If I upgrade to mavericks will I loose my programms

I'm thinking of purchasing a macbook in v good condition and it's has quite a few programms already installed.
If I upgrade it to Mavericks will I loose all the programs?, please advise. I think the seller may want to keep all his original disks?
Andrew

Those are not your programs. To keep them is illegal. You should erase the hard drive and reinstall the OS and then add applications that you actually own. I know that's not the answer your looking for but what you're asking about is software piracy. Sorry that's the way it is.

I am running 10.6.8 time to upgrade 10.8 will i loose some older operations like iweb?
Also if i load Mavericks will I still be able to revert back if I don't like the format?

Upgrading from 10.6 will loose Rosetta and therefore, all legacy software that relies on Rosetta.  That includes things like MS Office versions older than 2008.
You need to make a backup of your content, on an external drive, before updating so you have a means for reverting if necessary.  To revert to an older version of Mac OS X you have to erase the hard drive and then reinstall the older Mac OS X and all content.  That is easiest if done from a complete backup of your current system.

  • Running mountain lion os 10.8.5 on mac book pro mid 2012 build.  If I upgrade to Mavericks will MS Office programs still work?

I am running mountain lion os 10.8.5 on mac book pro mid 2012 build.  If I upgrade to Mavericks will MS Office programs still work?  There does not appear to be an updated version of MS Office for Mac past 2011 that I bought last year and am using now.  Thoughts? Suggestions?
    Thanks.

Office 2008 and 2011 will run on Mavericks, but you may not be able to get the installer for it at this time.

If I upgrade to maverick will I lose my installed Office Word and Excel for Mac

You shouldn't, but it would be a really good idea to make a clone of your existing installation using Carbon Copy Cloner before upgrading. That way if you have any issues with Mavericks it's very easy to go back. Without the clone it's a lot more difficult.

if i upgrade my ios will i loose anything?

If you update via iTunes al synced media like aps and music has to be in the itunes libary otherwise they will be lost
If you update via Settings>General>Software Update (starting with iOS 5), nothing is lost is update is successful. However, sometimes glitches occur and you have to restore via iTunes

  • If i upgrade to lion, will i loose my applications?

You don't lose any apps or data, but it would be wise to do a backup before upgrading.

I got an email today from a client who's buying a new macbook and wants to run fcp7 on it.  Told him he might be better off buying an older machine.
Buying an older machine is an option, but quite honestly, if your client is doing his work for professional purposes (whether for himself or 3rd parties) I would suggest that he purchase TWO older Macs (preferably the same model).
Then he can set them both up and have a backup situation when the first one fails.  In the case of using a new Mac, this is not as important, as one can always run out to the Mac store, come home with a new replacement and restore their backup/clone and be up and running with little loss of time.  That scenario is not possible with a used Mac.
Hardware drivers can function in Parallels, through USB, but not firewire.  What kind of hardware drivers are you talking about?
Lastly, I have finally found a local source who will "loan" me his copy of FCP 6 for educational/research purposes!

  • When i upgrade my ios, will I loose my voice memos

It is always a good idea to back up before an upgrade
Back up to iTunes will preserve your memos in the event you have to do a restore
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT4946
    What iTunes backs up
Photos (photos, screenshots, images saved, and videos taken) and Saved Photos (in devices without a camera).
Contacts* and Contact Favorites. (You should regularly sync your contacts to a computer or cloud service, such as iCloud.)
Health (only if you have an encrypted backup).
Calendar accounts, events, and subscribed calendars.
Safari bookmarks, cookies, history, offline data, and currently open pages.
    Autofill for webpages.
    Offline web app cache/database.
    Notes.
Mail accounts. (Mail messages aren't backed up.)
    Microsoft Exchange account configurations.
    Call history.
Messages (iMessage and carrier SMS or MMS pictures and videos).
Voicemail token. (This isn't the voicemail password, but it is used for validation when connecting. This is only restored to a phone with the same phone number on the SIM card.)
    Voice memos.

  • I have an illustrated book stored in iPhoto projects that has been printed once but will be annually updated.  If I upgrade to Mavericks, will this still be available to me for editing and reprinting.

I have an illustrated book saved in iPhoto projects which I plan to update and reprint in future.  If I upgrade my Macbook to Mavericks from Yosemite, will I still be able to access, edit and reprint this?

If you're going to update the book each year I suggest you follow this tutorial to save the book in it's own library.  That isolates it from the day to day library which could experience problems resulting in loss of project, i.e. the book: iP12 - Archiving an iPhoto 9 (11) Book for Editing and/or Ordering at a Later Date
The book library is often small enough that it can be copied to a CD or DVD for off computer backup.

  • If I upgrade to Maverick, will my Appleworks files be affected?

I use Mac OS 10.6.8. All my files are held in Appleworks, which works reasonably well although not completely and not always. I'm worried that an upgrade will one day cause me to lose Appleworks altogether. What are my options?

that software does not work on OS X 10.7 or greater.

  • If I upgrade to mavericks will my 2007 quicken program still work?

Will my 2007 quicken work with Mavericks

If you obtained your copy of Quicken 2007 before February 2012, it is PPC and will not natively work in Mavericks.
The solution is to purchase the $15 Quicken 2007 for Intel (Lion, Mt. Lion, Mavericks) from Intuit:
    http://quicken.intuit.com/personal-finance-software/quicken-2007-osx-lion.jsp
It will directly open your Quicken 2007 (PPC) data file.

  • Will Boot Camp function after upgrade to Mavericks?

Planning on upgrading from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to Mavericks.
I now have Windows XP on my Boot Camp partition. I also use an old version (2.0.8) of VMware Fusion to access the same BootCamp WinXP.  I rarely use Windows & I know my old version of VMware will not work. Would need to purchase a new version (6.x) for ~ $60.00.
But, I’m hoping I could still Option Boot into my BootCamp Windows.
Am I correct? Or after upgrading to Mavericks, will I be unable to boot into Windows w/o a bunch of fixes & troubleshooting?
    Regards,
    Steve

    Thanks!
    Fingers crossed.
As soon as I purchase iBank I will do the upgrade. Will make a bootable clone just b4 I do the upgrade.
Will run Repair Permissions as well.
    Probably late tonight or Monday.

  • If I buy a mac with mountain lion and then upgrade to mavericks wil I get iWork for free, If I buy a mac with mountain lion and then upgrade to mavericks wil I get iWork for free

If I buy a mac with mountain lion and then upgrade to mavericks will I get iWork for free.

If you buy a new Mac with Mountain Lion, any included software is free and can be redownloaded from AppStore for that machine only. Some software only gets reinstalled if OS X (only) gets installed over itself to fix issues. See #8 Step here.
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
If you upgrade to Mavericks usually only OS X itself is changed (sometimes the hidden User Library is also), all the  software (and user accounts) also carries over (compatible or not), and Apple's software is upgraded.
So if your new Mountain Lion Mac comes with free iWork, then when you upgrade to Mavericks it will still be there.
If your new Mountain Lion does not come with free iWork, then it won't magically appear for free if you upgrade to Mavericks.
If you need a free Office suit, I suggest you look at the donationware LibreOffice.
You will likely need to control key or right click to "Open" LibreOffice to approve through OS X's "Gatekeeper".
You will need to manually update it also, as it's not on AppStore.
    https://www.libreoffice.org/
Benefit of LibreOffice is it's completely cross-platform compatible, so you can share working files with Windows and Linux users, which you can't with iWork.
You also should learn Microsoft Office when you have the funds, because it's standardized in the business world.
