If i sign out of iCloud will I lose photos and docs off my Mac?

I am in the process of changing my email address which means changing my AppleID.  In 'how to change your ID' you are meant to sign out of iCloud.  I get warnings that if I sign out any docs, photos etc which have not been imported will be deleted from my computer.
how do i know if they have been imported and I won't lose them?
and
is there an easy way to change your ID on your Mac? it was easy on phone
iOS X10.9.5
Cheers

They will still be in iCloud.  Provided you are signing back into the same account (just with and updated email address) and not changing accounts, your data will download back to your Mac when you sign back in.
You might want to make sure your my photo stream photos are imported to iPhoto before signing out.  To do this, open iPhoto, control-click on the My Photo Stream album and choose "Import".  If it says "Show in Library" instead of Import, they have already been imported to your library.

You can sign into more than one account at once, providing you only need one primary account, what exactly are you trying to do.

  • If i sign out of iCloud will any of my photos be lost from iPhoto on my mac

    Hi
I have got myself in a bit of a mess after changing the email address linked to my apple id as the old address was no longer valid.  I have change the apple id but i need to sign out of iCloud ss the old ID is no longer valid.  I want to check that if I do sign out of I cloud my iPhoto library on my imac will be safe as there are some scary messages displayed when I am in the process of signing out saying that any photo's not imported will be deleted from my computer!
Common sense tells me that you must be able to sign out without it deleting all the photos from your computer, but I would like to check with someone who knows!
I am operating OS X on an iMac.
Thank you and sorry to be a pain!!

You just need to open iPhoto on your iMac and move any photos in the Shared  iCloud section (in the pane on the left of iPhoto) into an Event or Events if they already haven't been. Photos in Events are safe from any action by Photo Stream (iCloud).
It is possible that you already have set iPhoto to automatically move the photos into Events where they are safe. That setting is described in the quote below from iCloud: My Photo Stream FAQ
Because your Mac and PC have more storage than your iOS devices, you can choose to download all of your My Photo Stream photos automatically.
In iPhoto or Aperture preferences on your Mac, select Photos (or Photo Stream) > My Photo Stream > Automatic Import. All of your photo stream photos will import into your Events, Projects, Photos, Faces, and Places folders in iPhoto or Aperture.
Also there is more information at iCloud: My Photo Stream FAQ
What happens to my photos if I turn off My Photo Stream?
If you sign out of iCloud or turn off My Photo Stream on an iOS device, all the images in My Photo Stream are removed from that device. The images in My Photo Stream on your other devices aren't affected. Images added to My Photo Stream are saved on the iCloud server for 30 days from the date you added them to My Photo Stream. If you sign in to iCloud with the same Apple ID and turn on My Photo Stream on another device, those photos will automatically download to this device.

  • Changing syncing PC - will I lose photos and other data?

I have been syncing my wife's 3GS to my iPhone account.  And, because of iCloud she also gets copies of, for example, my photos.
Question:  if I shift the phone to her PC and iTunes account, will she lose her photos , contacts etc?
I don't want to find out by trial and error!
    Thank you.

She will lose all music and apps that are not in her iTunes library. So she should copy them from your computer to hers. Easy with iTunes Home Sharing if they are on the same network. Before syncing you should back up the phone on her computer. To do this FIRST go to iTunes Preferences, Devices tab, and check the box to NOT sync automatically when the phone is connected. Then connect the phone, click on its name in iTunes, then the Backup iPhone button. You should also back up to iCloud if she doesn't already. Belt and suspenders, but you can't have too many backups. iCloud backups are done directly from the phone.

  • If I restart my I Pad, Will I lose photos and all

If I restart my I pad, will i lose my photos and everything?

No, of course not. I restart my iPad if I feel that it is warranted. Do you have some problem or issue?

  • Will the find my iphone app work if i sign out of icloud?

Will Find My Iphone App work if I sign out of ICloud?

You need to log into iCloud with your Apple ID under Settings->iCloud to Turn on Find my iPhone for each iPhone.
With that done, you can use the App on each iPhone to find the other. You do not need to go to iCloud.com.  But you do need to log into the App with the Apple ID you used to log into iCloud in settings.
You cannot use the App without turning on Find My iPhone in Settings on each iPhone, and you cannot do that without logging into iCloud.

  • Will signing out of iCloud delete the apps already on my iPad?

my kids were given their grandfather's iPad with a ton of apps already on it.  If I sign out of his iCloud on that iPad, will the apps be deleted too?

Be very careful, as the information in the post above mine is not correct.  As you can see here, iTunes does not back up the applications.
Create and delete iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch backups in iTunes - Apple Support
Your iPad may keep the apps (for now), but bear in mind that the Apple ID that purchased them owns them.  Signing out of iCloud is OK (for now), but the Apple ID ownership must be retained.

  • Hi. i tried to sign out from icloud and the icon signing out is still working. will i loose everything now i have saved on my mac? i cant even turn off the mac because system preferences is still working .....

    Hi
I signed out from my icloud because wanted to change my maill address and password for it cause couldnt connect with my old password and mail acc i dont know why.But then realised that i will loose all my data...
Will i loose eveything i have saved now on my mac by signing out the icloud?
and is still 'signing out'...cant turn off my mac and 'system preferences' is still working..
Can i re instal it back?
Please advice what to do ....how to cancel signing out....turn off my mac...or re instal icloud...
    Thank you

I have the same problem. Unfortunately, the troubleshooting link you added has the first step listed as "Verify that FaceTime is enabled in FaceTime > Preferences" which we (the original poster and I) can't do as our Preferences are greyed out. We can't click on them to verify anything.
In FaceTime itself it's verified my apple id (also double checked via the site) and then it says the email is "verified" but then it freezes and after a minute or so it says "Could not verify the email address. Please check your network connection and try again."
After checking the network connection, it still doesn't work. It's rather frustrating as it all worked fine until about a week or two ago.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Will my notes be deleted if I sign out of iCloud?

I have forgotten my password for my iCloud account, so I made a new one and plan to replace my old one. In the settings my notes aren't checked with green, so I was wondering if they will be deleted if I sign out?

If you sign out of iCloud, all your iCloud data will disappear from your phone, including notes.  It will still be in iCloud in the existing account and will reappear on your phone if you sign back in.  If you aren't signing back into your existing iCloud account, you'll need to take steps to back up your data before signing out if you want to keep it.  This article explains how to archive or make copies of your iCloud data: Archive or make copies of your iCloud data - Apple Support.
Also, if you're having problems remembering your iClout password, you can contact the Apple account security team to prove your identity and they will help you reset the password: Apple ID: Contacting Apple for help with Apple ID account security - Apple Support.

  • If i sign out of icloud on my mac, will find my mac still work?

Under System Preferences - > iCloud, I have enabled "Find My Mac" and I want to use "Back to my Mac" as well.
I have a very simple question...
Will either of these features operate if I sign out of iCloud in the preference pane?  I would like to make it a little more secure by requiring authentication to access or disable these features.
    Thanks.

    No.
Also, if you sign out, your contacts, calendars and bookmarks will stop syncing. iCloud is designed to be left signed in if you are using any of the services it provides.

  • How do I sign out of iCloud just on one device? And will deleting my account on iCloud completely delete the account or just on this one device?

I am sharing an iCloud account and I want to sign out of iCloud! But when I go to settings and my iCloud account the account name is ge
Grey as If I can't change it.

That means the Restriction is set that prevents changing accounts. Go to Settings>General>Restrictions and unset it so you can delete the account.
Deleting the account for one device does not effect the account on other devices.

  • Had to change my Apple ID because the original email address is no longer valid.  How do I change the iCloud user name on iMac?  I found instructions about signing out of iCloud and signing back end.  It asks questions about contact, etc.

Had to change Apple ID due to email address no longer valid.  Trying to change id for icloud...saw direction online about signing out of icloud and signing back in...when it ask questions about contacts, photos, etc. being deleted how do I answer those?  That just sort of freaks me out.

For the ones that give you an option, select the option you want (keep on the Mac or Delete). For the ones that are simply warning you, click on Delete from Mac.
They will all come back when you sign back on, since all you did was change your existing Apple ID to a new email address. It's the same iCloud account, just with a different name.
It's the only way to get your updated ID signed onto iCloud.

This article contains the only thing that worked for me.  I also had to sign out of iCloud and uninstall it.  Then I had to delete all files and folders from all of those applications that were under Program Files, Program Files x86, Program Data and Users.  My iPhone 4 will now sync with iTunes both in its USB-connected  mini dock and over Wi-Fi.  It's unfortunate (negligent programming on the part of Apple?) that the upgrade to iTunes 11 did not remove all of those files as part of the upgrade process.

I am having the same issue....Same address for years - same as USPS - I tried 5 times (3 macs and 2 iPhones) and now i have 5 CHARGES for 1.00 each on my credit card. I took the credit card info off so they don't charge me anymore. How can they charge me yet still not allow me to download free updates and say I have an invalid address? I'm sure I will spend weeks or months trying to get a credit out of these incompetent idiots.

  • Cannot sign out of iCloud after updating to IOS8

I recently upgraded my iPad Mini with Retina display to the latest IOS version 8.1.2 on 12/27/14. After doing so and restarting the iPad, it repeatedly keeps asking for an iCloud password...like every 3 seconds. The thing is, it has signed me into my wife's iCloud and not mine. I have tried to enter her password over and over and it will not accept it. I tried to reset the iPad to factory settings, but to do so it requires me to sign out of Find My iPad which requires the iCloud password, which it will not accept. I have tried to reset her password on iCloud.com but I cannot sign in, which leads me to believe that my wife has forgotten her password. So I then tried to have her password reset by selecting "iForgot" and filling out the required info to send an email verification for a password reset, but no such email ever arrives in her inbox. So basically at this point, the device continuously asks for a password that I cannot provide and to reset it to factory settings I must provide said password that i cannot provide. I have tried to reset it to factory settings through Settings/General/Reset/Erase All Content and Settings AND through iTunes to no avail.
I have tried all options on this page If you're asked for the password to your previous Apple ID when signing out of iCloud. like has been suggested to others on other threads I have read, and nothing works.

You must (a) verify which account was used to lock the iPad (Find My iPad), and then (b) recover the password. There is no workaround for this (except off to an Apple Store with proof of purchase, they may unlock it).
