If you RESET your N95-8GB you will lose licences t...

For all new people getting the N95-8GB model, just like the N91 and N918GB the pre-loaded content (videos, games, music) is DRM protected. So if you RESET the phone for any reason (*#7370# or three key method) you will lose the DRM lincences and you will not be able to play the content again.
I recommend that the first thing you do after you get your phone out of the box and you power it up is to install PC Suite and make a back up.
This way you will have a back-up of your NEW phone, and later if you run into problems and need to restore the phone to a known good state you will have this back-up.
Cheers!

i've save the movie spiderman 3.dcf and make a back up in my pc, now is it possible to use this back up to another n95 8gb which doesn't have Siderman 3 on them?
thanx...
No because that .dcf file is protected by a key and the key is stored elsewhere. You can backup the key with the Backup to memory card and I think with PC Suite.
For ivor_bigun, you can still backup to the internal memory and then copy the backup directory into your PC. then restore that to the internal memory.Message Edited by jacobsladder on 04-Dec-200703:52 PM

  • AVOID NANO SCREEN FREEZE & RESET--YOU WILL LOSE CURRENT RUN!

I posted earlier today about losing my completed 10 km from my Nano this morning. I have been reading FAQS & Tech Docs for the Nano.
Better try to avoid Nano screen freezes! However, do not blame yourself if the screen freezes. This is a known problem with the iPods. Apple's solution is to tell users to do a reset--no big deal NORMALLY. Yeah, so you have to start a song or video over, not a drama.
But losing your run data? In a race? In a challenge? This is a pretty big deal for most of us who are using the NIke+ Sport Kit. It's not life or death, but you want at least a chance to save your run data and doing a reset will NOT give you that chance.
David Stopher suggested not asking for run data during your runs--basically avoid doing anything that will make multiple demands on your Nano. At the time my 10 km ended, my power song was playing, the voice on the Nano was saying to go to Menu to end the run, and I think Lance or Paula was about to say "Congratulations....." Too much going on for the Nano, I suspect.
This is a longshot, but if you do get a screen freeze, you MIGHT be able to save the run data. Leave the Nano alone until you get home, then open it as a hard-drive on your computer and see if there is a current xml file for the run we are on. This may not work! But it's worth a shot to try to save the current file (if one is there) to your computer. Then upload later to Nike+.
So first try prevention: keep from overtaxing the Nano.
If that doesn't work, try recovery of your xml file.
Meanwhile, send your feedback to Apple & Nike--And yes, I have already sent my feedback to both.

Sounds like you know alot about this. I got my new nano 4G today. I do not have the high 2.0 USB on my computer. I do have it plugged in but it's not showing a battery so I don't know if it's charging or not. It says it's connected and to eject before disconnecting. Do you have to have a 2.0 USB to use this? Thanks

  • Why can't I use Yahoo mail? It won't delete any emails. Google chrome does it right. Fix it or you will lose our business

Yesterday, Aug. 22, Mozilla suffered a massive & complete breakdown in handling Yahoo. Originally I thought it was a virus. I immediately switched to Google Chrome & worked on it w/o difficulty all day long. Yahoo was pushing all data/articles to the left side of the screen. That fixed today, Aug. 23. HOWEVER, the problem with Yahoo mail persists. Out of the blue, it's impossible to delete any Yahoo emails on Mozilla. If you single click to select a list of emails to be deleted, they open automatically. There's no "delete" at the top of the screen to get rid of it. It's very annoying. Somebody's messing with your system (alone). Google Chrome & Microsoft Explorer worked just fine all day. FIX IT!

YES!!! IT WORKED!!! THANK GOD! Mozilla is so much more fun than Google Chrome--- All my bookmarks were saved & my passwords, too! And now my Yahoo Mail is working beautifully again! What a relief!

  • Will resetting your macbook erase files?

Will resetting your macbook erase files?

What do you mean by resetting? Restarting the computer? If you saved your work before doing so then no.
Now, if you are, for example, say currently working on a Pages document and hold the power button down to force the computer to turn off, then yes you will lose the work you were doing in that Pages document if you hadn't save it first.
I hope that answered your question

  • N95 8GB Nokia MAPS System Error

    Guys,
When I try to load the application on my phone, I am getting System error.
I still have a warranty. Do I have to service it or reinstall it myself.
    Thanks

    Hi denskits
Nokia Maps is pre-installed with firmware so perhaps try a "hard reset" after backing up essential phone data in case of software corruption.
As advised previously you could also check with Nokia Software Updater to see whether option to update or re-install existing firmware is present.
There is probably a more recent version of Nokia Maps v2.0_3204 available for your N95 8GB to download here, although whether it will install if problems with original installation is another matter:

  • Nokia N95 8GB Album Art and Album Folders Issue

I have been hunting for for a resolution for two issues with the N95 8GB Media Player all over the web.
    1. Adding artwork (CD Covers) to audio tracks (or albums) seems to be at best hit and miss. Most of the time it just does not work.
    2. Deleting an album delete all the tracks but deleting the album folder seems almost impossible.
Well this weekend I decided to try to solve this and I think I may have hit upon a solution.
Since so may people have the same problem I thought it worth repeating. I would stress this has not been exhaustively tested but it does work reliably so far.
I am using Nokia Music Manager 2.0. The fix is simply to convert the files to AAC rather than to M4A (which is the default). After this simple change everythig worked find for me. I can add and delete albums from Nokia Music Manager 2.0 (don't forget to refresh on the phone afterwards) AND reliably add Album Artwork.
So here is how I have been working.
    1. Set the conversion format to AAC. I have been using 'Ultra high' quality setting. Options Menu >> Setting >> Conversion Tab.
    2. Next put in a CD, select all the tracks and choose copy to my collection.
    3. While this is going on I find the artwork on the Web. A simple Google Image search with the album title and artists last name / band name seems pretty 100% to get the on the first page. Download image to My Documents / My Pictures.
    4. Once the CD Rip is complete they will all appear in My Collection. I select all the tracks in my collection for the album in question, and then right click on one of them and select Edit.
    5. I then attach the Album Artwork by clicking on the blue folder and choosing it from my, MY Pictures folder.
    6. Finally select Copy to Phone from the File Menu.
This has worked for me so far 100% and I have done 20 or so albums.
    NOTES:
To get Nokia Music Manager 2.0 I uninstalled the version of Nokia Phone Suite that came with my phone and went to
http://europe.nokia.com/A4144905I (or seach Google for "nokia phone suite"
I chose the N95 8GB downloaded and installed. At some point shortly after install Phone Suite informed me that there were updates available and Nokia Music Manager 2.0 was one of these.
I was originaly using this and suffered all the problems you guys have. After searching the web and finding no solution I decided to do some experimenting.
    Hope all this helps.
PS If you need to delete all your legacy album folders, this is the fix I found on this same site. You can do this at any time.
    1. Enable the option to be able to see Hidden Files and Folders in your Windows Explorer.
    2. Connect your n95 8gb to your computer and choose data transfer mode.
    3. Go to My COmputer >> Nokia Phone Browser >> Nokia N95 8GB >> Memory Card E:
    3. If you have selected Show Hidden Files and Folders (see 1) you should see a folder called Private.
    4. In the Private folder you need to delete the contednts of three folders
    \private\101FFC31 (mpxv1.mpd and pcv5.mpd)
    \private\101f8857\Cache
    \private\101ffca9
In all the 3 folders delete all the files Not the FOLDER
Next time you restart the music player it will rebuild the indexes without the deleted albums folders.
Hope this helps someone. It restored my sanity.

    Album Art
    Basically there are two methods
    Method 1.
You do it on the phone. Load the album art pictures to the memory card. (Must be JPEG NOT BMP)
    Load also the music files.
Open Music application in the phone. Open an album then select Options->Album art then Options-> Add, browse for the picture and select Ok.
    Repeat for each ALBUM
    Method 2.
You do it on the PC.
Get a Tag editing software like Tag&Rename, WINAMP, etc.
Edit the files Metadata to include Album Art picutres (again they should be jpeg and also they should be set as Cover Front).
Transfer the files that have Album Art using File transfer (usb mass storage) don't use MTP or PC Suite as these methods may convert the files and Album Art will be lost.
Or you can continue using your Method

  • N95 8GB - Devicescape: Hotspot Framework Not Avail...

    Hi
I was cleaning some applications including Demo games, etc., on my new N95 8GB.  By mistake I deleted Hotspot Framework. Now, when I restart a phone I am getting message: "Devicescape: Hotspot Framework Not Available"
    How to reinstall it?

hey, the only way you can install a new language pack is by going to nokia care or talking to your provider about your issue. nokia care will change the language pack for a fee as your phone was not inteneded for the particular region that you want the language from namely poland. it will cost you a fee as this is not generally done, now every time you will update your phone and or reformat it you will lose your langague pack and it will default to the original language pack that the phone came with for your region. make sure that you have receit of purchase if you go to nokia care to get that done but first talk to rogers about your issue.
about the other issue i still have no clue. ..did you try to take the battery out for a few mintues and putting it back in and turning on the phone ? see if something changed?

  • N95 8GB Applications running in background

I have an N95 8GB. I keep getting the message "Gallery, Memory Full. Close some applications and try again."
I have 93.76 mg phone memory free and 7.13 GB memory card free so that shouldn't be a problem.
How do I find out what applications are running as I can't see anything obvious?
    Thanks
    N95 8GB

Pressing and holding the menu button will bring up a list of applications currently running. If you goto, File manager, select Phone memory then Options>Details>Memory will give you a breakdown of how your memory is being used.
Possible fix for this is to reformat your phone using the *#7370# code. If you decide to try this, you will lose all data on your phone so remember to backup. Use OVI suite if you have DRM material you want to preserve.

  • ISync cannot find my handset (N95 8GB)

there is a lot of troubles with contecting N95 8gb to Mac:
    1. iSync is not responding to USB connection, it says: NO DEVICE FOUND
    2. when starting connection with Mac via USB connection, there is info message coming out, "USB CONNECTION IN USE, MASS MEMORY CANNOT BE USED". anyhow transfers are working fine. another thing is when you're done, there is no option in the handset how to end the connection, so logically you do it on computer, you eject the device. then there is info message coming out (for half a second), "DATA CABLE NOW CAN BE REMOVED". is about three seconds later coming second info message telling you "DATA MAY HAVE BEEN LOST. DATA TRANSFERS SHOULD BE STOPPED BEFORE REMOVING CABLE."
data is not lost, but here comes the best bit: i want to listen to music that i put inside, and the music player is just frozen, for around 20 to 30 minutes.
Same thing happens with camera sometimes, you make a pict, then you wanna show it to your mate, review is just frozen, and often happens that you jsut give up to wait for "LOADING" message.

this happens when apps on the phone are using the memory card. for example, if your Messaging app (SMS, MMS, EMAIL) stores its data on the card, rather than internal memory, then you will get this message. make sure all applications are closed before trying to use the card. or use PC Suite mode instead, and use the Nokia Multimedia Transfer application. This application provides access to the memory card through a proxy application on the phone, rather than direct physical access (the proxy is invisible to you, you just drag and drop files, the app on the phone is told where to place the files, it works fine).

the DATA MAY BE LOST message is due to a bug macosx (someone correct me if i'm wrong). i have the SAME PROBLEM with my 8GB thumbdrive. i believe macosx is attempting to poll the device to remount it after i have manually ejected it. i have found that if i wait about 60seconds after unmounting that either 1) it automatically remounts, or 2) if i remove the usb drive, i get no error message.
i am curious about the music player app. on my n95-1, when i push new music onto my phone via Nokia Multimedia Transfer, i have to manually REFRESH to music library. perhaps your n95-8gb is doing this automatically? i only push 600MB of music to my microsd card and it takes a good 5 minutes to refresh, if you are pushing 3GB of music then this behavior makes sense to me (although it is unfortunate the Nokia Multimedia TRansfer doesn't do this for us). i wonder how your phone reacts to uploads from the Nokia Multimedia Transfer app? why would you possibly push music to the phone without using Nok..Mult..Trans..?

i cant disagree with you, but neither can i agree with you. i LOVE my N95-1. some features are not very cleanly implemented - like a race horse that stumbles fairly often, but the leanest fastest most hardcore race horse out there. if you want a smooth ride, i'm sorry. this horse doesn't trot. if you want an exhilarating ride, hold tight, it doesn't l=take long to get accustomed to the stumbles and figure out how to avoid them - then teh ride is fantastic.
    good luck

You must use a computer. There is no way around it for you.

You will have to use recovery mode

  • Advantages of N96 over N95 8GB?

I have looked at the N96 and am wondering what advantages it would really have over the N95 8GB that I currently own. I know that there is more memory and the option to put in a memory card in the N96 but at this point I am not near the limit of my phone's 8GB capacity. The N96 looks a little trimmer but this is at the cost of using a smaller battery with less capacity than the N95 8GB. I understand that there is a potential for watching TV but I have heard that the type of broadcast the N96 is compatible with is not available in most countries (I live in the US).
At this point there don't seem to be enough advantages for me to want to lay out the money to buy the N96 when the N95 8GB works as well as it does, especially as I read about the bugs in the first release.
    Comments anyone?

And, it has Symbian s60 Feature pack 2.
A little slimmer than n95 8gb and a kick stand.
It has 4 media keys play/pause, stop, forward, rewind on the front panel so its more convenient than sliding the other way.
Besides these, i have yet to find out more advantages(you already said the memory part).
I think you should hold on to your n95 8gb, atleast for now, and wait for a couple of months when there are few more firmware upgrades, as those should iron out the bugs in n96.
On a side note: I didnt see n96 as a worthy upgrade to n95 8gb besides the memory part. So i think you should skip on n96.
wht i heard was that the batt. is the same as the N95 with the same capacity..i've upgraded from an N73 so i'm pretty impressed... just a few stability issues which i hope would be dealt with the new firmware update.
