If thinking of buying a Zen V Plus..

Hi everyone,
I have been in contact with Creative's customer services with regards to fixing my faulty Zen Micro - as it turns out it'll cost ?70+ as it's out of warranty so rather than pay that I thought I'd be money better spent buying a new player.....
Anyway to point I actually wanted to make. I asked what would happen/how much it would cost in the future to replace the battery in a Zen V Plus (as it it not removable like my old Zen Micro) and unbelievably I was told and I quote 'You will have to replace the entire player in the case that the player's battery wear off completely in few years time.' Now is it me or is this ridiculous?!
I wasn't entirely sure about buying an mp3 player with a fixed battery because I've heard from people who own Ipods that it costs a fair amount to replace the battery but to say I'll have to shell out for a completely new player....well, I have to say it's put me off buying a Zen V Plus. I know how quickly batteries can run down - I've been through three in 8 months with my Zen Micro but thankfully it's been a minimal cost to replace.
Any thoughts on this?

Hi lookcloser,
At the moment, there have not been any as the units would all still be in warranty, so this may be why the Customer Support rep gave that info, there has been no need to organise anything like that yet. It may be correct that it is easier or faster to replace the whole unit or they may need to do that, but if you only needed a new battery then you would not be charged for a whole unit replacement.
I will see if I can check a price for you.

  • Buying a Zen V Plus from Amazon.. will there be a warran

I apologize if this has been covered before, but I couldn't find anything using the search feature. Basically, I want to buy a brand new 4GB Zen V Plus from Amazon, but am confused as to whether the Creative year warranty applies on this product?
    Thanks

If it's from a approved retailer on Amazon, then yes it would apply. The only way it wouldn't is if it was a used product, or one we could not verify is new.

  • Don't buy 1GB Zen Nano Plus!

After trying countless attempts to resolve the issue of my Zen Nano Plus turning off by itself after 0-5 seconds, I have decided to return the product. I did as their Customer Tech Support said ( install the firmware, hit the reset button, hit the reset button and then try to install the firmware...), but nothing worked. I had owned the mp3 player for only day, and was never able to listen to any of the music I downloaded onto it. Yesterday I purchased a Samsung player, and hope to have better luck with it.

Ok... Maybe If you woulod have asked help here some ppl like me would have helped you! I bought one (Zen Nano Plus Gb) for my mom and it works perfectly. I found out that if you are using the compact mode in the creative media explorer it makes a mysterious problem with the mp3. This fonction transfers songs into wma format to save space. But I don't know why, when you use this, your mp3 close for no reason after 0 to 5 seconds. What I did is that I remove all the transfered song and I transfered the original version (in mp3 fornat) to the mp3. To my surprise it worked perfectly!!!
Creative could you please check your software or the firmware compatibility with that fonction!?
And by the way, next time you got something that doesn't work as it should, remember to ask on the forums, it also helps!
    Thanks

  • Thinking of getting the Zen Nano Plus

Im thinking of getting this after Xmas, from Amazon UK.
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000A3P3WM
To those that already have this, is this MP3 Player value for money?

I bought mine earlier this week, my first mp3 player, what a little marvel this thing is, can't believe the amazing sound that comes out of such a tiny piece of kit.
I've loaded all sorts of stuff on to it, music, audiobooks, some stand up comics, great to have so much aural entertainment in one ultra portable device.
Not keen on the supplied headphones, they sound ok but aren't very comfy to my ears, i'll replace those soon i reckon. The penlight battery seems to last an age, one or two rechargeables will be a good idea.
So there you have it, if masses of memery isn't a priority this is a great buy.

  • Thinking of Buying a ZEN Vision M 3

Firstly, i am moving to new zealand for a year next week, and would like to buy this mp3 player before i go, so i can put all my music off my computer onto it. While i am away though, will i be able to add more music to my player without wiping what i have got. (basically what an ipod does)
    i.e can i put music on the mp3 player off 2 or 3 PC's?

as far as i know, you would need to install the Driver onto all the PC's you want to transfer music from.

  • Zen V Plus - Resume on Pause Funct

    Hi,
I want to buy a MP3 for reading audio books. I am thinking about buying the Zen V Plus.
However, I have to confirm on the most important feature for me -- "resume".
I heard that Zen V does not resume after pressing pause and let the unit automatically turn into sleep mode.
Have this problem been fixed with the new firmware yet? I will buy it if this problem has been fixed.

    Thank you for you suggestions.
I did bought Zen V Plus and played with it for a while. Unfortunately I have to refund it at the end because of the resume and bookmark feature.
The player is very nice. The interface is easy to use. The joystick control works better than I imagined. However, the bookmark feature didn't work as I expected it to be. It is a bit hard to set (too many buttons to press), not particular convenient for a feature that I need to use frequently. And the other problem is it doesn't seem to remember the playlist when the bookmark was set (there might be a way for the bookmark to remember the playlist? I didn't spend too much time investigating it)
When I press pause, (which I need to do very frequently during a day) and turn off the player, the position will be lost. I can use the power button, if it is a button. But it's not a button, it's a slider that I need to press for a few seconds to turn on and off. I guess I can simply use the pause without turning it off, but there's a risk that the player will turn off itself after a prolonged idling.
I have bought and refund 3 different players during the last few months, sadly none of them are very audio book friendly. Currently I am using the pocket pc (with some customized solution) for the audio books, it's clumsy and with the way I use it, I don't think the unit will last very long. I hope Creative will come up with something that fix the pause and bookmark function soon.

  • Zen V Plus (med

Thinking on buying a Zen V Plus, and got some questions about the video side of the mp3-player.
How big files can It handel when converting? What types of files could be converted to .dib?
    Let's see it this way:
I have an anime episode that I want to check on the Zen V, (Size of the file 72mb)
Could it work to convert it to .dib? And how big are the file going to be after converting?

Honestly the video playing on the Zen V Plus isn't that great. Its more of a "in can if you really have too"? feature more then something I would use on a day to day basis.
In my experience a 6mb compressed AVI file cropped to prior size, ends up being aroudn 50 - 60mb once converted. It really depends on how the original AVI was compressed in the first place. But on the same size I would expect the uncompressed AVI to be around 9 to 0 times the size of the compressed version of the same AVI. For example:? 3minute music Video 28x96 resolution, 5FPS?7,05,658 divx avi????Once edited and converted by video convert for Zen V Plus? 76,333,056?????So "in theory" a 72mb compressed AVI could end up almost 2gb if converted. (Worst case, depends on how the original AVI is encoded in the first place.)?Message Edited by gmandual on 2-7-20062:07 PM

  • Thinking of upgrading to a Zen V plus but have some questi

I own a MicroPhoto and very happy with it. The only reason im thinking of upgrading is that I hurt my back which left my right thumb numb so using the touch scroll/enter has become more work then anything else..
There are 2 different MP3 players im looking at buying:
The Zen v Plus or the Sansa e260
My main question is about the video aspect of the video player.
    . Is there a file size limit's
    2. Does it break up larger files into to smaller parts? The Sansa e260 does this( or did havnt recheck the new updates) into 0min files. Thinking of ripping a movie or 2 and stick it on for long doctor visits.( 2 mroe surgerys for my back)
    3. How is the play back?
How is the new joystick for control?
    Thanks

Ah - so a few weeks ago I was in the same situation myself. I finally opted for the Creative Zen V Plus (4Gb).
The video is actually pretty good on the ZVP... I have ripped a couple of DVD's and converted them using the provided software. It leaves them in a smaller single file. It tells me the format and lets you choose between wide screen (something of a joke on this little jewel) and cropped screen - meaning you won't see the left and right edges. I was surprised that the 5fps worked so well. I mean - I didn't really notice.
The joystick I have a little problem with. It could be bigger or fatter or something. I occasionally have to use my thumbnail to move it. In contrast, the wheel on the Sansa is easy to use but the play buttons were a real pain to press.
I also note that the SANSA requires a special cable for charging and connecting to your computer while the ZVP uses a standard USB A to Mini cable (I must have thirty of those laying around these days).
I was unaware the Sansa had the feature of chopping up your videos. That's a bummer. On the other hand, Sansa has been talking to the folks at RockBox and that could give them a whole other dimension for their player.
I miss the FM record feature on the ZVP (not that I *ever* used it on my iRi'ver - I'd just like it available). And I miss the OGG playback (which I *did* use).
What it came down to for me were these:
    a) The Creative Zen V Plus is smaller than the Sansa (nice)
    b) The Sansa has that oddball cable thing going on (bummer)
    c) The Sansa's buttons are hard to press (double bummer)
So I got the ZVP. I hope this hel

  • DO NOT BUY CREATIVE ZEN TOUCH 2

I cannot begin to explain the problems I have had with the Zen Touch that I bought 2 Weeks ago. The long and short of it is the original device that I bought, I could not transfer songs to it. Dowmloading the latest Firmware / Drivers / Application etc made no difference whatsoever. Problems ranging from errors like 'Device is busy or not attached', to copying songs across and them showing on Creative Media Organiser but not showing on the device itself. Also problems with the device freezing and having to wait for the battery to run out before it would work again. After lengthy phone calls to someone on support who could neither speak or understand english, I arranged for another one to be sent to me, in return for the faulty one. And guess what, the new one has exactly the same faults as the original. I have uninstalled the software on numerous occasions thinking that it may be a faulty install. Set it all up on my machine at work, and my friends machine at work, only for the same problems to occur when transferring songs. To top it all, I sent 3 messages to the support link on the creative web site, only to have a response to, yep you guessed it, NONE of them in FOUR DAYS. My advice to anyone who is thinking of buying a Zen Touch, or any other Creative Labs product come to think of it is, is to go out in the back garden and set fire to the money instead. Just incase anyone thinks I am doing something wrong, I work for a software company, and I know that if we sent a product / gave a support service that was as poor as that I have received, I would be out of a job in 5 minutes. I am Going to get my money back and go for an iPod, telling everyone I know to steer well clear of creative. Thanks for listening.

"If the mailer I received from Cambridge Soundworks yesterday (a Creative complany) is any indication, buying a 20GB Zen Touch or even Sleek would be a bad move. It looks like the Sleek is already being relegated to the status of "**bleep** stepchild" in the Zen line-up, which is where Touch has been for a while. The latest ad from Cambridge Soundworks was pushing the Micros, Nanos, Muvos and even Neeons. But no Sleeks."
You comments don't make much sense. The Sleek is a new model and is probably backordered by many dealers. That is probably why Creative is not promoting it heavily on its own. Demand from Creative's retailers is probably more than enough to consume the production for a while.
"But that's not what's interesting. It's what product <B>was</B> prominently featured: The Zen 20GB. This is the player that looks like a fat Zen Micro in a black case, previously available only in Asia. "
That does seem to make sense though, since Creative probably didn't make enough of them for a full retail store roll out in the US, so they probably decided that that selling them directly would be a good move. National retailers like Walmart, Best Buy, Staples, Office Depot, etc. want products to be available in huge quantities otherwise they don't want to sell them.

  • Is it worthy to buy a Zen with 2Gb and a SD card of 4 or is it better to buy a Zen with 4

    Hi.
I'm thinking on buying a Zen, but i'm a bit confused on the issue of if is it better to buy a Zen with 4Gb or a Zen with 2Gb and a SD card with 4Gb, because the diference on the pricefrom the 2Gb to the 4Gb fits a SD card with 4Gb, and will result in a Zen with 6Gb...
Does the zen works fine with the reading times of the SD cards? Or does the performance drops when reading from the card?
I would apreciate your experience/knowing opinions.
    Thanks

  • Zen V Plus firmware wishl

I could not find a wishlist for the Zen V / V Plus, so here it is.
Plain and simple just like the other player wishlists. No questions and no discussions. Just topics with firmware improvements for Zen V / V Plus. Hopefully, the Creative developers will see this.
The Zen V Plus is a great multi-function DAP, almost perfect for its niche. It only needs a few improvements.
A list in order of importance to me (most important first):
) Improve the current bookmarking mechanism by saving the current playlist along with the current audio track position. Currently, if you are listening to track number 0 out of 20 tracks for an audiobook and save it to a bookmark, restoring that bookmark will restore only the one saved track to the current playlist. You have to manually add back the other tracks to the current playlist.
    2) When powering-off on a paused audio track, the Zen should power-on paused to the same position in the audio track. Currently, the Zen V powers-on paused to the beginning of the same audio track. I listen to a lot of audio books and track position is important in a power-on resume.
2a) Option to treat an album as continuous audio content so that a rewind started in track 6 will back into track 5 continuously (in other words from the beginning of track 6 to the end of track 5 and so on). This is very important for listening to audio books.
    3) Add FM tuner radio recording.
    4) When scrolling a long list of songs, the scrolling should accelerate.
    5) The lower end of the volume scale in terms of loudness should be quieter. I listen with high sensitivity IEMs at night and level one is too loud.
    6) Audible.com tracks should be in their own album named Audible. Right now they fill up the Album selection list. I have about 40 Audible.com tracks on my Zen V Plus and about 20 music albums. The Audible.com tracks clutter up the album list.
    7) When configuring the menu, unchecked top level items should move into the EXTRAS menu. In other words, unchecking PHOTO would move it into EXTRAS.
    8) Option to backup all Zen V settings and radio presets to the PC.
    9) Allow charging of the Zen V from an ordinary (not Win XP) USB port or from an ordinary USB charger.
    0) Add a sensitivity (low and high) option and/or an AGC (auto gain control) option to voice recording for close and distant recording.
) An option to select all tracks EXCEPT speech tracks like Audible.com tracks, podcasts, and audiobook tracks, so that Shuffle mode will play only music. This might be done by having a setting for genre exclusions (speech, audiobook, podcast, and so on)
    2) A fade in/fade out option.
    3) A configurable HOLD option (lock all, not volume, not play/pause, not both).
    4) Scheduled FM recording.
It would be nice if the Zen V Plus could play compressed video, but I presume that with a small battery and low power processor, this is not possible.Message Edited by IpaqMan on 2-05-200609:2 AM

Glad this form is here. I was considering buying a Zen V Plus. I currently use a zen nano plus to listen mostly to audible books. My complaints:. Can't lock it so that if it's sitting in a purse it sometimes accidently turns on and then keeps going until it sues up the battery2. You have to scroll through everything on the zen nano plus in order to get to the book you want to listen to.I thought I would change to the Zen V Plus but am very concerned that you can't rewind within a track. Iuse that a lot and don't want to only be able to go back or forward to a a chapter or track. I tried using a Sandisk Sansa?c40 which had this characteristic and it drove me crazy and I went back to my Zen Nano.
I 'd like a player that has a menu so that you can choose the book or music you want to go to from a menue - withhout scrolling , but that allows you to rewind\fastforward inside the book by the second. ANy ideas? Thanks?Message Edited by lisamp3 on 05-0-20072:26 PM

  • Creative Zen Nano Plus audio line-in recor

Im planning to buy Creative Zen Nano Plus GB.
. Does Creative Zen Nano Plus audio line-in recoreder offer excellent quality of sound music when you record a certain music through a CD player's line-in?
    2. Please rate the quality of recorded sound music from to 0.
    3. Does the recorded sound quality the same as when you just download the music file through your PC's USB connection?
    thanks.

Is there something I need to set in the player to allow it to play out of it's line-in function?
You connected the ZNP's headphone out to your car|shelf|portable stereo's line-in, right? The line-in on the ZNP itself is only used to record external audio sources onto the player. The stereos may need to be set to play back from their line-inputs if they don't detect the signal and switch automatically, but that should be explained in the corresponding manuals.

  • Zen V Plus pics

    Hi,
I am considering buying the zen v plus.
I have a zvm and an ipod nano.
I would like to see some pics of the screen with album art to compare to the nano.
Anyone any opinions on how they compare?
I like the look of the v plus more as the menu system on the ipod is v annoying after using zvm and the shortcut button.
Does v plus have shortcut button?

  • Zen nano plus browsing.

i want buy a zen nano plus GB but reading reviews found this problem : "Zen Nano does not allow you to browse through the collection of music files on the device while listening to music at the same time. You have to remember what?s on it because once you use the skip folder function it simply interrupts what you?re listening to and moves you on to the first track in that folder."
    is true? with any firmware?
i thing is a problem something silly dont browse through files while listening but maybe has been solved now, i hope.

"The player remains usable as it is, don't get me wrong. It's just that it lacks features I wasn't expecting it to lack. A clear example... at any time I have no clue what track number I am listening to, which album/folder/number I am at, when the albums have changed."
If this is so important to you, then you could add a prefix for each song . For the first folder, each filename could start with A, then have a number 0,02,03, etc. for each song. The songs in the second folder could all start with the prefix B. If you use the album/folder/number sequence, then the prefix could start with a number. For example, the first song in the first album in the first folder could use the prefix 0A0. The first song in the third album's second folder could have the prefix 03B0. This seems rather simple to implement. If you want to save a charachter and use only 4 rather than 5, then instead of using 03B0, you could use C02A. Of course this assumes that there are no more than 26 songs in a folder. The other scheme assumes no more than 26 folders per artist.

  • Questions about buying a Zen Visio

Im thinking about buying a Zen vision M but i dont want to buy it and have creative come out with a new better product like 3 months down the line because it is alot of money and i dont want that to happen, is there a new player in the works already to surpass the features of the vision M or am i pretty safe buying it, and about the screen, what are your expierences with the screen , do the movies look good? alright thanks in advance for any responses.

in regards about Creative coming out with another player, i wouldn't know but then again i wouldn't put it past them. but in terms of features, the Vision M has it all so i don't really see why they would need to come out with another one?as for the screen, it's superb, i've already watched a couple of movies on it. i will say however at certain angles, the screen is dark, but if you look at it from head on you're perfectly fine.basically if someone is sitting beside you about foot away, it will appear dark for them, but as long as they are right beside you, it's fine
