IFail, this is progress?

Anyone else been dissapointed with the whole iCloud suite. My experience thus far;
* My computer is now jammed for 90 days. I have one account for songs and one for movies. I bought iTunes match, then I bought a movie on my new AppleTV 3 (which doesn't sync). I then switched ID's on my iMac to download the movie (since the ATV3 doesn't put it in my library), and now I've locked my PC for 90 days and can't access my other account. So no playlists or new music shows up on my phone.
* iTunes match is useless anyways. You've no way of seeing what you actually have on your phone, so you spend forever trying to download tracks when your away. I used to just have the whole playlist synced.
* Photostream is useless, other than taking up 10gb on my phone, its a nuisance syncing all those temporary photos. I took a photo of a splinter on my foot, and hey presto, its now on the projector. Wow, awesome. I've turned Photostream off, and I can't get this space back.
* Wifi sync doesn't work, constant Unknown error 0xE800007F (View the full discussion)
and now just a month until they delete my MobileMe galleries.. this is progress?

Well, that's what caused your problem. Why on earth would you set up 2 accounts with exactly the same store?

Yes.
What you need to do is Transfer the iTunes Library from your Old computer to your New computer...
Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..

MacOSX 10.9.2 broke this Applescript progress bar :(

Hello,
Ever since I upgraded to MacOS 10.9.2, this download script with progress bar, which I frequently use, stopped working. Well the download bit works,
but the progress bar, do not show the progress anymore.
I have tried to resolve the issue, but I cannot get my head around what is wrong. So I hope someone out there can give me a helping hand, in solving
the problem.
The script is supposed to read the lines in the curl command output file, and show the current status in a dialog box, and then finish when it reaches
100%. But for some reason the dialog box, which is supposed to repeately show a dialog with the current progress, now do not appear before the
download reaches 100%. Hence no way to know the current progress of the download.
So is there anyone who knows why this script stopped working with MacOS 10.9.2, and even more importantly, anyone who knows how to fix it?

So you can see a recurring dialog box that shows the current progress of the download? and you are using Maverick 10.9.2 ?
I have tried on three different Macs with 10.9.2, on different networks, and all with the same problem. The dialog box will not show before the download reaches 100%.
If you mean the "event log" in the applscript app. Then no, there is no indication of any error. Which also bugs me, or els a solution could possible be easier to locate.
OMG. while writing this, I just noticed you comment about no need for administrator privileges.. I remove that bit from the script, and guess what, now it WORKS Thx a million...

In-Service Warranty Repair Denied: Would Really Appreciate Tips on How Best to Handle This -- INTERIM PROGRESS REPORT, Bottom of Thread

Hi, everybody,
Four days ago (4-21-08), I returned my IBM T60 for repair via the prepaid box.
While I was bummed that it stopped booting for no apparent reason and I'd have to do without it, I wasn't concerned, because as a newspaper and magazine reporter and editor, I've been using Thinkpads and IBM Service since the pre-Pentium days, without ever having a problem.
But today when I called to see if my unit was on its way back, I was informed it's on 'billable hold.' IBM claimed the damage was due to a spill and thus, not covered. I could get my laptop back right now, broken, pay $750 for them to repair it (I did not spill a drop of anything into or on it) or open a dispute.
And -- get this -- it would be [i]four to five business days[/i] before I hear back from IBM regarding the dispute's disposition.
I was told the reason for this long wait was because 'we have a big backlog of dispute cases' and 'our technicians have to take pictures and make a report documenting the spill' -- which did not occur on my end.
So who documents my side? Nobody interviewed me. The prepaid box did not even contain the forms IBM service always used to send for me to fill out describing the problem.
I asked to speak to a supervisor -- nobody available. And the message I left on a supervisor's answering machine was not returned.
Needless to say, I am very upset. I absolutely positively did not spill anything into or onto my laptop. If they said dog hair or dander, okay, I've got two large mutts. But no spillage.
Plus, the T60 is among those thinkpad models promoted by Lenovo via videos on its own site & Youtube in which Thinkpads get smooshed by heavy equipment, run over by motorcycles, submerged in diving pools, etc.!
(I just downloaded the whole lot, in case I need them for Small Claims Court).
However, I hope it doesn't come to that, and would similarly prefer to avoid anti-Lenovo blog screeds and forum posts, if possible. After all, this is my first-ever negative experience with IBM products.
Has anybody gotten any satisfaction from Warranty Service using more congenial methods? And is there anything I can do right now, as I have publication deadlines to meet?
Apart from the boot failure, this laptop was in near-pristine condition when they received it and I need it back.
[i]Four to five more business days[/i], just to tell me whether or not they want to hear my side of the story, not even to do the repair? That's kind of insulting. Why did I pay for the Warranty?
This is definitely not the IBM experience I've known and loved for so many years, so if any of you have satisfactorily resolved your own in-warranty issues, please share your experiences.

Using itunes backup, will this save progress in game apps

I have an ipod touch 4th gen. When I backup with iTunes on my PC, will it save app data, like game progress?
Or if I have to restore the backup, will I be starting over in all my games?

Game progress and other app data is saved in the backup. If you backup the device and then later restore that backup you should have your game state restored.
It is worth nothing that typically there is a single rolling backup per device. If you want to preseve snapshots of your device for recovering from a problem that you're not initially aware of then it may be good practice to backup and immediately restore say once a month. Restored backups are archived and a new rolling backup is created. You can delete older backups when you want to reclaim space.
Note also that if you remove an app and backup the device then the backup of the app's state is also deleted.
Some games/apps allow for game progress/data to be saved in the cloud associated with your Apple ID.

I need to transfer my library from my old computer to my new computer (both PCs.) How is this done? The process seems to be more opaque than it really needs to be. Thank you!!

My library (which includes items from CDs and items purchased from itunes) is on my old PC. I have a new PC and want to transfer the library. I can't see how to do this. I've turned Home Sharing on for both computers, but the Share doesn't show up on either one. I can't figure out how to move the library. When I try to burn it on a CD it keeps saying the CD isn't blank, even tho it is.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

O.,.k. Maybe this is progress. I transfered the Itunes folder to an external hard drive, connected that with the new computer, and told Itunes to look for the library there. It found the library.
The playlists are not there, but that's not a big deal.
The songs I tried to transfer to the new computer are still there, with the "!" tag, meaning they won't play. No big deal. I deleted all the "!" because the songs were there in files without the "!".
Final problem, I hope.
I ended up with hundreds of duplicate copies. Both dupes play. Again, no big deal other than the annoyance of having to delete the dupes.
Next step, after I have completed the deletion of the dupes.
1. Recreate the play lists manually, using my Ipod as the guide.
2. Then sync the Ipod with the new computer library, and all will be will.
Am I right? Or is there possible trouble?

Viewing progressive video on different systems

Hi everyone,
I've got some 24P (normal, from a DVX100) video here that I'm editing, and I'm wondering what to expect it to look like when I'm finished. While editing, on my progressive (obviously) computer monitor, I'm seeing ugly interlace lines on every 2 out of 5 frames (PPPIIPPPII, or however it's ordered). My NTSC (interlaced) monitor died, so I can't check it out on that right now, but I presume it would look fine on that. I know these pulldown frames are part of getting 24P on miniDV tapes, but how do I make them less visible, or not visible at all, while viewing on a progressive device?
What if I'm watching it on a TV with progressive inputs? Will I see the pulldown frames as interlaced, as I now do on my computer monitor? Also, if I export to a web format, like MP4 or H264, how will it look? I'm messing around with the "progressive" setting in the frame controls of Compressor, but it doesn't appear to be doing anything. I can still see the interlacing.
I suspect there's something simple I'm overlooking. In my browser, it says the field dominance is set to Even. It should automatically be set to none if it's progressive, right? What might this indicate? I captured in NTSC DV.
In summary, how do I play it on something other than an NTSC monitor and not have the interlacing in the pulldown frames visible?

I was referring to 24P NTSC 29.97 and not true, 23.98 progressive. Sorry about that. So, to try and straighten up my understanding, any NTSC output sent by Final Cut Pro, through my camera/interface and sent to a composite input will be 24P 29.97 with the 3:2. Therefore, this signal should ALWAYS be sent to an interlaced, NTSC monitor? And if I want to pretend I'm watching it on an interlaced monitor, but actually use a progressive monitor, I should get a converter/interface with HDMI or composite outputs, which will then output a proper progressive signal, without the 3:2, and I will then see the image without the horizontal lines, even though my original signal has the interlaced frames?
If I'm still missing something, how do I watch my timeline from FCP on an external, progressive monitor without seeing the 3:2 artifacts, yet still using the 29.97 signal, with the 3:2 pulldown intact? There must be a way to see it without the artifacts on a progressive monitor, other than going through Cinema Tools... No? It doesn't make sense that I wouldn't be able to do this. Patrick, you were saying newer screens can handle 3:2 and deal with it?. Will just ANY recent monitor (LCD, CRT, OLED, Plasma, Anti-Matter, whatever) do this through its composite input? I have a Dell 2407 with a slew of inputs, one being composite RCA. Can I get a non-jaggie, 29.97 viewing from this otherwise progressive monitor?

The file appears in the time line, but the frame appears that says "media pending" and then nothing happens. I can go into the Widows media player and the mpg file plays okay, with audio. That is best I can tell you.
Though I did not say this earlier, when I try to open this mpg file from the Organizer, Premiere does not open.
My operating system is Windows 7 on a Dell computer with lots of ram and plenty of space on my hard drive.
Properties of movie file
These properties are the same as a file I already inserted in the timeline.

Published HTML5 - Clickbox won't progress with F4?

Hi Everyone,
This is a bit of an odd question. I have published a course to HTML5. It uses click boxes which also have keyboard shortcuts (e.g. either tap it, or press the key on your keyboard). One of these click boxes keyboard shortcut is the <F4> function key (to simulate how it works in our software program we are training on). However, when I try to use this to progress to the next slide in IE - it won't work (it actually makes my search bar drop down instead).
I am assuming this is an IE Browser shortcut - does anyone know how to turn this off/ or better yet, if there is a way to get this <F4> to work for my course in an IE Browser with HTML5 published content?

The browser will have right of way no matter how you try to convince it otherwise. I suggest you give the user another option to indicate they know the F4 key would be what they should use in the actual application.

LSO Learning progress from content player

Thanks for sharing your perspective.
After thinking further about the real estate question, I believe that, at least in the US, most instructional designers aim to present content at 800x600 pixel size. This accounts for differing monitor sizes, etc. If this is the case, then good instructional design (e.g. don't put too much content on a screen at once) should assure that content could be played in-line (in the BSP page). Since the navigational controls are at the bottom, that wouldn't have any effect on width of the page and could also be accommodated.
I'm still of the opinion that SAP LSO (and all leading LMS systems) should evolve to presenting content in the base window. Perhaps there are some extreme exceptions where the extra real estate would make a true difference. In that case, perhaps the learner should be offered an LSO learner setting where they can choose to display content in-line or in a separate window....let them decide Alternatively, one could offer the Training Administrator an infotype setting where they specify whether the content should be displayed in-line (default) versus in a separate popup (this could be used on an exception basis).

What happened to the "bookmark this group of tabs" function?

Firefox 6.0 doesn't have a "bookmark this group of tabs" function on the bookmarks menu. What happened to it? Can it still be done? How? This is progress???

Thanks. Is it me, or is this completely counterintuitive? I expect the tab context menu to have stuff that applies to a particular tab, and the Bookmarks menu to contain functions concerned with bookmarks globally.

Progress Bar for Video

Can i use common program type for progression

i have many program type for undergraduate and graduate.
sometimes student can change from program type UG to GR and in this case progression can cause problem in our case.
we have many program type for graduate such as B0, B1 and B2 and for progression i want to have E0 for graduation but progression can not read this data which was saved as E0.
will it be possible that i have E0 for progression while program type have different one.

The Program Type progression will always give you the choices for program types where the student is registered. So, it is not possible to run Progression for Program Type 'X', unless the student is actually registered in a program of that program type.
I would normally use this opportunity to ask, "Why would you have set up so many program types when you have a common progression model?"
I would also ask, "How can a student change Program Types?" Normally I would expect that a student completes their Undergraduate program, and then begins a new Graduate level program. How can an undergraduate registration turn into a graduate registration?
Are you blueprinting something new here, or are you talking about a system already in production?

i seem to have solved by problem with m2t files using a batch capture in mpeg streamclip and using apple pro res 422 codec...
one question remains: is this a progressive film that i am working with or non?
the director shot on the **sony hvr z7u** using compact flash cards and the video was shot on 1080i...i selected "interlaced scaling" and "reinterlace chroma"...but it says "deselect for progressive movies"? is this a progressive movie?

The "i" in 1080i means it is interlaced ... so to answer your question, No it is not progressive.

Progress bar with background task

Hi, I am using background agent to upload files. Its taking about 30 min to upload a single image or audio file. Is there any method to reduce the time to launch the background agent in production. I'm using the following line for debug process and its
working fine and the files are getting uploaded as soon as possible. But when the application is in windows phone store im not able to use this line of code. Please help if there is any solution to reduce the time for background agent launch. Also is there
any UI changes I can make while the background process is running, so that the user can identify that the file is uploading. Can I use progress bar indicator or anything when the background file is uploading. Thanks.
