If you were to replace your Thinkpad battery...

...would you purchase a "genuine OEM" replacement or one of the aftermarket units. I know an OEM replacement is more expensive but if the quality, performance, and reliability is significantly better it would be worth it to me. If the best option is to purchase an aftermarket unit, is there a concensus on which vendor from out of the multitudes online sells the best quality battery.
I ask because normally I try to maintain OEM configuration when replacing parts whether on my auto, appliance, or electronic device but I have seen more than one comment where it was stated that the newer OEM batteries don't seem to be as good as they were a couple years ago?
thanks for any feedback
*Smith & Wesson...the original point and click interface*

the quality of aftermarket batteries are inconsistent and some of them are made with parts sourced from places that doesn't have much QA, as such if the battery did burst into flame or cause any damage to the laptop, you would have a legal leg to stand on. As such it is better to use the OEM battery just to be sure.

• Read this if you want to replace your CD/DVD

The best replacement is the Pioneer DVR-110blk (the blk stand for black), it writes 56x CD-R, CDRW, DVD-R, 16x DVD+R, 16x Dual Layer & DVD-RAM.
It is recognised by OSX 10.4 & works best using the latest Roxio Toast ( it also recognised by itunes & can be used in iDVD using a small program called patchburn - http://www.patchburn.de/ )
To install the drives use this guide:
http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/systems/iMacg4/imacg4takeapart.html
The reason I recommend this drive is that it is very reliable & fast - I have burnt DVD's (2gb-4gb) in 2-4 minutes. It is also quite easy to make it region free by using a program called DVRFlash & new region free firmware - discussion & downloads can be found here:
http://forum.rpc1.org/viewforum.php?f=30
So for about £35 (www.dabs.com) you do truly get a Superdrive.
PS You need a Philips screwdriver, Torx screwdriver & Thermal Grease!
iMac G4 800mhz 17" 1GB ram Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Hey PROvider,
What is the difference in the DVR-110D, and the DVR-110 ? Isn't the DVR-110DBK the same as the DVR-110D except its black and not beige?
Also, on this site: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/optical-drives/superdrives/powermac/
It lists the DVR-110D & DVR-110DBK as writing 40X CD, 16X DVD, and 8X DVD-DL. You mentioned 56X CD and 16X DVD & DVD-DL.
Is the DVR-110BK (the one you mentioned) different than the DVR-110DBK and why do you recommend the black over the beige?
Thanks,

• Toshiba Satellite L675 - Consider Replacing Your Battery

Good morning all. I was hoping to get some direction here. I just got a prompt yesterday via Windows that my computer (purchased five years ago) is fully charged (100%), but that I should consider replacing my battery. It also says "There is a problem with your battery, so your computer might shut down suddenly." I did notice the last few days that it had been draining too quickly. What is the worst thing that can happen when this problem arises? I don't travel with it, so as long as I keep it plugged in, is this an issue that (really) needs immediate attention? I just got laid off, so I'm trying to triage my expenses here. If the computer will be fine as long as it is plugged in, I'd rather deal with incurring this expense later. However, if a battery problem might impact the functionality of the rest of the computer, I'll look into getting a new battery. Any input/advice would be appreciated. Thanks so much. Kim

You can ease your mind. As long as you keep it plugged In, there will be no harm to your computer. If you were to use your computer on battery and it drained to the point that the computer turned itself off, there COULD be a problem.

• HT6061 Where can you get a replacement 512 SSD drive for these? Can you get one directly from Apple?

Looking to purchase the original 512 ssd drive that comes in the late 2013 mac pros.. i cant find anywhere online but Ebay to buy one from. Are they available directly from Apple?

Apple does not sell the SSD parts separately to my knowledge. If your SSD is defective and was an original Apple item, any Apple Store or authorized Apple service provider can replace it. They won't sell you the part so you can do your own repair, though.
Why would you need to replace yours when your Mac is still in warranty? Are you trying to upgrade? If so, I don't know of any available as of this time, though OWC says they'll have SSD upgrades for the 2013 MP later this year.

• Do You Know Your iPod Battery May Fall Under Warranty Replacement?

I have the extended warranty on my iPod Touch. My batter life was horrible... without wifi just playing music getting just over 3 hours. I also had a bad MBP battery. Called up AppleCare and got case numbers for both after diagnosis. Was taking a long drive to an Apple Store with Genus appt the next day...
My name was called and my Genus re-ran the MBP battery check finding it at fault and went to replace it... I said that I was having an issue with the Touch battery as well. He said "You know that the battery is NOT covered under warranty!". I said NO, if a battery is faulty that it is covered under warranty. I told him that it was THE reason that I purchased the warranty... He argued with me about it and I just couldnt believe my ears... I said that all he had to do was go to the Apple site and find the Touch battery warranty description... He started printing out the MBP battery replacement agreement and we had another video test to run on the MBP... he went in the back to get a DVD.
As I sat there I started hearing all the genus say to every customer with a iPod battery issue say that battery replacement cost blah blah blah... no one was asked if they had a warranty or that if the battery was found to be faulty the battery replacement would be covered. One guy came in with his son saying the iPod was a Christmas present and the battery was only getting blah blah hours... Again, he was told that a battery replacement would cost $$$. It was surely under warranty but he was still charged! ***?
My Genus comes back and runs the video test with a Howdy Doody DVD, UGH... anyways... he goes back to return the DVD and comes back with something in his hand, unwraps a Touch and tosses it my way. I asked him what was up? He says that the original Touch battery is not replaceable so here was a new one. I said OK... thinking, why was he giving me one after arguing with me about the battery NOT being under warranty???
So, I guess it pays off to know your warranty with Apple products as the Genus wont offer the facts. Maybe this was just at the Cleveland OH Apple Store. So, wondering if you know that your iPod battery may fall under warranty and if this is a national fraud by Genus?
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB591LL/A#overview "3. Service coverage is available for battery depletion of 50 percent or more from original specification."

According to this page -> http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipod
Will the data on my iPod be preserved?
No. You will receive a replacement iPod that will not contain any of your data, songs, etc. Before you submit your iPod for service, it is your responsibility to keep a separate backup copy of the data stored on your iPod and reinstall that data. Please do not send any accessories with your iPod as they will not be returned.
Attention iPod touch customers: Before obtaining service, it is important to back up your data using iCloud or iTunes. Apple is not responsible for the loss of information while servicing your iPod touch and does not offer any data transfer service.
Following service your replacement iPod touch may have a newer operating system (iOS) version and you will need to restore your data using the method used to back it up (iCloud or iTunes). As a result, you may also need to update your App Store applications to ensure compatibility with the newer iOS. If you experience a problem with an application purchased from the App Store, check iTunes to see if an update is available or contact the application vendor directly.

• Is it safe/smart to replace your iPhone 5c battery without a professional?

A Couple months ago, I purchased a blue iPhone 5c. Everything was okay except for the battery life. Certain apps I use kill my battery. At any given moment, my battery percentage will go from 100% to 1%. Should I change the battery or buy a new iPhone?

Make an appointment at the genius bar and get the battery replaced by Apple (they will test it and tell you if the problem is the battery or something else).
Apple does not sell iPhone parts. It is not possible for you to buy a genuine, new iPhone battery to install yourself. You can buy stolen parts, salvaged parts, or counterfeit parts. That's it. If you attempt to replace the battery yourself, Apple will not touch your phone under any circumstances, either in or out of warranty, ever again.

• Re: Satellite A300-1EI: Windows 7 "consider replacing your battery

I have my Toshiba two years.
I bought it witch Vista, but I install to Windows XP.
Laptop worked very good. In December 2009, I decided to install Windows 7.
All drivers were available so I done it. Windows 7 worked perfect to yesterday.
I have a communique from Windows 7 "consider replacing your battery" and laptop works on battery too short.
Before this problem I could works 1 hour and 45 min. Now it is 15-30 min.
I read in some forums in Internet that Windows 7 damage laptop's battery. Is it true?
Is there any idea to repair it?
I afraid to buy new battery if windows 7 damage it too. Thanks for your help.
P.S.
Sorry for my low English.

Hi
The Windows 7 has recognized that your battery performance it too low and that battery needs to be replaced.
Please take a look here:

As mentioned in this Toshiba document, this Microsoft this message is correct and the battery is really end of life (<40%).
Seems its time for a new battery

• If you lose your phone and you get a replacement . does you imei number change? or do they keep it the same as your old one?

if you lose your phone and you get a replacement . does you imei number change? or do they keep it the same as your old one?

Hi
Every handset has a unique series of identifiers, one of which is the IMEI number, so if you exchanged the handset (for example if it was not working & you were still under warranty) your new handset would have a new IMEI number.
What Apple do though is if you formally exchange your handset (again, under warranty etc) then they record the change on their system, but also give you a sticker which is meant to attach to the original box. That way, if you come to sell the handset, you have a proper record of why the IMEI number on the handset is different from the IMEI number on the box.

How long would the battery last if you were usinng it for wireless msn around the house..
Thanks,
Andrew

I never get less than 3 1/2 hours and generally get a bit over 4 hours on a fully charged battery. Before unplugging I make sure BlueTooth and sound is off, the backlight is set as low as I can stand it, I have no disc in the drive, and all the applications and files I intend to use are running and loaded. The three biggest juice eaters are the display's backlight, the hard drive and optical drive so I minimize the use of all three while unplugged.
Are Mac notebooks tough? A couple quick stories: I dropped my G3 iBook off my desk and it hit the concrete floor on its corner breaking off a large piece of plastic. I fashioned a fiberglass bandage and used the computer for 3 months before finding a functional used shell. A customer came in with a horrifically bent PowerBook last summer - it fell out of his motorcycle sidebag while he was driving (35 MPH) and was run over by at least 1 car. It booted up and the display while bent by the mangled case still worked. I actually used Migration Assistent to move his stuff to the new computer. A student brought me his MacBook which he'd dropped down half a flight of stairs at the college. It had been in a lightly padded sleeve. It looked banged up - there were some fractures to the bottom case and the hinge squealed terribly as I opened it. But the computer woke up and it checked out okay. AppleCare basically replaced everything but the innards - the guy's home insurance covered all but the deductible which was a good thing - that is an expensive repair! Would the typical PC survive these accidents? Well, I know from experience the cheap plastic Dell and HP models wouldn't.

• What did you replace your wireless mighty mouse with?

I am not happy with mine. What mouse did you replace yours with?

I've got an MX1000, I'll agree that it's quite nice. You may want to look around at Logitech's line. The MX1000 uses RF instead of bluetooth to transmit, though Logitech does offer a line of bluetooth mice. However, I've found that the bluetooth mice tend to be overpriced and lacking some features of their RF counterparts.
Currently, the top of the line Logitech cordless mouse is called the G7. It works much like the MX1000 (with a laser instead of LED) but runs at a higher DPS. It also includes two battery packs with an external charger so that you can use the mouse while charging a battery pack. I'm not sure of the price for the G7, but you should be able to find a MX1000 for $40-$50 US.

• "Consider replacing your battery" - Satellite Pro C650

Hi,
I recently sent an email to [email protected] to try and sort out a possible battery / battery reading problem on my Toshiba Satellite C650 that I have owned for under a year (is therefore covered under warranty).
Yesterday, I received a follow up call from the Toshiba computer technical support number and was asked to conduct a few tests to see whether they would resolve the problem:
1) Check whether the BIOS version was up to date, which it was (_BIOS version 2.00_) as confirmed by clicking F2 on start up.
2) Uninstall the old version of the program "Toshiba Value Added Package" then go to the mytoshiba.com.au site, enter the laptop model/part number and _download the latest Value Added Package_, followed by a reboot.
I was provided with a reference number to call back with in case these tests didn't fix the problem, however, I do not have a fixed phone where I am and rely on calling with a mobile phone (which is quite costly, especially when being put on hold). I was hoping to receive some sort of help on these forums.
*As the tests did not fix the problem I was encountering, where do I go from here?*
Any help is appreciated, thanks.
Here are some of the finer details regarding the problem: {pasted from an email I sent to customer relations}
"From what I can tell, the AC adaptor (charger) works fine since it is able to charge the lithium-ion battery that the laptop came with and the orange light at the front of the laptop indicates that the adaptor is plugged in and is charging). However, recently whenever I unplugged the AC adaptor, I received a notice when I clicked on the battery meter icon on the desktop. It says: "Consider replacing your battery. There is a problem with your battery, so your computer might shut down suddenly." There is also a red cross that appears over the battery icon. Despite what the notification says, it appears that the problem may be more complex than that.
Today, I noticed that despite the AC adaptor not being plugged in and the battery meter reading "0%", the laptop did not shut down or hibernate - it remained working. Other times, the battery meter will warn me that there is little charge left and shuts down (sometimes only after 15 minutes). Before I received the notification of "Consider replacing your battery", the laptop battery would last at least 1½ hours without having the AC plugged in. I have also had this laptop less than a year and taken good care of the battery, allowing it to discharge every so often then recharging it after. It makes little sense that the battery now lasts 15 minutes or less.
Since the battery meter was apparently at 0% and did not shut down this evening, I suspect that the problem may have something to do with the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery or at least the device that reads the battery charge. From my observations, it seems to be misjudging the % of charge and therefore sometimes shuts down prematurely, even though there is more charge remaining than estimated.
I have been following some of the Toshiba support forums (online) and other computer help forums and this ‘battery/battery reading' issue seems to be something a number of other laptop users have/are experiencing, especially when a user installs a Windows 7 operating system on a laptop that was bought with a preinstalled Windows XP operating system. I would like to emphasise that this laptop came with a preinstalled Windows 7 operating system and I have not changed operating systems at any time.
I have also read that users with this problem, in some cases attempted to fix the notification of "Consider replacing your battery" by following the notifications advice and buying a new battery fitted to their exact laptop model but apparently it did not resolve."

>I have also read that users with this problem, in some cases attempted to fix the notification of "Consider replacing your battery" by following the notifications advice and buying a new battery fitted to their exact laptop model but apparently it did not resolve."
Well, in my opinion you should definitely try a new battery.
If all the updates (BIOS, VAP, etc) didnt help then a new battery should be tested. Of course it would be better to test this before purchasing a new battery so maybe you have to get in contact with an ASP in your country and have to clear this in direct contact with agent.
You said that the warranty is valid therefore the notebook should be fixed free of charge. But you should consider that battery is covered by warranty one year long.

I get this pop up when trying to create a photo book through the iPhoto store.
"Some or all of the photos you selected were downloaded from your published albums. You can only view these photos. To use them in an album or a slideshow or project, you must import them to your photo library."
The photos I have selected have already been imported so how and why do I do it all over again?
What do they mean by published albums? I categorize them into photo albums for organizational purposes after I import them from my camera or phone. So why can't I put them into a book now?
I have over 400 photos selected for a photo book for my child's graduation gift so how can I tell which photos I have to do this to?
Please help. Any insight wouyld be appreciated.
Confused and frustrated...

Give this a try: apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
