If I scan a document & save as a PDF, is it AODA compliant (accessible)?

If I scan a document & save as a PDF, is it AODA compliant (accessible)? Or is the only way to ensure this is to convert a Word document into a PDF?
Thanks.

PDF page content that is solely the scanned image of textual content is not accessible PDF.
A PDF having content that is a scanned image of text (and other content having semantic value in the document) can be made a PDF/UA compliant PDF.
OCR would have to be done. The OCR output would then be corrected (OCR does not provide 100% character recognition accuracy).
This OCR content would then have to have the semantically appropriate PDF elements (tags) provided.
Done properly the PDF becomes PDF/UA-1 compliant.
A PDF/UA-1 compliant PDF will more than satisfiy AODA.
An accessible PDF is an ISO 14289-1:2012 compatible PDF.
ISO 14289-1 (PDF/UA-1) is the ISO standard for accessible PDF.
As with other PDF related ISO standards PDF/UA-1 is based on the ISO standard for PDF (ISO 32000-1).
So to provide an accessible PDF it is good to be familiar with these two ISO standards.

How do I scan multiple documents to a single pdf from the ADF on my MX922?
    Solved!

    Hi Riceburner1,
Since you have had difficulty scanning using My Image Garden, you can scan using the IJ Scan Utility program that also comes with the printer.  To do this, please follow these steps:
    1. Place the documents in the ADF or on the platen glass of the printer.
    2. Start the IJ Scan Utility.
        For Windows 8.1:
        1. On your keyboard, press the Windows key.
        2. Start typing IJ SCAN UTILITY. The search window opens as you type. Once the IJ SCAN UTILITY is displayed, please select and open it, then continue with Step 3 below.
        For Windows XP:
        1. Go to your START MENU, then select ALL PROGRAMS, then CANON UTILITIES, then the IJ SCAN UTILITY program.
        2. In the Canon IJ Scan Utility window that opens, click SETTINGS.... in the bottom right of the window. The Settings dialog box appears. Please continue with Step 3 below.
    3. In the Canon IJ Scan Utility window that opens, click SETTINGS.... in the bottom right of the window. The Settings dialog box appears.
    4. Click the DOCUMENT SCAN option on the left pane of the window. In the Select Source field of the Scan Options section, select DOCUMENT (ADF/PLATEN) to scan items placed directly on the platen glass, DOCUMENT (ADF SIMPLEX) to perform single-sided scanning from the ADF, or DOCUMENT (ADF DUPLEX) to perform double-sided scanning using the ADF. You can then set the item size, resolution, etc. in the Scan Options section as desired.
    5. In the SAVE SETTINGS section of the window, you will select the save format and location of the document you are about to scan.
a.) In the FILE NAME field, specify the name you would like to give the file. By default the filename will begin with IMG; you can remove IMG and change it to whatever you would like to name the file.  Please note that the filename that you give the document here will be the default filename for all items scanned until you change the file name.  If you leave the file name the same in the field, the scanned item will have a sequential number appended to the end of whatever name you give it.
b.) In the DATA FORMAT field, use the drop-down arrow to select the desired option. If you are scanning a multipage document, select the PDF (Multiple Pages) option.
c.) In the SAVE IN field, please navigate to the area where you would like the file to be saved once it is scanned in. By default, the file will be saved in the MY DOCUMENTS folder.
    6.  In the APPLICATION SETTINGS section of the window, please select the DO NOT START ANY APPLICATION option.
    7. Once all settings have been selected, click the OK button at the bottom of the SETTINGS (DOCUMENT SCAN) window. The IJ Scan Utility main screen appears.
    8. Click the DOCUMENT button. Scanning starts. Click the CANCEL button to cancel scanning if needed.   Once the scan is completed, scanned images are saved in the previously selected folder location specified in the SETTINGS... window.
    Hope this helps!

  • When i scan the document created is a pdf/A and i am unable to edit it with XPro

I am running an HP T3500 scanner that when scans a document it creates a pdf on my network. When i open the document in XPro is gives me the following statement "This file claims compliance with the PDF/A standard and has been opened read-only to prevent modification". In Adobe X i it gives me the option with the use of a button in the same bar as this statement to "Enable editing" but in X Pro i do not have this option and I cannot find anywhere where i can enable editing. I need to be able to do this in X Pro. we have multiple computers in the office which most run Pro and only 1 that runs i. Can someone please help?

The first thing i tried when this happened was "save as". Nothing changes. Where do you find "clear scan" OCR i don't see that anywhere. The term "edit" best describes what i am trying to do. I cannot rotate the image, i cannot add a text block anywhere , i cannot draw lines on the image, i simply can't do anything with the scanned document. all of these things are important because these are 100 year old surveyors maps that when scanned are very tough to read.

  • Once i scan a document and create a pdf.  how do i then change the fields on the document

once i scan a document and create a pdf.  how do i then change the the info on the document.  i have to update a couple of the columns and cannot figure out how. please help.

You are probably only looking at a graphic. You have to run OCR before you can do the corrections. For your use, you would need the ClearScan option. Once you have a text based document, you can then use the Text Touchup Tool. Expect to have problems. Editing a PDF is not easy to do well and is not really recommended, except for minor edits. Wordwrap and such features are not part of the editing options. It would be best if you could get an electronic copy of the original, edit that, then create a new PDF.

    Hi,
Which application do you use to scan?
You may scan a such from the HP Scan or the HP Solution Center software, which is available as part of the full feature software.
If you does not have the software installed, from Devices and Printers right click teh Scanner and select Remove Device.
Unplug the Cable and install the following software:

  • How can I scan a document to PDF in Windows 7 Professional

I have a Canon MX892 which I previously used with Windows XP. I was able to scan documents to PDF very easily using the Canon Solutions Menu EX.  I am now using Windows 7 Pro 64. I downloaded the associated version of Canon Solutions Menu EX, but it is completely different from the Windows XP with far less functionality.  Is there some way to scan documents to PDF with Windows 7 Pro?

    Hi daberg,
There is a program called MP Navigator that comes with the printer that can assist you with scanning a document in as a PDF file.  Once you are in the MP Navigator program, please follow these steps to scan and save a document in PDF format:
     1.  When MP Navigator opens, click on the ONE-CLICK option at the top of the window.
     2.  Click on the SAVE AS PDF FILE button.
     3.  Place the document you want to scan on the Platen, then select your Document Type (either Color or Black and White Photo or Document), Size, and Resolution.
     4.  In the FILENAME section, the default name for the file will be IMG; you can change this to something else if you would like by highlighting the IMG and then typing over it.
     5.  In the SAVE IN section, you will see the folder path and location that the file will be saved to when you scan it; if you would like to change the location, please click on the SPECIFY button and select the location where you would like the file saved to.
     6.  Below the SAVE IN section, there is a checkbox titled SAVE TO A SUBFOLDER WITH THE CURRENT DATE.  If you leave this checkbox checked, then whatever folder location you select will have a folder with the current date of the scan placed in it, and inside of the currently dated folder will be the file that you scanned.  If you do not want to have the program create the subfolder, please uncheck that box.
     7.  Click the green SCAN button.  Scanning starts.  When scanning is completed, the file will be saved in the location you specified.
     8.  You can then close out of the MP Navigator program and go to the location where you specified the file to save.  You should find the PDF file in that location.
    Hope this helps!

  • How to use document saveAs to save a PDF to a UNC path

Can document saveAs tsave a PDF to a UNC path on a network share?

JavaScript is inherently in Unicode. I see no reason for it not to work, though in versions of Acrobat before the most recent, it could only save to files whose Unicode matched the system coding. So test that a manual save will work before trying to automate it.

  • I have used Image Capture to scan images/documents and then saved them as either PDFs or PNG files.  For some reason, just this past week Image Capture will no longer save the file.  It scans, and the Scan Results window pops up, but it won't save file.

I have used Image Capture to scan images/documents and then saved them as either PDFs or PNG files.  For some reason, just this past week, Image Capture will no longer save the file.  It scans, and the Scan Results window pops up, but it won't save file.
The file name has no special character in it, just letters and no spaces.
I have done this in the past and it has worked, but now it will not.
I have not upgraded any software, that I am aware of.
After scanning, the Image Capture pops up the Scan Results with the file name in the window, but neither the Scan Results nor the Image Capture window responds to inputs.  The Image Capture window is frozen, with only the "Overview" and "Cancel" buttons active (but non-responsive).
Is this a software issue or a scanner hardware issue?  I am using a HP Photosmart C6200 series printer/scanner on a network using a Time Capsule airport.
    Thanks.

    I had the same problem.
Got a 90% fix.  Apparently the Mavericks preferences won't work with Yosemite, so I just deleted the Image Capture preferences.
Unfortunately, the "Scan to" folder seems to be permanently set to the Pictures folder.
    1.  Quit Image Capture
    2.  Go to Finder > Go > Home, which opens up your home folder (named after your user name)
    3.  Open Library > Preferences > com.apple.ImageCapture.plist - Drag this file to the Trash
    4.  Start "Image Capture", click "Details" and change all your settings as you prefer
    5.  Quit and restart "Image Capture".   Notice it remembers all your settings except "Scan to" folder.  It insists on saving to "Pictures".
That's as far as I was successful.  I tried changing the "Scan to" folder to "Desktop", but on launch, Image Capture always sets it back to "Pictures".
    This is what I tried:
    6.  Download and install "Pref Setter" from http://www.nightproductions.net/prefsetter.html
    7.  Quit "Image Capture".  Right-click on "com.apple.ImageCapture.plist" and open with Pref Setter.
    8.  Search for "Pictures", which finds "~/Pictures" (the tilde character at the start means your home directory).
    9.  Double-click on "~/Pictures" and change it to the folder you prefer.  I like "~/Desktop"
    10. Choose File > Save then Quit from Pref Setter.  Note that re-opening the plist file still shows "~/Desktop"
    11. Start up "Image Capture" -- on startup, "Image Capture" sets "Scan to" folder to "Pictures"
    I consider this a bug.

  • How do I save an image using image capture after i scan a document?

How do I save an image in image capture, after I've scanned a document?

Hi, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The process may differ a bit, depending upon which version of the OS you are using. Open the Image Capture application and click on the Help menu for it.
In Mac OS X 10.6.8, I get this:
Control + click on image and choose to "Open Link in New Tab" (or window) in order to see the full-size image.
According to those instructions, it looks as though the scan should be automatically saved to the folder you've chosen.

    Welcome to the forums horizonjeana,
I understand you are unable to open your PDF's to view them after they scan however, the scan preview is working fine. I would suggest updating Adobe to see if that helps!
    Open Reader or Acrobat.
Choose Help - Check For Updates. If a new update is available, it installs automatically.
    Once installed, restart you computer.
Try to print the PDF again.

  • Scan multiple pages into a single PDF document?

How can i scan multiple pages into a single multipage PDF file?
I've seen similar questions posted, but I haven't found any good answers. The only advice i saw was to scan each page as a separate PDF document, then merge them into a single PDF using third-party software.
Obviously, i don't want to have to do that.
I can't believe that there really is no way to do it using the existing HP print/scan utilities provided with the hardware.
My printer/scanner is the "HP Photosmart 5514 e-All-in-One Printer - B111h", and i'm running Vista (64-bit) on an HP Pavillion notebook.

    Hi,
From the HP Scan software (Start > Programs > HP > HP Photosmart 5510 Series > HP Scan) select PDF and ensure the resolution is 300 DPI or lower.
Ensure the Show Scan Preview option is checked and click on Scan.
Once scanning the first page completes, place the next page on the glass and click the plus button below the scan preview...
Once you are done click on Save.
