Does anyone know if you buy Leopard now or use the up-to-date form do you get the Install DVD with the most recent release (10.5.1) or do you still get 10.5 and have to update online? Does anyone know if Apple usually updates the Install DVDs only for major releases? I was told by Apple on the phone that they do not update the Install DVDs unless it's a "major" release. There is absolutely no reason to wait for an updated DVD. There is no difference between an updated DVD installation and an installation that has been updated via Software Update. More valid reasons may exist to hold off but this ain't it.
I'm personally holding off while waiting for a couple of updates from developers whose software I use. AlchemyTV DVR is one for example. You should make a careful study of what applications you depend on that must work under Leopard. Various reliable Mac sites like MacFixit and MacInTouch have user lists of what works, what doesn't, what has been updated to work, when updates are expected, and so on. It is naive to think everything on one's system will work with Leopard when Leopard itself is a massive upgrade with many changes, additions, and subtractions.

A movie clip before the actual DVD menu

Excuse me if this has been discussed earlier and please post a link to that topic so I don't pollute the forum.
I would like to author my wedding DVD, using Premiere Pro CS3 and Encore CS3, with a menu, where before the actual buttons a movie appears that has to be watched before one can select a chapter or fast forward.
You see this in commercial DVDs where a copyright warning has to be read and cant be skipped.

If you simply right click on any timeline in the project window, you will see a list of options for that timeline starting with "Transcode Settings". If you look down that list (about 3/4 the way down) you should see "Set as First Play". Click that and you should notice that a little 'play' button has embedded itself on the timeline icon next to the timeline you just chose.
Secondly, in the properties tab for that timeline there will be a space labeled "Operations: All Permitted." Encore permits all operations on a DVD by default. If you do not want anyone to be able to skip over this intro before the actual menu, click the button that says "Set..." and simply check the box next to "None."
Now, all you have to do is make sure that there are no End Action's, Overrides, or Menu Remote buttons that link back to that First Play and you should be all set.

A problem with iDVD, i can't make the actual DVD... not enough space

And that's odd, because the DVD is a 4.7 GB Single-sided, and i've put in the menu 5 video, for a total of 500-600 MB.
Why i can't burn it? And do you know programs to make video size smaller? Thanks.

The way to find out is look under project info again. If it gives you an option to switch to double layer disc, like it does with me. Then that signals that your computer can handle them. Thats what I remember reading anyway.

Im trying to burn DVD with short video. What format do I need to export to? The video is grabbed from standard DivX avi file.
btw, how big (in MB) should be the video long 26seconds?

Standard DVD uses MPEG encoded files. Use the Adobe Media Encoder with a DVD export preset. The length of the exported file depends on many export settings.

Configuration question(s) and when to buy the new MBP

1)If I was going to get a new mbp today, what i had in mind was to get the 15 inch mbp(2.53 ghz) and upgrade the processor to 2.8 for an extra 300 bucks. Then since I have an external hard drive and space isnt really an issue for me, I was going to downgrade the hardrive on the mbp from 320 gigs ATA at 5400 to the 250 gig ATA at 7200 to save a few bucks. Now this is actually an upgrade in quality/speed..correct? because the speed is now 7200 as compared to 5400? So it will preform better than the orriginal 320 at 5400?
2) As far as buying the actual computer I want to try to get it around or just after christmas.....if not then, I would get it at the beginning of summer around May. Now it is probable that apple will work out any bugs that owners report in that time. So do you guys think it is better to wait til May so that everyone who has their brand-spanking new mbp's can report any issues and then apple will iron these out? Generally I like to try and wait a little while to buy a brand new model of anything computer related so that anything apple missed can be fixed. What do you guys think about this?

The 250 will perform faster then the 320 because of the rotational speeds

There will always be a faster computer coming out in a few months. If you need/want one in December buy it then. Intel is only going to provide an update (speed bump) to its penryn line next year sometime and will be releasing the Nahelem i7 mobile chipset until Q4 2009 or Q1 2010 which means in all likelihood apple will not be using the next generation chips until 2010. Buy now (or December) because the product line was just updated and the next update is quite a bit down the road

ITunes library mysteriously dissapeared (not the actual files where they are stored) and once I transfered songs back to iTunes, some purchased songs had been corrupted (missing tags

Last week, I purchased around 9-10 songs. The previous day, I had played songs from my iTunes library... everything working normal. The day after purchasing those 9-10 songs... I noticed that my entire songs in my library (and playlist) where gone, essentially being re-set like new. I updated my iTunes version, re-started my PC and still... nothing was showing up except those 9-10 songs. I did the next logical thing which was to check the actual music folder that stores the songs. They where all there. It did not make any sense as I had not done or noticed anything unsual while using iTunes before. Now, I want to mention that I use a DJ software (mixvibe) with the ION Discovery DJ that pulls tracks from iTunes. For the past couple of months they both have worked great. Fast forwarding to my issue, I went ahead and copied all the music back to iTunes. I spent a good hour making sure that everything worked and re-created my playlists. One thing that struck me as odd was that while checking everything... some songs that I had purchased recently and even a couple of months ago that I've used on my mixvibe software... had the track info deleted. The only information was the track name, ex. (01 - Bird One). For some reason, they were dumped into a "Unknown Artists" file. There was a good 20-25 songs that had this issue. The one thing that I noticed was that when I would highlight the song within the Uknown Artist folder... All of the information including cover art was showing up at the bottom of the folder (if you are familiar with Windows 7 you know what I'm talking about). How can it be that all of the actual information was still there yet not showing up in iTunes? I had to manually go one by one of those 20-25 songs and add all of the track info (as much as I could). I was also able to recover some of the cover art but not all. It seems like the files got corrupted. Can I re-download these tracks again or how can I get them to how they were originally? HELP!

I find the best way to do this is to right click on the song in iTunes and convert then select convert ID3 tags to V1.1 this usually completes the tag and adds all the missing info, provided it is in iTunes corectly.
Were these songs you Dled or ripped form a cd directly?

MBPro won't read SL DVD - can I copy the install DVD on a PC?

My MacBook Pro won't read the SL install DVD (as others have had problems with). I have access to a PC with DVD to DVD copy ability. My question is, can I burn a copy of the install DVD to another DVD and use that copy (assuming my MB will be able to read the copy DVD)? Is this possible? Any tips on how would be much appreciated - a shame to buy the install DVD and unable to use it. Buying an external DVD drive doesn't make sense, as I plan on upgrading my MB with the year. Thanks!

I'm not sure why you think that would work. Either the disk is damaged, in which case you won't be able to magically create a good copy, or your drive is damaged, in which case it's not going to read a copy any better than the original.
Is this a new disk, or have you used it before? Is it readable in other machines? Can your Mac read other disks?

if you're not in a big rush - why not hold off until Adobe and Microsoft releases an update to support the Retina Screen.
Don't get me wrong - the Macbook Retina is a good and videos look great - but when it comes to Photoshop, it's a little blurry and the fonts in Excel and Word is pretty blurry too.....I own one....
In any event, if it's something you can live with - then by all means - go for it.....
Otherwise - get the non Retina Macbook Pro - it's cheaper, and it's user upgradeable in both RAM and Hard Drive.

Yesterday I was told that my ipad which I finished paying off in March (18)month loan , could not be fixed. The warranty had run out 150 days ago, it was now useless! The solution is to put out 299 dollars for a replacement! I am saddened, shocked and very diasappointed in apple products. This is my only computer, I waited to get this version ipad so I could finance it, and am dependent on it for Bill paying, etc.. It seems not to be shutting down, so I am reaching out to this community for suggestions . I now can not open any of my apps. there are some things you can try. I'm sure you've done the reset. Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds until you see the silver apple. See if it'll reboot.
You can also try to restore your iPad. You may need to borrow a friend's computer to do this.
If you have another apple store in the area you can make an appointment and take it in for a second opinion. however, once that device is out of its factory warranty period Apple is pretty much done with it. You get a year, two if you buy the extended warranty, then once it hits that deadline, all you'll ever get is an out of warranty replacement (which is what you were offered). Then it's up to you to decide if you replace it with your same model, put the money towards a newer model, or choose something else. (for me, I have an ipad 2, which is 2.5 years old, so if something goes wrong with it I either toss 249 at a practically defunkt device or put the money towards somethine else that will have a longer life span)
