If you can't deliver, don't promise! Late phone line activation

So I moved into a new flat and ordered sky broadband where I spoke to some very helpful advisors on the phone and everything was paid for swiftly. Setting up and paying couldn't have gone more smoothly and I was very impressed with the service.
However...I was told with complete assurance that I would receive my router on Tuesday 30th June (yesterday) and I would be up and running by Wednesday 1st July.
It was only despatched yesterday (rather than Friday which I was told) and having checked 'Tracked my order' it suddenly says my phone line won't be active until 7th July.
I've already rung Sky and they said its out of their control for when the phone line gets activated and they give an estimated date which 9/10 is right.
My complaint here is if its NOT a definite date then why tell tour customers that it DEFINITELY will be up by a certain date if you can't actually guarantee it? I have exceeded my mobile data now thinking I would have home internet by today (1st July) but now having to pay for more data as I've been trying to sort out
A) why the router was despatched late
B) why on earth the phone line won't be active until a week after the promised date
I understand part B is out of sky's control, however I feel that if you can't guarantee the activation date, do not lie to your customers and tell them it will definitely be ready! I would have rather you say that it will probably be ready on this date, however there is a small chance it may be a week or so later.
I am much displeased with being lied to, and as such am now being charged for using mobile data as I expected to have my broadband up and running by today. But now I have to wait a week whilst running up even more charges on my phone for necessary reasons I.e not checking fb
I hope you take my advice into consideration and stop giving your customers false hope when you cannot deliver what you tell me with 100% assurance.

  • You can have BIG TROUBLE with FIOS (half phone line only)

    Hello world,
    I got the FIOS mid-September,
    and this week it will be one month since my phone line broke for a lot of people (they can't call me anymore),
    and Verizon can't do anything to correct their misconfiguration.
    So, I am alone, with half of a phone line and with an operator (Verizon) who is doing nothing.
    My situation: people from Cox Communication (a famous but local operator in my state) are impossible to call me (when they try they receive the information my number doesn't exist) because I asked to Verizon to keep my number and to move it from Cox to Verizon FIOS (so, I wanted to keep my number, very simple, but impossible for Verizon).
    For 4 weeks, I am trying to explain this simple situation but their answer is "all is fine from Verizon".
    Does anyone have an idea to solve this stupid situation?
    Thanks

    Understand that if this is impacting incoming calls from people uing your old "phone" company but not calls coming from other service providers (i.e. non-Verizon but not Cox customers either), then the problem is on Cox's end.
    Cox never deallocated your number properly when you ported it over to the Verizon -- so they still have it defined in their tables as belonging to them and when people try to call it from on the Cox network, it goes to a disconnected number deadend.
    If this is the situation you have, then you must call Cox and tell them that you "ported your number out to a new provider" and ask that they "release and deallocate" the number from their system as they no longer own it so that calls from customers on their network witll terminate properly.   It will take some persistence and you'll probably need to get past the first level tech support person and make sure you get someone who understands the phone network definition process to get them to fix it.
    If you can't receive calls from anyone -- except other Verizon customers -- then it's a Verizon problem in that they haven't properly completed the port of the number from your old provider -- who is probably still holding the number in an inactive state.  If this is the scenario, then Verizon is the one who has to fix this.

    Abdussalam.A,
    you mentioned that Terminal does not work at all for your MacBook Pro. What currently happens when you run Terminal? In what way does it not work?

    Here is one solution:
    // mouse up action for submit button;
    function GetField(cName) {
    // get field object for cName field with error checking;
    var oField = this.getField(cName);
    if(oField == null) app.alert("Error accessing field named " + cName + "\nPleae verigy field name, spelling and capitalizeation.", 1, 0);
    return oField;
    } // end GetField function;
    var oPhone = GetField("phone");
    oPhone.required = oPhone.value == oPhone.defaultValue;
    var oEmail = GetField("email");
    oEmail.required = oEmail.value == oEmail.defaultValue;
    if(oPhone.required && oEmail.required) {
    app.alert("Missing required fields.", 1, 0);
    } else {
    app.alert("Submitting form", 3, 0);
    // additional code for submission;

    As far as I know there is no US cell carrier that allows pay as you go with an iPhone. You can purchase an unlocked iPhone 4S at an Apple Store and try it with a non-supported carrier.

  • Is it possible to send an automated message to answer when you can't put yours hand on your phone ?

    Read this now : I would like to have an answering machine for my Message app, meaning I'd love if Messages could just answer back to any incoming message when I'm just not able to message back (i.e. : I don't have my phone with me, I'm working and not able to use my phone, etc.).
    Maybe this is already possible ? Is it ?
    Thanks for your answers.
    I know there's a feature that allows you to send a message batck to a caller when you can't answer, but, 1) you have to do something and 2) it's not automated...
    my iphone is an iphone 6 plus with IOS 8.1 and 128G°

    Oops! I hit "Correct Answer" thinking that I could edit my last reply! That wasn't the correct answer, obviously!
    iTunes has replied to me and told me that I cannot download any artwork outside of the USA, so I guess that answers my question, even though it's not what I'd wished to hear.

  • Can i still use a care call phone line with infini...

    hi i have placed my order for bt infinity i have been thinking i have a care call phone for my dad which connects to the phone line via an adapter, can i still use it with infinity?
    or will the phone socket take away the compatability?
    thanks
    mark

    If your care phone adapter is plugged into your BT socket,then if you get infinty installed I think that the only thing that the engineer will update is the master socket.
    He/she should fit a new faceplate to the socket for the infinty data line [it has 2 outlets],you will still have a normal phone outlet,and I think that your care phone adapter can be used as normal.
    But others might not agree.
    Keep an eye on this thread as pthers might post thier responces.

I got a "phone number added to Iphone, Iphone is now using xxx-xxx-xxxx message it was my husbands number so I accepted it. Now he is getting all my text I went into the send/recieve and his phone number was there and on the same line it says verifying and it won't let me do anything. Does anyone know if the verifying will stop or when it should stop so I can delete his number? He lives in a different location and wants to wait until I get there to set up his own AppleID. Thanks

    I used the post that said to turn off Imessage and facetime and back on-

  • Can I control a computer through a phone line instead of the internet?

    I have used a program called procontrol in the past which allows me to adjust sensor set points and get readings over a phone modem. How can I adapt this to labview. I am currently using logmein to control the computer, but the cost for internet is more than phone.

    How much control do you need?  If you simply want to transfer a file every once in a while it shouldn't be too difficult, but if you want to see a front panel and set values on it then it would be a lot of work.  For file transfer, there's an example of using a modem to communicate with a Fieldpoint unit that you could adapt to run on a computer.

  • HT1212 What if the Iphone states it is disabled connect to I-tunes but you don't have a computer and the one you are using wants you to trust it but you can't because it doesn't give you the option on your phone because it is locked?

    What if the I-Phone states it is disabled connect to iTunes and when you don't have a computer available that is sync with phone, but are using a different computer. You can't trust the computer from your phone because it is locked.  How do I gain access.

    Maybe you should get new friends.
    I'm not sure that recovery mode works when you have to trust the computer, but did you try it?
    If you can't update or restore your iOS device - Apple Support
    If that won't work, perhaps you can use Find my iPhone from a computer in your iCloud.com account to erase the device.
    iCloud: Erase your device - Apple Support
    This has nothing to do with the Find my iPhone app being installed on the phone, but you do have to have Find my iPhone activated in the iCloud settings on the phone.

  • Multiple questions re iPhone iOS 7. Please help where you can.

    Hi,
    I've had a Macbook and an iMac before, so am not unfamiliar with Apple products and the OS in general, however I have just got an iPhone 5C, and after years of mobile phone Android, have not found migrating to the iPhone half as straight-forward as I thought it would be, and have a NUMBER of questions.  I'm unclear on a number of items that I have attempted to search for, and figure out.
    I'm sorry to post all these questions in one discussion! I possibly probably will ask them all individually, but for economy, and in case there's anybody who likes killing more than one bird with a stone, I thought I'd post them all here.
    Please answer any that you can. Any help will be much appreciated.
    1. App Store / iTunes Store - the Android Play Store houses everything in one, but on the iPhone you have the App Store for apps and games, and the iTunes store for everything else, right?
    2. However, where do you search for podcasts?? I can't find podcasts as a category in the iTunes store?
    3. And I can find Audiobooks as a category in the iTunes store, but where can I find ebooks? Or does this not exist? (It does on the android play store).
    4. When you browse through the Featured apps, or Top Charts on the App Store, it presents the apps in a list format each in small/medium size with icons and a small amount of information displayed. HOWEVER, when you use the search function, it displays the app results full-screen. i.e. browsing through the results each app takes up the whole screen, and you swipe along to see the next app. If there are hundreds or more results, it makes it awful to browse through the results of the app search....
    5. is there a way to change the display format of the search results? i.e. in list format and show multiple results on one page, scrolling along or down? I would really, really like to do this.
    6. And can you filter the search results at all?? You don't seem to be able to filter the search results by category or price, or anything. Is this right?
    I am finding app store pretty horrific to use, so any tips would be much appreciated.
    Next questions (and bless your patience if you're still with me here),.....
    7. Newsstand. So I can search for newspapers and magazines in newstand, and in the App Store, and then they will automatically be put in Newsstand? However, I downloaded BBC News, and a couple of other newspaper apps, and they are not in Newsstand?
    ...I can't move anything out of Newsstand onto my phone, i.e. The New York Times, and I can't move anything into Newsstand that's on my phone, i.e. the Guardian app? Is this right?! (I realise I'm giving away all my reading choices here). Surely this can't be right?
    8. Notifications. If something is updated/downloaded et cetera, I get a little red circle at the top right of the app with a number in it telling me there's been some *activity* in that app and to go and check it out. That's fine. But I have a had one of these notification bubbles above my Newsstand app for days now, and I don't know what it refers to or how to make it go away. I've opened Newsstand, and I've opened every newspaper/magazine that I've brought into newsstand, and it hasn't disappeared. Is there any place or way to determine what the notification refers to? If I'm calling it a 'notification' in error, please forgive me and correct me . Short of deleting every magazine in my newsstand, I don't know how to get this red bubble gone. Please help bubble-free me.
    9. MESSAGES. This has astounded me. There are no drafts whatsoever in iPhone time messages? So if you go to compose a new message, if for any reason you can't or don't want to complete the text message at the time, if you leave whatever you have written is gone?
    10. If this is the case, is there an alternative text messaging application that I can use, that would allow this functionality? I'm not talking about whatsapp, which I have, or any kind of messaging platform that uses internet and requires the receiver to have the same app. Just straight text messaging that uses the text allowance given by your service provider. Is there an alternative to this, that allows drafts and the normal functionalities provided for text messages by other phones?
    11. Is there a way to search sent messages alone?
    12. Sometimes my text messages appear green, and sometimes they appear blue. Is there a reason for this? (This is a minor question, please feel free to pass over it if time is scarce)
    Finally, and nearly there.
    13. The push button at the bottom of the screen takes you out of apps, and if you push it twice it takes you to all open apps. Is there no way to actually close an open app when you exit it? Or if you want to actually close an app, any and every time, you have to push the iPhone home button once, then you have to push it twice, and then you have to swipe the app to close it. IS that right?
    14. Or should I not be worried about multiple apps being open in the background? How much battery/resourches does it actually use?
    15. I know that I can close multiple apps simultaneously, or at least three, by swiping three up at the same time. Is there any way to simply close all apps at the same time? Or any app I can download that will do this?
    16. Airdrop. I have a Macbook pro that's less than a year old, and the iPhone 5c is brand new. I can't get Airdrop to work. I've put them both as discoverable to everybody or contacts only, I've turned the wifi on and off for both, bluetooth on and off for both, every different combination possible, and there's nothing. Nada. Guidance?
    17. Specifically, if I can't get it to work, who do I go to? Can I take my macbook and iphone to an Apple store? Can I get customer support? I want to use the airdrop feature as I've figured I've paid for it, but I don't know who to access the support for doing so, or which would be the most effective.
    Really and truly finally:
    18. My bluetooth seems to be turning itself on all the time. Even when I've turned it off. Why oh why?
    Thank you very much.

    1. Yes. App sotre has Apps and Games. Itunes has everything else.
    2. Podcasts are also found in the iTunes store. (The Podcast App only plays them, but is not a store)  You can search by title, and using the More button at the top filter by type. Select Podcast.
    3. Ebooks can be found in the iBooks App. Its a separate App and store.
    4, 5 and 6.unfortunately no, no and sadly no.
    9.  Nope, Messages is treated like a chat as such no drafts.
    10. There are many Apps in the store for SMS messaging.
    11. Spotlight search searches everything. You can go into Settings->General->Spotlight search and deactivate everything except messages to search for messages only.
    12.Yes.  Green messages are standard SMS  messages. Blue messages are iMessages. Apple's messaging service.  If the user is not using an Apple device or is not registered with iMessage it will send an SMS. Otherwise it will use iMessage over the internet to save on SMS costs.
    13. When you exit an App most will close. When you get to all open Apps swipe the App screen shot to close it manually.
    14. Most Apps in the Multitasking list aren't actually running. As such they don't use battery. Only Apps set to background tasks will continue to run via the Background App refresh setting.
    16. Correct Airdrop at this point is only between iDevices.  or between Macs. You can't Airdrop between a Mac and an iDevice.
    17. You can take your Phone to an Apple Store for support form the Genius bar if required. You also have 90 days phone support.
    18. Airdrop uses Bluetooth. and you may have another App that needs it.
    You may want to take a look at the manual for specifics:

  • My Arch/Pekwm Setup (and you can have it too!)

    Hello Everyone,
    I've gotten a nice working lightweight setup going here with Arch and Pekwm (see screenshot:http://img837.imageshack.us/img837/9571 … enshot.png) and I felt like I should share the tools necessary for others to get a similar environment up and running quickly. The core of my "desktop" is Pekwm, LXPanel, Xcompmgr, and Nitrogen. I also have a set of common applications installed, choosing lighter alternatives based on my knowledge of what's light and what works.
    This quick guide assumes a bit of knowledge and doesn't spell out every command, but should be plenty clear for intermediate Archers and likely many beginners. The guide will be based on a clean install, which assumes you already have Arch installed and are able to boot and login as root into the console. You should also make sure to run a pacman -Syu before beginning if you are working from a fresh install.
    The majority of this will be a bunch of pacman commands to get everthing installed. I'm providing my confirguation files as a means of getting a system setup quickly. For more details of configuring certain components, I reccomend the Arch Wiki, which has very nice documentation on just about everything I'm suggesting for installation here.
    Oh! and one more thing. I have NOT yet tested this exact guide on a fresh install, so it could likely contain typos, missing programs, etc. It is, however, derived from a text document that I use everytime I create a fresh install, so it should be pretty solid. There may also be some leftovers that are specific to my username, paths, etc. If you find these, please let me know and I'll update accordingly. I also plan on posting my openbox setup at somepoint, so any feedback here would be greatly appreciated.
    And so it begins...

You can also comment out or modify the xcompmgr line to your likings. I just run it for transparency and no other effects.
    For the Vanilla-DMZ mouse cursor to be the default (which is what I am using), create this file:
    .icons/default/index.theme
    And populate with this:
    [Icon Theme]
    Inherits=Vanilla-DMZ
    Run lxappearance from the System menu and select MurrinaCandido (Human-Graphite also works well with this setup) for the GTK theme and GNOME for the icon theme. Again, this assumes you wish to copy my exact setup. Also, the theme I am running in Pekwm is Murrina334, which *should* be set by default if you use my config.
    NOTE: The attached tarball also includes a folder called "Fonts". This came with one of the the Pekwm themes I downloaded, but I can't remember which one. So, just copy contents to /usr/share/fonts/ to be safe.
    ## ISSUES/CAVEATS WITH PACKAGES AND SUCH ##
    1) If you want mangler (which is in my pekwm menu), you'll need to get that from the AUR.
    2) If you want a version of Midori that doesn't crash when you click on the little history button in the address bar, you'll need to get the git version from the AUR.
    3) For mounting of CD/DVD drives to work properly in thunar, you *may* need to modify /etc/dbus-1/system.d/hal.conf and add these lines:
    <policy group="power">
    <allow send_interface="org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.SystemPowerManagement"/>
    <allow send_interface="org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.LaptopPanel"/>

  • How difficult can it be to get a phone line instal...

    First of all, for a communications company, BT are shockingly bad at communicating with their customers!
    We ordered a home move for our phone line and Infinity services back at the start of Dec, and had an activation date of 19th Dec. The engineer duly turned up on that date and set about the install. The single socket in our house was not where we wanted it (no power socket close by for the broadband router), but he would see about moving that and all was good so far.
    However, the engineer was struggling to get a tone on the line and after much to-ing and fro-ing and calling another engineer who was nearby, decided that the actual wires to the house were damaged somewhere between 30m and 250m from the house and as he was not qualified to do any underground works, he was going to pass the job onto another engineer. The next engineer duly came next day (on a Saturday no less!) to get us up and running. No dice. The engineer could not find the break, and we would have to get a new cable put in.
    Now, apparently when our house was built the telephone cable was not put in with any ducting and ended up being concreted into the wall! So we would have to get new ducting and the works installed. He then went to paint up the pavement where it needed to be dug up to put the ducting in etc. Except the pavement was covered in leaves, so he sprayed the leaves. Hey ho - I knew where he had painted and I would be able to direct the guys if necessary. As the was the Saturday before Xmas, he was doubtful if the contractors would be before the New Year. The engineer did however get the broadband connection available.
    Roll on the New Year and it's a stoney silence from BT, until the morning of the 13th Jan, when a contractor appearred at the door to say he was here to put in the ducting. I pointed out where it was going and left them to it. I glanced out of the window after a while to see they had made a 2ft gap in the hedge at the wrong side of the garden! I also watch in disbelief as one of the guys loaded his wheel barrow with spoil and wheeled it into the woods across the road and dumped it. These guys were the "dig things up" gang, another team were the "filling in" team and they would be along shortly to fill in the hole and re-lay the tarmac on the pavement. However, we at least now have the ducting from the street the house with a rope in the duct to allow a cable to be pulled through. Progress of a fashion.
    A few days later, the hole was filled in and the pavement tarred. It then took a full week before another engineer turned up to actually pull the wire through the ducting and connect us up. Except he couldn't because the rope was jammed. So he passed the job back to somebody else. Then 2 days later engineers 5 and 6 turned up with a rodding wire to free off the rope. They couldn't free it off. They did work out that the ducting was probably dislodged by the "filling in the hole" team, thus trapping the rope. This would need the pavement dug up again to reset the ducting. Oh joy.
    So, imagine my surprise when another engineer turns up one morning to install our line to discover he couldn't pull the rope through, then another engineer turns up in the afternoon to do the same , followed by yet another engineer the next day!
    Meantime, the only communication from BT on the whole matter is when we call them to be told it is all in hand and it will be completed "in 2 days time", or we receive a text message saying they tried to call (no missed calls), and would try to call again in 3 days, do not call them back.
    So far in this saga we have had 13 people at the house, not getting us a phone line, in nearly 8 weeks and absolutely terrible communication from BT.
    A call to BT at the end of last week resulted in a promise that we would be fully installed by yesterday at 8pm.
    I called BT this morning to be told that the external works will be completed by this Friday and they would then call me back to arrange an appointment for the engineer to come and do the install next week!
    The only saving grace is we do have an internet connection (pretty vital for me as I work from home!) although I do have an extension cable running across my hallway and we have not been getting charged for line rental for the past 2 months.
    I was told today that we should be getting compensation, but to be honest I am not bothered about that - I JUST WANT A PHONE LINE INSTALLED!
    Rant over (for now!)

    Hi smert,
    I am sorry about the delay in getting your phone line on. It definitely sounds like you have been going through the mill lately with all the work being done and still no phone line.
    Please send me in your details using the "Contact The Mods" link found in my profile and we will take it from here.

  • How do you setup group contact list on the I Phone

    Looking for easy steps to establish groups among my contact list on my I Phone.

    This is done through the contact application on your computer, then you sync the groups to your phone, Requires Outlook or Mac Address Book. There are third-party apps that also provide this functionality, search in the app store. You can't create groups directly on your phone.
