It is said that anyone who could answer these questions must be the iTunes God as prophecied since the creation. The creation of iTunes, that is. While editing a smart playlist, how can one set the limits of 'last played' songs in the range of certain hours of the day rather than certain days. For example all songs last played between the hours of 12am and 6am on any given day. Also, is it possible to create options such as this if it does not exist, and define it in terms of macros or the like?

He who created the great and shiny iTunes did not allow the beleavers to filter their tunes of diversion by the very minute those divine songs were played. For this unholy feature was only practiced by heathens and the followers of mammon.

Now seriously, iTunes does not keep tracks on which time you used to play a certain song on several days. The only thing that is kept is the last time that song was (entirely) played.
So, until Apple coders integrate that feature, it is - plain and simple - impossible.

I'm trying to get my iBook (made in iBooks Author) up on the iTunes store and am stuck.
I now have an iTunes Connect account into which I can sign in. When I try to use iTunes producer, and enter my login info (which works on the browser), it tells me
"There is a problem with your login information. To use this application, you must first sign in to iTunes Connect and sign the relevant contracts."
I'm not sure what a "relevant contract" would be. I look at "Contracts, Tax, and Banking" at iTunes Connect, and there is one entry with Contract Type "Book". However, I can't request it (that is grayed out), and the "Legal Entity" pull down does not show me (as found in the "Manage Users"), but only shows "select".
I therefore can't seem to find a way to do anything to allow me to login with my book via Producer to get it "produced."
Does anyone know what is going on?
The FAQ is a blank page, the "Contact us with questions" asks you to pull down a topic and has no topics there! Very clumsy path to publishing (comparing to CreateSpace, for example). After the ease of iBooks Author it's like hitting a brick wall at 100 mph.

OK, I saw the link for the help video at the bottom - it helped. I have to add a new entity. I was fooled thinking I would already be there and that the entry was me, but it is apparently a general placeholder into which numerous entities can go. For me this was not obvious at all, and I only figured that out by watching the video (which was not easy to spot!).
I'll go through the process now and hopefully no more confusions.

You can get there from here (booting normally); it just may take you a few steps to do it.
If the disk is almost full and the system won't boot then sometimes it will boot in Safe Mode.

If the Safe Mode boot does not do the trick then you can install OS X on an external hard disk, boot from that, and then delete files. You can also reach the disk via Target Mode. A third option is to take it to an Apple store where they can do a network boot and help you remove some files.

Was is the proper script for the main menu's "Play Movie" that will resume after the show has been started?

Ill break it down for you so you can understand the purpose of each part and why its there.
1 Goto 3 if (GPRM 1 = 0)
2 Goto 5 if (GPRM 1 != 0)
3 mov GPRM 1, 1
4 Jump Track 1 (insert your track name here)
5 mov GPRM 1, 0
6 Resume
There you go, now for the dissection:
1 Goto 3 if (GPRM 1 = 0) This basically says, if the value of GPRM 1 is equal to 0, then jump to line 3 in the code, if the value of GPRM 1 is not equal to 0, go to the next line. Since the value of GPRM 1 will always be 0 when you first play the DVD, it will always jump to line 2 the first time around.
2 GoTo 5 if (GPRM 1 != 0) This is saying if GPRM 1 is not equal to 0, go down to line 5 of the script.
3 mov GPRM 1, 1 This is what is executed after line 1 if in the first line, GPRM is equal to 0, this is now taking GPRM and adding a value of 1 to it.
4 jump track 1 After GPRM has a value of 1 added to it, it is going to jump to your track and start playing at the beginning of the track, just as a normal PLAY MOVIE button would do.
5 mov GPRM 1,0 This is resetting GPRM 1 back to zero for the next time around. This is where the script jumps to after you have returned to the menu, if you remember in the first part, the script reads the value of GPRM 1, since on a return to the menu, GPRM 1 now has a value of 1, meaning that in line 2, GPRM is not equal to 0, and it will jump to line 5 in the code. after executing this and resetting GPRM to 0, it will jump to the following line:
6 Resume. Your track will resume to where ever you left off before coming to the menu. viola, your now neck and neck with the big boys.
Hope this works, I tested it out and it worked for me. You can email me if you want and I will send you the actual script that I saved. It is important to remember that you need to set this as a pre-script on the track you want it to effect.

I have an external hard drive , i cut and pasted my itunes library there. when i started itunes i changed the folder in preferences to point where the liobrary is now at. itunes is not recognizing this, i have tried to consolidate the library with no luck...what have i done wrong?

I'm not sure about "cut and paste". If you have iTunes 7, then you can just drag the entire iTunes folder to your external hard drive. Then hold down the Shift key while launching iTunes. You'll be given a dialog box where you can select the iTunes library you want to use. Navigate to and select the iTunes folder in it's new location on the external.

Hello everybody out there,
As I can't find a clear answer in my FCP-manual, I'll ask my very simple question here...
What I want to do is select a segment (V, A1, A2)in my timeline, ripple delete it and then paste insert my selection into another part of the timeline. Pretty basic I should say.
As I like to do this as fast as possible and using only my keyboard, I tried it the way I used to do it on the AVID.
So, in this case:
*I make an IN-OUT selection with 'x'
*I ripple-delete with the delete button
*I set an IN-point somewhere else in the timeline, where I want my selection inserted and press 'arrow-V'.
And then some old selection appears, instead of the segment I had just ripple-deleted before!
So what am I doing wrong?
Or am I asking too much wanting to insert paste the same selection as I just ripple-deleted, without any mouse-movement?
And in case it's not possible... what will be the fastest way then?

For the record, the drag-then-Option method is just one keystroke. That's one long keystroke and one long mouse click.
The other method is three keystrokes and two mouse clicks. (And you have to make sure your AutoSelect buttons are in the correct state for the tracks you want to paste the clips to. If not, then there are more mouse clicks involved.)
Not that I'm counting, mind you.

If the login box keeps popping up either your acct is disabled or you are mistyping your pw.

st.executeUpdate("select * from trainee where id = " + num );Java 101: the "+" operator in the context where one operand is a String will always convert the other operand to a String, and concatenate the two Strings. In other words, yes, you've taken "num" and converted it to a String, an concatenated that onto the end of your select statement.
BUT your database doesn't execute Java objects, it executes the SQL you've sent it. So it will take the SQL you send it:
select * from trainee where id = [some numeric value written as a character string]and PARSE it; in so doing, it will convert that numberic value written as a character string back into a number. However, it will do so using it's rules, which may or may not be Java's rules. If the number is an integer, the conversion will usually work - the same number will be used in Java and inside the database; if the number is not an integer (or a tiny subset of the real numbers that happen to convert back and forth exactly), rounding will probably occur, and other conversion problems may also bite you.
The solution to all this (and many many other problems) is to use a PreparedStatement instead of a Statement.

Cd recorded at the same volume - no one can answer this?

how do i get all songs on a cd i'm burning to be recorded at the same volume? i've tried using sound check in preferences but that does not seem to work for burning; also have changed media -- it is especially noticable on my car cd playback!! any advice appreciated...

The iTunes Sound Check for burning has never worked satisfactorily. If you want to get good quality CDs with decent volume equalization, you might try a more competent burning program such as Nero.

Importing EDLs and Reconnecting Media... Who can answer this question?

Hi, happy holidays! What am I missing here:
I have an EDL with in and out points from a number of different source files.
I import the EDL in Final Cut Pro as a sequence.
I click on the sequence. The edit decisions can be seen in the timeline, with all of the source files designated as offline.
I select the timeline and attempt to reconnect the media.
The media reconnects, no problem, but the edit decisions aren't in place. In other words, all of the media files begin at the beginning of the source media files (i.e. 04:00:00:00), rather than at the edit decision in and out points for each of the edits in the timeline.
Surely I'm just missing a step here, right?

The source files have been have been re-encoded with a different codec, but they are exactly the same insofar as duration of the source files, and the timecode hour and frame rate they have been assigned, as well as the name I have assigned the files.
I am simply trying to trick the EDL into recreating a timeline which utilizes source files which have been encoded differently than the original source files... And the timeline is recognizing these files.... only it won't cue the files up to correct timecode point in the files.

When I plug my iBook into the wall, the module that actually plugs into the wall has two little corner pieces that swing out, almost like hooks. What are these for?!?!?!

Seems it was Linux.
Im sorry but i don't have the expertise in this area to exactly locate the change any dev did in that particular time. I'm just a normal user. I did as much as i could until this point. Now only any dev could notice it and add it to his/her task to find out the source of the problem.

No one can answer this......

Ther are a few people on the forum here who can't connec to their home wireless network. iPhone picks it up and displays the wireless icon at the top but when we try to go online it drops out and connects with 3G or EDGE.
Has anyone got a clue about what is going wrong?

This was happening to me. I switched 3G to off and bam! my wifi connection established without a problem. I think it has to do with the 3G signal trying to establish with a tower and thus causing some sort of problem with the wifi. So whenever I'm home I turn off 3G.
