If my iPad doesn't charge when connected to my computer, could that affect my file sharing?

I am trying to share a file via iTunes on my computer to an App on my iPad and keep getting an error. The file is working from other computers. The only thing I noticed is my iPad is not charging when plugged into the computer. Since this is a USB power issue, could that have something to do with why my file won'tsync properly to my iPad?
Thanks.

When you say that your iPad is not charging, are you seeing "Not Charging" in either the status bar (unlocked) or in the middle of the screen (locked)?
If so, this is indicative of the fact that your computer's USB ports do not emit enough wattage to charge the device while it is in use. (i.e. out of sleep, with screen on)
Put the iPad to sleep (with the Sleep/Wake button) and let it be, and over time without any use, it should charge.
However, as Philly Phan said, provided that the device's battery still contained an adequate charge, it should not affect the file sync.

  • Plz help! my ipod no longer gets charged when connected to my computer

as the topic suggests, my ipod with video(5.5G) always shows that its fully charged when connected to my computer. but it wasn't like this a period of time ago, i wonder why. plz help me. i now dare not to transport more than 1g files to my ipod in case it would run out of battery and sth worse may follow...
since my computer is old with a celeronA 533(overclocked to 760, not a big difference), i closed lots of the system services which i think are useless, maybe that's the problem? but which service should i start? ipodservice.exe is always running when i connect my ipod with my pc
btw, i must say sorry with my poor english, hope you understand what i mean

If you mean that when plugged in it shows the iPod being fully charged but when you disconnect the battery is actually dead, then you probably have a defective battery.

  • My iphone 4 is not being detected by any of my computers and not charging when connected to any computer.  It will, however, charge to the car or wall.  The only change that I can think of is that I downloaded a podcast from itunes directly from my phone.

My iphone 4 is not being detected by any of my computers and not charging when connected to any computer.  It will, however, charge to the car or wall.  The only change that I can think of is that I downloaded a podcast from itunes directly from my phone.  I've since deleted this podcast with no luck.  I've restarted both the phone and the computer, still no luck.  One computer is running Vista and the other Windows 7, both have the latest Itunes Update.  Anyone have a fix for this?

  • New iPad Won't Charge when connected to Mac laptop

Heading pretty much says it all. I get a window that says something like "this acessory won't charge" or something like that on the computer screen. I can download music just fine, but the computer won't charge the unit.
    Anybody else have that problem?
    Thanks,
    Tom

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes.

  • My BlackBerry PlayBook won't charge when connected to the computer via the micro-USB to USB cable

Can anybody help me? I don't know why but lately, when I try to plug my BlackBerry PlayBook into my Windows 7 laptop using the micro-USB to USB cable, it connects to my computer without any problems but it won't charge. Instead, I get a notification in the top left corner saying "Unable to charge battery with connected sorce". I have four USB ports and I'm positive that they work just fine because I plugged in some of the USBs I own into each of those four ports and they recognized the USBs without any issues. Does anybody know how I can resolve this issue? Thanks.

The notification is by design and was added to clarify that USB charging is not to be relied upon as a main method of charging. Instead RIM's good intention has caused confusion.
USB (by design) can not provide the amount of power the device needs while it's being used. Technically, it is still trickle charging but the screen has to be off (and I'd turn off Wi-Fi too) since they are high power draining items.  I have verified that the PlayBook does indeed still charge but it takes much, much longer than plugging it into a wall charger or rapid charger. In a crunch it will work but the computer has to be on the entire time. A full charge would take many hours.

  • How come the iPod Touch doesn't charge when connected to an USB extension?

I have it plug it directly into the iMac, I can't plug it into an extension cable connected to the iMac. My older iPod Touch charged just fine using the USB extender, but my new one refuses to charge unless it's directly connected to the iMac. Why would Apple change how the iPod charges? Those extension cables are useful when you need to switch out USB devices, since the ports are all in the back of the unit.

I noticed the same thing happened with my iPod touch. It wouldn't charge on my iMac but when I connected it to my Macbook it started up right away. The difference being, I think, is not the computers but the usb hubs. The one on my Macbook has its own power supply where as the one on my iMac doesn't. Try that. Maybe the usb hub just needs to have its own power supply in order for the iPod touch to charge. So if that's the case then the usb extension cable probably won't work at all.

  • Though my itouch 5th Gen. will charge when connected to my computer, it doesn't show up as connected in itunes or on my computer under devices at all.  Please help!

As stated in the question, I have no idea whether it's a problem with my USB cord, my computer, or itouch.  If it helps any, there is a small scrape on the metal part of my USB on the itouch side, but it's a pretty insignificant mark.

    Try:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
I would also try on another computer to help determine if you have an iPod/cable or computer problem.
There can be a cable problem since different conductors are used for charging and syncing.

  • TS1717 Why will my I'pod not take a charge when connected to the computer?

    Questions?
-- Your connecting to the same computer?
-- Your using the same usb port?
-- Your ipad's are in the same state?
I've heard that computer usb ports are somewhat marginal in recharging the ipad.   Best to use a power outlet.

  • My iPhone 4s will not charge using wall charger unit. It will only charge when connect to my computer UBS., My iPhone 4s will not charge using wall charger unit. It will only charge when connect to my computer UBS.

For about a month, I have to charge my iPhone 4S using my laptop UBS connection. It will not charge from the wall unit. I always update the OS. Is there any settings that I might have changed by mistake?

I have the same issue with my partners 4S.  I have a iphone 4 and my phone works on mains powers - we have 3 different charges we have all tried on hers and do not work but work on mine.  We have tried every outlet in the house and same issue, works on mine doesnt work on her 4S.
The issue only started about a month ago.  It started with only charging from mains if turned off - then the phone would refuse to stay turned off - now it wont charge at all from mains but works fine from a PC.
Its a very odd one as if it was something wrong with the docking port it surely shouldnt work through PC then?

  • My ipad says it isn't charging while connected to my computer. What's wrong?

For some reason my ipad doesn't charge while connected to any of my computers. It isn't the cord because it charges through the wall by itself as well as on my keyboard dock. Any ideas?

  • Annoying incessent beeps in videos / won't charge when connected to CPU

First of all my battery couldnt hold a charge within 2 months of buying my 5G Ipod, so I sent it in and got a new one. The new one has a couple of problems, one of which the old one had as well.
The one thing both iPods have not been able to do is charge when connected to the computer. They can connect fine, but if my battery is dead or low, it won't connect and I have to recharge it on my charger before connecting it to the comp. My old 4thG (Which died right after warantee expired) was able to charge on my comp.
However my major issue is that my video's have loud and annoying beeping sounds throughout when I play them. I've done the 5 R's(many times), it does it for downloaded files as well as some official apple ones that someone suggested. It does not beep when TV-Out is selected but does start beeping as soon as I try to view it from the player. It does it to ALL my videos, ones that worked fine for my previous 5G. Audio files work fine.
iPods have given me nothing but trouble as this is my 3rd one.

The USB mouse and printer do not draw any current from the USB port, so there's no info there. As you've stated, since your USB HDD uses an external power, that's not helpful either. I'm out of suggestions except you can see if someone else has a USB-iPod connector to try on your MacBook. BTW, if your IPT has a volume control on the left side, it's a G2.
