Hi guys,
A quick question here that I'm sure everyone will probably get around the same answer for. The question is: If you could move anywhere for broadband in the UK, where would it be?

They want me to take my skills in technology, learn how to do video work, and then create over a hundred 5-10 minute promo videos for use in fundraising and admissions.
Skills in technology doesn't make someone a skilled filmmaker. At least you are getting SOME training with the film/video professor there. But what puzzles me is you getting hired to do VIDEO work when you only have an AUDIO background.
Let me put it in this light...I know video editing and shooting. I can use an Avid and Final Cut Pro, and I was a professional videographer for 2 years when I got out of college. A school just hired me to teach audio editing and to make hundreds of radio spots using ProTools.
See what's wrong there?
If you were starting out in a lower level position, I'd understand this. But to be teaching something you don't know about, and working professionally in a field you are not skilled in, makes no sense to me. Ahhh, academia.
1. What's one thing you wish someone had told you when you got started in video?
Well, when I entered the job market everyone asked me for my demo reel. The college didn't mention anything about this...so I didn't have one, and didn't have access to tools to MAKE one. SO I had to shell out money to rent an Avid for a couple days to make one.
2. What's the most valuable thing YOU would like to impart to a beginner?
Don't be afraid to work for free. This is how you get experience and a reel...and known.
3. What's one piece of equipment I haven't listed that you would like to recommend or what's one piece of equipment I have listed that you think I should reconsider?
LTO tape drive for archiving all that P2 footage.

What I am saying is ..........
The iPhone HAS to be active making calls on the UK carrier network for the carrier to identify as "theirs" and therefore eligible for the Carrier to unlock
The way to achieve this is to use a PAYG sim making and receiving calls to establish a customer relationship with the Carrier and then follow the Carrier's process to unlock
With a PAYG it usually means adding a specified (by the carrier ) amount usually £15 /£20 depending on the carrier
This is how O2 function and according to Gemma this is how Vodafone work

I know your question has been answered by Demo and agree. And I agree that I would stay away from the ipad 3 that was discontinued after only months on the market.
That said, I'm not sure where you were getting an ipad 3 for that cost - a friend, a store, an official reseller? I would be very careful of that.
If you decide to buy a used ipad or even a new 16 gb mini, I strongly suggest you only buy it through Apple's online only certified refurbished store. They come and go as they are refurbished by Apple, so if you see what you want, buy it. An ipad mini 32 gb is now $339 in the refurb store. That's only $20.00 more than you're willing to pay.
Personally, I'd go for the regular sized ipad with more space, but I would pay more if necessary and only buy it at the Apple online refurb store. If you buy an outside ipad, you usually only get the rest of the warranty if any time is still on it. Some resellers do not give any warranty. You might not know if it's been dropped and is working now but might quit soon, etc. You could end up with a demo version from a store, the battery could be on its way out, etc. There have been such stories on here.
Each refurbished ipad and mini comes with a brand new front and back cover, a brand new battery, and a full one year warranty , including 90 days of phone support. It will come in the white box with the charger just as a new one does, with free and fast shipping.
We have had two 64 gb refurbed ipad 2's from the Apple store for almost a year and a half. They have been great!

And you don't get 16gb or 32 gb, etc. Some space is used to run the ios and apps that come with the ipad that are not removable.
Oh. I needed to add that through the refurb store, you'll get it with ios 6 still installed.

If there ever was a program like that - it is over now. Some Apple stores were allowing iPads that had been purchased with the last 30 days to be returned for a refund - extending the usual 14 day return policy - but that has long passed.
You could never exchange the device anyway. You could return it for a refund and then buy another one,

Does anybody remember the demos that came with the Mac OS 7, '95-'96ish? I remember spin doctor, amazon trail, dino tycoon and others being on it. Does anybody remember some colored balls which you could move around on a black background with music?

This music also sometimes sounded erotic (weird, I know). You could attach multiple balls together and they moved like a worm. I also remember, on this same demo a weird, quirky shop where you could buy weird looking pets. If anybody can tell me the names of the games or even better, the demo disk, you would make two sisters trying to remember their youth very, very happy.

For added security you could not ask for the password also the shutdown?

Hi to all,
I wanted to ask if you think it was logical to put the password at the shutdown,
in case of theft the thief would not be able to turn off the device, so that would be easier to track it down
at least until the battery is discharged.

Its really absurd to even ask this in light of the information that you have been given already. The "old fashioned" way is gone. It's Apple's store, Apples's rules and IMO - its a wise decision on Apple's part.
You do not have to comply at all, but you will not be able to purchase from iTunes anymore, but nobody is going to force you to do something that you do not want to do.

Can you manually move files within a folder to put them in a specific order?

I am new to mac, I was wondering if there is an app maybe that you could move files within a folder (ie photos) to make them in a specific order and then rename them, I used to be able to do this with my windows xp..... cant seem to make it happen with my new macbook pro and from what i can gather it cant be done? can it? Thanx in advance.........

In the Finder? You probably have a sort selected in the Sort By submenu in the View menu. However, the order of icons in icon view won't have any influence on the order of the images in the slideshow, I think. Use iPhoto, this is one of the things it's made for, the Finder is not.

Movie downloads for Canadian Ipod owners

Okay I may not be the smartest apple in the cart but I have been trying for a week to be able to purchase and download movies and Tv shows to my computer and then to my Ipod. My husband bought me a 5th Generation so that I could download kids shows and ammuse my son on our frequest flights . Every site I have been on , Itunes, Amazon Video etc etc say I cannot download movies as I am in Canada??????? Can anyone help me out here. If not we just wasted 500.00!!! Thanks!

Really amazing what the human brain can conceive of-a program that downloads large files(ie. TV shows, movies,etc.) from a number of distributed hosts, each with a portion or whole of the file.
Amazing.
One could almost assume you could download content for the iPod from somewhere other than the iTunes store, from somewhere like iPodnova.TV or something like that.

Migrated away and BT still charging for broadband!...

Title says it all really. We applied for our MAC via the BT website and handed it to the new bb supplier who took it up and started our new BB on the 2nd August 2012. Then last week (3 weeks later) the normal BT phone bill is still showing the BB charge as if we were still with BT for BB!
So, phoned the bt listed 0800 number and got the usual Indian call center run around. First they said there was a fault on the line. Then after refusing to accept that as a reason they said the proper transfer process hadn't been followed. Asked for 'Geof's manager and got the same flim-flam. Been using the new service provider for 3 weeks with their supplied equipment and network credentials so how the stuff can BT not even know or recognise this ?! Spoke to a technical person for our new BB provider who said he'd seen this a lot as he recogned that BT just needed to examine their own records in more detail. Very happy with new provider but BT is still a Total Nightmare so now we'll ditch their phone rental as well and complain to OFCOM about these charges.
Oh, and if ANYONE with a modicum of intelligence at BT has any ability to sort this mess out our account number is TH********, you know the phone number to call us on (I presume !).

Multiple movement types for reservation

Dear experts ,
Is it possible to give multiple movement types for issue against reservations? if possible what should be the setting in "Define Movement Types for Material Reservations"
We are trying to issue materials against reservation to different GL accounts based on different movement types.

I think you can have different movement types for GI against an Maintenance Order.
Please check as per the following scenario
Material A with valuation class "400"
material B with valuation class "300"
Now in automatic account determination you define
movement type "990" for valuation class "400" incase of good issue
movement type "890" for valuation class "300" incase of good issue
Now whenever material A is issued it will be mvt type 900 & for material B issue 890.

Using BADI_DIAD_GOODMVT_1, follow-up actions can be triggered for special movement types.

The Ipad is on a short cable to my projector. I am usually on a podium 30 feet away. No infra red receiver on the IPad and
the Iphone remote needs wi fi which is not always available in all the locations I do my teaching and lecturing in.

Just updated to itunes 12.1.0.71 - big problem - can no longer access the legacy "Get Info" where you could change multiple files, easily add artwork, add album name for TV show, and much more. In previous iTunes 12 you'd right click and hold shift key and be able to get to it. Anyone figured this out?

The "legacy" metadata editors, for which there was a "back door" in iTunes 12.0, have gone from 12.1. However, the revised editors in 12.1 provide access to (almost) all the metadata elements that were available in iTunes 11, albeit in a different layout and with some additional constraints based on media kind. Some users have / will have an issue with the statement that "Get Info has been completely redesigned in iTunes 12 to focus your attention only on what’s necessary for the selected item" since that removes some metadata elements that people may have been using in creative ways. iTunes 12.1 basically gives you access to the fields that Apple think are necessary ... . Some of the things that have been excluded by this rule:
track and disc number fields for video media kinds
show and episode fields for music
description tab for audiobooks made up of more than one file
Obviously the first two examples can be regarded as "overloading" the metadata elements - i.e., using them in ways that the designers didn't intend - but given that some users do find valid cases for this it's a shame that they've been deprecated in the new UI. There are couple of workarounds:
in songs view (or any of the other columnar views), you can still select any fields to display, independent of media kind, and these can be edited (though only one at a time) by double-clicking in the relevant "cell"
you can (temporarily) change the media kind of an item (or group of items) to get access to metadata elements that would otherwise be inaccessible.
It may be worth submitting an issue via https://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html - I can't see it as a huge development task to have a user preference to switch between "show all fields" and "filter fields based on media kind".
One other oddity/irritation is that some of the tabs don't, by default, show all the available fields - you need to scroll up/down to access them or to expand the window by dragging on one of its corners. Fortunately, the latter seems to be persistent - once you've done this to make all the fields visible the editor will open at the same (larger) size when opened again.
