If I upgrade to FCP5, chances of Compressor working?
Hello,
I really need to be able to use Compressor from FCP. Exporting Quicktimes and having DVDSP or Compressor encode from reference movies is taking FOREVER.
Having been through the knowledge base article on fixing the "cannot connect to background process", to no avail, and having tried every other thing I could find on the web, I am considering just buying the FCP 5/Compressor2 upgrade.
But is that likely to fix my problem? This mac is cursed!

No, that's not my particular problem. In fact, I think I was one of the very first on Apple discussions to report the problems with using old presets with Compressor 2. I reported that long before Apple posted their note about Compressor 1 presets not working with Compressor 2.
In the interim, every other report that I've seen has suggested that Compressor 2 is anywhere from 25% to 50% slower than Compressor 1. Of course, as with any other issue you're more likely to hear from people having problems than those having no problems.

Reboot the computer, see if that fixes it.
Then try:
Backup your files off the computer (not TimeMachine) and disconnect
Hold c boot off the 10.6 disk and simply reinstalling OS X
Log in and update to 10.6.8
c boot off the 10.6 disk again and use Disk Utility >Repair Disk
reboot and all should be fine, except some third party programs that install kext files, those will have to be reinstalled from fresh sources. -
Firefox 7 is forcing me to fill out a form field that isn't required. I've used FF on this site for years but when I upgraded to FF7 it no longer works. IE it works fine.
It's our internal applicant tracking systems (resume database). It works fine in IE and all previous verisons of FF but in FF 7 a bubble icon pops up stating that "Please fill out this field".
The field is not required but states "Require all of these words" if you to run a search based on those parameters. -

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking, but on the device/Settings, do you have iCloud and Photos sync turned on?

I upgraded to Mountain Lion on Macbook Pro today which I bought new three weeks ago, on the upgrade my Ethernet connection is no working, Any ideas on a fix on this issue.

If you bought the MBP new 3 weeks ago, it should have come with Mountain Lion already installed. Did you update your MBP to the newly released 10.8.4 update? If not, what OS were you running before the upgrade, and what version of Mountain Lion do you have now? -
Since I upgraded to Itunes 9 Genius not working for Nirvana
Ever since I upgraded to itunes 9 I haven't been able to use genius for any nirvana music and no nirvana music is being integrated into genius playlists/mixes. Before I upgraded all of my nirvana albums worked fine anyone know what could be causing this? I don't think it would be my song info but I double checked them all and that was fine. I also tried removing and readding them to my library which didn't help. I also tried turning off genius and deleting the itunes library genius.itdb in my itunes folder which didn't help either.
If anyone knows what could be causing this let me know thanks.wrong forum sry

Snow Leopard is the latest version your macbook 1,1 will run. Oitlook is part of the Microsoft Office suite, if you want outlook you'll need to also purchase Office. If you can get by with Apple's mail program there are free alternatives to Office like Libre Office or Open Office. -

I have just acquired an older mini mac (2006 1.66 ghz core 2 duo) Anyway, it had Tiger 10.4 on it and the Bluetooth worked for the wireless Apple keyboard and mouse. I upgraded to Snow Leopard and everything works fine - everything except Bluetooth.
The Bluetooth icon does not exist in the System Preferenc screen.
I tried to download Bluetooth from Apple site but the message I got told me that I didn't need it.
Under Finder, Utilities, I found Bluetooth File Exchange but the message I got was that I had to connect a Bluetooth device to my computer.
I have to admit that I have no idea what's going on here. I am hoping to avert the need to try another complete re-install of Snow Leopard.
Any ideas?

Thanks Barry - I found the file and trie to send it to trash. The response: (This item cannot be trashed as it it owned by the system).
After dancing around with PRAM and SMC and turning on while holding the power-cntrl-option-shift and heavens knows what else, I now have the Bluetooth symbol on the top of the menu bar but it is ghoseted and has a squiggly line through it. This, I didn't have before so I read this as some progress. It notes that "Bluetooth is not available">
However, the Bluetooth icon is still missing from the System Preferences window - you know, between "network" and "sharing".
You note that you reckon the issue is not software based and you may be correct. The reason that I wonder about that though, is that before I installed Snow Leopard, the keyboard and mouse both paired with the box under the Tiger 10.4. That leads me to conclude that hardware is functional and that there is some screwy little bit of software that is not cooperating.
If I could delete Bluetooth from the system and re-install a fresh version, that might help. Or, is there a way I can use the Snow Leopard install disc and only load in Bluetooth?
I'm stumped.

Recently upgraded to Mavericks... was working with Pages documents created with previous OS ... Pages is now frozen and I don't dare force quit and loose my old documents. How can I "thaw".... unfreeze Pages? Have several pages windows open that I was working on.
I also had this problem after I installed Mavericks: Pages files freezing at close, need to force quit.
Workaround: when saving any document created with an earlier version of Pages, be sure to untick the "include preview in document".
For some reason, this resolves the problem.
BTW "loose" is not a verb. You probably mean "lose". -
Does compressor work with MKV file containers

Does compressor work with MKV file containers? Reason i ask is, i typically make a single Mkv file (Movie.mkv) of my Blu Ray movies. Depending on the length of the movie, it can be 14 to 25 GB. I would like to comporess it further to get a good balance of quality and file size. I currently use handbrake to do it and get it down to 10GB with no noticeable difference in video quality. I was wondering if i can use compressor on my mac pro to do it faster and probably better than handbrake.
RpkWhat I do is open the .mkv in quicktime the do a Save As and choose Save As a reference movie. Then I take the reference file into Compressor and compress it to what I want.

upgraded to IOS5, now music not working right. displayed song not playing, plays 4,5 songs and stops although it appears that it is playing. Cycled pwr,didn't work. tried resyncing, same thing.Help?
I have an iPhone 4 and ever since I upgraded to iOS5 i've got the same problem. Apple need to release a patch as there's no way of fixing this unless we downgrade our phones back to iOS4 which would just suck!
I often shut the music app down and start again but even then the artwork doesn't match the song playing and will only play a few songs. It's frustrating when you're driving or going for a run, having to pull over or stop and sort it out.
We'll have to wait for Apple to bring out a patch unfortunately. -

When the update fails what if any error report do you get, specifically? Please do this before trying again:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X. -
