When can we expect iFS for NT
Thanks

You can expect iFS for NT to be downloadable from OTN within the next week.
Thanks for your patience,

  • IFS for Storing images?

    Would it make sense to use iFS to store and serve images that are uploaded
    (via browser) and then displayed on a website?
    When storing the imgages directly on the disk we run into scalability issues
    as well as having to worry about propagating copies of each image to each
    web
    server.
    Does it make more sense to store the images in iFS or simply in a BLOB (or
    whatever) in a normal Oracle table?
    Is anyone using iFS for this?

    Well, it runs more resources than the database itself does, since it runs as an external Java application. Check out the Installation Guide for recommended memory and disk for running it on the same machine as the database or on the middle tier.
    As Hanne said, it all depends on your priorities. If all you want to do is store and you're an adroit database programmer, you might bypass iFS altogether. If you don't want to do any development to give users the ability to upload, download, and search for images, and you'd rather give them familiar network protocol interfaces like Windows networking and FTP than a custom application, I'd run the file system.

  • IFS for Linux?

    Will Oracle release iFS for Linux?

    Yes, we're still working on our Linux port. It's a high priority port for us, given the popularity of Linux. Note that we'll be porting both v1.0 and v1.1, so you'll see the v1.0 soon, followed by v1.1 some time afterward.

  • Download IFS for Windows'NT

    Hi.. where can I download a version of the IFS for Windows'NT? Is it available?
    In case it is not, where can I download a Solaris version?
    thanks.

    The NT version of iFS is available on OTN. Simply click on Software and select Oracle Internet File System.

  • IFS For Controlling Data Access

    We have a requirement where we want to be able to allow access to particular classes of files based upon the NT Application that is actually reading/writing the data.
    For example - we want Word to be able to write our files but Notepad not be able to.
    Does anyone have any experience/suggestions on whether this is do-able with IFS?
    Thanks,
    Mike.

    Probably not. The SMB Server does not know which application is accessing the SMB Server.

  • IFS for W2K

    Is there a planned iFS release for W2K any time soon? If there is then what is the schedule for the plan?
    Thanks a lot,
    Jurek

    Version 1.1 of Oracle iFS, slated for release in October 2000, is certified for Windows 2000 client and server.

  • Using ifs for multiple companys

    All,
    Let stay I want to use one ifs instance to support two companies?
    I'm able to create different directories off of /home like
    /home/company1/bob
    /home/company2/sally
    Its ok to day that there should only be one user named "bob" per
    company. But if company 2 has a user named "bob" the user
    manager does not know anything about his home directory.
    So I could concatenate the company to the user names like
    /home/company1/company1_bob
    /home/company2/company2_sally
    /home/company2/company2_bob
    I would also like no not abandon the IFS management console to
    administer the names.
    But there must be a better way.
    Any ideas?
    Mitch

    If I want to do this at the database level, would I need to
    create multiple,
    ifs domains
    ifs nodes
    ifs services
    configured with different database partitions?
    How would one do this?
    Is it documented anywhere?
    Anyone?

  • Where to deploy iFS for PROD env: mid-tier or inf-tier?

    Mid and infra tiers are on separate servers. Does it make more sense to deploy iFS onto the mid or infra tiers from a performance standpoint?
    Brian

    Brian,
    i guess it depends more upon security than performance. Depending upon what protocols you're maiking available will determine where to put the iFS server. Obviously you'll also need a 'fat' connection between you iFs and database machines. If all (public) access is through a web application then most performance will be gained from having app. servers with large memory and fast processors rather than the performance of the iFS server.

  • Finding iFS for 8.1.5 OR 8.1.6 database

    Where can I download a version of iFS to use with my database? Also, which version of the 8i database would I use iFS with?

    iFS requires 8.1.6. iFS takes advantage of a couple of new features added in 8.1.6.

  • Please modify Oracle IFS for linux download web page

    The directions to extract files from Linux_iFS_901_Disk1.cpio.gz are wrong.
    the correct commands are:
    gunzip Linux_iFS_901_Disk1.cpio.gz
    cpio -idmv -H odc < Linux_iFS_901_Disk1.cpio
    So please modify the web page.

    I think you experienced a server in flux. I just tried it and it works. If it continues to fail, then post more details about how you navigated from the page you referenced.

  • IFS good for BLOB but for structured data ...

    Hello,
    After evaluating IFS for 1.5 month, we realized that we cannot really
    use IFS to store our XML files in a structured manner. Please tell me if
    I am wrong about the following assumption.
    Every time you have multiple EMBEDDED elements in an XML (which happens
    all the time) you have to create a Custom Class for each element and use
    Compound Documents.
    My XML sample
    <instance ref="sample">
    <table ref="sampleTable1">
    <record>
    <property ref="myprop1">hello</property>
    In an Instance I have many Tables, In a Table I have many Records, in a Record many properties (a basic application).
    In IFS, I have to create 4 CustomClass, that will contain ATTRIBUTS of type PublicObject_Arrays to contain my other Custom class. This Will get pretty big if you think that each PublicObject have by default 16 ATTRIBUTS !!!
    If there is no other way, we will have to store the XML as a Blob and use InterMedia to index our Structured data. Any suggestion?
    null

    I was down this path a few months ago. One alternative raised was that we don't use the default parser, but instead implement a custom parser. The main issue I ran into was that the default parser could not parse the 'currency' portion of the following xml:
    <amount currency='USD'>99.12</amount>
    It would parse the 99.12 into a column named amount.
    You may want to search for that thread.

  • Database with LINUX for IFS

    Hello,
    Is it possible to use:
    - 1 NT server for IFS
    - 1 server Linux for Oracle 8.1.6
    Thank you

    Ifs can run from NT against an Oracle 8.1.6 database as long as the iFS servers are all running on the NT box. Note that you will not have access to content searching is this configuration as 8.1.6 on Linux does not have a complete implementation of Intermedia/text due to the fact that the INSO filters used by Intermedia/Text are only just availalbe on that platform.
    We are planning on a complete, fully functional iFS for Linux in the near future now that the INSO filters are available.

  • Check a string in bash for unwanted characters

    Hello,
    I'm trying to do a bash script that checks a variable against a list of unwanted characters, e.g. to parse a file name.
    This doesn't really sound like a difficult task, but for some reason, whatever I've tried so far does not work, including my last attempt, shown below. Perhaps I'm doing something silly here - and I'm getting tired of it. What would be the best way for instance to parse a file name for invalid characters, or to accomplish or fix the below?
    #!/bin/bash
    read -p "Enter a filename: " fname
    invalid_chars=", . ! @ # \$ % ^ & \* ( ) + = ? { } [ ] | ~"
    i=0
    while (( i <= ${#fname} )); do
       char=${fname:$i:1}
       for char in `echo $invalid_chars`; do
         echo "$char"
       done
       (( i += 1 ))
    doneThanks.

    Meanwhile I figured out the mistake I made in the for loop. The below finally works catching the list of characters. It won't catch * and ? though. I wonder if there wasn't an easier way to do it, beside using "grep".
    #!/bin/bash
    f_varcheck()
      ifs_orig=$IFS
      count=0
      score=0
      while (( count <= ${#1} )); do
        char=${1:$count:1}
        if [ "$score" = "0" ]; then
          wanted_char='~,!,@,#,$,%,^,&,(,),+,`,='
          IFS=$','
          for item in `echo "$wanted_char"`; do
            [ "$item" = "$char" ] && score=1
          done
        fi
        if [ "$score" = "0" ]; then
          wanted_char='{,},|,[,],\,:,",;,<,>,., ,/,'
          IFS=$','
          for item in `echo "$wanted_char"`; do
            [ "$item" = "$char" ] && score=1
          done
        fi
        if [ "$score" = "0" ]; then
          wanted_char=','
          IFS=$' '
          for item in `echo "$wanted_char"`; do
            [ "$item" = "$char" ] && score=1
          done
        fi
      if [ "$score" = "0" ]; then
        (( count += 1 ))
      else
        break
      fi
      done
      IFS=$ifs_orig
      [ "$score" = "1" ] && return 1 || return 0
    read -p "Enter a filename: " fname
    if ! f_varcheck "$fname"; then
       echo "Invalid character \`$char\` found."
    else
       echo "Input is ok."

  • Help needed on integration of portal with ifs

    The requirement goes like this:
    I use IFS for Content management.
    I want to publish the jsps/ htmls lying on IFS on my oracle portal page.
    I need ways to integrate htmls/ jsps (lying on ifs) with portal page.

    Hi Chris
    You can subscribe to Muse subscription separately and host the site in BC.
    BC price list according to site plans :
    http://www.adobe.com/in/products/web-hosting/buying-guide.html
    Site plans breakdown :
    http://helpx.adobe.com/business-catalyst/kb/detailed-plan-breakdown.html
    With Muse subscription you get 1 free site to host with Adobe, So you can use the free site count and publish the site on BC, but the free site count is only for web hosting sites, if you are looking for CMS solution then you would need to upgrade site plan.
    Once you upgrade the site plan , it will be longer associated with your Muse subscription. In this case the site fee would be paid separately which you can setup directly to your customer.
    So invoice would be setup to customer and they will pay that monthly.
    In browser editing feature will be available for all site plans.
    Please let me know if you have any additional question or join live chat with BC support team.
    Thanks,
    Sanjit
