The iPod does not need to be turned off to reset it. Here are the instructions for resetting the ipod. If this fails to do the trick you may want to try and do a restore.

  • Ipod nano wont turn off?!

    Hi. (:
I can't get my Ipod to turn off. The display is still onm but it wont play. Its like its frozen. please help!?

Sorry, that wasn't exactly helpful was it. Hopefully yours is recoverable. Eventually it will pass out from battery exhaustion and then you can plug it into your conmputer. Start itunes. I migth take 30 minutes before it appears as on icon on your computer. Make sure you have the latest ipod updater software. Once the icon appears on your itunes go ahead and restore. You WILL lose all our your songs on your ipod if they are backed up in your itunes library. After restoring load it again with your music and see if it happens again. Hopefully that will solve it.

PS make sure your hold button is released or itunes and your computer will not recognize it at all.

  • Ipod Nano , wont turn off ,displaying "charging" icon instead

    Hey y'all
ive been using this ipod nano for a while now,no problems
recently updated it to the newest firmware
anyhow it doesnt turn off now, instead when the stop button is pressed for a few seconds, the screen goes blank then the "charging" icon appears even when the ipod is disconnected
also, when the ipod is working the battery meter doesnt show,
and the "charging" icon is displayed instead
i tried restoring the ipod a few times,no effect
    any ideas?

Hi, my ipod nano has exactly the same problem---won't turn off, shows the big charging icon instead, even after resetting it many times, and successfully restoring/updating the firmware to v1.2. It plays music fine, but it won't shut off.
What ever happened at repair shop, did they say what is wrong? Maybe I have to send mine to a repair shop too.
    Thanks

  • 6th generation iPod nano automatically turns off when I push het sleep/wake button or when screen turns black after a while. How can I solve this ?

My 6th generation iPod nano automatically turns off (=stops the music) when I push het sleep/wake button or when screen turns black for power saving mode. Does anyone know how to solve this ?
I have already tried resetting, connecting to PC/iTunes to check the software version, turning off/on, I don't have any inspiration anymore.
    Thanks for your suggestions!

    Hi VeerleD,
If your iPod touch unexpectedly powers off, you may want to use the steps in this article to troubleshoot -
iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting (The steps apply for the iPod touch) -
    Specifically -
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,

The iPod Nano battery will not charge unless you connect it to your computer, to an AC outlet with a wall adapter, a charging dock or an auto adapter/dock.
You battery is always discharging when idle or shut off.  You should read the manual for your model iPod Nano regarding batteries - iPod Manuals

  • Does iPod nano automatically turns off if not used in 2 minutes?

Does iPod nano automatically turns off if not used in 2 minutes?
this is the questions tha runs my mind bcoz I just bought it about 2 weeks ago and just this recently I noticed that it automatically switches off after 2 minutes if remained untouched even if i did not set the sleep mode. Well, it normally functions coz during playing a song it does not sleeps but by the time pausing the song and after two minutes the nano switches off, but if you press any key it goes back again and you can play the paused song again. is this thing normal? i am really bothered by this. please help me THANKS A LOT

I recently bought a 2nd Generation 8Gb iPod Nano and can state for a fact that if you pause a song for exactly two minutes the device will turn off, probably to save batttery power. I tested it three times already and clocked it.
However, I also noticed that my iPod also seems to turn off by itself (even when sleep / timer is not selected) when I'm shuffling through songs using the forward/next and/or rewind/back buttons repeatedly.
Is this normal, or just a bad coincidence?
I've tried the 5 Rs but the problem persists. It really annoys me because I have the habit of skipping lots of songs.

  • 30GB ipod video wont turn off

all of the sudden after a month of having my ipod video, it wont turn off
any idea what to do? will resetting it even help??
it plays music just fine and nothing wrong with the connection to my computer

Like the guy said, different levels. You only have to hold down Pause, and then the system goes into Sleep mode. The problem is that you probably moved your finger when the button was pressed. Don't. Keep your finger still on the button. This happened to me oh so many times
Otherwise, add a Sleep item to your Main Menu. Hold down Menu for a few seconds to go back to the Main Menu. Go to Settings > Main Menu. Scroll down to "Sleep", and turn it on. Now go back to the Main Menu, and choose the Sleep option.

  • 7th gen ipod nano wont turn on or connect to laptop

  • My Ipod Nano wont turn on but it is detected by itunes?

I plug my ipod in and itunes detects it with everything thats on it. But I can not get the screen to turn on and manual resteting it didnt do anything. Im not sure what the issue could be.

If your iPod nano has a Hold switch, make sure it is not in the ON position.  Even if it is OFF, try moving it to ON and then OFF again, to see if that makes any difference.
If you did this to Reset it
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1320
that's a good thing to try.  If you do not see the Apple logo on the screen immediately after the Reset, the likely cause is a faulty screen.  Even if the iPod has a problem like data corruption, the Reset should still make the screen come on initially.  Since the iPod appears in iTunes, the rest of the iPod seems to still work properly.
You can try doing a Restore on the iPod in iTunes, but it probably will not help because the screen does not come on at all.  The Restore button is on the iPod's Summary screen in iTunes.  This erases the iPod, re-installs its software, and sets it to default settings.
I don't know which model you have, but if it is less than one year from purchase, it is under warranty.

  • Ipod nano wont turn on!!! Please help I'am desperate! :(

By mistake, i dropped my ipod on the floor and seconds later i tried turning it on and it wont turn on at all. I tried restoring it by pressing the menu and select button and i toggeled with the hold button for several minutes. I got this ipod a year ago ,but my 1 year apple warrenty just expired and the "apple operator" led me to this discussions web site. The screen is not cracked or chipped, but it simply wont turn on!! When i plug my ipod into the computer, itunes doesn't not show up and when i open(itunes) it manually it stays the same. Also, i tried charging it overnight and the ipod still wont turn on. Someoen said i have to buy another battery for the ipod?? ( I have no idea!) Any suggestions?? Should i just buy another one?
    Your help is greatly appreciated!!
    Thank you!!!

I'd say that the iPod is toast.
Easiest thing at this point would be to get the iPod repaired through Apple ($99), or to get a new unit.

  • My ipod nano 6 turns off when it fades to black

Whenever i try listen to my music, and leave my ipod alone it turns off when it fades to black. I tried using the Wake Sleep button but it stops my music and fades to black. I've looked in setting to find a way to change that but haven't been able to. How do i prevent this from happening?

Nevermind, i figured it out. The headphone needs to be all the way in the port. No shiny part, i was scared of breaking it so didnt think it went all the way in.

  • IPod Nano wont turn on

I have had my Ipod nano for about 2 yrs , and i take good care of it: but suddenly one day it works then the next i cant even turn it on. I have attempted to charge it in a few docks but nothing happens, it is just dead. I have tried all the reset techniques but to no avail. My computer doesnt register it there either.
can anyone help with this issue plese?

I got angry after about 3 hours of messing with it and then was tempted to swing my ipod like a lasso until it hit my tv on accident, all that did was give a nice dent in the back of it, but hey it actually turned on haha but it was still frozen
    - like a light tap sideways should work, happened to me a few times, as if your trying to set off the flash off in an old camera, but don't be to mean to it geeze :S. then try to do the hold ( menu + >= ) should start up enough to get windows or mac to recognize it.
after i got it to start i got a program called EphPod, my savior .
    - plug it into the computer and start EphPod
    - it cracks the ipod software and sets it at factory defults again (not trying to talk about other software btw, just happens to solve this problem)
    - then shutoff EphPod and go into iTunes, reinstall and updated ipod software. only had to do it like twice so far.

  • Ipod video wont turn off

my ipod is a 30gb video and it does everything but turn off. i have reset it and tried everything. the pause button works but it wont hold to turn off. help please

I've noticed something if you have your iPod in a dock while hooked up through USB to the computer. If the computer is on, you cannot just take the iPod out of the dock or it will not turn off. This can also lead to songs skipping for no reason while you try to play them. The thing you need to do is open iTunes and hit the eject button on your iPod. Then when it disappears from the list of devices in iTunes, you can take it off the dock and it should be good to go.
But if you've got it in a bad/screwed up cycle, the first thing you should do is reset it (as you've done before, but you need to do it immediately before opening iTunes and ejecting it). Reset it, then open iTunes with the iPod connected, eject it, and you should be good to go. I had the same problem a while back and realized that I was just being careless. Once the iPod is into a "good" cycle from doing this, if it's not hooked up to a computer that is turned on, it should turn off just fine. But the second you hook it up to an "on" computer, you either need to shut the computer down before removing the iPod from the dock or you need to eject the iPod from iTunes as I've detailed above.
