I'm running iOS 5 on my 3GS, and it runs fine, granted it's not as fast as a 4 or 4S, but it will still run fine.

Fixing my phone is now my number one use of my free time! AT&T store says I should just upgrade my phone. This a software issue! I upgraded to iOS5.01 and it seems to be no different.
My wife had similar issues with her iPhone3G and iOS4. We made 3 trips to the Apple Store to do a deep recovery to bring it back to life. They told us it was a hardware issue and we needed to buy a new phone. iOS4.1 fixed all the problems and the phone worked great.
I guess I am in for the same ride And will hope iOS5.1 fixes my issues. Apple PLEASE HELP!!!!! -
ITunes 10 freezes when i try to upgrade my iPhone 3Gs to iOS5

I've been trying to upgrade my iPhone 3Gs to iOS5 since yesterday but i just can't get it to work.
If i manage to pass the backup step my iTunes freezes when it tries to connect to the server, my cursor turns into the dreaded rainbow wheel and that's it.
What should i do, should i wait or should i try restoring my iPhone and see if it works?
I'm running iTunes 10 on a MacBook (Leopard, updated to ver 10.5.8)
Anyone can help? Suggestions?

Just upgarded to iOS5, but my Apps did not syn. The Apps are still there in my iTune, but can not sync them up to my phone !! Please help. What am I missing??
Call AppleCare back and give them the iPhone model and serial number and tell them you just want to know which cell carrier your iPhone is now locked with. Once you learn that contact the cell provider and see what their process is to officicially unlock it.

Just upgraded iPhone 3GS to IOS5. Now in itunes I can see there's 21GB of Others. I have no idea what is that. I didnt have that before the upgrade. How to get rid of it? It's taken up all the space on the phone.
I posted a fix for this temporary issue earlier but here it is in short:
The memory "hog" that is "others" seems to be the OS as it's installing. It seems to want more than 12GB and you may get stuck at the point where iTunes tries to load everything back on and the iPhone has run out of space. What you need to to is un-check the "sync" box at the apps, music, podcasts and other sections, then click the button to sync iTunes with iPhone. This will result in iTunes deleting all the data it restored, but you'll put it back later. Once you caused the deletion of most of the data, iOS5 will resume installing and then "magically" shrink to less than 1GB. Then you can place check marks back in the boxes and re-sync all your apps and other data. You will have plenty or memory left.
I followed the above procedure and my iPhone works perfectly.

Iphone 3gs with ios5 update. bluetooth connection with car problem.
I updated my iphone 3GS to IOS5. After the update, the bluetooth (handsfree) connection to my car (Lexus RX350) does not work anymore. I can connect any other cell phone bluetooth to my car. Only iphone after the IOS5 update is failing. Any suggestions (I reset many times)?
Some people havent had one problem when updating to iOS4, others have been over run with problems. I myself have lost virtually all sound from my loud speaker so calls, txt messages and ipod are virtually unheard now..
Went to my local Genius bar in Liverpool today, complete waste of time, the guy restored it like I hadnt already done that a 100 times, then said oh yeah it is qeit not heard of that one before, to get a new one will cost you £139!!
Yeah right mate, not payin that as its not my fault! did ask him if he ever looks on the Apple forum about faults people are having, and I got a blank look. Told him a thread with tens of thousands people all having the same problem with low sound from the speakers and calls being ended in mid conversation since updating to OS4 seems a bit strange then... another blank look!
Ive lost all faith with apple as a company now and will not be upgrading to a iPhone 4 anytime soon or any apple product, no one seems interested in helping but quick enough to take your money, thats my opinion anyway..

I need HELP switching to iCloud. So many obstacles. . I'm afraid your Mac cannot be upgraded to Lion, and thus is not compliant with iCloud. The only option you have there is to set Mail up manually to access your iCloud email, but the other facilities won't work.

Updated iphone 3gs to ios5 now I can't open contacts or make phone calls
This afternoon I decided to update my iphone 3GS to ios5 and now I find that I can not open the contacts app or the phone app which told me I had missed calls and a voicemail they just both immediately close. I tried opening the settings > mail, contacts page and that closes immediately and after creating an icloud account thing I tried to turn contacts on and it just automaticaly closes. I tried creating a contact from an existing message and it automaticaly close. I've sync'd the phone numerous times and it's the same deal. It's only these two apps that don't work

Help with syncing an iPhone 3GS running iOS5 to a new MBA running Lion
Just got a new MacBook Air running Lion (10.7.2) and I thought I'd sync my iPhone 3GS (Running iOS5.0.1) to it.
I have an iMac running Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and my 3GS is currently synced with that. (Both running iTunes 10.5.2)
Whenever I plug my iPhone in a hit sync, it doesn't do anything. If I tick Sync Music/Apps etc. it says that all music/apps will be erased on my iPhone and replaced with the ones on the MBA. There aren't even any on the MBA. And when I tick the "Sync Apps" the iPhone homepage layout changes/deletes some Apps which worries me so I haven't actually tried syncing after clicking it (I've spent hours getting my homepage set up correctly after restoring...I really don't want that on Christmas...).
So what shall I do? Try syncing anyway? I bet this wouldn't happen if it was running Snow Leopard! I'm pretty sure it should ask to copy all the songs and stuff across and then beg for authorization, which I did before even trying to sync.
Also, is there a way to deauthorize computers remotely? I have 4 out of 5 authorized, I only want my iMac and MBA.WTMF?
When I got my iMac, I synced to it with no problem (This was October 2010). Did they stupidly change this now? So, firstly I can't merge my iTunes account with my old MobileMe account, now this? This is getting ridiculous. What next? YouTube decide to completely rearrange the channel layout so you can hardly make it look how you want?
This new concept of Apple is terrible and doesn't make sense. I thought everything's supposed to be in sync? Mac OS was so much better when I was using a PC. Now I think I'd rather go back to PC.

4 possible causes to activation server unavailable message:
1] activation server is actually unavailable. Happens very rarely and
does not last long on those rare occasions. Solution is to try again.
2] your firewall/internet security software/antivirus are preventing connection
to the activation server. Solution is to temporarily turn off your firewall/internet
security software/antivirun until you have activated your iPhone.
3] your iPhone has been jailbroken or otherwise hacked/modified.
4] the computer you are using to activate the iPhone has been used to
jailbreak an iOS device.
For causes 3] & 4] you are on your own as Terms of Use for this forum prohibit
discussion of jailbroken/modified iOS devices. Google may provide some direction.

All of your music and pics should already be on the computer you sync to on a regular basis. Extract photos in the camera roll the same way you would from any other digital camera. Photos in albums were synced TO the phone from a computer and should already be on your computer. If you have music on the phone that you purchased ON the phone from iTunes, Go to File>Transfer Purchases in iTunes with the phone connected. As with pictures in albums, music on the phone that was not purchase in the iTunes store HAD TO HAVE come from a computer in the first place and should be in your iTunes library.

I upgraded from iPhone 3GS to iPhone 6. Everything converted fine. Yesterday I deleted an app in error. When I downloaded the software it from iTunes ( did this many times on the old 3GS), my account is no longer recognized by the app's host servers (Playtika), even though it did after the initial conversion. Can I go back and re-sync just one app from my old phone?
Try deleting what is called the iPod Photo Cache.

I recently upgraded my iphone 3GS to the new ioS 5.1. After I did this and synced my phone, it won't let me play any audio from apps, itunes or music. It will allow the phone to ring but that is all. When I use viber I have to press this button and change it from docking to iphone. I take it that the phone thinks I'm permanently on a docking system.
It also will not sync my music back to my phone. My music is on itunes but it won't let it sync.
I have restored my phone twice and it still won't work - HELP!! Please???Your device is broken. If you want a device that works better than the one you have now, then you'll either need to bring your phone into Apple for out of warranty exchange ($149), or find a 3rd party repair shop in your area and see what they can do, if anything at all.
