If you cannot install or run iTunes 7.5, you may try this

1. If the installer complains that it cannot find itunes.msi or cannot remove previous iTunes or Quicktime, try exit any running iTunes or Quicktime application, remove all iTunes and Quicktime (including Apple mobile device) installation registry entries (and other corrupted installations) with Windows Installer cleanup utility (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301) and manually remove c:\program files\itunes, c:\progrom files\quicktime (and c:\program files\common files\apple if it exists) folder (the exact path may differ depends on where you install Windows on), then run the iTunes 7.5 installer again.
2. If iTunes 7.5 crash on opening and Quicktime player also crash or malfunction, this is the problem of the included Quicktime 7.3. remove it in Add/Remove Programs (XP/2003) or Programs and Features (Vista) and try download and install an older Quicktime (7.2 (http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktime72forwindows.html) , or 7.1.6 (http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktime716forwindows.html) if you use incompatible driver of nVidia 7/8 series display card and/or some RAID configuations).
3. If you still have problems try set Quicktime to safe mode (open Control Panel\Quicktime, select Advanced and select Safe Mode (GDI).)
somebody reported that iTunes 7.5's CD-ROM related features cause BSOD on some systems. Currently no way can fix this.

It's bundled with 10.5.3 and newer and can't be installed separately on those OSes.

  • Cannot install or uninstall iTunes

When I tried to install the new V10.2 over 10.1.1.4 I continually got a message stating "The path to "c:.......iTunes64.msi" cannot be found. Verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package "iTunes64.msi" in a folder from which you can install the product iTunes.". I checked the path and the file is where it says it should be. So, I moved the file to the desktop and tried to run if from there but got the same message. So I tried to uninstall iTunes as suggested in the online support but couldn't uninstall as I got the same message. Now iTunes won't run at all. Help.

"c:.......iTunes64.msi" cannot be found. Verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package "iTunes64.msi" in a folder from which you can install the product iTunes.".
Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.

  • Can't install or run itunes or quicktime in Windows

First, I own several Macs and one Windows machine. The problem is with the Windows machine (and yes I downloaded the Windows version, hehe).
I've actually been having hard drive trouble with this machine, so this is a fresh installation of the OS, which is Windows XP Pro x64, fully updated as of today. Due to all of my attempts at trouble shooting my hardware problems, I've reinstalled the OS several times, along with itunes and quicktime, and the installations all worked each time (minus the drive failure part, hehe), *except for this time*. Now that I'm using an apparently good drive, I can't get quicktime and itunes to work.
What they do is install, with or without error. If they install with an error, it's a -3 error, or something like that. They never run. I mean, I click on the icons, and all I get is an hourglass, and then nothing (sometimes I get a crash report that is meaningless to me, oh and one time I got an error about some file called run32.dll or something). I can't uninstall the software because whenever I try, it says it completed, but upon rebooting, the stupid quicktime icons are still there (although I think it manages to remove itunes but I'm not 100% sure). There is an uninstaller in the quicktime folder, but even it won't run.
I run Avast antivirus, but I have always been running this and it never caused problems before. I am a low risk when it comes to getting infected with stuff anyway, because I'm very careful when I use the internet (I don't think I've ever seen a piece of spyware before in my life, or a virus), I'm behind a NAT router that has all ports closed, and I've turned off certain network features on this machine that would normally make it highly insecure.
I've tried that Windows Installer Cleaner thing, but that didn't do anything.
I'm not having any trouble with any other piece of software.
Any suggestions? This isn't a huge issue for me, since I have other computers I can run itunes on, but it's really bugging me in a way because it was working fine literally just a couple of days ago. Now that I've reinstalled the OS yet again, though, it won't work.
    Windows XP Pro x64

oh, i know what you mean ... we don't have your specific problem, but the noir household counts itself amongst the ranks of people who had their Outlook Express address books blown up by KB911567.
we've had mixed success with trying to convince Windows Update to stop reinstalling that beast. so we're also planning to implement the following strategy from the latest PCWorld's bugs and fixes column (it appears to be for standard XP, but fingers crossed it should work for x64 too):
Set Windows Update to automatically download patches, but to install them only when you say so. Open the Control panel, choose System, and then click the Automatic Updates tab. Select Download updates for me, but let me choose when to install them, and click OK.
then do custom installs of downloaded updates. then we can check to see if the beastly ones have somehow made their way back onto the list of updates that XP wants to install.
( ... there seem to have been a lot of Windows-update-related problems, lately ... but perhaps it's just that a bunch of them are hitting me where i live, so i'm noticing them more ... )
    love, b

  • Can't Install/Uninstall/Run iTunes

Okay, so I'm stumped. I downloaded iTunes, it ran fine for a day, made my cd-rom stop working and being identified, and now it won't even run. It acts like it is trying to install itself again. I click on the icon and the installer pops up. Then I get a window that states "iTunesHelper.Resources" is not a valid short file name. The only option to click on is "Ok", so I click that. Then another window immediately pops up titled "Probem with Shortcut". In it, it tell me that there was a fatal error during installation. The only option to click on is "Ok", so I click that. Nothing else happens, and the same exact thing happens if I try to re-download, re-install, or uninstall iTunes. What in the heck is going on??? I'm literally stuck with nothing at all to do!

Bit of a long explanation, I'm afraid.
The iTunes desktop shortcut (and I believe the one in your Start menu), are a special variety of shortcut known as an "advertised shortcut". When you click on them, prior to launching iTunes, it checks against the database (in your iTunes.msi file) of what program files and registry entries and whatnot for iTunes ought to be installed on your PC. If it finds that something is missing on your PC, it does a repair install of iTunes in order to try to replace the missing iTunes program files, registry entries and whatnot. That repair install is what is going on with the "Configuring iTunes" message you're seeing when you go to launch iTunes.
Unfortunately, there's some problem with the iTunes.msi on your PC, and that's producing the error message you see when you try to run iTunes. And the same issue with the iTunes.msi is causing the messages when trying to install a higher version or uninstall iTunes.
So we're going to have to try uninstalling iTunes by other means than the "Uninstall a program" control panel in order to get past this.
These instructions are for a 64-bit Vista.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from Microsoft:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Now run the utility ("Start > All programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove". Quit out of CleanUp.
Next, we'll remove leftover iTunes program files and folders.
    Restart the PC.
After the PC restarts, go "Start > Computer".
In Computer, open "Local Disk C:" or whichever disk program files are installed on.
    Open the "Program Files" folder.
Right-click the "iPod" folder (if it exists) and select "Delete".
Right-click the "iTunes" folder (if it exists) and select "Delete".
Go back into "Local Disk C:" or whichever disk program files are installed on.
Open the "Program Files (x86)" folder.
Right-click the "iPod" folder (if it exists) and select "Delete".
Right-click the "iTunes" folder and select "Delete".
Empty your Recycle Bin, restart the PC again, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time? If so, does iTunes launch properly this time?

  • Cannot install windows, starting to get really pissed off with this PLEASE HELP

ok, i'm starting to get agitated with this.
i cannot install windows XP, 2003, OR Longhorn on my machine.
right now, i have the following setup:
    msi 865pe neo2 motherboard
    intel p4 3.2ghz w/HT (factory HS/Fan currently)
    1 dimm of PC3200 crucial DDR400
30GB maxtor HD plugged into primary IDE
pioneer dvd/cd drive as sencondary IDE
    alps 3.5" floppy drive
    antec true blue 480wt PSU
    i do the following:
    format with maxtor cd
    boot from OS cd
    start setup, reboot, continue
the farthest i can get is 'registering components/completing installation' i either get a blue screen stop error which isnt the same everytime, or it just locks up and doesnt do anything.
ran the memtest checker and get errors on test #4
i had a DIMM of kingston that gave the same errors, so i RMA'd it and got another. same errors, so i RMA'd again and got a Crucial stick. same errors.

yea, i dont plan to run the 250. im gonna wait for the new 480.
thanks for the info about ram timings as well. i havnt gotten any solid answers about what to set it to.
even with new mobo and ram, i'm getting errors in memtest86 #4 test as i always have. i've tried different slots with same problems.
i only have one module because i dont want to waste anymore money on a non-working system. once i get it up and running i'll add another 512.
