  • How do I wipe my hard drive clean so I can sell my iMac G3?

I have an iMac G3 (model #5521) with OS 9 and need to know how to wipe the hard drive clean so I can safely sell it. I tried following the advice someone gave to an earlier post, but was unable to find the security screen for the Zero All Data option or even Disk Utility on the Installer menu for that matter. I have these discs: Software Install, Software Restore and Apple Hardware Test. If someone would be so kind as to walk me through the process step by step, I would greatly appreciate it. I know very little about Apple computers.

You need to boot to the Software Install CD-ROM that came with the iMac. To do so boot the computer off the CD-ROM by holding down the C key. Once it boots up open the Utilities folder displayed in the open CD-ROM window. Open Drive Setup. Open the Functions menu. Select the option labeled Options. In that window select the Zero All Data option checkbox. Open the initialization menu. Select initialization options. You want to make sure the iMac formats its hard drive in HFS+ or Mac OS Extended. Once you've selected all the initialization options click the Initialize button. It will then format the hard drive & check it for bad sectors. Then reinstall the Mac OS. Then it should be ready to sell.

  • Wipe my hard drive clean except for the OS whats the best way?

I need to wipe my hard drive clean except for the OS whats the best way?

From Kappy (note: with this method, you will need to update to the present OS version using the appropriate Combo Update from Apple Downloads.)
Boot from the OS X Installer Disc One that came with the computer. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities (Installer menu if using Panther or Jaguar) menu. After DU loads select the startup volume from the left side list then click on the Erase tab. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) then click on the Options button. Select the one pass Zero Data option and click on the OK button. Then click on the Erase button.
Note: You can skip the Zero Data option if you are not concerned about removing sensitive personal data from the hard drive. If you choose to skip this part of the process then it is possible for others to recover data from the hard drive. The Zero Data procedure will prevent others from getting access to your personal information.
This process will take 30 minutes to several hours depending upon the size of the hard drive. After formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Now complete the OS X installation. At the completion of the installation do not restart the computer. Instead just shut it off. The next user will be presented with the Setup Assistant when they turn on the computer just as it would if new out of the box.

  • Is there any way to completely wipe my hard drive clean without losing the basic operating system

is there any way to completely wipe my hard drive clean without losing my operating system

Stellar Wipe Mac is a wiping software that wiper a hard drive beyond the scope of recovery. You can select from the software which drive to wipe leaving the OS X intact. Else, if the drive is a single partition then no software will be able to wipe without wiping the OS X. So be careful.

  • Software to wipe my hard drive clean

    hello
I am a novice and would like to wipe my windows xp hard drive clean and reinstall windows xp over again.  I have attempted to do some homework / research and this method appears to be the  is the easiest for
    me to work with.
I downloaded an application called Derik's Boot and Nuke and burned it on to four cd's  through a  software called ISO Buster.   When burning one cd I saw a
total of four different methods of burning Derik's Boot and Nuke using  ISO Burner. So I burned all four methods on four different  cd's.   When I  wipe  out my hard drive I need to load just
one of the four discs in my computer and I am not certain which one to use.  These are the four types of  discs  I have burned.
    1.  ISO Buster DBAN ( Short for Derik's Boot and Nuke ) Extracted Video Files
    2.  ISO Buster DBAN Extracted User Data ( tao, iso, img, way)
    3.  Extracted Raw but Convert to User Data ( tao, iso way)
    4.  Extracted Raw Data 2352 By Test block bin iso
Anyone with any knowledge please  explain which one to  use.    Thank you.

    hello
Thank you for your reply.  Perhaps I  forgot  some important  information.  My computer is infected with Malware  & Adware.  I have tried to run virus removal tools.
When I do I get error messages when I go to install them.  At present I do not have software  to reinstall yet.  I am  a novice and trying to teach myself as I go along.  Also trying to avoid calling  tech support.  If you
can further help this I would appreciate.   Thank you.

  • I can not transfer files and data from macbook pro to my external hard drive, i can not transfer files and data from macbook pro to my external hard drive , so what should i do ?

i have an external hard disk but whenever i tried to transfer any file or data from macbook to this ext.disk its failed before that i used to have another hard drive with same problem ,then i thought may  be this hard drive is not support mac then i bought a new one which supports mac but still i have same problem what should i do ?

    Ok.
Go into Disk Utility, and make sure you select your external hard drive.
There should be 4 tabs, one being erase. I have taken a screenshot to show you what it should be set to (obviously name it what you like), and set the format to Mac OSX Extended (Journaled) as per the example below & after double checking your in the right drive, you can hit erase. And you're done! *hopefully*

  • Moved My Hard Drive Now Can Not Find iTunes Library

This is my first post, so I am hoping that I can find an answer to my question.
I recently purchased via eBay a Airport Extreme as I wanted to have my hard drive away from my MacBook.  Perviously the Hard Drive was connected with a USB and on that Hard Drive was all my Itunes Music, and it worked 100%.  Now that I have the Apple Airport Extreme, which is up and working I can not longer assess my iTunes.
I can see it when I look at the finder, and I have changed it to look at it in the peferance menu on the iTunes, but I think I have not done everything.  I have read about all the things that you can do, but they are all taking about "moving" or "backing up" the iTunes library, I have it in the right spot I can not piont the iTunes to it.
Can you please give me any advice. Please find below a screen shot of my Hard Drive, maybe I am not putting the right file up, the one that I have been picking is the one highlighted, iTunes.
    Thanks in Advance.

  • Can I wipe my hard drive clean without the Snow Leopard CD?

I've searched and have seen some mixed reviews. This is my issue:
I have a Macbook Pro from 2007. If you need any other info, let me know. It had Tiger on it for the longest time, until I bought an iPod touch that needed snow leopard to run. So I upgraded it a few years ago...I bought the disc at the store and upgraded it. Now that I am out of college, I don't use my laptop a whole lot besides just the usual internet surfing and things. Well now I am getting ready to start a new job that I will be on it all the time and use Excel and other programs. Over the years, I have things on it that I really don't want/need anymore. I would like to wipe it clean of everything and start fresh, only problem is that I can't find the snow leopard cd, or any other cd's that came with the laptop. From what I am reading I seem to need the snow leopard disc to do this? Can I go out and buy a new disc? Do I need the disc to do this?
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

You said "Do I need any of the discs that came with the Macbook Pro?"
So I said thems referring to the disks inyour question.

  • External hard drive that had my itunes on it crashed; had to recover data on new external hard drive; not can't access iTunes from my iMac - how do I name it correctly in order to make iTunes work again

how do I set up a new external hard drive with my recovered iTunes (from a hard drive that crashed & had to be replaced) so that I can access iTunes on my iMac again?

  • Hard drive crashed, can't reinstall iTunes

Here's the situation. I had two hard drives in my computer (running Win XP, btw), the one on which I had iTunes installed, but not the one that had the operating system on it, crashed. All data was unrecoverable.
Once I removed that drive from the computer, my machine ran fine. But when I tried to run iTunes, of course, it wouldn't run. So I tried to download and install it on my one existing hard drive (plenty of room for it). But, when I tried to run the installer, I get an error windos that pops up telling me that "iTunesMiniPlayer.resources is not a valid short file name" and the installer then "encountered errors before iTunes could be configured". At which point no further information is forthcoming and the installer shuts down.
I tried to use add/remove programs to uninstall iTunes, but when I do so, I get the "iTunesMiniPlayer.resources is not a valid short file name" messag again, as well as a "Fatal error druing installation" message, and the uninstall stops.
I used regedit to eliminate every reference to iTunes I could find in my registry, and still get all the same results listed above.
At this point, I am utterly baffled. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

okay. let's try downloading and installing the Windows Installer CleanUp utility and using that to clear any leftover iTunes installation configuration information from the PC.

  • How do I wipe my hard drive clean on a Mac Air so I can sell it?

I have a Macbook Air I want to sell and need to take all my stuff off.  How do I do that?  It is already on my new computer and saved.

Throw away any files which may contain sensitive data, securely empty the Trash, connect its original thumbdrive, restart the computer with the Option key held down, click on it, use the Disk Utility to erase the partition with Mac OS X installed, install a fresh OS onto it, and include the thumbdrive with it.

  • I need to wipe the hard drive clean on MacBook Air, how do I do this?

I have a Macbook Air that I want to wipe clean.  All the discussions I read talk about rebooting with disk, but Air does not have one?

Reboot the system, hold command-R to boot into Recovery Partition.
Then you can use the recovery system to re-format the partition that hold the main OSX, and re-install OSX using the internet link.  That last part may take a bit of time.
See the two DiskUtility screens that will clear that partition.  The multi-pass erase adds time, but makes recovery of your data extremely difficult.  Note that until you hit the final "Yes, I want to erase it" button, all can be cancelled.

  • I downloaded CS6 (I had to wipe my hard drive) I got (1) of (2) and (2) of (2) downloaded - NOW WHAT?  No instructions on how to install?

Anyone who can help it would be appreciated
It is is like Adobe has abandoned what they sold me in 2012

if you downloaded an exe and a 7z file, put both in the same directory and click (or double click) the exe.
any other situation, what os, what files did you download (names and extensions)?
