If I set up as a new phone, can I later add in my itunes?

I ask because I received my iphone5c today and would like to get it running. However, I only have itunes on my laptop right now, and I am having troubles getting my itunes updates to 11.1 so I can use it to set up my phone. I won't be able to get that fixed until I get in to work. So, if I set up my phone as "new" can I stillsync up my itunes later?
Thanks!

Yes. Set up as new, run the update, then go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings, and you can go through the setup again.

  • TS4268 After following instructs from apple to set up iPhone as new phone can I re-sync with my iTunes to get all my contacts back

after the new IOS 7 update, my 4s would not activate facetime or imessage. I called apple and walk thru a simple reset. waited 24 hours and still no activation. I followed Apple's online trouble shoot and reset phone and set up as a new phone. Can I now re-sync with my itunes to get back all my lost contacts, notes, music,  etc etc?
    Thank you

usually when you set up as a new phone it will ask you in the options if you would like to restore from last back-up, what i would do is, start again by deleting everything and setting it up as a new iphone again and after that on your iphone it will go through steps of setting it up again such as 'enable my location' and so on. when it comes up on the last option 'back up from last back-up' press the option you would like and then on your computer while having it plugged in go on prefrences on the itunes tab at the top, and click backing up and it will show you your recently backed up files, click okay after pressing the option you would like on your phone,,, this will only work with ios5.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Navigate to Settings > General > Software Update and install any updates available.
Navigate to Settings > General > Reset > Erase all contents and settings on the device you want to restore.
When this completes and the Set-Up Assistant starts, choose "Restore from iCloud Backup" and enter your iCloud account and password. You will see the three most recent backups for each of the devices on which you enabled Backup. Choose which backup to restore from.

  • Every time I connect my iphone 4 to itunes it wants to either restore from backup or set up as a new phone.

every time I connect my iphone 4 to itunes it wants to either restore from backup or set up as a new phone. I've restored it 5 times already, i don't want to lose any of my data. Any ideas?

I had the same issue. Tried unplugging whilst it was restoring about 5 times - didnt work. I ended up clicking "set up as new iphone" and TADA it worked. I can now edit on itunes. I do however have every single app I've EVER downloaded on my phone. Apple should really make it so they go back on exactly how they were before!

  • Can I restore from an iTunes backup after setting up as a new phone when a full reboot/restore has been carried out?

Can I restore from an iTunes backup after setting up as a new phone when a full reboot/restore has been carried out?

As @wjosten says. Note, however, that it is important to NOT sync the phone after resetting it. A Sync will overwrite the backup that you want to restore.

  • If I restore and set up as a new phone, will it still be unlocked?

Phone is playing up - I have tried restoring from a backup and it is still unlocked. Does anyone know if it will still be unlocked if I restore and set up as a new phone?
The phone was unlocked by my old network, not by myself at home or anything.
    Thanks for any help

  • I have been using Icloud but want to stop. I connected to itunes but it wants me to set up as a new phone.

I have been using icloud to back up my Iphone 5, but it hasn't backed up in a while because the backup is too big.  I want to start syncing to itunes instead but when I connect to itunes it wants me to use a backup that is over a year old or set up as a new phone.  If I set up as a new phone will I lose everything that is on my phone now?

    Hi denmardel,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You should be able to back up your iPhone to iTunes using these steps, without syncing or setting it up as new:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
To back up the content on your iOS device, follow these steps:
Make sure your computer has the latest version of iTunes.
Connect your iOS device to your computer.
Choose File > Devices > Back up.
To verify that the backup finished successfully, open iTunes Preferences and select the Devices tab. You'll see the name of the device along with the date and time iTunes created the backup.
    Best Regards,
    Jeremy

  • Why is it that every time I connect my iphone into itunes, it always asks me if i want to "Set up as a new phone" or "restore from backup"?

Every time I plug in my iPhone 4 into iTunes, it always asks me if i want to "Set up as a new phone" or "restore from backup". But every time i click on restore from back up it deletes everything & that iTunes message is still there. Is something wrong with iTunes?

Apparently it does need to be restored because that is what it is requesting. You will need to restore it as New or from a recent backup if you made one.

  • HT201269 if i set up my restored phone as a new phone can i sync it to itunes to retrieve my orignally backed-up data, settings, apps etc.?

my phone is in recovery mode. i have unsuccessfully tried to restore it with itunes. I did not back-up much of my info with icloud so that option isnt helpful.
I'm contemplating restoring it as a new phone. The question is: once its restored as a new phone can i then sync it with the backed-up info, apps, pics on my itunes or will it not allow that?

Restoring from backup and syncing with iTunes are two different things.
If you restore as new you can sync back your apps/music/contacts http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1296
If your restore from backup, you get everything back http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766

  • New phone, can't get gmail to work

I'm having problems trying to put my gmail acct on my droid 2. I create a new acct with new password and then I get an error msg. The funny thing is I'll go to google accts and do exactly what they prompt me to do and I still can't enter it on the droid. Weirder still is after I log out online I can't re-access the new gmail account. Anyone else having this problem? Oh and of course, there is no one at google to talk to......

No it is not a stupid question. I tried every possible combination. I even checked the box on googles site about forgot user name. Google sent my user name to my hotmail address. then I went in and reset the password with my user name. So then I tried to set it up on my droid and kept getting an error msg. Went back to google online to login and got an error msg there. Great, by now I'm thoroughly frustrated so I thought I would create a new gmail acct to get it to work on the phone. Same thing happened. Gmail gave me an error msg even though I just created a new acct. So I can't log on my pc or phone and there is no one to contact a google to find out what is wrong.

    Do this first:

Then whoever gets the phone just sets things up again using their Apple ID.

A warranty or out of warranty replacement through Apple will be for the same model, same capacity, same colour.

I have lost my audiobooks that I purchases on my old phone. I have gotten a new phone and they are not in the iTunes downloads. Please help.

Audiobooks are currently a one-time only download - have you not got them on your computer and/or on a backup ? If not then you can try contacting Apple, but they are under no obligation to let you re-download them : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/
