If iOS ate your WiFi hotspot option...

Like it did with mine, it's buried deep in your menu.
Go to
Cellular > Celluar Data Network, then scroll down to the bottom. It should have a "personal hotspot" area to fill in your information.
I just plugged in "internet.(carrier name here)" and then went back, and it appeared in the menu. Turn it on, and it'll appear back in the main menu where it belongs.
Thanks for hiding my #1 use for my phone, Apple, and giving me a heart attack!

The only way it will work is connect your laptop to your iPhone 3G Data connection.
The iPhone won't serve as a routeur to the hotel WiFi connection. That's my main problem.
The tethering works only one way: the iPhone is the internet source, and then you connect the laptops/iPad to it.
Not the other way around. You can't connect the iPhone to your laptop and use the laptop WiFi to surf the web from the iPhone.

  • Wifi - Hotspot option Gone!

    Hi,
I recently faced a problem in my BB Curve 9320, wherein there was no sound playin in the fone for anything. Including media player, incoming calls, alarms etc. I got a software update from one of the registered vendors. However, after that update the 'wifi-hotspot' option in my phone has disappeared.
Can anyone please tell me how to get back that. I tried software update again but I already have the latest OS.
    Please help!!

    Hello shailendrasadh,
    Welcome to the forums.
When you installed the software update did you get the software from the original service provider for this device?

  • HT4972 my ipad3 doesn't have the wifi hotspot option in the list in settings

    I have taken delivery of an iPad3 64G 4G.
In the list on the left in settings - there is no item for setting the iPad as a WiFi hotspot.
I went to a phone shop. They had a new iPad3 there with the same firmware settings etc. The option was in the list - I think the 3rd or 4th from the top.
Why hasn't my machine got this option? Supposed to be on ALL 3G and 4G machines as far as I know?
    Thanks.

It's impossible for anyone here to be able to tell your carrier what they need to do to enable their own features. Call your carrier again and keep going up the ladder of support until you find someone who knows what "personal hotspot" or "tethering" means and who understand their own systems.
By the way, you replied to a thread that's been inactive for almost nine months now. That's usually not a good strategy for getting a quick reply. It's most often going to be more effective to start a new thread rather than replying to one that's quite old and inactive.
    Regards.

  • Where is the Personal WiFi Hotspot option in iPad Air 2?

    Hello Bro,
I recently bought a iPad Air 2. I wanna use Personal WiFi Hotspot, but I am finding the operation. Will anybody help me in these issues,
    Thanking you in advance.

Well you have Personal Hotspot using cellular but not using iPad Wi-Fi.
Also only if you have a Personal Hotspot supported carrier.
Check if your carrier is on the list:
iPhone: Wireless carrier support and features - Apple Support
If your carrier is not on the list then you do not have Personal Hotspot.

  • IPad 3 with iOS 6 won't connect to Wifi Hotspot

I have a new iPad running iOS 6.01.  It connects to wifi networks perfectly.  I also own a Blackberry 9900 that is capable of running a wifi hotspot.  The iOS6 iPad will not connect to my hotspot.
It is NOT the hotspot that is the problem. PCs connect to it as does my Android tablet.  In fact I tried an iPad 2 with iOS v5.x and it connected instantly as well.
This is an iOS 6 problem I am positive.  Any ideas anyone?  Reseting network connections does not work.
    Thanks,
    Shawn

I tried the method above several times however I had to refine it using the following method:
Once I received the message on the iPad settings window "unable to connect to network" I unticked the hotspot  option on the blackberry. The mobile network and Wi-Fi boxes on your blackberry should both remain ticked, retick the hotspot box on your blackberry and only when the word "connecting" appears next to the box select the join button on the network settings on your iPad or choose your hotspot in the network list.
You should now be able to switch between your Wi-Fi networks and your hotspot, if this does not automatically happen then Repeat of the above process waiting for the word "connecting" before joining the hotspot network.
Now you're not forced to buy an iPhone!!!

  • Hi... I've had my IPhone 4S since January 13, and it doesn't have the option to use it as a wifi hotspot? When all my friends iphones do. Is there a way to install in onto my phone? Or what do I need to do to get it??

Whether you can use your phone in this way is entirely the responsibility of your phone company/carrier.  You need to contact them to see if you can add tethering to your phone plan.  Be warned though that it could get rather expensive, so if you don't really need it, then do without, but in any instance, you need to contact your phone carrier.

  • Hotspot option disappeared in iOS 8

I have an iPad mini (1 gen). Recently I have noticed that hotspot option is missing. I tried to find a solution on the Internet, but everywhere it is said that I should change APN for personal hotspot. Here is a problem - I don't even have such a field! I have only regular apn settings field. Don't know what to do. On iOS 7 it was working.

JRHarvey, have you checked the basics:
    Phone calls
With Continuity, you can make and receive cellular phone calls from your iPad, iPod touch, or Mac when your iPhone is on the same Wi-Fi network.
To make and receive phone calls, here's what you need:
Sign in to the same iCloud account on all your devices, including your Mac.
Your iPhone and your iPad or iPod touch need to use iOS 8 or later. Your Mac needs to use OS X Yosemite.
All devices must be on the same Wi-Fi network.
All devices must be signed in to FaceTime using the same iCloud account. This means any device that shares your Apple ID will get your phone calls. Look below for instructions on how to turn off iPhone cellular calls.
Wi-Fi Calling needs to be off. Go to Settings > Phone. If you see Wi-Fi Calling, turn it off.
