If your iTunes/Quicktime will not open CLICK HERE!!!

Ok so I too have been struggling on how to make iTunes/Quicktime work and i have finally fixed the problem.
1. Uninstall iTunes and Quicktime then restart.
2. Once you have restarted download and run the Windows Cleanup utility and remove anything that has anything to do with iTunes/Quicktime.
3. Delete The Quicktime, iTunes, and iPod folders from ur Program Files.
4. Delete Quicktime and Quicktime VR from the system 32 folder
5. Open Drive C: and there is a Quicktime file there delete that.
6. Pretty much you mus remove EVERY LAST file/folder that has to do with iTunes/Quicktime.
7. Download the stand-alone Quicktime installer.
8. Open Quicktime and if u have followed all the procedures correctly Quicktime should open.
9. Next download and install iTunes and then your are all done.
I did this yesterday and it worked perfectly.
Reply if u have any questions

excellent news. glad you're up and running again.
here's what was probably going on. since itunes and quicktime (and ituneshelper) are internet applications, your Firewall will be keeping an eye on modifications to those programs. typically a new set of rules is generated for the new versions of the applications. so it's possible for the Firewall to allow the earlier version of the application, but balk at the newer one (because there's different sets of rules for each one).
so if you run into this sort of thing again after an upgrade, try checking through the exceptions that you firewall has set up for those new versions of the applications.

  • ITunes/Quicktime will not open

So iTunes 7.02 and whatever the latest quicktime is will not launch at all. If I launch them they'll show up in task manager, but will never open. Ending task does nothing but cause my comp to go completely unstable (won't shut down/reboot except with a hard shutdown, can't go to add/remove programs, explorer is f'd up and won't close and reopen itself, etc). Also, trying to launch either of them prevents me from opening new programs or shutting down.
I've scoured the web and itunes support and haven't found a solution that works for me.
    So far I've...
1)uninstalled itunes/quicktime, deleted all files (except for itunes preferences/playlists), rebooted and reinstalled.
2)uninstalled itunes/quicktime, reboot, installed quicktime 6.4, reboot, unistalled quicktime, reboot, reinstalled itunes/quicktime 7+
3)uninstalled itunes/quicktime, delete all itunes/quicktime files, reboot, installed quicktime standalone, installed itunes.
4)uninstalled apple software updater, and redid #3.
    5) uninstalled quicktime and itunes, rebooted, removed itunes preference files from both application data folders, reinstalled.
And tried some of the above a few more times.
There were no hardware/software changes, this just started happening two days ago. Plugging in my shuffle will charge it but iTunes won't launch (except in task manager).
I don't have Norton/McAffee (that was creating a problem for some people). I'm using windows firewall and it is already an exception. Current anti-virus is AVG 7.5, I have all the security updates including SP2.

  • Itunes or quicktime will not open

I just purchased ipod and I downloaded itunes. at first it worked correctly, then it stopped opening and quicktime will not open either. I have tried re-installing numerous times to no avail. All the error message says unknown error send or don't send to MS. I am starting to get frustrated over this. It has taken up so much time. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME????

Hi Dave. Many thanks for your response. I uninstalled iTunes and Quicktime and then reinstalled them and now I can open iTunes. I now have another problem. The music that is on my iPhone that was imported from my iTunes prior to resetting my Mac seems to be unavailable for me to play. It doesn't show up on my iPhone when it's not connected. But when I connect it to my Mac all the songs show up under the music tab of my iPhone but they are all light grey and when I click one an exclamation mark appears next to it. I've tried authorizing my account but that doesn't do anything.
If you have any idea what the problem could be I would really gratefull.

  • HT1420 My Itunes Library will not open at all. the icon will spin when i click on it but it won't open

My Itunes Library will not open at all. When I click on Itunes the icon spins and nothing will pull up.

Try resetting your device. Hold down the sleep and home keys, ignoring the red power down slider, and release the buttons when you see hte silver apple. Let it reboot and try again.
You won't lose any data, it's juat the apple equivalent of 'control/alt/delete' and often clears up glitches

  • QuickTime will not open (Windows 7 64-bit OS)

I have the latest version of iTunes with QuickTime installed. I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes with QuickTime several times. iTunes opens fine, but QuickTime will not open. It used to open fine about a month ago, but will not now, I have no idea what changed on my computer to cause this problem. When I try to open it, the Quicktime icon appears at the bottom of the screen in the Windows 7 taskbar, but no window opens on the screen. I have a Windows 7 64-bit operating system. Has anyone seen this before or had any success correcting this problem? Thank you, Josh

When I try to open it, the Quicktime icon appears at the bottom of the screen in the Windows 7 taskbar, but no window opens on the screen
That's consistent with a QuickTime display preference gone bad, josh.
If that's what is afoot, rebuilding the QuickTime preferences can help, although it can be a bit of a trial to track them down on the 64-bit systems.
Close any of the QuickTime Player buttons that are currently in your taskbar.
Now we need to change some view settings on the PC. (The preferences are kept in hidden folders.)
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected.
    Click OK.
Next we'll navigate to your AppData folder.
In Computer, open Local Disk C:\ or whichever drive your user documents are stored on.
    Open the "Users" folder.
Open the folder with the name of the Windows User account in which the QuickTime Player isn't displaying properly.
    Open the "AppData" folder.
Now the hunt for the QuickTime preferences begins.
    Open the "Roaming" folder.
    Open the "Apple Computer" folder.
Do you see a "QuickTime" folder in there? If so, drag that out onto the Desktop. Now try launching the QuickTime Player.
*If there was no QuickTime folder in \Roaming\Apple Computer\, or if the QuickTime Player still isn't displaying properly*
Quit any QuickTime player buttons in the Taskbar.
Go back into the "AppData" folder.
    Open the "Local" folder.
    Open the "Apple Computer" folder.
Do you see a "QuickTime" folder in there? If so, drag that out onto the Desktop. Now try launching the QuickTime Player.
*If there was no QuickTime folder in \Local\Apple Computer\, or if the QuickTime Player still isn't displaying properly*
Quit any QuickTime player buttons in the Taskbar.
Go back into the "AppData" folder.
    Open the "LocalLow" folder.
    Open the "Apple Computer" folder.
Do you see a "QuickTime" folder in there? If so, drag that out onto the Desktop. Now try launching the QuickTime Player.
Any of those measures help with the display problem?

  • Itunes simply will not open! please tell me why...i need my music!

    hello (hopefully) helpful peeps,
ok firstly, i know virtually nothing about computers...and mine is driving me nuts!!
i use an old powerbook (think it's from 2000). i have been having several problems with it over the past year, but the most annoying one is that itunes simply will not open. i have re-installed it several times but when i click on it, it just bounces twice and then...nothing. it says it is there in my applications folder- version 8.0.2, taking up 139.3 MB of my limited space (only 5.59 GB hard drive!) and it is completely useless to me! when i installed this latest version i checked the compatibility and it all seemed fine, so it can't be to do with that.
please can anyone help? ...i just want to listen to my music! :'(
ps. use BASIC computer talk please! think 'computers for dummies', none of this fancy lingo. ta!

LOL! good analogy...and i love mini coopers!
i am just as surprised as you that it is still hanging on despite it's age and size...tho it is driving me nuts and most of the time i want to take a sledge hammer to it!
my brother uses the exact same one, only i think he put a larger internal drive in his and he doesn't seem to have any problems (in fact this one used to be his til it broke one day, so he got another one, but managed to fix this one and gave it to me! it was second hand to begin with) i have had nothing but problems! but i just don't understand why itunes etc worked fine before when i haven't really used any more space, if anything i now use less cos i deleted practically everything!
so is it possible to get a larger internal drive (considering how old it is) or do you think it's not worth it? i have absolutely no idea how i would go about that, i suppose i would have to pay someone to fit it? i wouldn't dare open it up myself!
if they weren't so hideously expensive, i would just buy a lovely shiny new macbook since macs are def my preferred choice...tho i don't know why i am still loyal after all the grief it has given me!
cheers for being so helpful and sorry to ask all these questions but you seem to know your stuff...i'm clueless

  • Itunes Library will not open!!!!!    itunes Library will not open!!!!!

    Hello,
This is very frustrating that hundreds of people view these questions and only a few people answer. The issue here is that my itunes Library will not open. I'd sure like to know what is causing this and if it's gone forever.
    WinXP. Pro.
I have many Mp3 music files under the same playlist names as in my ipod, i:e: Country,Jazz,Blues,Classic Rock, Alternative, vocal, light sounds, etc. When I drag new mp3 music files into my ipod library, then sync to my ipod, Itunes makes a backup of itune music files in their folder..I think. Anyway, those mp3 muic files are still on the Hard drive, but I can not open up my itunes Library. is it Gone????
Sooooooooooooooo...I was slap-happy in upgrading my itunes software for my 80GB fith gen ipod for the kick of it. I downloaded the new updates.then tried to open my itunes library and it wouldn't open...I hooked up my Ipod thinking that may help open up the Library, but nothing.
I tried the system restore, nothing. I uninstalled itunes, then reinstalled the itunes/quicktime download from apple. I clicked on the itunes icon on the desktop a few times and then a few times more, nothing. I guess I'm missing the itunes.ink file to open this up. regardless, I went to the Windows/Start/programs/itunes...nothing again. Windows Explorer/C:/ program files/itunes...nothing.
I was afraid when I uninstalled the itunes software from before,it would erase the itunes Library, but the music is still on my hard drive,I just can't open the itunes Library. At this point,I should buy an external hard drive and transfer all my Mp3 files and the itunes music files/podcasts/photos,wipe the hard drive, reinstall the O.S. and start all over again.
I'm guessing I am out of options with this itune Libray. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jim

Still unanswered. I'm still trying to install itunes so I could use the library. I am removing Mp3 files from my hard drive to free up space,so if I ever do get the itunes setup,I'll have to remove the SYNC and do the manual so I ONLY transfer Podcasts into the ipod and not lose them becuase of the unchecked boxes.
Ok, I uninstalled EVERYTHING that has to do with Itunes/ipod from the computer..Add/remove programs, serch all files/folders,Windows Explorer,Start>All programs, the Itune reference. Turned off all my Firewall, spyware, and anti-virus,,downloaded the new 7.5 version Itunes/ipod...saved to desktop, installed the new software...then NADA! NOTHING! I can click on the shortcut desktop icon, and all the other ways to click the software open, but nothing. peole on other sites reccomend Tag and rename and use the Winamp media Library, because of all the lack of personal customer support APPLE lacks. I guess I was a Big FOOL to spend my hard earned $350.00 for this ipod.

  • After I update itunes, it will not open.

For the past year I have been trying to fix this problem. After I try to update my itunes, it will not open on my computer. Sometimes it says my quicktime is not updated or it says my windows is not compatible. I have no idea how to fix this problem!! If anyone can help, that would be awesome!! Thank you!!

    Taken from another post:
    1) Uninstall whatever version of itunes and quicktime your running. Go to your control panel and under "add/delete" programs select both applications. This will not wipe your song files.
    2) after you delete both applications. Reinstall itunes version 7.5. This will also automatically install Quicktime 7.3. Things will still not work.
    3) Go back into"add/delete" and uninstall quicktime. BLOW it away.
    4) Go to the following link and download and install quicktime version 7.2
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktime72forwindows.html
    5) Restart itunes....all should work.

  • Quicktime will not open after upgrading to "Snow"

Quicktime will not open after upgrading to "Snow". The light underneath the dock icon lights up but the application does not open. Suggestions?

Actually, wasting bandwidth is a waste of people's resources who offer to help here. You posted and got answers to your post. What you thought of that would be better (for you) was posting it in every corner of AD that might get read would give you a response 30 nanoseconds faster than posting once. So read your answer and enjoy your computer.
All you need to do is post in the right forum section, and wait for a response. It will come unless nobody has a clue which rarely occurs.

  • ITunes/Quicktime will not start.

iTunes/Quicktime will not start. Nor will anything quicktime dependant start. (Like Adobe Go Live) I recently reformated one of my Windows PCs and reinstalled m$ windows xp pro. I begain installing nessacary software and when I was done with iTunes/Quicktime (Why the heck is it now bundled?) it would not start. Could it be a codec conflict problem? I also tried reinstalling iTunes/Quciktime and nothing changed...
    Any comments would be appreciated.

    hi trackmanxs!
then i got the new quicktime and i am gettin error -1316 and -1603....someone please help
here's what we'll try first with that one.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
next use the QuickTime component of the complete uninstall instructions in the following document as a guide to a manual removal of leftover QuickTime program files and folders.
Trouble installing iPod, iTunes, or QuickTime software in Windows
once we've got all the existing QuickTime scraped away, let's try another careful standalone QT 7.1 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
    Quicktime 7.1 Standalone Installer
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)
    love, b
