Just because you got that famous "Your activation requires additional time to complete message" doesn't mean they're working on it. I called to find out what the holdup was and they didn't even have record of my account OR any record of my "porting" request for my current phone number (to be transfered from Sprint). They couldn't even find my account.....they had to use my SSN to find SOMETHING. So After LITERALLY three and a half hours of calls, hang-ups and waiting and waiting and waiting in AT&T's queue, I finally spoke to someone that told me "a lot of the requests are being processed incorrectly" and that "they hired a lot of people recently to handle what they knew was coming". I suggest calling and making sure they have your request with ALL your info in their system. If I had not called who knows WHEN it would have been taken care of.

Hi, I just downloaded iBooks and I downloaded a book but i wanted to get the hunger games one and they dont Havre it so I erased the app and when I wanted to download another one it just says waiting and it does nothing , CAN YOU HELP ME!
Don't know if there is an option make the download window stay up, but you can bring it back with Ctrl+J then right-click on the download to open the folder it was downloaded to.

Does iPhoto not have safeguards against accidentally deleting an entire photo book, which is very easily done with a single press of delete (and which can be done when you think you are deleting just a photo)? No "are you sure you want to delete?" before it happens? No way of copying your book while you are working on it (to make multiple versions of it, or just to have a safeguard copy), and no real way of restoring it after (since, remarkably, the photo books don't appear as items - items which could very easily be recovered otherwise)?
I get a dialog box when I try to delete a book.
And if you right click on the book in the left column you can duplicate it so you can have multiple versions. -

I want to get the new iPhone 5s right when it comes out. I was just wondering what you guys thought. There's really no way anyone can even guess, since we have no idea what sort of stock will be available and how Apple will distribute it. It's not impossible that your local Verizon store will not have any units at all on the first day, or they could have a quantify. We just can't know. If your Verizon store can't give you some idea, you'll just have to make your best guess. Note that people are already lining up at Apple Stores in at least a couple of cities according to reports, and started doing so earlier this week.

There are NO viruses that affect a Mac running OS X - none. FWIW, I suggest that you NOT buy A/V software. It is a waste of both money and computer resources.
Having said that, there are a couple of instances of malware that have popped up. Just don't follow links from unknown sources.

I do wish the cloud standard price changes to 29.99 a month for all users so everyone gets a chance to enjoy the cloud.I just downloaded CC, and still have all my CS6 apps as backup. Bridge CC (64-bit) is showing the same unacceptable performance I had with CS6 version. Can't believe that Adobe is so inept. I did fix the CS6 version but I forget how I did it. CS6 version of Bridge is near instantaneous. And it's not a matter of building the cache. It takes the program forever just to respond to a simple mouse click in the menu bar.
Photoshop CC crashed my machine, whereas CS6 version runs perfectly. Afraid to download any further apps.
Adobe 11 failed to install because it think's prior version of the that program is still on the computer. I never installed Acrobat 11 on this machine. Just Acrobat 10, which also got the stupid 30-day "refuse to start" bug, so I'm using Acrobat 9.5 which works flawlessly. Funny how the newer the code from Adobe, the worse it gets for its customers.

Hi there, I have just bought my first ipad4 and have spent all weekend trying to connect to the internet. I have tried all Apple suggestions to no avail
. My Netgear DG834g router is a few years old now. Do you think this may be the problem? Do they have compatibility issues after a while? My ipad upgrade is IOs 6. I am at a loss what else to do and needless to say extremely frustrated!
Thanks.First check that your router has its latest firmware.
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app

• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

I really like the retina display on the ipad (4th gen) but I also like the portability of the ipad mini. Do you think it's worth waiting for the ipad (5th gen) or do you think it will still be significantly less portable than a mini despite it being thinner.
There is always a new model coming out, for better or worse. Which means if you always hold out for the newest and 'best' you'll always be waiting.

There is an issue with the way you do your verifications - the user can never get out unless they answer 'y' or hit CTRL+C. Something like this gives them options:

One last thing I try to do in scripts... Declare all your binaries as variables at the start of the program, then execute the binary program by using the variable. For example:

This way, it's easy to change the path in future without having to hunt through the script if the paths change, and it also ensures you're calling the programs using the full paths to make sure you're not executing some strange variant or alias that someone has setup. If I use `chmod` 30 times in a script, and the path changes in the future or on a different system (`chmod` is a bad example cause it's highly unlikely to change, but you know what I mean), then all you need to do is update the variable at the start of the script, and it all works again without having to script-hunt and change it 30 times. -
On the webpage it says you must prove your purchase with a copy of your receipt but it never gave me the option to attach it to the request so I am thinking they are unable to verify my MacBook was purchased after 6/11. Also, when I went to re-request my free copy of ML it said my Serial Number was already redeemed. Should I contact support or just wait it out?
I think it is all messed up. Many of us are in the same boat. I'm patiently waiting to hear something from Apple.

Wrt Paul Davis, he seems to get $4-5k/month now so things are looking up a bit for him. Who's to blame if the community isn't able to come up with enough support for it's prime members? Also, there are parts of the world where you can live rather comfortably on $4k/month. You just have to beware of the dragons ;-)
Open Source is a lot like socialism: work as hard as you can, get as much as you need. In theory, it could work: some would eat 2x the avg but work 5x the avg while others would be the other way round. In practise ... People are lazy, people are evil.
Why should they pay for sth if they don't have to? Why should they be interested in GNU / Linux? Because it's free? Hey, I've got tons of "free" apps, piracy ahoy! (Or should I say "arrrrr")
Maybe that's the reason many 'big names' went to work for Microsoft: their dignity didn't allow them to beg for support. -
I am going to sell my second generation ipod touch, so i resetted it to factory defaults. It said it would take up to an hour, and i patiently waited. But when the black and white loading bar completed, the ipod went to the black screen with an apple logo on it. Sounds about right, right? But now, there is a processing circle on top of the logo, but the circle spins once, and stops at about halfway to the bottom. It just stays there, and about every half to one hour it becomes a white screen and starts all over again. (not the loading bar part, just the circle). I've tried holding the power and the home button, and it works, but it just goes back to the circle screen with the apple logo. HELP PLEASE?
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. -

Take care about the failed login attempts. If you set it to 10 to the default profile, and if your DBSNMP password is NOT the default password, then Oracle will lock your account after node discovery!
In Solaris, you can disable execution of the user stack with the system parameters set noexec_user_stack=1
set noexec_user_stack_log=1. I did not find how to do it on AIX. However, those settings may have side effects.
About the ports, it complains about open ports, even if this is the port oracle listener is using! Simply ignore most of the violations there.
About JAccelerator (NCOMP), it is located on the "companion" CD.

What is the point of revoking UTL_FILE from PUBLIC? Yes I know what you think the point is, but without rights on an Oracle DIRECTORY being able to execute UTL_FILE is useless. Unless of course you're still using the init.ora parameter

As for UTL_SMTP and UTL_TCP, I think whether a program is allowed to send e-mail to a given SMTP server is really in the remit of the e-mail adminstrator rather than the DBA.
Look, DBAs are kings of their realm and can set their own rules. The rest of us have to live with them. A couple of years ago I worked a project where I was not allowed access to the USER_DUMP_DEST directory. So every time I generated a TRC file I had to phone up the DBA and a couple of hours later I got an e-mail with an attachment. Secure yes, but not very productive when I was trying to debug a Row Level Security implementation.
I have worked on both sides of the DBA/Developer fence and I understand both sides of the argument. I think it is important for developers to document all the privileges necessary to make their app run. Maybe you don't have a better way of doing that than revoking privileges from PUBLIC. Or maybe you just want to generate additional communication with developers. That's fine. I know sometimes even DBAs get lonely.
