from my iPad.  The same apps on my wife's iPad can write to her icloud account, and the same apps on my iPhone can write to my icloud account.  I'm stumped.  Something has the documents and data queue to icloud clogged up on my iPad and I don't know how to clear it out.  Has anyone out there experienced this?  I had hoped iOS 6 would fix the problem, but I installed it yesterday and the problem still exists.

    1. Close all apps in the Task Bar. Double-click the Home button and hold apps down for a second or two. Tap the minus sign to close app.
    2. Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home button down until you see the Apple Logo.
