Yes it's MS Windows! You will need a license of MS Windows (preferable Windows 7) and from there you can decide on the strategy for running Windows on your iMac. You can use Boot Camp (you already have this) or you use virtualization software such as Parallels or Fusion. For your situation I'd recommend virtualization software. However for only one program I'd do some due diligence to see if there is a OS X version. You can start with the App store or simply use Google to search.

  • How we can find out the running window application ?

    hi all,
how can i find out the running windows application through my java program?
if anyone know any methods or classes please inform me soon...........
one way to ask is "how one can trap the running window's application through java code"?
Please do inform, if you have any valuable guidelines to achieve this
    Thanks in advance

I pretty sure this isn't possible. You could write something which uses JNI to call native methods, but you'd have to have methods avaliable to call. So suppose you wanted a process on a Windows machine to read the text in an instance of IE's address text box you'd first need a way to do this with Windows specific code. And I can't think how you'd do that - unless you are directly interacting with the OS. So I'm afraid there is no easy way to do this in Java, and even the very difficult way with JNI may not even be possible.

  • PLSQL WANTS TO RUN  WINDOWS PROGRAM FROM PLSQL PROCEDURE

WANTS TO RUN WINDOWS PROGRAM FROM PLSQL PROCEDURE.
I want to run EXE file from pl/sql program , i have tried host it does
    work in pl/sql .
Is there any Solution to this problem
    Thank you

    Hi,
It sounds like what you are trying to do, is run one mapping in a pre-mapping process of another mapping. You use a wrapper that implements sqlplus_exec_template.sql in PL/SQL. Is that correct?
I don't think that by the way you execute this mapping, it ends up in the context of the process flow. The reason is because according to Warehouse Builder the mapping is being invoked standalone (through the wrapper that implements the template). As a result, the context in which Warehouse Builder would log the messages is lost.
What I suggest you do (assuming I understand the problem correctly), is run the mapping as a separate mapping in the process flow. Because in the current release we do not support passing output parameters in the process flow, you will have to (temporarily) store the results of the first mapping in a table and pick it up from there in the other mapping. In the next major release (autumn 2004) we will support passing parameters between activities.
    Thanks,
    Mark.

  • Running Windows 7 on a Mac: updates and security

I will be purchasing a new MacBook Pro soon and will need to run Windows in order to access some corporate applications and to use Internet Explorer (for Microsoft's Share Point application, Live Meeting, etc.) for my work - fairly limited Windows applications.  I have been reading some comparisons of Fusion vs. Parallels and superficially understand the difference between the virtual machine approach and Boot Camp.  If I want to enjoy the benefits of doing most of my personal computing on a Mac, it only makes sense for me to have Windows running as an OSX application rather than have to restart to get to Windows via Boot Camp.  If I'm going to do the latter, I might as well buy a Windows PC, at least for work.
Despite searching around on the web and talking to various Apple folks on the phone and in stores, I have not been able to find clear answers about 2 issues that seem crucial in running Windows via Parallels or Fusion: (1) how does one install Windows updates, which seem to come out every few days, some of which are major fixes; and (2) what are the security concerns in running Windows as an OSX application - are there any? If there are security issues in running WIndows via Fusion or Parallels, what are the best ways to protect oneself?
A related set of questions is: (3) is it sensible to install Windows in a Boot Camp partition as well as to install it via Fusion or Parallels, or does it work to just install via the virtual machine method, at least for my purposes? If I were to install Windows both ways, would I run into licensing issues with Microsoft, where it might look to them like I was installing Windows on more than one machine?  And, if I were to install Windows natively via Boot Camp, what are the best options for security?
Thank you anyone out there who can provide answers or point me to answers.

    1.  Run Windows Update like you would on any other PC.
    2.  Windows is Windows no matter how it's installed so it's susceptable to the same viruses you could get by running it on any other PC.
    3.  Both Parallels and Fusion can boot from an installation of Boot Camp. you don't nee to install Windows twice.

  • Can I use Remote Desktop to run Windows software from my Mac

Here's what I want to do:
    1) Set up a small office LAN with an Apple Xserve as the file server; clients are mostly iMacs but a few PCs.
    2) There are one or two software apps I need that exist only in the Windows world (such as a good document comparison software like DeltaView).
    3) I want to have one dedicated PC for my one or two essential Windows apps and then run Remote Desktop Connection on my Mac client to launch the Windows app on the PC client and use it to edit or otherwise manipulate a data file stored on the server.
    Is this possible?

    Thanks for your prompt reply.
OK, maybe I'm missing something basic but then why would I ever want to run Windows network in my office? The bugbear about Macs is that there is certain Windows software for which there is no good Mac equivalent. But you are telling me that as long as I have a couple of Windows boxes, I can run my Windows software on them through my Mac, even though the data files are stored on an separate box (an Xserve).
Now, for the $64 question -- is it possible to set up a network in such a way that I could use RDC on my PowerBook in, say, Chicago to run the software installed on the Windows box and in turn to open and manipulate the files stored on the Xserve in my office, halfway across the world in Abu Dhabi? Would this be a particularly difficult configuration?
    Thanks,

  • The first time I start Firefox it is very slow coming up but after it is up and I want another window it fast again. What do I need to do to clean out whatever is clogging it up.

    Question
The first time I start Firefox it is very slow coming up but after it is up and I want another window it fast again. What do I need to do to clean out whatever is clogging it up. edit

    * The first time you start up any application after turning on your computer is called a cold start, which is why Firefox takes a while to load right away. (I've noticed that future versions of Firefox start up faster on a cold start then Firefox 5.0.1.) Also, a lower amount of RAM could be slowing its start-up down since Firefox is kind of memory hungry.
    * As for the second part of your question, press ctrl,Alt, and the delete keys on your keyboard. The Windows Task Manager should start. Go to the processes tab and look for 'firefox.exe'. Right click on the firefox.exe and click 'End Process'. Hit Yes and wait for a minute.
    * Then opening Firefox again.
    Hopefully this helped somewhat!

Third-party NTFS software interferes with the Apple NTFS drivers, which control whether you can see the Bootcamp partition in the Startup Disk option. As a test, can you uninstall all third-party NTFS software and check System Preferences -> Startup Disk?

  • Run Windows 8.1 on Mac Air 100%?  How to update Mac Firmware?

I know it's possible to run Windows 100% on my Mac through BootCamp (I have small SSD hard drive so it is one or other).  My question is if I install Mavericks on a USB thumb drive will I still receive firmware updates from Apple via keeping the USB updated?  Or, will those firmware updates just stay on USB?
    Thanks.

What a question. Theoretically, if you keep OS X Mavericks installed in a USB drive and it is updated, you will be able to receive firmware updates and to get them installed in your Mac.
To install firmware updates in your Mac, OS X copies the firmware to the EFI partition (a small partition at the start of the drive), and they are installed the next time your Mac starts up. This means that your USB drive with OS X Mavericks must be formatted in "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" and have a GUID partition table. With this, all firmware updates will be installed to your computer.

  • Will boot camp run windows XP on a Mac book pro retina

Will boot camp run windows XP on a Mac book pro retina

No. The newest Mac OS X version capable of setting up Windows XP or Vista in Boot Camp is 10.6.8, which is too old for that Mac model.
You may be able to use it inside a product such as VirtualBox, Parallels Desktop, or VMware Fusion.

  • Insteade of using mac os on macbook pro, i wanted to install windows 8 pro on mac book pro, will that void my warranty

insteade of using mac os on macbook pro, i wanted to install windows 8 pro on mac book pro, will that void my warranty

Installing any OS you want on your machine will not void the warranty.  Only making hardware changes other than those listed as "user servicable" by Apple, or negligence will void your warranty.
I will warn you that there might be SMC or EFI udates you will want for your Mac hardware that are only available if you are runnign Mac OS.  For this reason, you may want to keep a small partition on your drive which still has Mac OS installed, or at the very least, keep an external HD around to be able to boot Mac OS.  Additionally, if you are having hardware issues, like a failing DVD writer, you may have a harder time getting Apple to repair it under warranty if you can not reproduce the error under Mac OS.  When I had the DVD writer replaced in my first MacBook Pro, I found the problems trying to write discs under Windows 7, but when the tech could reproduce an error under Mac OS, he quickly accepted it was a hardware problem and not software.  Without reproducing it under Mac OS, he admitted that he might not be able to get them to replace the drive.

  • HT5129 what if i don't want the album imported to my iPhoto? what do I need to do?

what if i don't want the album imported to my iPhoto? what do I need to do?  I get the same message every time I open iPhoto. tried to download for 3 hours and not much happened. all albums are on my iPhoto already so I don't want to download again.

Go into iPhoto's Accounts preference pane and delete the MobileMe account.  That should stop those messages. If they come up just click on the More Information buttion.  That will circumvent the download and take you to an Apple website that you an close and ignore.
Also log out of MoblleMe in the System/MobileMe preference pane.
