IFS-46113: No such server (IfsProtocols)

I get this message during shutdown. Why would the IfsProtocols server vanish?
Scott

Thanks for the reply. The IfsProtocols process dies very regulary about 60 minutes after I do a ifsstart. Sometimes its 50 minutes, sometimes 70, but it always dies. I have only one port open (SQL NET) between the ifs server and the database server. It seems like I am experiencing a network time out, but I have not seen anything in the documentation that address a mutilple node install through a firewall.
Is there a fix for the ifs-46113 error? What other symptoms should I be looking at?
Thanks
Scott

  • IFS uses Oracle DEDICATED server instead of SHARED

    Hi all,
    Context:
    OS = HPUX 11.00 64 bits
    Oracle 8.1.7.0
    iFS 1.1.9
I have configured my Oracle DB server to use MTS (Multi Threaded
Server) mode, using the "mts_dispatcher" parameters suite in
    the 'init.ora' file.
I have also re-configured the listener to force SHARED server
mode, using the "netasst" graphical tool.
From that point, after restarting the DB server and the
listener, my standard Oracle client (SQL worksheet) are
connecting to the base using a dispatcher and a SHARED server,
as I can see from the v$session view.
However, when I start iFS (./ifsstart), all agents and protocol
servers are still using several DEDICATED servers...instead of
    SHARED server mode.
How can I change this behaviour ?
Did I miss something in the DB server configuration, or in iFS
    configuration ?
This point is very critical to us since we are experiencing
problems when too many iFS connections occur at the same time,
when reaching a ceil of oracle processes, the kernel refuses to
spawn new ones...causing new iFS connections to fail.
Thanks in advance for any information.
    Regards,
    Arnaud Chiaberge

Note that we don't certify the JDBC thin driver, only the JDBC
    OCI driver.
I don't know enough about how MTS works to be able to fully
answer your question about why the processes come up in
    DEDICATED mode.
However, I'm more concerned about the issue where you say that
too many Oracle shadow processes are being created and the
kernel is refusing to do so.
Note that you can adjust the maximum number of iFS processes
that can be created using the Target and Maximum Readonly and
Writeable connection pool settings. Also, you can adjust the
time that iFS will wait before trying to spawn a new connection,
once the Target setting has been reached.
If your problem is more challenging than that, please open a
Technical Assistance Request with Oracle Worldwide Support, and
give us more details, so we can see how we can help.

IFS 9.0.2 is only certified against Oracle 9iAS 9.2.0.1.
Hence it could be any number of things.
I suggest posting a log detailing the error condition on the CM SDK / 9iFS forum. (Not this forum which is for Oracle Files).

  • IFS custom Agent, Unable to start server

Hi, I want to write a custom agent that is for a extended Folder classobject.
Whenever a file (Object ) is added to this agent. The object is copied to a remote location.
Now i have written the class, compiled it and used IFS manager to launch it at startup.
In IFS log i see the following error

Rakesh, not sure if I'm on the right track with this suggestion, but I'll volunteer it in case it's useful.
The error you're seeing might be occurring because the class path provided to the JVM you're starting the Server Manager instance under does not provide access to your new agent .class file. If this is the case, you can likely provide access to your agent by specifying the appropriate directory or jar file reference as the value of the IFS_CUSTOM_CLASSPATH environment variable prior to starting the Server Manager.
The way that IFS_CUSTOM_CLASSPATH plays in the game is that the canned Oracle startup scripts for the Server Manager first invoke "ifsenv.sh" to setup the commonly needed iFS environment variables such as IFS_CLASSPATH & IFS_CLASSPATH. The setting of those variables includes a reference to $IFS_CUSTOM_CLASSPATH at the appropriate point to include whatever it specifies as part of the class path iFS will run with. This approach provides us folks wishing to customize iFS a way of getting our class implementations into the iFS class path.

  • Is there a way to keep music & playlists on a server?

We've become a multi-computer household recently, but not enough for everyone to be on their own computer, so in my house you grab any free computer when you can. I want to be able to synch up my iPod with any computer that becomes free. I've learned how to move my library to an external drive, so my guess it's no big difference if that external drive is a served one. But is there a way to have the playlists and such served as well?
Extra credit question (not iTunes): should I even bother trying to run Xserve from my 233 MHz G3?

It sounds like you issue could be bigger than just iTunes.
You said that with a limited number of computers at home, you try and
"grab a free one." You've resorted to an external HD for you iTunes library
    and Photos, right?
I think I would try moving my ENTIRE user folder to the external HD - i.e. /Users/<name>. And attaching that HD evertime I wanted to use a computer.
*WARNING!! Geek Speak! Also, I've done the following with other Unix and/or Linux systems, but not yet with OS X. *
The way to do this is by creating the same user (a new account) on all computers, being careful to name the account exactly the same on each machine, AND making sure the UID/GID is the same on every machine for this new account (use Netinfo Manager to be sure.) You will need administrator access to to this, and PLEASE do this using a different local Administrator account than the account you are trying to create.
Once that is done, attach the External HD to the first computer. Using Terminal or X11, open a shell (command prompt window,) go to /Users and blow away the new user <name> folder with "rm -r <name>". Then create a symbolic link to the External HD's user folder using "ln -s /Volumes/External HD/Users/<name> <name>". This makes the "Users/<name>" file structure on the External HD look like it lives under the target computer's Users folder.
Since OS X is basically Unix, this should make all of your applications treat your data as if it existed physically on the target computer.
In normal use, make sure that the target computer is logged into a different account when attaching the external drive - AND BEFORE you login to your
"attached" account. Then logout of your new account before Ejecting the External HD.
This should give you access to everything in your User folder on ANY computer. Just a word of caution, all computers that you'd like to enable this on should have the same OS version, and application versions - else you could be trying to access a new format file with an older application - not ussually a problem with Macs.

  • Load Data from a table on one server's database, to the same table structure in multiple server databases

    Hi,
I have a situation where i have to load data from one server/database table to multiple servers/databases.
    Example:
I need to load data from dbo.TABLE_A  (on Server: Server_A & Database: Database_A)  to the same table on the list of server databases like
    Server: Server_B , Database: Database_B
    Server: Server_C , Database: Database_C
    Server: Server_D , Database: Database_D
    Server: Server_E , Database: Database_E
    Server: Server_F , Database: Database_F
    Server: Server_G , Database: Database_G
    Server: Server_H , Database: Database_H
so on and so forth on 250 such server database combinations.
The table structure is the same on all the servers.
If i make the source or destination dynamic, it throws an error while mapping ?
I cannot get Linked server permissions and SQL Server Config thing doesn't work as well.
Please suggest on how to load data from one source to multiple server/databases.
    Thank you.

I just need to transfer one table's data. its like i have to use a query to pick data for
the most recent data. So i use something like, select A, B, C, D from dbo.table where ETL_TIMESTAMP > (the max(etltimestamp) in the destination on different server). There are no foreign key relationships and the data should not be truncated. it just had
    to append the new records.

  • Server start up error

I have configured two applications on two different domains belonging to two different instances of my weblogic server. Now I am getting the following error:
While starting the second instance of my weblogic server ,I am getting the error-' Server cannot be launched within timeout '.The first instance is starting properly.
My weblogic server version is 10.
    Please help!!

I have weblogic10 server installed on my workstation. In that I have created two domains base_domain and dest_domain,in each domain I have created one server instance and both are named AdminServer. In each server instance I have deployed one seperate Application.
The server instance that is starting is having a cmd window opened with the script responsible for server start up running in it successfully.
But when I start the second server instance it does not open any such window.
And yes I see the server log for the server instance getting started and do not see any such server log for the instance that fails to start.

  • IFS & Cocoon / XSP

    Hi,
I'm currently fighting with iFS and XSP ...
The goal is to have an XSP-Taglib for iFS to use iFS functionality in XSP-Server-Pages ...
An example XSP-Taglib works without any Problems, as well as an stand-alone Java program to put a document into the iFS repository (and gather some informational data from the iFS) ...
But as soon as I try to put both parts together the java compiler refuses to compile ... When I use the classes full qualified (oracle.ifs.beans.LibaryService) with an OutOfMemory-Error or ResourceUnavailable-Error, when I try to use an import oracle.ifs.beans.* with an absolutely senseless error (an method of the interface is not implement, but it is) ...
If I compile it by Hand (works when I do not use the import statement) the XSP-Processor throws an NullPointer-Exception ...
I assume it must be something with the XML-Parsing (which might be incompatible in Cocoon/Xerces/Xalan and Oracle iFS) ...
I use TomCat 3.2beta2 with Cocoon 1.7.4 at the on side and Oracle 8.1.6 with iFS 1.0.8.3.0 on the other ...
Any help is highly appreciated ...
    Bye.
    Jens

... it was a problem with same class names ...
    org.w3c.dom.Document and oracle.ifs.beans.Document ...
both packages were imported with an * ...
    import org.w3c.dom.*;
came from the Cocoon XSP processor and ...
    import oracle.ifs.beans.*;
    ... came from me ...
both imports in one java file seem to confuse the java compiler ... (and it doesn't
seem to take care of those situations)

  • Accessing IFS classes from Weblogic

Can I access the classes of IFS from within Weblogic by adding the IFS jars to the Classpath of Weblogic?
Also how does EJBs work with IFS?
    Kaustuva Mukherjee

I'm doing exactly the same thing that you are asking. first install ifs client on weblogic server, so that all ifs jar files are on weblogic. then do this in the weblogic class path file:
    REM ------------------ IFS CLASSPATH ------------------------
    SET IFS_CLASSPATH=d:\Oracle\Ora81\ifs1.1\lib\adk.jar;d:\Oracle\Ora81\ifs1.1\lib\clientlib.jar;d:\Oracle\Ora81\ifs1.1\lib\cmdlineutils.jar;d:\Oracle\Ora81\ifs1.1\lib\cup.jar;d:\Oracle\O ra81\ifs1.1\lib\http.jar;d:\Oracle\Ora81\ifs1.1\lib\oemadmin.jar;d:\Oracle\Ora81\ifs1.1\lib\release.jar;d:\Oracle\Ora81\ifs1.1\lib\repos.jar;d:\Oracle\Ora81\ifs1.1\lib\utils.jar;d: \Oracle\Ora81\ifs1.1\lib\webui.jar;d:\Oracle\Ora81\ifs1.1\settings
and include IFS_CLASSPATH in your weblogic path.
restart weblogic and u'll have all ifs classes for your use.

  • Sql server 2005, R/3 4.6c and compability mode

    Hi
I doing upgrade from 4.6c --> ECC 6.0 on sql server 2005. And i get followin error
    SCRIPT MSSINCHK
    =================
    Msg 468, Level 16, State 9, Server MEDIASP10, Line 55
Cannot resolve the collation conflict between "SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN" and
"SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN2" in the equal to operation.
    Msg 468, Level 16, State 9, Server MEDIASP10, Line 66
Cannot resolve the collation conflict between "SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN" and
"SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN2" in the equal to operation.
    Execution completed successfully
I have checked that collation order is correct.
I think that problem that somehow sql server's compability mode is recognized wrong (sql server 2000 insted sql server 2005).
    Any colution on this ?
    Br, Juha Niemi

    Hi there,
I'm running into this same issue when trying to run PREPARE for the 4.6c to ERP/ECC 6.0 upgrade in phase INITPUT_PRE.  I ran several of the queries mentioned in this thread and discovered that the database and instance are both BIN2, and 116230 columns are BIN2, but another 319398 columns are still BIN.  Without reverting the database (eek, somehow) back to MSSQL2000 and rerunning instcoll.exe (again, I already did once) or building an alter table query for each one that is out of spec (which according to MSDN won't work on certain cols anyway), how can this be resolved?
for my SID database I have the following column types in count:
    SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN2     116230
    Latin1_General_BIN     29
    NULL     58467
    Latin1_General_CI_AS_KS_WS     11
    SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN     319398
But the databases are all running BIN2 as such:
    Server     SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN2
    Master     SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN2
    Model     SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN2
    TempDB     SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN2
    SID     SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN2
The checkdb procedure came back with no errors:
CHECKDB found 0 allocation errors and 0 consistency errors in database 'PD1'.
DBCC execution completed. If DBCC printed error messages, contact your system administrator.
And the system appears to be functioning correctly, except that the Upgrade Assistant won't let me continue with the mismatched column collation types.
Suggestions?  I noticed there was never a resolution posted.
    Thanks,
    --ben

  • Can we have both IFS 1.0 and 1.1 on the same machine? (eom)

    -

    Yes, with the following restrictions:
    1. iFS 1.0 can only access a 1.0 schema
    2. iFS 1.1 can only access a 1.1 schema
(that is, the 1.0 and 1.1 software cannot access the same files/ifs schema; you must have two different iFS schemas created on the database)
    3. iFS 1.0 can be running at the same time as iFS 1.1 only if the iFS 1.0 protocol servers (including JWS and the JWS admin service) are configured to use different ports than the iFS 1.1 protocol servers.
    4. only ONE SMB server may run -- EITHER the iFS 1.0 SMB server OR the iFS 1.1 SMB server, because the SMB port is not configurable.
    5. you must have a lot of RAM :-)
Note: you can use the same database for both iFS schemas. You can also install both versions of iFS in the same ORACLE_HOME. iFS 1.0 will be located in $ORACLE_HOME/ifs and iFS 1.1 will be located in $ORACLE_HOME/ifs1.1

  • Weblogic and IFS (Urgent)

    Hi there ,
Could anyone help me in installing IFS on Weblogic Application server
What all things i have to do to get it worked on weblogic
    Thanks in advance

    Hi !
Can somebody tell me what versions of iFS can be used with iAS 1.0.2.2.1 ? And the way around : Which version of iAS should I use for iFS 9.0.1 ?
    Many thanks !!! Hi Jay.
There are two versions of iFS.
    - The iFS which ships as an integrated part of the iAS 1.0.2.0, 1.0.2.1, and 1.0.2.2.
    - The iFS which ships as its own install and is downloadable from OTN (including iFS 9.0.1).
The first iFS is not certified to work outside of iAS
The second one is not certified to work with iAS (use the Oracle HTTP Server shipped with the database instead).
iFS 9.0.1 is not available with iAS yet. We're working on a version (9.0.2) which will be shipping with iAS. (I can't give dates.)
    I hope that helps.

  • Connection to iFS from a remote station & .properties file syntax

    Hello,
I want to make a java application (running on a simple NT workstation) that is able to connect onto the iFS-1.1.9 server (running on a different unix server).
So I copied all the necessary jar and zip files from the iFS server, installed JDK1.1.8 (would it work with JDK 1.3 since I have iFS-1.1.9 ?), put all necessary jar/zip files in the classpath and I was able to compile the sample program given in the iFS dev guide.
I know that I also need a "service.properties" file that is in oracle.ifs.server.properties directory in my CLASSPATH, that point is ok.
The fact is that I don't have a clue about the exact syntax of that file. I only have as an example the standard servers.properties file on my iFS server itself, but the "DatabaseUrl" attribute is probably not the same because in my case the service is running on a remote machine...
As a result, when I launch my java app on my workstation it says :
oracle.ifs.common.IfsException: IFS-10620: Unable to construct connection pool
oracle.ifs.common.IfsException: IFS-10633: Unable to create library connection
oracle.ifs.common.IfsException: IFS-10600: Unable to construct library connection
So is there anything I am missing ? Where can I find the definition and syntax of all attributes in the .properties file ?
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Regards,
    Arnaud.

OK, so there are two problems. First of all, I should have explained better. You absolutely need ALL of the other properties in the new service properties file you have created. What I should have said in the last post was that the above three properties are the only ones you need to CHANGE. What you should do is copy IfsDefault.properties from the iFS installation ($OH/ifs1.1/settings/oracle/ifs/server/properties) to your NT machine, and then EDIT those three properties as you have specified above. And make sure to put it in the CLASSPATH correctly, under the same directory hierarchy.
The second problem is your JDBC database URL. The format for the OCI8 connect string using a TNS alias is as follows:
    jdbc:oracle:oci8:@<tns_alias>
where <tns_alias> is a name you create with the Oracle Net8 Assistant (it should be on your NT machine under your Start menu: Oracle-<your_oracle_home>/Network Administration).
You should read the Net8 Administration Guide for more information about TNS aliases and how to use "thick" (OCI8) JDBC.

  • IFS for Storing images?

Would it make sense to use iFS to store and serve images that are uploaded
(via browser) and then displayed on a website?
When storing the imgages directly on the disk we run into scalability issues
as well as having to worry about propagating copies of each image to each
    web
    server.
Does it make more sense to store the images in iFS or simply in a BLOB (or
whatever) in a normal Oracle table?
Is anyone using iFS for this?

    null

Well, it runs more resources than the database itself does, since it runs as an external Java application. Check out the Installation Guide for recommended memory and disk for running it on the same machine as the database or on the middle tier.
As Hanne said, it all depends on your priorities. If all you want to do is store and you're an adroit database programmer, you might bypass iFS altogether. If you don't want to do any development to give users the ability to upload, download, and search for images, and you'd rather give them familiar network protocol interfaces like Windows networking and FTP than a custom application, I'd run the file system.
