If we create more indexes in what way it decreases performance ??

If we create more indexes in what way it decreases performance

> Even though if u want to do some DML operations
on that table u have to disable the indexes and do
the operations.
Could you prove this or give an example?
Did I do something wrong in the past as I did not observe this?

  • I would like to upgrade to the next step, but because I have many problems with the version 10.4.11, I'm worried that upgrading would create more problems.

Due to a misunderstanding with [email protected] in September of 2010, many of my applications and important files were put into the trash during a cleaning.  The trash hadn't been deleted, so a CleanApp rep told me to drag my important files to a folder on my desktop.  They were unable to help me with anymore advice with the exception that if I followed the pathway of the application, I could manually restore it to its proper location.
This was asking a lot of me because I didn't have the experience or knowledge of undertaking such a massive restoration.  However, I did the best I could.  What had been put in the trash was not just a few files -- there were hundreds of files or apps that I discovered in the trash.  As I said, this was a misunderstanding.  I was left feeling devastated at what had happened.
Since then, my iMac Intel Core Duo has been running on its last legs.  I'm surprised I can even get to my email.  As far as using the software that I bought with my iMac, I can't.  I just do the basics.
What I have been wanting to do is to upgrade to the next level.  However, I worry that if I upgrade a crippled OS X 10.4.11 Tiger, I would be creating more problems than what I already have.  Do you agree that an upgrade would make matters worse?

It won't necessarily make it worse, but may not make it better.  I am not familiar with the utility you usedm though anything that cleans or maintains your Mac should be avoided unless you know what you are doing and what it does.  Probably re-installing software from the official sources (download or CDs) is the best way to ensure missing parts are all replaced.
If this is a core duo and not a core 2 duo then the highest you can go is Snow Leopard 10.6 Get more information about your computer. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then "About This Mac", then "More Info..."  Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).

  • Index approach will involve more input out put in what way?

    hi all ,
can any ine explain the below point
index approach will involve more input out put in what way?
    Regards
    shashank .k

    Hi,
indexing involves additional I/O when performing DML on indexed tables. For example, if your table has 10 indexes, then when you insert or update one table row, you will need to update 10 indexes to reflect these changes. This causes additional I/O.
    Hope this helps.

  • Creating an index in InDesign CS3 - is there any way to limit where and for what it looks?

I'm creating an index for a 300-page book using InDesign CS3 on both a PC with Windows XP home and a MacPro with OS X Leopard (I take this book back and forth between these two computers). I have created this as a book (.indb) file so I can use the Index panel with the book option checked to include all of the book chapters.
There are two things I was wondering how to do, if they can be done at all.
1 - I want the index to look for entries in the main pages only, not in the master pages.
2 - I'd like to be able to do only attributed text. For example, I'd like the index to find only the word people when it is bold and italic, and not all of the other places it may occur. Can I do this with a style also, paragraph and/or character?
    Thanks so much,
    Marcy

Read http://help.adobe.com/en_US/InDesign/6.0/WS8721440D-5F68-4fd6-8115-CA3BEDACF001a.html (the online Help on indexes) -- it will probably answer a few questions.
One I do know immediately is your question on "picking up" stuff from master pages and only with formatting. InDesign does not make an index for you -- you have to (oh! manual labor!) mark the words that should appear in the index yourself. So just don't mark them on master pages, or when not bold and/or italic. You might be wondering about that little button "Mark all instances", well, it does what it say, and in your case you do not want to mark all instances.
The Capitalization issue is, AFAICR, somewhere in the Help; and so is your singular/plural stuff. The latter one is easy solved: if you mark a word to be indexed, ID asks you in a friendly dialog how it should be included, and that defaults to the current selected phrase, but you are free to edit the text in that dialog. ID does not mark the word or phrase; it inserts an invisible marker inside the to-be-indexed word that contains all information you enter in the Add Index Entry dialog, and it uses that to determine what page number to add. (That invisible marker is visible with "Show Invisible Characters", and can be cut, pasted and deleted at will -- so to remove a water melon, find the marker, and delete it.)

  • HT201364 what is the best way to create more space on start up disk?

I am trying to upgrade Mac OS X to 10.9 to improve syncronisation between MAC and Ipad. However I am getting the message "startup disk almost full". I was wondering how I can create more space without deleting programs and files that are important to the functionality of my MAC. Knowing what to delete would be helpful but I am a little worried that I might delete somethng very important without being able to retrieve it, if necessay. I have a 500GB WD external hard drive if that helps in answering my question. Thanks in advance for any bright spark that can answer this question.
    Andy

You should always maintain an absolute minimum of 10 - 15 GB of empty space in order for the OS to function properly. If you do video editing, then you should have a lot more - at least as many GB free as you have temporary files in your project (an hour of HD video project could easily amass more than 100 GB). So, follow Linc's link. You can also permanently move your iPhoto library to an external disk:

  • What files are safe to delete to create more room on my hard drive?

I'm using my G-4 QuickSilver as my ProTools M-Box LE computer exclusively. What files can I safely delete to create more room on my hard drive for processing and speed?

Let me distill Limnos excellent but lengthy set of suggestions.

Be careful when deleting files. A lot of people have trashed their system when deleting things. Place things in trash. Reboot & run your applications. Empty trash.
    (1)
    Run
    OmniDiskSweeper
"The simple, fast way to save disk space"
    OmniDiskSweeper is now free!

This will give you a list of files and folders sorted by size. Go after things you know that are big.
    (2) Buy an external firewire harddrive.
    (3) This will save you a gig of space.
Monolingual is a program for removing unnecessary language resources from Mac OS X,in order to reclaim several hundred megabytes of disk space. It requires at least Mac OS X 10.3.9 (Panther) and also works on Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger). It worked for me on 10.4

You need an external Firewire drive to boot a PowerPC Mac computer.
I recommend you do a google search on any external harddrive you are looking at.
I bought a low cost external drive enclosure. When I started having trouble with it, I did a google search and found a lot of complaints about the drive enclosure. I ended up buying a new drive enclosure. On my second go around, I decided to buy a drive enclosure with a good history of working with Macs. The chip set seems to be the key ingredient. The Oxford line of chips seems to be good. I got the Oxford 911.
The latest the hard drive enclosures support the newer serial ata drives. The drive and closure that I list supports only older parallel ata.

  • What is the difference between the drop and create the index and rebuild index ?

    Hi All,
what is the difference between drop and create index & rebuild index ? i think both are same...Please clarify if both are same or any difference...
    Thanks in Advance,
    rup

Both are same. Rebuilding an index drops and re-creates the index.

  • What is the "No database index" means when you Creating Secondary Indexes?

    HI,
I'm Creating Secondary Indexes in the maintenance screen of the table(se11)
There are three options under "Non-unique Index":
       1.Index on all database systems
       2.For selected database systems
       3.No database index
    My questions is :
What do u mean by "No Database Index" and when is it used.
Can anybody plz tell me what's the difference of this three options ?
Here is what i found in the help:
No database index: The index is not created in the database. If you
choose this option for an index that already exists in the database,
it is deleted when you activate this option.

    Hi,
It is clear from the help documentation,
Here see what the help document says:
Create the index in the database (selection)
Whether an index improves or worsens performance often depends on the database system. You can therefore set whether an index defined in the ABAP Dictionary should be created in the database.
This makes it easier to install a platform-specific customer system.
You can set this option as follows:
    1. Index in all database systems: The index is always created in the database.
    2. In selected database systems: The index is created depending on the database system used. In this option, you must specify the databases in which the indexes are to be created. You can do this either on an inclusive (list of systems on which it should be created) or an exclusinve (list of systems on which it should not be created) basis. In either case, you can list up to four different database systems.
    3. No database index:: The index is not created in the database. If you set this option for an index that already exists in the database, it is deleted when you activate the table in the ABAP Dictionary.
Note: Unique indexes have an extra function, and must therefore always be created in the database. The database system prevents entries or index fields being duplicated. Since programs may rely on this database function, you cannot delete unique indexes from the database.
    Hope it helps you,

  • Is there a way to create an index through Pages?

I would like to create an index for a book using Pages where I have created the book.  Is there a tool in Pages that will set up an index automatically or more easily than using find and the page number?

You can use a Table of Contents but it is clumsy because it collects the entire paragraph of the selected style and then you have to move it to the back of the book.

  • How to create more than 2000 users/groups in a good way.

Hi, guys.I want to create more than 2000 users/groups with Java API. Now I use a regular method to implement this function, login; create a domain; open a maxlsession ; and then call a maxl statement to create a user or a group . I find that the performance of this way is very bad. Can I write a funcation or a marco, which can create these users/groups? If it works, How do I need to write these codes?I have looked over all Java API document, it seems that ESSBASE API don't provide some related api which enables developer to generate a function or a marco. If you know the answer to this question, please tell me. thanks in advance.

    Dear Frank,
Thank you so much for your answer. Beside the save point functionality to save the state and values on the screen, do you know other ways to do the same function? Once again, thank you so much.

  • What is 'Other' and 'Backups' on my HD?  How can I delete them to create more space?

Other and Backups take up the majority (235GB) of my 250GB HD and leave me with little room for anything else.  I have moved iTunes, iMove and iPhoto to an external harddrive. What are they and can I delete them to create more space?  Please help.

"Backups" are local snapshots created by Time Machine. You don't need to delete them; that happens automatically when necessary. Consider them as equivalent to free space, which is in fact how the Finder reports them.
As for the "Other" category, use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space.

  • How to create an index from more than one pages document?

I have 10 different pages documents. Each document is a book chapter. Now I would like to create one index for all of these chapters in a new pages-file without copying all files into one single file. How does this work?

Thanks for your answer. Than this is a real deficit of pages. Have you got any ideas for an alternative solution, that doesn´t force me to work with Microsoft? I have a document of 300 pages, having this in one document is neither practical nor stable. Thank for supporting!

  • What would be a reason to restore my ipod? does it create more space?

someone told me once that if you restore your ipod every once in a while it can create more space. Is this true?

Yes, corrupt files, histories, pictures, etc. the "stuff" you keep on your iPod all take up space / memory. If you restore to new you remove all that "stuff". Of course if you do not safe a backup copy of your stuff before you restore, it will be lost to you. Good luck, Cheers.
