If i upgrade to lion i have to reinstall parallels desktop?

If i upgrade to lion i have to reinstall parallels desktop?

on Parallels Desktop 6 I believe you just google for Parallels Desktop Launcher, run the PD6 Launcher Script, and you'll be good to go!!! goodluck, I'm currently doing it on 3 new Macbook Pro and 1 iMac it works with Snow Leopard, after Lion update it giving unable to load driver, with the new launcher script fixxed the problem!
Dear Edward,
same here, no computer genius :-) I have downloaded the launcher from here:
http://art-domains.de/downloads/Launcher.zip
It is a ZIP file containing the launcher and a script. I just double clicked the launcher and then Parallels 5 started. It seems to work as normal, but to be honest I only need it for one single windows app, so I don't know if there are not some hidden bugs – I heard the Parallels Team won't bring an official patch, and there must be a reason for that. However, for me it's good enough.
When I restart my Mac (which I don't do often) and uncheck the "keep the windows open"-box (new in Lion), then I have to start Parallels 5 with the launcher again. But normally, I only used the launcher only once, and everything was like before under Snow Leopard (it's not a big trouble clicking the launcher to start Parallels anyway...)

    1. Talk to Parallels. What version? You need 4.0+ for Snow Leopard.
    2. If you have problems saving files within your home directory, this is something you changed. The OS install does not touch (or have any idea about) permissions in your home folder. Repair permissions will not help here. Also, if you are seeing SUID warnings in repairing permissions, that's not related, it's a non issue.
    3. Yes, Aperture 1.5.6 came out 2 years ago. Aperture 2 has been out for 18 months. You need to upgrade to run with Snow Leopard. Why upgrade your OS so quickly and never upgrade your photo application? It's $100 to upgrade.
    4. Haven't seen that, but have you tried repairing keychains from within Keychain Access?
    5. Does OO 3.1 support 10.6? Check with them, as this isn't a Snow Leopard issue.

For weeks I have been viewing a doggy day care center via their web cam.  This weekend I upgraded to Lion and have been unable to view the center.  I get an error message for Java plug-in 1.6.0_29 ....webcam class not found.  Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Sorry, don't know what else to suggest unless there's a URL to the problem stream that someone here can try. Otherwise we can't test it to try and determine what might be wrong.
BTW, make sure they're testing it with a Mac, not with a Windows system. If they test only with Windows, what they say is or is not working doesn't mean much.
    Regards.

  • I want to upgrade to Lion but have been told I can't because i don't have a intel based system.  Is it possible to change out the motherboard etc to do this upgrade

I want to upgrade to Lion but hav ebeentold I can't because I have a G5 non intel based system.  If this is true can I change the motherboard and install Lion

If you are running Snow Leopard OS 10.6 you do not have a PPC Mac as they cannot run it, so you already have an Intel Mac. The question is, which one?
Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, runing the latest version of Snow Leopard. The Lion upgrade can be installed on all your authorized personal Macs.
But in any case you cannot replace the motherboard with a different one in any Mac.

  • HT1338 I currently have Snow Leopard and am thinking of upgrading to Lion but have heard some bad things about it.  Should I upgrade or not? What do you like/dislike about Lion?

I currently have Snow Leopard and am thinking of upgrading to Lion but have heard some bad things about it.  Should I upgrade or not? What do you like/dislike about Lion?

It is indeed all down to what you need to do with your machine.   Snow leopard is an excellent OS and as Baltwo suggests you have to check out your current apps and programs because PPC won't work on any higher OS than the one you have.
Andy's comment is very interesting and, I suspect, insider knowledge based     Certainly I would wait for Mavericks now it is on the horizon ... and then add six months or so for the bugs to be ironed out.
Good luck, whatever you do.   I'm staying with Snow Leopard.

  • After upgrading to lion I have been experiencing "panics"

I have a mbp i7 1st gen. I recently upgraded to lion. Ever since then my screen just turns black and shuts down. I would experience it all the time as I was backing up my iphoto. But after I updated to 10.7.1 it stabilized somewhat. However, now i have been getting "panics" randomly. Atleast 2-3X a day. I am posting 2 of the panic reports. I have no idea what it means. Hope someone can help me decipher it & what should I do to stabilize my system.

  • Should I upgrade to Lion?  Have Mac Pro, 2.66Ghz, Core i7, 4GB memory, S-Leopard, purchased 11-2010.

Reading alot of comments on problems running Office 2011, Adobe CS5, Parallels etc. My system operates flawlessly - I'd like to migrate to LION but don't want to create a mess.  I've certainly read alot of applause for Lion but haven't seen anyone list the above software as part of their install.  I'd expect there are quite a few users running the same software - just need some testimonial to build my confidence that this is the right move.  Any comments will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Which raises the question of why would you want to upgrade? Lion is largely cosmetic, and a lot of those cosmetic differences are not pretty
    - removal of coloured icons in finder sidebar, making navigation more difficult
    - no scroll bar arrows making navigation more difficult (essential if you need fine control of scrollling to move around in design progs like Illustrator/ Quark),
    - autosave and versions, making everything more difficult through hideous beach balling on large photoimage files in preview or keynote if you make multiple and rapid minor changes
    - dodgy compatibility with some versions of photoshop
    - less control over where to keep your folder (apps have to be assiged to the app folder)
    - less control over what information remains on your hard disk hidden from you (including versions of your personal files).
    - if you use magic trackpad on your MP, you also loose the 4-finger swipe 'app switcher' gesture
On top of  all these 'features' you get given:
    - mission control, which is less configurable than spaces
    - launchpad, which is effectively the same as having 'stacks' and 'grid' options set on your app folder in the dock, only lunchpad takes over your whole screen and is harder to navigate.
Now, that's all IMHO opinion, of course. As someone further up in this thread advised, whatever you do use Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper to clone your current installation. If all is to your liking, you can always use that disk as a regular backup drive. If all is not, the way back to your flawless system is just a five-minute reboot away.

  • TS3276 since upgrading to Lion I have had a plethora of problems.  First my mailboxes are not working like they were.  The yahoo mailbox keeps telling me my password is not correct.  Also, when I log on several of my programs (i.e. Neat, iTunes) just pop

I have two mailboxes.  My Yahoo mailboxe keep telling me I have the wrong password and the mailbox ap keeps popping up.  I believe this is then screwing up my Outlook mailbox which is my work email account.  I had it configured fine and then upgrade to Lion.  Since upgrading my mailboxes are challenging to keep up and running.   Also, when I log in several of my programs autimatically pop up (NEAT, iTunes, etc), kind of like all the ads did when I was using MS.  Any ideas of why this is happening?  Is it a Lion issue?  What can I do to fix?

    Hellow keith5000 ,
regarding your issue lets see what we can do to solve this issue.
    - have you tried safe boot
safe boot = starting up the mac with the SHIFT- button.
    - when entering safe mode you will be able to enter and quick change some settings
now next question do the unwanted aplications still load in safe mode , if so
go to the Apple icon -> System preferences -> user & groups -> login items (top right on the screen from user & groups window)  now at login items u can close any unwanted aplications by deleting them or unmarking them
    - unwanted aplications will now disapear when starting up your mac os x system
    - next issue should be your authentication , this will be a bit more tricky , lets see
same category user & groups and u will see your admin account try seeing if u have enabled the admin account right click on your admin account to see information about it and compare it if your info is correct , next see if you have authorized your admin account to write & read.
if these still don't work , make a test account to see if this problem is user wide or system wide.

  • Upgrading to Lion will I have to reinstall Parallels

Will I have to reinstall all my programs -I am on the road and I need my Parallels- to upgrade to Lion?

You shouldn't need to however I would recommend that you check with Parallels on the web site to see you have a version that will run well on Lion. If you can hold off until you get back to your office I would strongly recommend that. if you are on the road you may not have an up-to-date backup and you ALWAYS want that whenever doing any OS X upgrades.

  • I have just upgraded to Lion and have lost front row. How do you get it back. This is a critical app for me

Having updated to Lion I have lost front row. Apple have taken out a critical app. What is the use of a computer with out the abilitl to play a dvd. How do I get it back

Front row is no longer supported in Lion.
    There are workarounds though

  • How to reinstall owned adobe acrobat 7? I have it on Parallels Desktop, but accidentally unstall on Mac :(

At first got some printing problems, I fixed them, but cannot print or find the pdf icon on printer drives.  Stupidly, I accidentally uninstall the Adobe Acrobat 7 Professional thinking i can reinstall back just like the printer drives, but then find out the disk I own show 'Windows'.  I have Parallels Desktop and this Acrobat 7 is working fine on Windows side, but I seldom open Windows, and I really really need pdf files on my Mac.  I have spend days and hours trying to find out how to reinstall or map the application back on Mac.  Please anyone can teach me how?  I even contacted Adobe Acrobat, not quite friendly.  Thanks a lot.

I only have the Windows version, i never have the Mac version, forgot how I can use it on Mac for the past years. I bought the Parallels years ago along with this Mac and limited to computer knowledge. I see 'Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional' on Mac application, thread ' 'X' Acrobat Uninstaller.app'  What does it mean, can it be recovered?

  • Upgraded to Lion - now have errors (cs5)

I recently upgraded a Mac from leopard to Lion. CS5 is fine except for Illustrator which throws the following errors on startup.
    major error code 50030
    minor error code 71521
    system error code 1
Error missing dynamic libraries (not an adobe generated error)
The program seems to run fine otherwise.
I have done a reinstall which had no effect.
    Any thoughts?
    Cheers,
    Nick

    Found a solution.
The issue was with an Esko Plugin. We removed the Plugin and all of the errors no longer show.
    Thanks for the help

  • Upgraded to Lion, should have waited...

I upgraded my 2007 Mac Pro 3GHz 8-core excellently-working, fully-updated Snow Leopard system to Lion last night.
And I am stunned at how slow everything now is on my machine.
I guess I should have waited for updates to appear, but I was an idiot and trusted all of the positive reviews on the App Store.
I am very disappointed with Lion and should have stuck with Snow Leopard (which is probably by far the best OS Apple has made).

  • Since upgrading to Lion I have Quicktime problems, it will not let me export files to iTunes, it is telling me file maybe damaged this is with wmv and quicktime formats, I also have problems with quicktime freezing and no sound on some files

    Anyone got any ideas?

OK, I did as you suggested, the first step didn't seem to do anything, I selected to download it said immediatly "thankyou for downloading" but didn't ask permission as normal downloads do and it was also instantanious, no download time waited.
So I went onto the second step, downloaded and ran the free trial, showed lots of errors as I'd expect something selling a service to do. I have no idea what the registry does but am wary not to mess with it as if its damaged it makes things very very difficult. I don't know what to do with the results on that one. The messages all seem the same:
The Default Value in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/App paths/Your App exe contains an invalid path...etc and then goes on to specify a file or someters and numbers and semi colons. There are 388 like this. Again, I have no idea what to do with that information or how essential a registry clean is. About 5 years ago I had a Sony Ericsson mobile which would not transfer pictures to my computer. I called Sony up and they did a registry clean for me. It did nothing, I was still unable to transfer pictures and made a mental not to never ever get another Sony Ericsson handset. I can't help feeling a sense od deja-vu with this so am reluctant to do anything to the registry unless someone is there to pick up the peices on the other end as I can't just afford to go out purchase another computer hard drive.
Then I went back, re-downloaded the itunes again, this time it did actually try to download something.
    I got an error message:
Error writing to file: C:/Config.Msi\2b8263.rbf. Verify that you have access to that directory
To which I said I did and to "retry"
It seemed to download fine! I have no idea what was different this time. Nothing I did was any different other then going from your link rather then the pop-up link I normally get. Maybe its just better to use a different link?
    Thanks again!
