IFS on NT and ORacle8i on Linux
Hi there,
I am trying to install IFS on an NT box that talks to an oracle8i server on a Linux box.
I have installed a vanilla Oriacle8i on the Linux box with all the default passwords and made sure I followed the IFS instructions.
I then installed Oracle8i client on the NT box and I can use the DBA Studio to connect to the database on the Linux box.
Then I install IFS and run through the configuration assistant, which creates all the tables in the database and the ifssys user.
Then I try to start IFS using the ifsstart batch file and get asked for the usernames/passwords I use the defaults given in the documentation and receive the error message:
"Error launching iFS PROTOCOLS.
Consult the following log file for details:
E:\ifs\log\IfsProtocols.log
The error reported was:
Unable to start iFS ServerManager
Invalid credentials specified"
then anther box:
"Error launching iFS AGENTS.
Consult the following log file for details:
E:\ifs\log\IfsAgents.log
The error reported was:
Unable to start iFS ServerManager
Invalid credentials specified"
Looking at the log files gives me:

Oracle8i for Linux Release announcement
I received a copy of this Oracle marketing announcement today:
The Linux tidal wave continues and Oracle is right at the
forefront. We have
been experiencing tremendous demand on Linux since Oracle8 was
announced for
that platform last October. Over 50,000 developers have
downloaded Oracle8
for Linux from Oracle Technology Network (OTN) since March, with
the first
20,000 coming in just the first 10 days! We now have over 800
paying
customers with over half the orders coming from enterprise
accounts and most
of the remainder orders from mid-sized businesses.
This week Oracle is announcing the shipping of Oracle8i for
Linux. Already,
20,000 developers have registered for early access. With new
internet
technologies like Java and XML built right into Oracle8i for
Linux, this
release promises to be the hottest yet.
Read on for more information about:
- What are we announcing?
- What are the key messages?
- What is the pricing for Oracle8i on Linux?
- Why does Oracle care about Linux?
- Who are Oracle's major Linux Partners?
- Which products are available on Linux?
- Who is driving the Oracle on Linux effort and what are we
doing?
- Where to find more information about Oracle on Linux?
What are we announcing?
Oracle is announcing today that it has been receiving extremely
strong demand
for its Linux based products over the past quarter and is also
shipping
Oracle8i for Linux to manufacturing.
What are the key messages?
Linux represents the ultimate commodity operating system -- its
fast, reliable
and almost free! Businesses can now spend their time focusing on
the higher
value software they buy to run their businesses (such as
databases and applications).
With over 800 customers paying for Oracle on Linux, Linux is
progressing from
its roots as a student and developer operating system to a viable
deployment
environment in large business.
Oracle has the best database on Linux. With over 50,000 people
using Oracle8
and over 20,000 people registered through Oracle Technology
Network (OTN) for
Oracle8i, Oracle is the overwhelming choice for the Linux
operating system.
What is the pricing for Oracle8i on Linux?
Pricing of Oracle8i on Linux follows the standard Oracle price
list (see
http://appsweb.us.oracle.com/amapp/). Linux may be a freeware
operating
system, but Oracle on Linux is not free. Oracle does offer
developer licenses
through Oracle Technology Network (OTN) which allows developers
to use Oracle
software for non-commercial use.
Why does Oracle care about Linux?
Linux is hot! It is rapidly becoming the preferred platform for
small ISP's
and is used extensively by many of the internet's largest portal
sites. For
Oracle, Linux is the fastest growing operating system, growing at
three times
that of WindowsNT. Oracle on Linux presents customers a viable
low-cost, yet
highly stable alternative to WindowsNT. That said, with 46% of
the NT market,
Oracle is also the best selling database on NT!
Oracle now has over 800 customers on Linux. This statistic alone
strongly
contradicts the common perception that Linux is solely used by
students and
developers. Linux has already established a foothold in many
Fortune 100
companies and although deployments are still currently small
compared to NT
and Solaris, they are accelerating rapidly.
Which products are available on Linux?
Currently available on Linux are:
- Oracle8.0.5 Standard and Enterprise Edition
- Oracle8i Release 8.1.5
- Oracle Application Server 4.0.7 (40 Bit)
- Oracle Application Server 3.0.2 (40 Bit)
- Oracle WebDB 2.0.5.6.1
Who are Oracle's major Linux Partners?
Redhat Software - Linux distributors. Oracle has also made an
equity
investment in RedHat. (http://www.redhat.com)
Caldera System - Linux distributors. Novell spin-off, focus
primarily on
enterprise customers. (http://www.caldera.com)
Turbolinux - Linux distributor. Has a mostly Asia presence.
VA Linux Systems - Hardware vendor, making Linux systems.
Linuxcare - Linux support provider. (http://www.linuxcare.com)
Who is driving the Oracle on Linux effort?
There are two teams within Oracle working closely to drive the
Oracle strategy
and goals on Linux: Internet Platform Marketing and the Linux SBU
(Strategic
Business Unit).

business markets.
Oracle also announced the general availability of Oracle8i on
Linux, after a
successful early adopter's program.
Since Oracle Corp. announced Oracle8 on Linux, there have been
over 50,000

NT or use one of the shareware database servers available for
Linux," says
Jonathan August, President and CEO of Internection, Inc., a
company providing
customized Internet services solutions to businesses, including
web hosting
and e-commerce solutions. "Neither solution provided us the
security,
performance, manageability or reliability required by our
customers. Oracle

a result,
we've gained access to customers ranging from small businesses to
Fortune 100
enterprises like Prudential and Pfizer. Our total revenue since
the addition

"Oracle on Linux combines enterprise level reliability,
scalability and
performance with a free, robust and well-supported operating
system," says
Nick Marden, technical director of e-commerce, Xoom.com, and
e-commerce
service provider. "It enables Xoom.com to better understand our
members'
needs and respond to them quickly. Oracle on Linux represents an
extraordinary value and it gets the job done."
"Oracle is committed to bringing superior technology to the Linux
community,"
says Chuck Rozwat, senior vice president of Server Technologies
at Oracle.
"Oracle8i on Linux comes with both Java and XML built right in.
Together they
offer the most cost-effective way to deploy scalable Internet
applications."
Oracle8i is the first and only database specifically designed for
the
Internet. Oracle8i extends Oracle's long-standing technology
leadership in
the areas of data management, transaction processing and data
warehousing to

and Oracle's
Internet development tools.
Oracle Corporation is the world's leading supplier of software
for information
management, and the world's second largest software company.
With annual
revenues of more than $8.8 billion, the company offers its
database,
application server, tools and application products, along with
related
consulting, education and support services, in more than 145
countries around
the world.

nullYeah, I got a couple of those....but if you go to Oracle, there
is nothing about it, and nothing new on the OTN download...
We can hope...

Problem in Instalation of Oracle8i on Linux
Hi,
I hav downloaded the oracle8i from linux from oracle site.
Performed all the pre-configuration steps of
set env variables like PATH, ORACLE_BASE, ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID and LD_ASSUME_KERNEL after connecting as oracle.
made for mount points namely /u01, /u02, /u03, /u04
made users (oinstall and oracle) and groups (oinstall, dba, etc)
as root user executed the command xhost +
after doing all this when I run the script /runInstaller it does not displays OUI.
It does not give any error, and shows a grey coloured rectangular box, and that is it.
jre process runs in the background taking more than 95% of CPU time.
plz help me on this. thanx-a-ton in adavnce.
regards,
Saket MaheshwaryI'm not an expert but i had the same problem when I untarred the download file and burned a CD in windows. I would suggest that you put the tar file on a CD and untar it in unix/linux

There have been a number of messages with reference to
performance comparisons of one sort or another.
I decided to do a controlled, fair test of these two products
with respect to their data warehousing peformance.
I created a schema with 3 dimension tables ( 300,10000,1000 rows)
and 1 fact table ( 1000000 rows )
I designed 3 queries.
I decided to test two things
1) bulk load speed
2) query response times for the 3 queries
I used identical hardware ( HP Vectra P200 48M Ram + 2.1G
Quantum ). Software was RedHat 5.2 + Oracle8.0.5.1 and Nt 4.0
Sp4 + SQl7 ( 120 Day Tril...). Both databases were configured
similarly ( fixed 16M Memory ).

: Query2 1 1 ( watch that tab key)
Query3 4 3
The bulk load was performed using Dts (sql7) and sqlldr (Oracle8)
To get to the query execution times indexes were created using
output from Microsofts "Query Analyzer" product ( really good
product by the way and comes with Sql7... ). The queries were
run from Query Analyzer(sql7) and Sqlplus (Oracle8)
So what to conclude ?
Oracle8 on Linux is slightly quicker in general - not
sigificantly so however.
During testing when the "optimal" set of indexes were not there,
it was discovered that Oracle8 was much better at doing joins
involving large datasets. However the Query Analyzer made it so
easy to improve the situation that the 2 products even out
here...
Therefore I would say that they are both good databases with
respect to data warehouse purposes.
Notes etc :
What were the queries ?
For anyone who is interested I will send data on the schema and
queries ( mail me ).
What did I mean by fair ?
I had not decided which database / os was going to win before I
started.
I used only features common to both databases. Therefore I did
not use partitioning (oracle8) or clustered indexes ( sql7).I
was liasing with a Sql7 developer ( I'm an oracle boy myself )
concerning setting up Sql7.
I hope some people find this interesting
Cheers

Oracle8 and Oracle8i (Migrating)
How can I migrate from Oracle8 to Oracle8i. The migration

Srini,
The major features that are in Oracle8i and are not in Oracle8
are the following:
1) Java and internet capabilities are in Oracle8i and these
are not in Oracle8
2) JVM - Java Virtural Machine also known as JServer, this
allows developer to create applications in Java, PL/SQL
or OCI
3) iFS - Internet File System, this allows the database to
store relational and non-relation data files is present
in Oracle8i and this is not in Oracle8.
4) Oracle8i comes with interMedia which allows user to access
multi-media data.
5) Oracle8i comes with WebDB, a web developement environment.
These are the major differences and I hope it helps. For
complete new features, please refer to Oracle8i manual.

If i don't want to waste the huge amount of time in downloading
Oracle8 for Linux, what others way i could get it ? (could i buy
one?)
nullOracle8 for Linux is only available on Intel, however,
it is heavily rumoured that an Alpha port will be made
available this or next quarter. This rumour was reported
at: http://www.alphalinux.org/
If you are running Digital Unix on it, then it would have
nothing to do with Linux. You would have to buy Oracle8
for Digital Unix (I believe only available in Enterprise
Edition). You could, however, replace Digital Unix with
Linux, and then install Oracle8 for Linux/Alpha, if it is
indeed released. Personally, I think DEC Unix is still one
of the most advanced server OS' out there, and if you've
already paid for it, then use it. But it would definitely
be cheaper to use Linux & O8 (workgroup edition), than O8
(enterprise edition) on DEC Unix (which generally starts
at around US$15,000 w/support), if you don't actually need
the enterprise features. Of course, this also assumes that
your Alpha is Linux-compatible.

About path and classpath in linux
How to set classpath and path in Linux.
thank you very much! The class path can be set using either the -classpath option when calling an SDK tool (the preferred method) or by setting the CLASSPATH environment variable. The -classpath option is preferred because you can set it individually for each application without affecting other applications and without other applications modifying its value.
% sdkTool -classpath path1:path2...
-or-
% setenv CLASSPATH path1:path2...
where:
sdkTool
A command-line tool, such as java, javac, or javadoc. For a listing, see SDK Tools.
path1:path2
Paths to the .jar, .zip or .class files. Each path should end with a filename or directory depending on what you are setting the class path to:
For a .jar or .zip file that contains .class files, the path ends with the name of the .zip or .jar file.
For .class files in an unnamed package, the path ends with the directory that contains the .class files.
For .class files in a named package, the path ends with the directory that contains the "root" package (the first package in the full package name).
Multiple path entries are separated by colons.
The default class path is the current directory. Setting the CLASSPATH variable or using the -classpath command-line option overrides that default, so if you want to include the current directory in the search path, you must include "." in the new settings.
Classpath entries that are not either a directory or an archive (.zip or .jar file) are ignored. -
Installing 11i apps on windows xp and Red Hat linux AS 3.0
Hi,
I am a newbie to Oracle E-business suite............i will be very helpful if anybody could help me with the full procedure on how to install Oracle apps on windows on Windows XP and Red Hat linux AS 3.0.........starting with configuring ip.....i would really appreciate if somebody helps me out...........well thanks in advance..waiting for a optmistic reply...
Thanks again,
VirendraI have done installation on XP and 2000 servers are heres the steps... detailed ones. I also request those who install Oracle Apps 11i to first read the installtion pdf's which helps you understand clearly the prerequisites overall.
You cannot find the Pre installtion steps(such as Mks Toolkit and GNUMake config) in more clear terms from those documents.Which are explained here.
The Must PDF's to refer before installation
1)r1152ins.pdf
2)11iconcepts.pdf
According to the 11iconcepts PDF you can decide your business needs the N-Tier Architecture and Database Server and Application Tier Server File System in a very clear terms.
The installation process can be divided into
Pre Installtion,Installation and Post-Installation stages.
I would caution everyone to concentrate more on Pre Installation stage and which is more critical for a successfull installtion of Oracle Apps and to be free with later cropping up problems.
Further before moving into Installtion stages i have to Explain the Number of CD's and Installtion type's in Oracle App's.
In many places you may need to wait patiently even more than 10 minutes for screens(Dialog Boxes) to appear dont conclude prematurely some problem on system.
In oracle Apps 11.5.1 it consist of 12 CD's.
1) Start Here CD(RAPID Installation Wizard)
2)1-11 CD's
1-3 Application Top information
4th Oracle DB
5-6 IAS and other tools
7-11 Oracle Apps DB.
You have to decide whether you are going to do a Single Node Installation(No Post-Installation Task) or Multi Node Installation. Refer(r1152ins.pdf)
While installing for Multi Node you can see the Installation locations to be mentioned as
Appl_Top,Common_Top,Data_Top etc.Try to install Appl_top and common_Top in one drive and Data_Top in another Drive(Single Node) and in different nodes in Multi Node installation.

Softwares on System
Win2000 server with Patch1,Winzip and Acrobat Reader Latest version etc.
Install VC++:
Install a clean installtion of VC++ of Visual Studio Family 6.0
It should be first installed before installing MKS or GNUMAKE
NOTE: When Visual C++ is installed, let the installer register all environment variables. This will allow executables to be linked from the command line.
How to Download and install MKS tool Kit:
Note:Try to purchase the MKS tool kit from the below site.
or try to download the trial version valid for a months time.
http://www.mkssoftware.com/products/tk/ds_tkio.asp
Evaluation copy from
http://www.mkssoftware.com/eval/
Choose "MKS Toolkit for Interoperability " Download it in C:\
Again you have to click the downloaded kit to start the actual download of 38 MB of MKS tollkit Evaluation version.
You will be sent a Demo serial number to your mail id==>copy the same to a Notepad on your desktop.
Now start the installtion of the MKSToolkit on your system by clicking on the MKStoolkit downloaded.
It will prompt you for the Demo serial number which has to be provided.
The MKStoolkit will be successfully installed.
How to Download and Configure GNUMAKE:
1) HOW TO GET AND INSTALL GNUMAKE ON WINDOWS2000
This can be done by performing the following steps:
NOTE: Please, be aware that you must install Visual C++ BEFORE installing GNUMAKE, because its installation process involves linking executables.
1) Before downloading GNUMAKE, you will need to acquire some utilities which will be used for unpacking files. You can obtain the required utilities at the following
URL: ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/windows/emacs/utilities/i386/
The directory contains the following files:
README
djtarnt.exe
gunzip-1.2.4-i386.exe
gzip-1.2.4-i386.exe
tar-1.11.2-i386.exe
tar-1.11.2a.exe
Only two of the files are required:
gunzip-1.2.4-i386.exe and tar-1.11.2a.exe
2) After downloading the above files, rename them as follows:
gunzip-1.2.4-i386.exe => gunzip.exe
tar-1.11.2a.exe => tar.exe
Place them into a directory that you can set in you PATH environment variable.
3) Point your browser to the following
URL: ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/make
The files needed from this directory are:
make-3.77.tar.gz
make-3.78.1.tar.gz
make-3.79.1.tar.gz
make-3.79.tar.gz
Development requires to install version 3.77 or above. Downloading the latest version is perhaps best decision, but there are advantages to downloading the version required by development (3.77). (This document assumes that version 3.77 has been downloaded) (NOTE: AVOID USING SPACES IN
DIRECTORY AND FILE NAMES. GNUMAKE,VISUAL C++, ETC. DO NOT ALWAYS DEAL WELL WITH SPACES)
4) For instance, suppose you have downloaded file make-3.77.tar.gz on a directory called C:\GNUMAKE, unpack this file using gunzip.exe from a Command Prompt Window
Example: C:\GNUMAKE>gunzip make-3.77.tar.gz This last action, will expand file make-3.77.tar.gz and the extension .gz will be removed.
5) On the same Command Prompt Window, you should UnTAR the file, with the following
command: C:\GNUMAKE>tar -xvf make-3.77.tar This will create a new subdirectory called MAKE-3.77 under C:\GNUMAKE, the original directory.
6) In the new subdirectory, there is a batch file
called build_w32.bat; run the batch file to generate GNUMAKE.EXE
Try this from Command Prompt more than once if succesfully not built message appers till you get Generated successfully.
Note:If Possible run all the bat files in the MAKE-3.77 and also config.bat in the sub directory by double clicking it.
WARNING: There is a known issue with this last step, "GNU make fails to build regardless of chosing build_w32 or nmake"
See [NOTE:115937.1]
for work around. RELATED DOCUMENTS ----------------- For Microsoft Visual C++, MKS Toolkit and
GNUMAKE support, you should contact their respective vendors Microsoft Visual C++, MKS Toolkit

http://www.gnu.org/ Note:104010.1: Release 11i on NT: Software Requirements
Note:115937.1: GNU Make won't make on windows NT
Important:All the downloaded files from GNU makes web sites shall be put in a single folder called gnumake under c:\ .Try to search for config.bat file inside this folders just click and
run it.
Env path setting:
Try to search make.exe generated in c:\program files\mkstoolkit\mksnt and copy and paste it
c:\gnumake\MAKE-3.77\windebug and c:\gnumake\MAKE-3.77\winRel also paste both this paths in the
My Computers==>Properties==>Advanced==>Environment variables==>Path setting's
After all this check as follows from CMD mode.
1)execute make at c:\>
2)execute gnumake at c:\>
In win2000 it may return error messages or Target wrong ignore it.If it is on Win NT then it will return proper status.
Create Applmgr user in Win2000:
Create a Applmgr user account in win2000 .
Installation:
=============
What here you require is the Patience .
Load the START HERE CD and run the C:\> cd \cdrom\rapidwiz
For Test and Prod it will ask for the location of Appl_Top,Common_Top and Data_Top location. Mention there path and ensure if more than one installtion say eg.Vision and Test or Prod to check the Path in all the tab pages its corresponding values and path's.
In Vision Demo many of the Options are not propmted from the user.
It will then do the system checking for Host Name and other details. All the checking should have been passed or if failed it will mark it in RED cross mark.Rectify the mistake and then onceagain proceed or else you will have problem after installation.
The Installation time takes around 5 to 6 Hrs of time.
For info on Post installation or on Multi Node follow the pdf's i have mentioned above.
The most tedious of all is succesfully crossing the Apps system checking it does for all
installed products it requires without any failure.
The GNUMAKE configuration or steps were nowhere given and it was all our trail and error exp.
This is possibly the most elaborate steps to install Apps on Win. post for further help. email me at [email protected] or [email protected]

Are the prompts for UCCX 7 (windows based) and UCCX 9 (Linux Based) are different ?
There are no default prompts available in the script editor folder of UCCX 9.
I have downloaded some prompts from the internet with .wav format, but those prompts are not working.
Can someone tell me if the prompts are different and if they are really different, where to get those prompts then ?
I have also attached the prompts i have downloaded from the internet.Nope, there's no difference. UCCX uses either G711 or G729 encoded files. You have to encode them first before you upload them. UCCX will not encode them like CUCM does for MOH files. In fact, you can use CUCM's MOH file encoding to encode your files for use within UCCX.
Also, you will not see the system prompts on your workstation where you installed the script editor.
What is it that you are trying to do?

Hello all,

Can I install Windows XP onto my Linux-Netbook and same way Linux on my Windows Netbook?
I wanna use Suse for all my net applications and still wanna Windows for just old games running on a long trip as flights ect..
Is it possible? Install booth?
Thanks
Message Edited by ykin on 01-24-2009 12:43 PMBoot Camp will only let you install onto an internal disk. This is largely because of Windows restrictions, not Mac OS restrictions. The beta thread has some supposed approaches to let you do this, using manual steps instead of using Boot Camp Assistant.

1. thanks for not simply posting a link
2. that search would return threads regarding this problem on 32bit hosts - i run a 64bit host. my main concern is that this would install incompatible 32bit binaries.
1. You're welcome. Self-help is the best kind.
2. If you'd done the search I recommended you would have seen that the problem is not related to arch at all, but is due to upstream renaming.
