If you'd actually bothered to look up the spec of this mixer, you'd find that it runs off the main supply...

  • Sony Tape Deck-Behringer Mixer  UB 802 interface

I'm having a problem obtaining the audio in Garage Band from the Sony Tape deck I have connected to the Behringer UB 802 mixer connected to my Mac.
On the mixer I have a jack output from the main output to the Audio line-in of the Mac.
Whats odd is that with my microphone connected to the mixer, I have no problem obtaining audio in Garage Band . The only problem I have is with the Sony Tape deck (TC-D5) trying to obtain audio. I'm using an analogue tape deck.
Thanks in advance to anyone who has any helpful insight in obtaining an audio feed in Garage Band from a tape deck via
    The Behringer UB802 mixer.

I have my mic/headphone combo plugged into the mic XLR connection of the Behringer mixer. I don't believe the Mac Pro has an internal microphone.
Thanks for any help on getting this going. When connected to the line input of my Sony PC I have no problem obtaining the audio feed from the tape deck that is connected to the mixer via the two RCA tape-in plugs.

  • Help needed with getting Audio signal through to Mac Book Pro (using Logic 9 & Behringer Xenyx 1204USB mixer)

Ok so I am sure I have everything set up correctly,
Logic has recognised and is using the mixer, I have sound coming through the headphones when I put in a drum sample onto audio track, no signal going in from audio using the first channel. Audio channel is set up with correct inputs & outputs. USB setting used on mixer......phantom tried on and off with the condenser mic I am using.....still no luck not even changing from mi to guitar. No signal when recording audio...... AAAHHH HELP! Racking my brains!
    Thank you in advance

Kudos to figuring it out yourself.
Yes, Logic is geared to the professional user, you will need to set up the program to your particular way of working, Logic was well developed for professional use long before Apple purchased it, it's not an Apple program per se. It's complex and offers a myriad number of choices so that it can be configured to many styles of working, there's often 3 or 4 ways to perform the same function.
Logic insists the user educate themselves... which is a good thing.

  • CS5.5 with Behringer mixer/ASIO and latency...

I have AA 5.5 and a Behringer usb mixer. I recently installed the Behringer "highspeed ASIO sudio mixer" software. which now allows me to select my  "system performance" with corresponding latency (normal, rapid, highspeed, etc). But I'm finding that my latency can only go as low as 16ms... Thing is, my cpu is a Intel i7 3.4 GHz with 12 GB of  RAM. Am I crazy to think that I should be able to get down to at least "rapid (7)? But preferably "highspeed (5).

    Bob thanks for the insight!
Alas, you've touched on some topics I don't know much about ("round trip" and "effects send" for monitoring... so I guess I have some research to do . I know my mixer is of the Lower-End types in terms of offering many options, but I've had such great luck in the past from other boards (like my old Alesis) that I thought for certain this could handle the workload.
Do you mean that I should just use the mixer (Behringer xenyx 802USB) for monitoring instead of using the software and cpu to monitor?
    Thanks again and Happy Holidays.

  • Using a Behringer Mixer w/ Logic

Ok, here's the deal. The only experience I've had with digital audio is Garageband, which I've used for over a year, and have had great results with, but I decided I wanted to try out something better, so I went for Logic Express, naturally. I have a Behringer Eurorack UB1202 Audio Mixer. I know it is in working condition because when I used it in Garageband, it worked like a charm. No setting up, nothing. Just plug it in and I'm done.
However, when I have the exact same setup in Logic, the program won't even acknowledge the fact that any sound is being produced at all. I have the mixer hooked up via a 1/4 cable connected to a Monster cable adaptor, which is then plugged into my Powerbook's audio-in port. If anyone can help me get this mixer set up without using too much jargon I'm unfamiliar with, that would be great.

Ok, as it says that you need to do what I said first.
Lets do this from the start, open logic if you haven't modified the autoload song lets just use that.
Find yourself an "Audio" track, it'll say Audio 1(or 2 etc) on it. Click on it.
In the bottom left of the screen you'll see a fader for this channel with a couple of boxes above the fader. These tell you where the signal is being "routed" to and from. The top one is the input, where the sound is coming from, an the one below is the output telling you where it's being played out of.
So set the input on the channel to Input 1. (if you can't see these boxes and the fader or "The Channel Strip" press 2 and you'll see the entire mixer) Then on that channel press the "rec" button right at the bottom of the channel strip.
This now means that channel and that channel only are ready to record with. If you are still not getting a level on the meter in logic, or sound coming through you probably need to look at the setup.
Go to the logic preference for Audio. Click on "Drivers" and make sure it's all set to your internal sound module, and everything seems to be ON, if you want to be able to hear the sound of your bass through the computer itself make sure the "Software Monitoring" check box is lit.
Logic takes a little bit more setting up to get it to do what you want but thats because it's capable of so much, you have to tell it what one of it's many talents to use. Where as garageband is far simpler.
If this doesn't help then you must be way off. Try taking a look at the thread i wrote called "Basic Tips for New Users" it details everything I just said above and more.

  • Macbook Pro not recognizing behringer mixer

I don't know if it's because I have OSX Lion or what, but the macbook won't recognize the USB input from the mixer, nor will it run the CD included. The CD will spin some, and then just eject itself. The Mixer is supposed to work with mac! Or at least I thought it was. Could it be something wrong with my macbook?
    Thanks!

And while you're rounding up the driver, fond out whether it has been updated by the manufacturer for compatibility with Lion.

  • Just tripped over my power supply and...

Thank you all at Apple design! My MagSafe pulled straight out and the Macbook didn't even move. These are the design things that really make it for me. The cosmetic looks of the MB are important, but for me it's all about what's inside. And to protect that we have MagSafe and self-parking heads.
I think I am properly in love.
My PB got such a beating from me tripping over the powerchord and the HD was not in good nick after it being thrown around a bit, but now...
Disclaimer: I might well have probs with my MB soon. For now I love it!!!!!

My wife did that too about half an hour after we got our MacBook home, Freddie.
It brought back memories for me of getting the powercord of my PB12 caught up in a chair just after I'd bought it, rolling back and watching in horror as it plummeted to the floor. Fortunately it survived with only a tiny little dent, but it could have been very nasty, especially as it was open at the time. On another occasion I actually broke the corner off a PB190 motherboard by doing the same thing.
With the MacBook there was a moment of stunned silence all round followed by instant relief when we realised the Magsafe had done its job.
Yep, its a nice piece of design.
    Cheers
    Rod

  • Tripped on my power cord....

I have tripped on my cord once or twice now. Between that and my kids, i can't tell if my plug is getting loose or not. How much "wiggle" do you have in your plug when it's plugged in (the computer end)?

I have a little play. It seems as the computer ages it increases in play, but as soon as you need to turn the cord till the light comes on means its on the way out and the ring on the power cord is loosing connection. at least thats what happened to me and I had to get a new power block.

  • Drive encrypted using Bitlocker...encrypting backup on Server 2008

I've seen this topic discussed a few times but with very little real explanation on how to do this.
I have several servers for several customers that now must be encrypted.  I've run a few tests with our own internal servers and one user server and the drive encryption goes off without a hitch.
Encrypting their backups however is still an issue.  Usually they are setup with 2 drives, one on site, one off.  Obviously the one on site is a theft issue so it defeats the purpose of encrypting the server if there is an un-encrypted backup.
Bit Locker to Go is an R2 feature, isn't it?  Plus when you setup a drive for Windows backup, it formats the drive so is Bitlocker even usable?
The whole idea of encrypting their drives concerns me because of recovering the data/server after a crash.  We use encrypted online back up but the need to do a bare metal restore is the part that concerns me.  I even thought of adding a third drive to the mix just to be overly redundant(paranoid).
What is the best way to handle this?  How does it work in the event of a server crash, how do you do a bare metal restore with a bit locker drive?
    Thanks

You can bitlock a portable drive for Server 2012 R2 backup as follows:
Using Essentials, the first time you use the drive
    1. Start the dashboard and go to the Storage Tab and select
    Disks
    2. Click on the new drive and add it to the backup. Give it a unique label. Backup will format it and remove the drive letter.
    3. Go to the start screen and start Administrative tools | Computer management
    4. Find Disk Management and scroll down to find your backup disk.
    5. Right click on the disk block and choose Change Drive Letter and Paths.
    Add a drive letter.
    6. Open This PC and right click on your drive. Choose
    Turn on Bitlocker.
    7. Give the disk a password and save or print the key. Choose to encrypt used space only.
    8. When Bitlock finishs encrypting the drive, click on the Manage Bitlocker link at the bottom of the progress screen. Find your disk and click the dropdown arrow. Click on
Turn on Auto-unlock. (Auto-unlock greatly simplifies swapping disks. However, my experience has been it will not reliably unlock the disk after a restart or power failure. You may have to log in for the disk to be reconnected.)
    9. You can use Disk Manager  as you did before to
Remove the drive letter. It can be handy for verifying the disk's status or distinguishing multiple disks, but you don't really need it.
    10. Close everything up. You are good to go. After this, the disk can be replaced using the normal procedures for swapping USB drives.

  • Converting a logic audio gold file to a Logic studio file

I have a very small (299kb) LAG file that I created in 2000. I can't open it in Logic Studio and don't have any earlier Logic software. Can anyone give me a hand and convert it to a Logic studio file. It's small enough to email back and forth. I just need the MIDI data and don't want to recreate the whole song.
    Thanks in Advance!!!

    Bonjour Seeren,
    Thanks for joining the conversation.
I knew about your workaround, unfortunately it's not a good solution, as what I want is jus that LX behaves as expected.
But... thanks anyway because I could solve my problem !!!
In fact, first I've now realized two main things :
         1) in the LP9 project, if I display both the track name and the channel strip name in the arrange window, I can see that the channel strip name is what I will have in the Mixer once in LX, and the track name is what I will have in Track window of LX. So I could be sure that the problem came from "before" opening in LX.
         2) in L9 and also in LX, when you start from a project from scratch and rename a track, Logic assign the new name to the CHANNEL NAME, not to the TRACK NAME, and I was not aware of that at all !
So I found a way to make things work :
         - in the arrange window in L9, I've displayed both the Channel Name and the Track Name. For each track, I've cut the Track name and pasted it into the Channel name. That was pretty fast as they were just next to each other.
         - I saved and opened in LX.
Hallelujah ! it works, and the sync remains (if I decide to change the track name, the nam in the mixer follows !)
So, basically, I have no idea why in my L9 projects, I ended up having the name being changed sometimes in the tracks names and sometimes in the channel channel name, but now I could sort it out for LX.
Additonnaly, I've realized that if I create a L9 project from scratch, then import one of my L9 song file in it (all tracks, contents, E/S, ... everything), and then do that renaming just as mentioned above, Logic would re-assign all audio channel from Nr1.
So, thank you very much, and thanks to The Art of Sound too !
I hope this topic will help some other people !!
    Goooood evening !

  • Wake on lan from power OFF

It appears that Mac's don't provide wake on lan from complete power off. I have no problem powering up my Mac from sleep, but it won't turn on from power off (like every PC I've tried). This is not difficult to do, as every $200 PC on the market w/ WOL does it.
I have my Mac on a large shared UPS with serveral other computers and network gear, etc.
There is a linux server which actually communicates with the UPS. During a power failure, that linux box will connect to ever other machine on the network sharing this UPS and tell them to SHUT OFF, not sleep, because hard power failure is emminent. When all remote machines are off, the linux machine shuts off, and the UPS powers off it's outlets.
On power recovery, the UPS waits until it's batteries are sufficiently recharged, and turns back on, powering up it's protected outlets. All the machines see power come back on, and are set to reboot.
Here is the problem. If the power comes back on AFTER the remote machines are shut down, but before the linux box turns off, the linux box sees power recovery, and the UPS never shuts off it's protected outlets. Now all the remote machines are off, and won't ever see their power cut off, and then recover, so they don't turn back on.
The PCs are easy... hit them with a wake-on-lan packet and they reboot from complete power off... but not the trusty Mac because Apple didn't implement that part of the wake-on-lan standard!
So... I'm faced with abandoning wake on lan for all the machines and building an interface with a big relay to KILL power to all remote machines to power them back on. Isn't this more than just a little silly? Apple... why not just make your machine comply with the standard so that it plays nicely in a mixed environment!
Providing wake on lan from sleep, and power on with power recovery, but no wake on lan from OFF is just ridiculous.
    I welcome any ideas...
    PowerMac G5 Dual 2.0   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Malcolm,
If I make it sleep, then I'm forcing it to crash when the power turns off. The idea here is for a graceful shutdown before emminent power failure when the UPS battery runs out.
The only reason it's getting shut down is that the main power has failed and the UPS battery is running low.
I agree that with no power they can't interpret packets and react... but that's why proper wake-on-lan implementations keep the NIC powered up to watch for WOL packets.
    Thanks,
    -Russ

  • Why choose an audio interface over a mixer?

I know there are tons of question out there who are quite similar to mine, but yet none of 'em seem to be able to solve my question.
The main question I'm asking is: what's the difference between a mixer (either w/ or w/o built in audio interface) and an external audio interface?
But the answers to this exact question weren't sufficient because I ran into a practical problem, wich is as follows:
A friend of mine uses his Behringer XenyX 802 mixer as a way to input the signals his mic's send into GarageBand/Logic (kind of DAW is irrelevant). Now i've been wanting to set up my own little home studio myself and basically every tutorial/video out there says: "in order to record multiple instruments into your Mac, you need an audio interface." Now I don't get exactly why, because i've seen someone do it with a mixer. I assume that the mixer in question has a built in audio interface (since it has, amongst other features, phantom power), so it's not neccesary to have an audio interface, or is it?
Then I started searching the web for different audio-interfaces because I thought: "well they must know what they're talking about. So I guess I have to start looking for an interface." I found that a lot of interfaces <€100 have only 2 inputs, mostly an XLR input and a Jack/instrument input. One of the most popular beign the Avid Fast Track MK II USB interface. I happen to know that the Xenyx 802 has 2 XLR inputs AND 2 jack inputs and I can get my hands on one (2nd handed version) for about half the price of the Fast Track. I thought to myself: "why? Why do all those 'experts' who explain it in video's tell me to specifically get an interface?" this is because I found that the more input channels you want from an interface, the higher the price.
Can anyone help me explain why the Fast Trak MK II is twice as expensive as the Xenyx 802 while it offers half the amount of inputs?
    Thanks

    Cyclone13 wrote:
Thank you for your response, it helped quite a lot. Just to make sure if I understand correctly:
You can only record 2 instruments simultaneously at max using a mixer (on their own track, because I have seen it done before), but you would be able to record, say, 6 mic's at the same time if you had the proper interface (an interface with at least 6 inputs and outputs that is). Now the M-Audio has only two inputs I believe, and therefor I take it has a stereo output as well, so the maximum simultaneous recording for the fast track is 2, just as that of the Behringer?
Regarding the Mixer... The Behringer you posted is just a standard Mixer, it doesn't have USB output, in which case you have to use the Mac's audio system (the Line-Input) and run a cable from the Mixer's main or monitor outs into the Mac's Line input. Computers use inexpensive audio chips that do not provide the greatest sound.
I thought you were talking about this Behringer:
    http://www.amazon.com/Behringer-Xenyx-Q802USB-Audio-Mixer/dp/B008O517IC
It is a mixer and an audio interface rolled intro one.
The M-Audio is a true separate Audio Interface that provides it's own Inputs and Outputs, (Like the USB Behringer).
Regardless, all three, the Behringer stand alone mixer that uses the mac's audio, The Behringer with the built-in stereo USB audio interface and the M-Audio with USB interface are all stereo units. The USB audio interface will only show two inputs and a stereo out. The most you can record separately on either is 2 instruments.
    Here is one step up:
    http://www.motu.com/products/motuaudio/audio-express
The MOTU unit has 4 analog inputs as well as a stereo digital input.
The next step is an interface like this with 8 Mic inputs. It would show up in Logic as 4 stereo pairs or 8 individual inputs. You could use 4 mics on a set of drums, 1 for guitar, bass direct, stereo input for keys and record everyone playing at the same time on 8 separate audio tracks giving you full control (in Logic) of the final mix.        http://www.motu.com/products/motuaudio/8pre

  • Mixer suggestions

I was looking at the Behringer Podcast Studio http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/481377-REG/BehringerPODCASTUDIO_FIREWIRE_PODCASTUDIO_FIREWIREBundle.html#features
and was wondering if this would work for a first-time podcast? Is it better to pick the items up piecemeal? I was thinking of the Behringer 1202 (Xenyx or UB) as it has 2 more (total of 4) XLR inputs and it's going for about $75. However, the Behringer Firewire audio interface alone (the one included with the studio package) is going for $77. It seems that the combo would be more economical, but I don't want to sacrfice quality too much.
Is a Griffin iMic USB audio interface (or a Behringer UCA202 - Low Latency 2 Input / 2 Output USB/Audio Interface with Digital Output) just as good at around $30?
I already have a several mics, some XLR, some 1/4" jacks -- condenser & dynamic.
Eventually, I'd like to record a podcast with around 3-5 people all doing a round-table type discussion.
    I'll be using Garageband 09
    Thanks for any input, Deborah
PS like the Behringer mixer because of the CD/tape input, also, so that I can digitize old cassette tapes.

if cost is the primary concern then the bundle looks pretty good, certainly the mic is very good.
behringer is at the low end of the audio equipment spectrum, but it should be more than good enough, and much better than the iMic (besides having far less control, the old iMic FAQ used to be pretty humourous, but honest, with things like Q: What kinds of A/D converts are used? A: the iMic is $35. Q: What's the signal to noise ratio? A: It's a $35 A/D converter, etc. it's okay, but it's THE most inexpensive, and you do get what you pay for)
