The battery will run out sooner or later anyway, even if you could prevent shutdown.
iOS 7 includes a feature that prevents anyone wiping and then re-setting up the phone without your AppleID and password.

Find my iPhone is the only way to track it. If you had it turned on, and it was running iOS 7 or 8, then take comfort in knowing that it will be useless to the thief, even if they restored iOS. They will be unable to activate it without your Apple ID and password.

For iTunes purchased music you might be able to re-download it via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage on your computer's iTunes. For music from other sources (e.g. copied from CDs) then unless you had subscribed to iTunes Match and uploaded it to it from your computer then no, it won't be stored anywhere

So my Iphone was stolen and it was updated to the newest IOS and I attempted to back up the info to an IPAD, but when I attemped it said the IPAD was to old, since its version 5.1.1. Thanks. Yes. But somehow it's already turned off by the thief. I am just hoping he goes to an area with free wifi to transmit the lost phone mode. I'm giving it a few weeks and i hope that the new iOS 7 function will work. That they won't be able to reset my phone without my apple id & password. I just wish I downloaded the app iHound before.
Oh and I called up our national telecommunications commission and they'll be able to disable my phone's function through my IMEI. -

Not around anymore? Maybe the carrier you used the phone with can facilitate the information. Also, when under contract, the IMEI is listed in the paperwork. Apple, alas, is quite unhelpful with that information. -

If your music and books all came from iTunes you can download it again without charge. If you had maintained an iCloud backup of your phone you can restore that backup and get all of your content back.
