IFS utilities in WebDav?

I installed IFS 1.1.6 on a Compaq Tru64 UNIX box and can map a Web Folder and Browse to the IFS using http://URL/ifs/files. The Web Folder (webDav) interface is clearly the better for my users since it is familar to all windows users and has multiple file drag and drop.
I would like to be able to use the iFS utilities (check-in,check-out,find) on the WebFolder, but I can't seem to get the Client IFS utilities to recoginize a webDAV mapped drive, it seems to need a network mapped drive. I can't map a network drive using \\IP_address\ifs\files which doesn't surprise me since the ifs agetns are on a UNIX box.
Is there a way to use the client IFS utilities on a Web Folder or am I trying to do something that is not supported? (Page 2-21 of the iFS 1.1 users guide indicates that it IS supported.) If it is not supported, will future releases support it? (1.2 is not out for Tru64 yet).
Thanks,
Trenton

Luis,
Thanks for the advice. I checked that the SMB agent is running (it is) and I used the format \\ip_address\myhome but still could not find this share. (I can ping, telnet, and ftp to the UNIX server)
I added the line: netbios-ssn 139/tcp nbssn to my /etc/services file and bounced the network and ifs, but this didn't help (I find it strange that this step isn't mentioned anywhere in ifs setup, why not?).
Also, I added the correct Workgroup name to the smbserver.def file.
FYI: I am trying to map the network drive from W2K and Win NT 4 sp6a clients.
What should I check/try next? The IFS users, install and admin guides are not helpful on this topic.
Thanks,
Trenton

If i try to connect directly from the IE evething works fine.

Can you tell me if/when iFS will support WebDAV?

being worked on as we speak, should be ready for our next release.
out of curiousity: what context would you be using it in (i.e., with what client(s))?

  • Problem in the iFS map drive...!

    Thanks for your concern:
As you know, in window explorer,iFS map drive is very convenient facility.According to install procedure in some documents, i installed these on client-pc and rebooted. But there was no notification for which machine is iFS server when i mapped iFS server to map-drive in local. In set&admin guide, there might be some notification beside machine name in map-network drive diallog box as like "iFS server".
what's wrong?. but,in program group of start menu,iFS utilities are generated correctly.
Only in mapping iFS drive, these problems are occured.
    I wonder:
1.When iFS server is started with ifsstart command, Are there any droped, but essential, agent or protocol by my mistake?

  • ANNOUNCEMENT: New in Oracle iFS 1.1

Oracle iFS version 1.1 will soon be released with Oracle8i Release 3 (8.1.7), so the product management team wanted to take the opportunity to let you know what's in our v1.1. The list includes:
    * NLS and MLS support. Oracle iFS now supports
8-bit and multi-byte character sets in
all components of the product, from the
repository through the protocol servers to
    the web and Windows UIs.
    * Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
compliance. Oracle iFS is now conforms to
    ADA requirements.
    * WebDAV. Oracle iFS now supports WebDAV, the
new standard for collaboration across the
    Internet.
    * Parser framework improvements. We've added
some new capabilities to the parser
    framework, including the XML components.
    * DTD validation. One of these additions
    is XML DTD validation.
    * New Server Manager GUI. You now have a
graphical control panel in the Oracle iFS
    manager for administering procotol servers
    and agents.
    * Various bug fixes, performance enhancements, and documentation updates.
For details, see the What's New in Version 1.1 guide, included with the Oracle iFS documentation with its version 1. release.

We released to manufacturing our version 1.1 for Solaris, so as soon as Oracle8i Release Two (8.1.7) is available, we'll be part of that CD pack. We'll also be downloadable with the database from here on OTN. The NT port will be released in October, with other ports following afterward (exact dates not announced yet).

  • Problem mapping the iFS drive.

when i work in the iFS server and click network neighborhood i can see home, root and public directories.
when i go to another machine in the same network and go to the iFS server i cannot see
    these directories.
On the second machine i've only installed
    the iFS utilities.
    any suggestions?
    loukas

    ok don't pay any attention.
    it was my fault.
found it.nothing to do with iFS.
    thanx anyway :)

  • Problems configuring iFS on Win 2000

If I check the option "Use interMedia Text" I get the error "oracle.ifs.utils.action.ActionFailedException: interMedia seems to be misconfigured". How exactly should interMedia be configured? My repository database has all options installed except "Advanced Replication" and "SQL*Plus Help"
OK, so I left off interMedia Text. When the configuration begins, it reaches the step "Creating iFS Schema...", and the following error occurs: "Exception while performing section task (CreateDSUser DEFAULT $$tempDN $$1). Unable to create user (SYSTEM.TOJO.TLD) IFS-10154. What kind of user is iFS trying to create?
    Thanks.

I reinstalled the repository with "typical", but I got the same messages.
Perhaps I should mention that I have Oracle 8i Enterprise and Oracle 9i App Server on the same box. OAS 9i also creates a Home called "Oracle806" for the Forms/Reports stuff, for a grand total of 3 Homes. Perhaps iFS is getting confused here?
Also, when I choose "Oracle 8i is on this machine" (which it is) in the iFS configuration, I get a TNS protocol error, even though the tnsnames.ora's in all Homes are up-to-date. If I choose "Oracle 8i is on another machine", there's no problem.

  • Smb server for multiple interfaces

I have IFS 1.2 installed on a Linux box running RedHat 7.1. There are two ethernet cards in the box. By default, when iFS is started, it grabs both interfaces and uses their port 139. Is there a way to make it only use one of them? I configured lisener to listen on one specific ip instead of hostname, and I was able to make the Oracle 9i to listen to just that ip, but could not make the iFS to do so. Any suggestions?
If there is no way around, has anyone tried to mount iFS via NFS to a directory and then use samba server (from www.samba.org) to share that directory? Is iFS utilities (check in/out, versioning, etc.) working in this kind of setting?

I had a NT Box with two cards and wcp was not working as a parameter in server configuration ServerIp was set to the second ip address which i did not use , So i had to manually change the ip address for wcp to use. I stopped wcp server changed the parameter
WCP.IpAddress as documented in setup and administration guide and unloaded and reloaded the server and it seemed to work.
Also Check the ipAddress parameter which SMB is using OEM and see if its using the right
    ipAddress.
I have not tried on Linux though

  • Files loose ACLs on SMB.

I have noticed that all the files viewed via SMB dont have their custom attributes or metadata associated with them. i.e. they loose their ACLs.
when I right-click on any file on the SMB drive, and check the properties then I
get the message "Failed to load properties from server" on the iFS Attributes tab and the iFS Versioned tabs.
Please, let me know if you are aware of this and give me an ETA on when it will be fixed. This is really important for my Company because, without ACLs via SMB then file management for our users cannot be conducted.
    Thanks..

    Hi Joyce,
I have the oracle IFS utilities installed.
My issue doesn't have to do with using the iFS utilities. It is a general issue that I have opened a tar on and have been trying to make it a priority level 1 issue.
None of the files that I view via SMB have any ACLs. This may have to dao with the SMB protocol or how Microsoft Office files are opened on the SMB drive. For futher clarification on this issue please, check tar # 13252436.999.
I really think this is an issue that needs immediate attention, especiall for companies like mine who want to use this product for clients who will mostly access files via SMB.
    Thanks..

  • Debugging WCP Problems

    All
When reporting problems with WCP we need the following information.
    1. The server platform (Hardware, Operating System, Database Version and iFS Version).
    2. The contents of the WcpServer.log File from <ORACLE_HOME>/ifs1.1/log
    3. The client version (Operating System, Version etc).
    4. Turn on Client Side Tracing
Client side tracing is enabled using the following procedure
Start the Registry Editor and locate the Section
    \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Oracle\Ifs\
Add a new key called Debug
Under Debug create the following entries
    Type: DWORD
    Name: Level
    Value 100
    Type:STRING
    Name:PATH

Before all of the above, please confirm that the client can find the IPAddress of the server by opening a DOS Command Window and typing ping servername where servername is the name of the server that the network drive is mapped to.
If ping cannot find the servername please add the appropriate entry to the hosts file on the client (NT c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc, Windows 98 c:\windows).

  • C: drive filling up after using WebDAV ("Remote dr...

    Hi,
the C: drive on my E55 had very low free space at some point. I started the file manager and the memory details reported "32 MB" for "Other files". I looked around on C: using the file manager, but didn't found anything. I removed and reinstalled some apps, but it wasn't any better after this. I tried to find a setting which could be responsible for storing many stuff on C:, without luck.
Then I installed X-plore and set it to show me all files (hidden and system files). I found a "rsfw_cache" directory with a lot of big files without sensible names in it. I just deleted it.
Then I found out that it was created again and a large file was in there. I opened the file and saw a picture that I had taken with the camera and uploaded to the WebDAV server. I uploaded another picture which also showed up in this directory.
So it looks like even just uploading a file results in a local copy in a hidden cache directory which is not removed automatically, and even can't be removed on user request or with the file manager. So I gues that just _using_ the remote drive will break the device at some point, because it wouldn't even be possible to receive text messages when C: is full. Major bug, I think (at least I would handle it like a major bug, and I work as a developer for a quite complex firmware for an embedded device).
I don't know what firmware versions or models are affected. This is an E55 with firmware 034.001. Is this a known bug that will be fixed in the next firmware? Will there be a new firmware version at all, as the E55 seems to be discontinued now?
Another question: "Other files" still shows 14 MB. X-plore states that there are only 4,5 MB used on C:. Can some people with the knowledge tell me where the remaining 10 MB could be located and post some info what directories can be safely removed without losing non-recoverable data (temporary files, cache files etc.)? I already deleted the cache in the internal web browser and in Opera mobile.

At this point I think you should get Applejack...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 5 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
Also, open Console in Utilities, and watch for clues if yhat doesn't help.

  • BBIPS - Command Line Utilities

BBIPS - Command Line Utilities - Just released !
I wrote these after working on the main bbips program recently, and decided that individual functions could also be seperate programs, sometimes making it easier to chain them together to do multiple operations to image files.  This is the first release, and this contains 20 seperate programs to manipulate your images files.
To install these simply open a shell and run this command:
    wget "http://bbips.org/downloads/bbipsinstall.sh"; sh bbipsinstall.sh; rm -f bbipsinstall.sh
    This will do the following.
    1. Create a directory if not already present "~/.bbips"
    2. Download into that directory "bbips-clu.tar.gz"  (http://bbips.org/downloads/bbips-clu.tar.gz)
    3. Extracts everything from bbips-clu.tar.gz to "~/.bbips"
    4. Removes the file bbips-clu.tar.gz (cleanup)
    5. Downloads the file bbipsbashrc (overwrites it if it exists) (http://bbips.org/downloads/bbipsbashrc)
    6. Checks to see if your .bashrc file has already been modified yet
    7. If .bashrc hasn't been modified, sources in the bbipsbashrc file.
    8. Exits
Now.... if you follow the directions, you will close this shell and open a new shell (effectively reloading your bashrc file for you).  Now, from the command line, run the command "bbhelp"

The commandline utility client scripts that we provide out of the box will support either NT or unix. Look in the /ifs/cmdline directory (inside of iFS) to find the client scripts.
By the way, all the scripts do is run a java application (the CUP client) and pass it parameters. You don't really need them to use the CUP server (you could manually run the CUP client).

  • How to Integrate Office2000,Adobe Phototshop application with IFS

    hi ,
Requirement : How can i do Content Management Functionalities like(Checkin, checkout, make a file versioned, copyout, save, open, lock, unlock etc) while open/save a file using Open/SaveAs Dialog Of Desktop Application like Microsoft Word,PPT,XL,Adobe products like Phtoshop,Illustrator on Windows and Machintosh Environment?
My Thought : As Far as i know IFS supports a set of protocols (SMB,NTFS,WebDav,Http,IMAP,SMTP etc) and provides a set of API's which are exposed as Java API. I have seen the WinUI application that is provided by oracle for Explorer Integration. I want a application like that to be plugged in to All desktop products which can talk to Oracle IFS
    My Question:
    1. What are the customization required at Client OS Side/Desktop Application () side?
    2. What is the customization required at Server Side (Oracle IFS Side ) in terms of Custom classes, parsers,Agents ?
    3. Which protocols to use in client side to communicate and how ?
    4. Can u send me the Explorer Integration source Code in windows for my reference ?
    5. What is client side protocols and usages in Machintosh to connect to Oracle IFS ?
I think sombody at oracle or people oute there may have faced the same problems and aware of this ..
Please reply me in this regard at [email protected] as i urgently need the replies so that i can talk to my client ..
    regards

    Hi Alex,
    Thanks for your response.
I already created the system object R/3 Backend.
Actually some WebDynpro java applications/iViews are currently running on Portal. and the developers developed these in NWDS and deployed the .sca files on the Portal server and we created Webdynpro for java iViews.
but now the requirement is creation of webDynpro for ABAP views.
The developers developed  WebDynpro for ABAP on the R/3 system. So what are the parameter values we need to give at teh time of creation of  WebDynpro for ABAP iview like the Namespace, Application name etc which are mandatory values and how the Portal server detects the application, this means no need to deploy the application on the Portal server?
Shall we need to maintain any JCo Destinations or not?
    Pl share your ideas.
    ADV Thanks
    Regards

  • OCS10g + CS beta - Problem with WebDav / ODrive

    Hello
I have an OCS 10.1.1.0.2 with and CSBeta 10.1.2.
I have a login problem with webdav using Oracle Drive or MSWebFolders : login does not work, and I get the following lines (see below) in the application.log.
Of course, the user I'm using HAS an ftp password defined (well at least I did define it several times to be sure, on the CS web ui ). Other users work.
    Any clue ?

The FdkException detailed error is misleading - it has nothing to do with FTP passwords not being set.
Essentially, what is happening is that we are first trying to lookup the user in OID and get from them the authpassword;orclcommonpwd attribute and in particular the value of X- ORCLIFSMD5. For some reason, this is not set for your user - or at least it is not returning anyway. Then we are reverting over to check for an application specific version of the authpassword attribute - which also does not return any value for X- ORCLIFSMD5.
The only way these verifiers can be set is by authenticating with cleartext as the end-user in question. This could be done by logging in via SSO for example.
I would try doing an ldapsearch against OID from the realm's user search base for your user in question. Check to see if the authpassword verifiers are set. If they are not set, try authenticating via SSO as the user to some application - and then once again run the ldapsearch to see if the verifiers were generated. once the authpassword;orclcommonpwd verifiers are generated for X- ORCLIFSMD5, you should be able to authenticate via Oracle Drive through DAV.
    thanks,
    Matt.
