  • Buying a Mac mini for music

I'm buying a Mac mini in September - so I will have Snow Leopard - to use with the latest version of Logic and the latest version of Pro Tools and use for my college work and recording my band. I plan on using an M-Audio MobilePre USB, external hard drive and multitrack firewire interface for recording. Will I be able to use all of these devices simultaneously by using some kind of firewire hub without any noticable latency or driver/hardware problems? If it will not be as plug and play can somebody offer some kind of assistance? I am getting the 120GB model with a 2GB memory upgrade so I can get the maximum graphics memory as well. Thanks in advance.

I cannot answer your other questions, but I believe that you can confirm this with Apple, you can go ahead and make your purchase now and get a free copy of Snow Leopard when it is available. Apple has always had a free upgrade program for those who made recent purchases just before the upgrade release date.

No idea if Windows will do it, but you can run Windows without Bootcamp & have OSX available at the same time, which should give you all the Monitors that OSX uses.

You won't need a plug adapter if you buy a figure-of-eight mains lead (like most portable radios etc) with a UK plugtop to replace the original lead.

  • For a Macbook Air will I need to buy a mac mini to run additional programs like photoshop and games

As a graphic design student I wanted to own a laptop that was capable of running Adobe programs and games, but I bought a 2014 Macbook Air; 128GB of storage, 4GB of memory, and runs at 1.4 Ghz. With this information will I still be able to run programs with no problem or will I need to buy a Mac Mini to run all the programs and games that'll be too much for my Air.

Your MacBook Air has turbo boost up to 2.7GHz >  http://store.apple.com/us/buy-mac/macbook-air?product=MD711LL/B&step=config
Check Adobe's website for minimum requirements for the apps and games you want to use.
Turbo boost is a technology integrated into Intel processors that temporarily increases the speed of the processor when needed.

    Thanks

As I said you need to:
You need to wipe the hard disk and reinstall the OS by booting into the recovery partition and reinstall the original OS via the internet. It will ask you to enter your ID

  • I'm looking to buy a Mac mini, has the tv connection issue been totally fixed yet?

As above. I'm looking to buy a Mac mini 2.6 i7 fusion drive and want to connect it to my Panasonic viera HDTV. (27") read a lot about People having issues connecting to a HDTV. My tv only has 2 hdmi ports, no dvi VGA etc. if it hasn't been fixed I'm going to have to purchase a Smaller monitor due to lack of space!
    Thanks in advance.

  • 2008 Mac Mini - what webcam can I buy for this computer?????

OMG help me. I have a 2008 Mac Mini - I need to skype and have tried a few webcams that either just don't work or there is no sound - I understand it nees to be the correct kind for mac... so what webcam can I use on this computer I've been researching for days and can't seem to find any definitive answers anywhere online.... what webcam can I buy for a mini mac 2008??

    Try this:
    http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Widescreen-Calling-Recording-960-000694/dp/B004FH O5Y6
Works for me and Skype, anyway.
The microphone will have to be built-in to the camera and USB-connected - like the one above (and NOT a pink 3.5mm plug!)
You also sure you're selecting the correct audio input on the webcams you've already tried?

  • Should I buy I Mac mini?

I want to connect my computer (my only computer-macbook) to my TV LCD HD1080p 120hz. I know I can do this with HDMI cable (but may need HDMI to DVI to mini DVI connectors to connect tv to laptop - not sure). My laptop is working wirelessly with DSL modem using high speed DSL to connect to internet. I have an airport extreme base station that is not currently attached to anything.
I'm considering buying the mac mini to connect TV to internet instead of HDMI cables. I have very limited amount of space by my TV. I only have a cheap portable DVD player attached--no other equipment. Any thoughts? I also need a way to backup computer (time capsule maybe).

Could you elaborate on connecting external drive to mac mini to back-up.
if you get an external HD (USB or firewire), just plug it into your Mac - time machine (TM) will ask you if you want to use this drive for backups.
see _*Time Machine 101*_ for information.
Which would do the backing up the mac mini or the external drive?
TM will back up the entire contents of your startup disk to the backup drive, unless you specify items to be excluded from backups.
see the _*Time Machine FAQ*_ user tip.
Would that be cheaper than time capsule
probably. of course, a time capsule (TC) is very convenient if you have e.g. a portable computer because you can back up wirelessly to it. the TC is also a wireless router (more precisely, a wireless router with a built-in hard drive).
however, all drives will fail eventually. there4, many users make bootable clones of their startup disks using e.g. _*Carbon Copy Cloner*_ in addition to TM backups.

    Thanks for the help =)

Do you mean the online Apple store or physical ones?  In any case, I'd expect the same rules to apply to both.  But I have no specialized knowledge about Apple's stores, so that's just a guess.

  • I recently was given an old mac Mini from a friend, but iPhoto is not installed, and it is too old a version to support a current update - what can I do?

I was recently given a Mac Mini from a friend.  It is an old version (model A1176) and cannot support a current version of iPhoto from the app store.  It originally came with iLife, but was apparently wiped when they cleaned the hard drive to give it to me, and they cannot find the CD to reload it.  I can no longer find iLife '11 in the app store.  Is there anything I can do to be able to store photos from my iPhone onto the computer?

You Model does not support the latest iLife
What specific Mini do you have? The A1179 covers three models
How to identify Mac mini models
The early and late 2006 can only go to 10.6.8 but the mid 2007 can go to Lion. With Lion you can get iPhone from the Mac App Store by:
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
Otherwise you will have to call Apple and order the iLife DVD or get a DVD from Amazon or other places.

  • HT5446 If I buy a mac mini with a fusion drive and add windows using boot camp, can I make the SSD function be dedicated to the windows partition?

If I buy a mac mini with a fusion drive and add windows using boot camp, can I make the SSD function be dedicated to the windows partition?

Additional information from Linc's post. Basically, only one additional partition can be added to a Fusion Drive and it resides on the HDD.
Do computers that come with a Fusion Drive support Boot Camp?
Yes. Use the Boot Camp Assistant to create a Windows partition and install Boot Camp. The Windows partition will exist on the hard disk drive, not the Flash drive, and is not part of Fusion Drive Logical Volume Group. 3TB Fusion Drive configurations need to update to OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3 or later to install Windows 8. See iMac (27-inch, Late 2012): Boot Camp alert with 3T hard drive for more information.

  • Based off last update should I buy the Mac Mini?

    Hello,
I think this is my first post on the Apple Discussion Boards.  It may seem a little weird but me get down to it.
I want to buy a Mac Mini to run Windows 7 on it to run as computer that runs like an Apple TV showing HD streaming content over my Wireless N network to my HD TV via HDMI and to run as a proxy server to route all my internet traffic on my network through it.  The reason I want a Mac Mini is for the energy effciency of it.
That being said I'm worried about buying a Mac Mini because it hasn't been updated in over 450 days and I keep thinking that they will release something that will better suit my needs.
What do you folks think about this?   Should I spring for it now?  Will the MD387LL/A fit my needs?

My experience going back to 2006, is that regardless of what Intel Mac you get, Windows will run faster on it than on ANY PC that costs less than $10,000.
And you can stream to a TV with OS X. You really don't need Windows for that.

  • If i buy a mac mini 2.8 can i use fcp x ?

    Hello
    DUE TO BUDGET CONSTRAINTS
If i buy a mac mini
    2.8GHz dual-core Intel Core i5
    8GB memory
    1TB Fusion Drive1
    Intel Iris Graphics
    OS X Yosemite
can i run fcp x efficiently? or would fcp 7 work better?
if i can .... i  have (4) 1 tb hard drives that i would run on a raid if possible for external storage
    thanks
    sarareika

EXternal hard drive(s) is a must for a smooth UX.
nice2have would be 16GBRam, but for 'average' use 8 does it.
see my specs: aside Ram, my Mac has less 'power' and works perfect.
    for my needs.
