Hi,
Which way do you want to share the Word and Excel file?  If we want to share Word and Excel file and allow multiple users to edit/save them at the same time, the Word and Excel has the different ways.
Word: The file working with other users is based on the SharePoint. The following sections describe best practices when you are co-authoring with other users.
Co-authoring and the checking out of documents
Co-authoring documents and versioning
Co-authoring documents in a mixed Office version environment
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/office365-sharepoint-online-enterprise-help/document-collaboration-and-co-authoring-HA102772333.aspx
Excel: When you share a workbook, multiple users can't work in the same file at the same time. Instead, you merge changes from one or more copies of that workbook back into the one that you shared.
The process works like this: You share a workbook, and as part of sharing, you save the workbook. Someone else then copies the shared workbook and adds their data to the copy. When they're done, you merge the data from the copy back into the original.

  • Two HDDs saying 'disk needs to be repaired' at same time / external drive.

    Hello there,
I have had a strange problem within the last couple of days. Both my iMac which I use at the office and my MacBook Pro have had problems writing to an external FW800 drive which I work directly off [the error comes when I try and save from an application / try and copy / rename files on the drive]. The message is that either a problem occurred or that the filename is too long [it isn't]. When this happens I try and restart, but the disk causes the finder to hang.
This has happened with both machines [the iMac and MBP], and as a consequence - when I run disk utility on each machine, I get a message that the disk needs to be repaired:
Error: This disk needs to be repaired. Start up your computer with another disk (such as your Mac OS X installation disc), and then use Disk Utility to repair this disk.
Has anybody had similar problems? Is this a coincidence? Or would blame point to the external drive?
The drive is a Lacie Rugged 250gb FW / USB. It does get rather hot - don't know if that should affect anything.
    Many thanks,
    Ben

Could this problem in turn cause the internal HDD problems I've been experiencing with the iMac and the MBP after the Lacie becomes unresponsive?
Or, your internal HD problems are transferring to the Ext.?
It's hard to say. I would at least do the following basic repairs to all your hard drives.......
Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them. Disk Utility's Disk Repair is not perfect and may not find or repair all directory issues. A stronger utility may be required to finish the job.
    After that Repair Permissions.
No need to report Permissions errors....we all get them.
Think it might have to be returned...
Yes I would return it just cause of the heat issue alone.

  • Two external FW drives - Can't mount both at same time?

Hi, I just got two new 200 GB ATA drives and I've installed them in two separate cases. I have managed to get both drives formatted and mounted, but only one at a time. If I have one drive switched on and mounted, as soon as I switch the other one on, the system hangs and I get the beach ball. If I then switch off the drive I just put on, things return to normal. If I unmount the first drive and switch it off and then turn on the second drive it mounts normally.
I have another FW drive with a different type of controller in its case (Oxford Semiconductor Ltd). I can mount that no problem and then mount either of the two new drives. The only thing I can't get to work is the the two new drives in their cases made by the same manufacturer. System Profiler says that the external cases contain Prolific PL3507 Combo devices.
I have tried every way of connecting the drives - i.e. two cables one from each drive to each FW port on my computer and also daisy chaining the drives, but I still can't get the two new drives to mount together. If I use my old FW drive and one of the new ones, I have no problem getting them both to mount with two cables or daisy chained.
So I'm stuck now - any advice I can get here will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
    Powermac G4 MDD 1GHz DP   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   2 GB RAM

Thanks Malcolm - Do you think it might be worth trying to flash the firmware on these cases - there seem to be updaters available on Prolific's website. Obviously I'd have to do it on a PC. I've emailed Prolific asking them about my problem. No reply as yet, and I'm not holding my breath! Do you know if there are any other posts on these boards relating to Prolific? Stupid question really - I'll just do a search...
Thanks again for your post. Cheers from Bonnie Scotland.

  • Two people can open one InDesign file at the same time

We have Mac (10.8.5) users who share files on a file server. They are connected to the file shares via NFS. The users are using Creative Suite 5.5. When a user opens a file, they get the appropriate ".idlk" lock file. For example:
    ~test~0kjyv(.idlk
    TEST.indd
As far as I used to know, this used to prevent anyone else from opening that same file. But now, multiple users can open the same file. Whoever makes the first save seems to win. The next person who tries to save the file will get the following error:
"Another user has modified the Adobe InDesign document TEST.indd. To prevent damage to the document, InDesign is shutting down."
InDesign then locks up and starts beachballing. The only option is to force quit.
I tried updating the users to the latest version of CS5.5 InDesign which is 7.5.3.
    Has anyone else encountered this?
    Thanks,
    Rob

Maybe it is something to do with using NFS? Our Mac's are bound to AD, and use NFS shares because they have issues with SMB/CIFS. They are connecting to an EMC NAS. All of the users have read/write permissions to the files.
I tried the same process on a test AFP share that I created from a Mac OS X Server, and then it works as expected. When the second user tries to open the file, they cannot, and they get an error message:
"Cannot open the document TEST.indd. You may not have permission or the document may be open already."
Why doesn't it behave this way on the NFS share?
The permissions look comparable for each:
    NFS share:
    -rw-rw-r--@  1 ADuser  ADgroup   6823936 Oct 29 16:17 TEST.indd
    -rw-rw-r--@  1 ADuser  ADgroup        0 Oct 30 09:37 ~test~0kjyv(.idlk
    AFP share:
    -rw-rw-r--@  1 admin    staff          6823936 Oct 30 09:33 TEST.indd
    -rw-rw-r--@  1 admin    staff               0 Oct 30 09:35 ~test~0kjyv(.idlk

  • WE HAVE A CLIENT COMPUTER IN THE SHOP (EXPANION UNIT). WE CAN'T RUN FIREFOX ON IT AND OFFICE COMPUTER AT SAME TIME. I HAVE CHECKED THE BOX THAT ALLOWS US TO RUN AS DIFFERENT USERS, BUT IT STILL IS NOT ALOWING ME TO LOG ON. SUGGESTIONS?

The box is under properties, 2nd tab, then advanced. We are currently using the same log on for both computers. Do we need to create a separate log on for the expanion unit or?

I would suggest trying it as different users.

  • Connecting two iPods to computer at same time

Question: Am I able to connect two iPods (Nano and Shuffle)to my computer at same time? I would want to do this to mainly charge the batteries to these units. My computer has a four high-speed USB connections and I would like to know if this is possible and/or advisable. Thanks very much.

I'm not sure if you're able to use both at the same time (for data transfer)... You should, however, be able to use both for charging.
If you eject the iPods it shouldn't be a problem to use more than one at the same time. To eject the iPod in iTunes you would go to the iPod in the source list (on the left, under library, podcasts, etc.) then click on the little eject button, it'll stop being recognized by the computer so it should work.
I hope this works for you, if not, just update and I'll try to help more.
    Good Luck,
    Joey.

  • Why can't two people in our house use Microsoft Office at the same time?

When my daughter tries to use Microsoft Office on her MacBook while my husband is using it on his MacBook Pro, she gets the following message: Microsoft Office 2008 cannot start because it is already in use. An Office program is being used by [my husband's name]. Your installation exceeds the number of installations permitted for the license agreement. Click more information to learn more about Microsoft Office licensing." When she clicks on that, the information is nonsensical and overwhelming. Why is it doing this?

Protection.  Although I havent come across this myself, the license with Microsoft is obviouly for the use of one computer only. You have clearly violated the license by installing it on more than one machine, hence the problem.  This is how they make their money and they aren't alone.  But the rules of engagement mean that it is intended for one machine only and not two at the same time.  (Sadly).

  • How can two people edit the same InDesign CC document?

I am looking for a desktop publishing application that I can use to create programs for a high school choir and am experimenting with InDesign CC.  I'll do most of the work creating the progam, but the choir teacher at the last moment will have changes for me or will do them herself.  Either way she will be producing the final copy for printing.
In an ideal world we would be able to edit the same file at the same time, me from my office and her from her classroom, not on a shared network, much like Google Docs.
Does InDesign CC have this capability?  What steps would I use to approach this problem using InDesign CC?

You can look into InCopy for text changes and put the InDesign file in a
    dropbox folder.

  • How to avoid that two or more people alter the same Sales Order same time

I'm looking for a way to avoid that two or more people altering the same Sales Order at the same time.
If someone has entered a Sales Order in the system and something needs to be adjust it can be done by two or more people at the same time. The problem is that when someone is saving these changes, the changes of another person, who is still working on the same order, get lost.
So what we need is an alert that someone is already using this order and that no other person can make any changes at that time. So the order needs to be blocked for altering for any other person at that time.
To avoid this I think you have to do something with the Stored Procedure. Or has someone a more simple and better solution.
I've already put this thread in the Business One forum and someone suggested to put it in the Business One SDK forum, as there isn't a solution in Business One itself.
So if someone can give me a direction for a solution I would be very pleased.
    Best regards,
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
The only thing that comes close to what you want in standard SBO is Data Ownership. However, this can't stop someone editing a document that is already being edited.
You can't use stored procedures to track which document is open because the SBO_SP_TransactionNotification proc (which is the only one that you are able to customise) is triggered when a document is updated or added (or cancelled or closed) and not when the document is actually being edited in the user-interface.
You could do this by writing an addon that uses the UI API to trap events in the sales order form. In theory, a sales order is being edited if the sales order form is in Update mode (ie in order for the form to be in Update mode, the user must have selected an existing document and changed the value of at least one field). You can trap the event of the user changing a value and then log the user and document in a table. When other users try to edit the same document, you could check the table and then prevent them changing values. When the first user clicks on the update button (or cancels the update or closes the form etc etc) you can remove the lock on the document. However, I have doubts as to how robust it would be. The problem with this kind of locking solution is that you sometimes get 'stranded' locks (eg user was editing a document when their workstation crashed) and the solution can end up being more troublesome than it is worth.
    Kind Regards,
    Owen

  • LaCie 6TB drive ejects when Air sleeps: I use two 6TB LaCie drives - home and office with my Air, which travels with me. Only have a problem with one. Is there a fix?

LaCie 6TB drive ejects when Air sleeps: I use two 6TB LaCie drives - home and office with my Air, which travels with me between the locations. Only have a problem with one that inappropriately ejects when the Air sleeps (and only sometimes). Is there a fix? I've read others who believe that the problem is with the operating system (I'm using 10.9.2). But my problem suggests that it's with one of the LaCie's. Any suggestions about how to fix?

Lacie doesnt make HD, thats a Seagate inside the box.
    Is there a fix?
Yes, get a 4TB max HD,    6TB drives are both new and have known issues,  ...in fact so do most all 4TB drives.
my problem suggests that it's with one of the LaCie's
    You mean Seagate
Large external hard drives are great! Large external hard drives are horrible
It is a common premise that people are overjoyed at the dropping prices per terabyte on external hard drives, and the first thing that enters most peoples minds is "great, I can put all my stuff on one drive,... all of it!" However considerations need to be made in creating a giant single choke point for not mere data loss, but seriously large data loss. If there is at the very least yet another redundant copy, this is fine, otherwise do not consider it whatsoever. Some 3TB and 4TB drives of all mfg. have, at the time of this writing, reliability concerns currently and best recommendation is staying at 2TB drives or less.
Advantages and disadvantages of larger 3TB and 4TB external drives must be weighed

  • Can two people share the same Apple ID on two different iPhones and maintain different passwords?  Yes, there is more to the story.

I have an iMac, and iPhone.  I've had my Apple ID for a few years.
My wife got an iPhone 4S a few months back and the salesperson at Verizon set her Apple ID the same as mine, but gave her a different password.  I don't know if this was ok, but that is what happened.
So, yesterday, we both upgraded to IOS6 and I had no problem logging in to my iPhone with my Apple ID.  When my wife went to log in, she was told that she was entering the wrong password. We entered the password over and over again and still was wrong.
The question is... can two people share the same Apple ID on two different iPhones and maintain different passwords?  (I have the feeling her iPhone is thinking that since it's my Apple ID, it wants my password.)
If not, can I still set up a new Apple ID for her even through she's had the iPhone for a few months?
    Thanks.

    Hi
You shold follow your feelings, its probably right most of the time.
You can have 5 different devices hucked upp to one Apple ID. What I have done is that my wife and I have one Apple ID, when I bye a new app on my phone, She gets it to. Thats nice.
You can allways set upp a new Apple ID for your wife.

  • Can two people share an icloud account keeping their info separate

can two people share an icloud account keeping their info separate

No: iCloud is intended for use by one person to keep their Macs and devices in sync. Anyone signed into the account has access to all its data. Separate people should have separated iCloud accounts, and separate user accounts on their Mac(s).

    No.
To be correct, there is no such thing as an iTunes credit card account. There is an iTunes account with credit card info (if you choose to add that info).
I suggest you create a new account for him. You can use your credit card if you wish (i would NOT recommend that as there is no way to limit purchases).
You can use your CC to create the account then immediately remove it after creating the account.
Then give him gift cards to add to his account or give him an iTunes allowance.
