If music is in iCloud do you need the original music to restore a device
If all my music is in iCloud can I still use it if I don't have any of that music on my hard drive anymore?
Yes, you could lisening to it via iTunes without having the files on your Mac and also for restoring a device, but only if bought the music via iTunes and if you have an iTunes Match account (for tracks you didn't buy via iTunes).

Just upgraded but I have not used the original twitter application in a while, I found a better one (Tweetlist). Do I need to have the original app on the phone in order to get the Twitter notifications in Notifications Center or will the notifications come through anyway as I have already integrated my account into the phone settings itself?
Yes, of course you need rights, for any content you wish to use - photos, artwork, music, text, everything - unless you created said content yourself. If you can't afford the rights to the photos you want to use, don't use them. Find photos, as Dave suggested, in the public domain or with a Creative Commons license that allows your use , or different photos with a lower licensing fee, or take your own photos. Note that if you take photos of people, you'll need model release forms from every person whose photo you wish to use.

FCS 2 upgrade- do you need the original prog to be installed?
I'm just about to take delivery of a brand spanking new Mac Pro, 3.2GHz etc (and very excited I am).
Planning to install FCS2 as an upgrade from my existing copy of FCP3. Will the FCS2 upgrade package require that FCP3 is installed on the machine already, or does the upgrade package simply require the licence number from the version that I'm upgrading from? You don't need the older version installed ... just enter the serial number from the older version when prompted.
To expound on what Dvaid Lsater said, if you upgraded from FCP 3, it would not be legal to sell that version after upgrading from it.

Do you need the original chord to sync your ipod
i can't seem to sync my ipod to my itunes
The iPod, iPhone and iPad all use the same chord, for the older models. So a chord for any of those will work. If no chord works are you able to charge your iPod?

I am trying to clear space on our iPad. If I delete photos and videos on the iPad, will they remain saved on our iCloud account? Need the space, don't want to lose the photos!
They will be backed up only until you backup again. iCloud is not a storage drive in the sky, it is a backup service only. If you delete the photos and videos from the camera roll, and then you backup the iPad with iCloud, you will overwrite that backup and the photos will be gone.
Import the photos to your computer if they are that important to you. iCloud is for backup only, not a storage place that you can download your photos from again once you overwrite that backup.

I have synced an iPhone 4S with iCloud - I now have a 5C to replace it. What happens to my data when I retire the 4S - does it need the original device to save my data?
Welcome to the Apple community.
Once you have restored your new phone from the backup of your old phone and ensured that everything is working correctly, you should first turn off "find my phone" on the old phone and then erase it, before you get rid of it. -
Those who took a while to active then did activate, did you need the e-mail
Did you need the e-mail and have to click a link or something, or did your phone just start working? I am sitting on the computer waiting on an e-mail. Is this necessary, or will the phone just start working?
If you answer please be detailed....thanks!The email I received was only to tell me that the activation (from T-Mobile) was in progress. They will send me another email in addition to an SMS to confirm when the process is complete.
Aside from all of that, I was able to synch my phone with all my contacts, music, etc., access my wifi, and try out the web and a few things. But I was not yet able to make/receive a call (or maybe I just didn't know what the heck I was doing). -
HT1657 Do you need the internet in order to watch a rented movie?
I understand you need the internet to download the movie but then afterwards does it stream the movie or can you watch it at any time without having internet connection?
No, you do not, not as long as the movie has downloaded completely.

My iPhone has just been replaced and I am trying to restore from iCloud but its saying no backups are compatible with the version of IOS 6.0.1. My back iOS are IOS 6.1. Can you update the phone first then restore?
Welcome to the Apple Community.
Yes, update first, Settings > General > Software Update.
Then navigate to Settings > General > Reset > Erase all contents and settings on the device you want to restore.
When this completes and the Set-Up Assistant starts, choose "Restore from iCloud Backup" and enter your iCloud account and password. You will see the three most recent backups for each of the devices on which you enabled Backup. Choose which backup to restore from. -

Do you need the SIM card when changing to another iphone
Do you need the SIM card when changing to another iphone
You posted in the iPod Shuffle forum; it might be best to post in the iPad forum, as I was a bit confused at first. Anyway,
It doesn't need a SIM to download apps if you have Wi-Fi. Can you describe this box a little more, or better yet, screenshot it?
Taking a Screenshot:
Quickly press then release the home and power buttons at the same time.
Get the photo on your computer and upload it here.
If you don't want to do this, can you describe it a little more? When you say "black box," I'm guessing it's an outlined box that appears around any item that you tap on. Is this correct? If so, it sounds like VoiceOver was enabled. See:
Turning VoiceOver On or Off

Do You NEED The iPod Start-Up CD?
If you get a brand new iPod, do you NEED the iPod Start-Up CD?
No you don't need the cd. In fact the new iPods on sale don't even have it included nowadays.
Everything your prospective buyer needs is here.

The iPod updater is included in iTunes 7. -
"You need the Rosetta software to run -bash" ????
I've finally upgraded my old PB to the latest MBP. I have used the Terminal to run Ruby, RVM and Rails, etc.
I've used the Migration assistance when starting this new machine.
But Terminal kicks me out with this: "You need the Rosetta software to run -bash" I don't want to run Rosetta and I would think bash isn't PowerPC software.
I've googled this but don't see this mentioned anywhere. With Terminal out of commission, I'm unsure what file to open that will give me a clue as to my setup. thanx, sam/bin/bash on a default MacBook Pro Mac OS X installation is:
file /bin/bash
/bin/bash: Mach-O fat file with 2 architectures
meaning it has both intel and PowerPC code.
So I would wonder if you are invoking /bin/bash, or if you have somehow pulled your PowerPC bash copy over during the migration of your stuff from your PowerBook.
My Mac OS X 10.6.6 /bin/bash chksum is
cksum /bin/bash
3855549735 1346544 /bin/bash
You might also want to check your Terminal preferences, as there are ways to override the default shell invocation that might have been migrated over from your PowerBook.
You might also look at what your default shell is set to (should be /bin/bash)
dscl .
cd Users
read yourunix_namehere
quit
Or as one line
dscl . -read $HOME shell

I have two questions...
1) If I do a clean install on my MacBook Pro will I be able to re-install apps (FCP, Aperture, MS Office etc.) from a Time Machine backup, or will I need the original install DVDs with authorization codes? (because I don't have them)
2) Has anyone ever seen anything like this before on their computers?
The Apple Genius' were stumped by my laptop issues and said they'd never seen anything like it before and recommended I did a clean install. Below you can see my trash bin, and if you look at the "Empty" button it reads "N201" and then there's the "N39" to the left of it. You can also see these numbers over by the folder area--"SD5, SD6, SD7." But that's not all...
When I right click on items I see the numbers again. Instead of "Open with" I get "N152" and there's an "N35" and "LB1" towards the bottom.
I have no idea what's going on so I'm just going to do a clean install on my machine but I don't want to lose my apps. I don't have the original install DVDs for them anymore. If you have any suggestions please let me know. Thanks! You don't lose them. You can always redownload them from the app store after you log back in with your Apple ID.
"Buy, download, and even redownload.
You can install apps on every Mac you use and even download them again. This is especially convenient when you buy a new Mac and want to load it with apps you already own." -
