If I were to upgrade my RAM would Applecare still cover my MBP?

I have a Mid 2012 13" MacBook Pro (non-retina) with 2.9 GHz i7 processor. I had it upgraded as far as Apple would when I bought it, but I'm finding that for my motion graphics, I need more RAM. Would Applecare still cover my MBP if I upgraded it to 16GB of RAM?

Yes provided nothing was damaged during the install and the new RAM is not covered, so you should keep the factory RAM to switch back in case of a warranty call.
Your problem is your using the wrong machine for the job. More RAM isn't going to make much of a difference in your graphics case as that machine only has poor integrated CPU graphics, not the more powerful dedicated graphics on the 15" and up.
Why is my computer slow?

What the more RAM will allow you yo do is run more programs at the same time and/or larger files with beter performance, will make little difference on the graphics.

Probably not.  But they may help you and give you some service for a reduced rate depending on what is wrong with your iPad.  For example if you cracked the screen they may sell you a refurbished one for a reduced price.

  • Would AppleCare Warranty Cover the Problems Mentioned?

    Hello all,
I'm new in posting this so please bear with me.
I've got a few queries on the problems with my MacBook Pro 15" 2.4GHz 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM and I'm wondering whether AppleCare will cover them.
My MBP's main issue is the fact that the right USB port in totally unresponsive, mouse, printer, external HD, plugged in and it doesn't detect at all.
Another one is the fact that when I restart from Boot Camp back onto OS, the clock setting advances approximately 6-7hrs forward and the trackpad becomes nonresponsive for tapping. While these can be remedied by opening system preferences and waiting for the clock to update and uncheck/recheck Secondary Tap for trackpad, it bothers me that it happens at all.
The rest are like hiccups, they don't kill you but it bothers you like heck it's there in the first place, especially considering you paid quite a price for the machine:
    1. the faded/worn ASD keys
    2. a dent on the left palm rest
    3. tarnishing of the lower end of the palm rest, near the track pad
    4. static shock when charger is plugged in when left arm brushes bottom left corner of MBP
Would AppleCare cover the abovementioned 'flaws'?
Has been barely a year old, this trusty MBP.

This is not Apple. We are users just like yourself. I'm sure you will get opinions and speculations pertaining to your issues from other users but the definitive authority on what is covered or not is AppleCare. Some issues may and some may not be covered. So, you really need to call them and inquire.

Click here.  This tells you what you would like to know.  You could also install the free Crucial System Scanner Tool which will scan your system to find the exact configuration you currently have and what you could upgrade to.
Let me know if this helps.

I don't see any DDR3L on the page for the RAM that would fit your model -> http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3_133 3MHz_SDRAM.
But the answer is that it doesn't really matter - just make certain to get 1333MHz.

  • Can I upgrade my RAM from 4GB to 8GB for my MacBook Pro 13(early 2011 2.7GHz)? And how much would it be?

Can I upgrade my RAM from 4GB to 8GB for my MacBook Pro 13(early 2011 2.7GHz)? And how much would it be?

you can upgrade to 16GB if you wish to do so...
average price for 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 is around $50 - $75 depending on the brand.
why not spend $100 and go with 16GB 1333MHz from Crucial or Corsair.
you can get them from Amazon.com or newegg.com
see image below with 16GB Patriot Mac Series 1333MHz for $100.

  • Is it possible to upgrade the graphics card on a mid 2012 MacBook Pro? And is it possible to upgrade the RAM without voiding the warranty?

Hi I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade the graphics card on a MacBook Pro and the RAM without voiding the warranty? I have a gt 650m in my MacBook Pro, non retina, and to me, its not enough power for me, so i was looking around, and I found a retailer that would give me a nvidia gtx 660m for a decent price. Also, the ram needs to be at least 12gbs, to ensure that my computer would run fast.
If you can help, please tell me,
    Thankyou.

No, the video card cannot be exchanged - you have a pretty decent GPU there; not sure why you'd want to switch it out. You can upgrade the RAM to a maximum of 16GBs. Apple recommends upgrading in matching pairs, so I don't really think I'd try 4GB and 8GB stick.
Both Crucial and OWC have memory available for the new Macs. Both are reputable dealers and know Macs well and I would only buy from these sources (and I would buy Crucial, were it me).
Although your Mac didn't come with a users manual outlining the installation of the additional RAM, you can download the late 2011 model users guide as the models themselves are almost identical.
Good luck - write back with any questions.

  • Upgrade the ram on my 4710s Probook.

I am looking to upgrade the ram on my Probook 4710s. When I look up the specs of the part number VA024PA#ABG it says the it can use DDR2 or DDR3. see http://h20195.www2.hp.com/V2/GetPDF.aspx/c01722937.pdf
This does not sound right. I ran a program called CPU-Z and it indicates that I have 2 x 2048 Mb DDR2 modules installed.
Is it possible to use DDR3 RAM in this notebook?
Also, why does my System Properties show that I have 2.96GB or RAM?
    Thanking you in advance. John

DDR3 is cheaper and faster but the modules are different so they will not fit your laptop. You should be able to run 8 gigs but 4 gig modules of DDR2 are still prety expensive and I doubt the upgrade would do a lot for you. You have 3 gigs useable because of video use and also you likely have a 32 bit operating system. If you were going to try to run 8 gigs you would have to install 64 bit.

  • I am having consistant problems w/ my mb pro freezing for 20-60 seconds while working in different programs and apps. i've upgraded my RAM to 8gigs and deleted over 60 gig of pics and videos to try to help, but nothing seems to work.

I've now been having this problem for months. It just freezes up and either shows me the dumb color wheel or doesn't show me anything sometimes and i just cant do anything for about 20-60 seconds. i can't exposae or anything. Also while working on a power point presentation it froze 4 different times for good and i had to do a hard restart just to get it working again. i lost my work and had to keep starting over. it was so annoying. it seems most of the time it does it, it is while i'm in Excel, Outlook, or Powerpoint. so perhaps it has something to do with my microsoft office. but i have the newest version and all the updates and everything. and i believe its happened when doing other tasks too. So i just can't figure it out.
A few Mac friends suggested i free up some space on my hard drive and upgrade my RAM. So i did. i put all my videos and photos on an external harddrive and deleted them all on my computer. i also upgraded to 8 gigs of RAM.
And honestly i can't even tell a difference after doing both of these.
HELP! PLEASE HELP! I'M ABOUT TO GO CRAZY. And having all the non Mac believers telling me it cause i have a Mac even drives me more nuts..
    Jason

    Any of this help?
it froze a few times over the last hour and half while browsing the internet.
and also while working in excel it all of the sudden shut down excel and said. "Excel has encountered and problem and needs to shut down, you may lose the work you were on." or something like that. THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME TOO. Excel, outlook and powerpoint frequently just shut down on me out of now where. I've bolded and underlined when this happened.

  • I am extremely disappointed with my imac's speed. should i upgrade the RAM?

I bought this lovely machine so that when i come back home, i can push aside my 12" toshiba work laptop and enjoy working on my music and photos and internet browsing on the imac.
the music (ipod +itunes) and browsing works great, but as soon as i get onto iphoto (v5.0.4), it just takes years to get anything done and sometimes it just closes down on me. i have times that colourful round ball rotaing at times for over 40 minutes! i have just 8,000 photos and i just cannot use iphoto at all. also, i'm not all that savvy (or inclined) to try and figure out other softwares - i just assumed that apple's own software and hardware would combine really well in an application that it is really well known for (digital imaging).
so do you reckon it's a hardware issue (RAM or something like that) or that iphoto isn't upto the task? i would use another software for organising the photos if necessary, but i do quite like the way in which iphoto does the organising - when it works.
hope someone out there has some ideas for me!
    cheers

Thank you all for the replies! I'm going to work through what each of you have suggested and see how much it helps. The 40 minutes of processing time is not an exaggeration. In fact, it sometimes takes longer than that - but I think it's hanging - so i've forcibly shut down the application.
Al - cheers for your immediate tips - they have certainly helped. I disallowed other shared libraries, dropped the shadow and reduced the photo size to approximately a small thumbnail and the speed has most certainly improved! it still takes a few minutes every now and then, but it's decidedly better.
Dan - I'll try Onyx (first i'll figure out what it is!) to clean things up, i imagine.
Jerry, thanks for the tip on iphoto buddy. i'll certainly try it when i have the time. it'll also help me keep the photos i don't want everyone to see aside, i imagine!
And Rod - these are all jpegs from my NikonD70, i haven't started shooting RAW as yet, as i have to figure out how to process those first! I'll probably upgrade the RAM to 2gigs and to ilife'06 in the next week or two. I'll go through the routine that you suggested for checking for directory corruption as well.
Thanks a lot to all of you! i'm sure i'll be back on track very soon!
    cheers,
    sidlal

  • Upgrade: more Ram or SSD ?

I am using a Mac mini 2009 with 2 GB Ram Mac OS 10.5.8
It looks like there are two options to upgrade my Mac.
    1. upgrade the Ram from 2 GB to 4 GB
    2. replace the internal hard drive with SSD
I just want to improve the overall performance.
    Which one would you recommend?
    Thank you.

Of course, the ultimate prize would be to upgrade both, but for overall performance, go SSD.
The difference is so noticeable and rewarding.
I had an early 2008 MB Pro 15" which I'd used a Cardbus SSD in the Expresscard slot for over a year. Now I have a current model MB Pro 15" which I do love, but in many respects it's no faster than my old one with the SSD.
If you are planning to do a lot of video editing and transcoding, image editing, etc. then the SSD has less noticeable improvement and is better served by better CPU and more RAM. But if you're consuming content, using social networking, importing and managing lots of files, databases, etc. then SSD it is. Reboots, launching multiple applications, Cmd+Tab(bing) between apps are all accelerated greatly by SSD.
An interesting idea, I've seen positive reacting to the new hybrid drives form Seagate which combine SSD with traditional HD storage. This way you still get 500GB but also, SSD and lower cost. In fact, then you could buy the RAM too!

  • Upgrading Notebook RAM

Hi, I've had my HP Pavilion m6 1006tx for about 11 months now and I have had success in most basic forms of gaming (minecraft and other not so intesive games). Now my computer has an Intel core i7-3612QM multi-core cpu running @ 2.1ghz to 3.1 with intel boost aswell as an AMD 7670 2GB dedicated RAM graphics card. But I am here to talk about upgrading my RAM, I have noticed that 4GB of RAM doesn't allow me to run much and all-in-all barely able to run a game requiring a minimum 2GB of RAM, so I want to know if I would void my warranty if I upgraded my RAM.
I also want to know whether RAM like this one from dicksmith (http://www.dicksmith.com.au/computer-accessories/dse-8gb-ddr3-1600mhz-nbook-ram-dsau-xm5717) would work with my laptop's current RAM that comes with the laptop, as in can I use RAM from two different brands first of all and second, can I used two different amounts of RAM at one time?
Thanks for replying if you do. Also if you need any more specifications, or don't understand anythings please state so and I will clarify with you the details

  • Can i send in my macbook air to upgrade the ram

i would like to know if i can send my macbook air in to apple to upgrade the ram?

They don't want hands poking around inside then a zillion calls from the hipsters that fried their mother boards.
Actually the reason is that, even on the 2012 models, the RAM is still soldered directly to the logic board.  If you order it with 8GB, it is manufactured with 8GB... it isnt' upgraded after the manufacture.  This is no different than the 2GB and 4GB options on previous Airs... only now you have an 8GB option.

  • My macbook pro has service battery, what could happen if i upgrade the ram to 8gb

My macbook pro has service battery, what could happen if i upgrade the ram to 8gb

"Service Battery" means just that - you need to make an appointment with your local Apple Store or AASP and have the battery checked out and, likely, replaced.
If you upgrade to 8GB it will have no effect on the battery. 8GB is sort of the minimum that I would shoot for.
