Ignore certain callers automatically

Does anyone now if it's possible to set up a ring profile so if certain contacts call then the phone will ring, but if anyone else calls the phone will send the caller to directly to voicemail?
I've had a few phones with this capability and it's quite nice when you're trying to sleep and don't want the phone ringing anytime someone calls, but you do want it to ring if a family member calls.

Tim,
What you mentioned definitely sounds helpful.
Here's how the Nokia (and my Sony Ericson) works:
I can set up a number of different ring profiles.
One is silent, and when this is on, I hear nothing and calls go straight to voicemail. I can still see missed calls and read text messages so this is better than turning off the phone.
Another is Normal and the phone rings for everyone nice and loud. I can also mute this which puts it in a vibrate mode. Good thing to do before running into a meeting.
Now the last setting (and the one this thread is about) is what I've named Family mode. When I choose this profile, the phone will only accept calls from people I've put in the "accept calls from" list. This will make it so the phone only rings if my mom, dad, brother, sister, etc. is calling me. Everyone else will go straight to voicemail and I don't need to repopulate the list, or change the ring settings for individual callers.
As I've mentioned, it's quite useful when I'm expecting an important call, but I don't want to be bothered by anyone except that important caller.
When I'm done and I want my drunk friends to bother me again, I put the phone into normal mode. Now everyone can reach me.
This obviously isn't a crucial function, but it is nice to have and I don't see any technical reason why the iPhone shouldn't have it. Afterall, phone 5 years old have it.
And again, Surprisingly, I have heard of "turning the phone off" but then it won't ring for my family members, so I don't consider that to be a very effective solution.

  • Ignore certain values when graphing

    Hi all,
    I am currently using labview to automatically QC check data from a weather station. I have one VI that checks the incomming data for errors and outputs the data with any corrections to a text file. I have another VI that opens the text file and graphs the results. If the first VI finds a obvious error, it exchanges the bad data point with -9999 to make sure the error is obvious. Therefore, a series of temperature data may start like this: 45,45.4,800,46.5,47.3 and end up like this 45,45.4,-9999,46.5,47.3
    My question is this. Is there anyway to have labview ignore certain values when graphing. I need the auto ranging feature turned on to insure that the graphs are legible, but if the -9999 value is included it creates a problem when the scales try to incorporate it. I need to be able to set labview to graph everything but to ignore the -9999 value when determining the scale. This would create an auto-ranged graph with the -9999 value simply going off the graph.
    Tim

    You can replace the -9999 values in your array data with the double precision value NaN (Not a Number - you can actually type that into a numeric control). LabVIEW will leave an empty spot when graphing, and it won't upset your autoscaling.

  • Looking for a good app so I can block certain callers

    I am trying to find an app which lets me block certain callers. I have a friend who drinks too much sometimes and decides to call me all night long. I don't want to turn my phone off because of business and family.  I have tried Iblacklist manager but there are not instructions or support available..
    Please help.
    Thanks.

    THANKS,
    AS I WAS WAITING FOR A RESPONSE (WHICH YOU ANSWERED VERY QUICKLY - THANKS) I WAS READING ABOUT MAKING A RINGTONE SILENT FOR THAT PERSON.  I THINK I WILL TRY THAT.  THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR QUICK RESPONSE.

  • Can I make Genius ignore certain songs in my l

    Is there a way to make Genius ignore certain songs when creating playlists? For example, if I create a playlist based on "Adult Alternative" music, Genius will frequently select some of my off-beat Christmas music.

    I'm not sure that playlists take up much space on an iPod, so what about a duplicate of the playlist in question without the songs you don't want?

  • Display a Custom Sum that will Ignore Certain values

    In addition to the sum that I am computing on Current Total Column in SQL Plus, I also want to do a Custom Sum on Current Total Column that will ignore certain values of the Current Total column, but displays at the same frequency as the break group. How can I do it in SQL Plus?

    Hi!
    I think you can use DECODE or user-defined function to create an artificial output column in your query ignoring certain values of the Current Total column and then just compute sum on it as you did on Current Total.

  • Rsyslog: ignore certain patterns

    I'm using certain entries in rsyslog.conf that look like this:
    :msg, contains, "foobar" ~
    How can I add the facility, priority and program name? For example, doing this only with patterns that come from imapd, or patterns that are sent to the debug priority, or kernel facility...
    Thanks in advance

    You can't ignore "certain" field names but you can use the
    b -afxon
    parameter to "discard unknown fields" (
    b all
    unknown fields). This can be hard coded as a parameter on the JFMERGE task or as a ^job parameter as long as the JFMERGE task includes the
    b @OtherJobTokens.
    parameter.

  • Re-trigger failed proxy message after certain time automatically in CRM

    Hi experts,
    Can anyone tell me if we can automate the process of re-triggering failed proxy messages in SAP CRM sxmb_moni, say after a certain period of time.
    Thanks
    Swapna .

    Hi Gigi,
    As stated in one of the blog (/people/sap.user72/blog/2005/11/29/xi-how-to-re-process-failed-xi-messages-automatically):
    For automatic qRfc failure recovery, Schedule the report RSQIWKEX to run periodically. This report enables automatically resets the queues.

  • Selectively ignore certain ORA messages

    Is it possible to create a mapping in which certain ORA error messages are ignored and handled as warnings and certain error messages are handled as fatal.
    E.g. We are updating dimension tables with a value that is too long, but don't want the mapping to fail because of that but to continue. On other dimension tables or fact tables we don't accept any errors and the whole process needs to stop.
    Any ideas of how to accomplish this?
    Thanks,
    Guido

    Now, this will slow the process down, but if you ran in row-based mode, and put a trigger on the table that handled that one error, then you could still trap for all others.
    For example, you could cause the update to do nothing if your field length was violated by:
    create or replace trigger yourtable_update_trig
    before update on yourtable
    for each row
    declare
    max_field_len number := 100; -- or whatever
    begin
    if length(:new.field1) > max_field_len then
    -- have the update do nothing of meaning to the row.
    :new.field1 := :old.field1;
    :new.field2 := :old.field2;
    :new.fieldN := :old.fieldN;
    end if;
    end;
    This would cause this update to do nothing (although it wouldn't help on an insert), and all other errors would still be raised as normal to be trapped by OWB.
    Still, would it not be better to come up with a better business rule than to simply ignore a data error in a dimension? e.g. truncate the field to a manageable size or something? Either the data is important, in which case it should be managed, or it isn't in which case why is it in the warehouse?
    Seems an odd approach, but that's just my opinion.

  • Ignore certain requests for Request Tracking

    Is it possible to ignore request data for requests matching a certain pattern? For example, we don't want any SignalR requests to get logged to App Insights because it is skewing the server request/response time metrics in our application.

    Hello Travis,
    I'm not aware of the way to cancel the certain kind of the requests from being sent. Let's see if someone else knows the way to do it (e.g. somehow cancel request from custom telemetry initializer if it matches the certain pattern...)
    There is a way for you to filter out the view, however, to exclude the request you do not want to look at. Metric Explorer allows to configure the metrics you'd like to see and apply several filters (in the menu on top) and groupings (in the menu when you
    click a chart) followed by moving this to the favorites/pinning on the start blade.
    So, if there is property to filter out SignalR in Metric Explorer, that would be a workaround. If no such property exists, you can create one via custom
    telemetry initializer to distinguish between SignaR and other requests.

  • Launchd ignores certain plist keys

    I'm trying to learn how to use launchd and launchctl in 10.6.6. I've created the following .plist:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
    <plist version="1.0">
    <dict>
    <key>label</key>
    <string>com.pconley.launchdtest</string>
    <key>ProgramArguments</key>
    <array>
    <string>/Users/pconley/bin/launchd_test.sh</string>
    </array>
    <key>OnDemand</key>
    <false/>
    <key>Nice</key>
    <integer>1</integer>
    <key>StartInterval</key>
    <integer>60</integer>
    <key>StandardErrorPath</key>
    <string>/Users/pconley/launchd_test.err</string>
    <key>StandardOutPath</key>
    <string>/Users/pconley/launchd_test.out</string>
    </dict>
    </plist>
    (copied from http://www.devdaily.com/mac-os-x/mac-osx-startup-crontab-launchd-jobs). It's is saved to ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.pconley.launchdtest.plist.
    The program launchd_test.sh is a one-line bash script that appends the date and time to a certain text file in my home directory. It runs properly from the shell.
    When I load the plist from launchctl it ignores my niceness and the StartInterval, and runs the job (giving correct output, and no error messages) every ten seconds. The same happens when I use StartCalendarInterval or StartOnMount (which is what I eventually want to be using).
    Am I doing something wrong, or is launchd?

    In my testing (which I did back in 10.6, so things may have changed - I’ll test again), if you try to load a QueueDirectories job that points to a non-existent directory path, the job disables itself and needs to be restarted explicitly.
    Again, try my testbench script for yourself. That’s not what it does.
    If I were going to do a launchd QD on a folder attached to a removable file system, I’d make it a two-stage process: have one job that watches for the file system to mount (using the StartOnMount key) and loads the second job that watches the folder.  That way you’re not depending on side effects to get main effects.
    That is an excellent idea. I’ll try it.
    Also, as an aside, QDs are annoyingly touchy.  It took me forever to realize that QDs will not reactivate even if there are invisible files present.  So, common fubar scenario: a QD watched folder gets opened in the Finder, a .DS_Store file is created, the QD script does not dispose of it: QD no longer fires.  Argh.
    That’s not what I’m seeing. As I wrote in this report,
    If you set QueueDirectories and launchd sees that the directories are  not empty after the job runs, it considers that to be a failure and  runs the job again after the ThrottleInterval expires. Therefore, if  you’re trying to set up a repeating job that runs only when a given  directory exists, you can’t use QueueDirectories for that purpose.
    bewst wrote:
    Considering I’m setting UserName=_news, I have to run it from there anyway.  I’m well aware of the permissions issues, thanks.
    The UserName key is only applicable when you are running the job as root, meaning it must be run as a LaunchDaemon, not a LaunchAgent.  Which, of course, I assume is what you’re doing.
    That is what I’m doing now, but of course I had to discover that the hard way. I find Apple’s documentation on launchd woefully inadequate. If it ever explicitly says that jobs in /Libraries/LaunchAgents are not run as root, I never saw it (no, saying that the job runs “on behalf of the user” does not necessarily imply it will be run as that user).
    bewst wrote:
    twtwtw wrote:For tasks that only need to run periodically, leave launchd to decide when to start and stop them.
    It’s not entirely clear what you mean by that.  Every plist file contains +some+ kind of specification (even if only implicit) about when jobs should be started or stopped.
    Yes, but my point was that you should leave launchd to determine when those conditions are met.
    I still don’t understand the distinction you’re pointing at. I never try to tell launchd that the conditions for start/stop are or aren’t met, and I wouldn’t know how to do so. As far as I can tell, it’s okay to use the mechanisms that Apple describes in “man launchd.plist,” and that’s all I’m trying to do.
    I’ve never had much success trying to co-opt a launchd trigger to do something it wasn’t specifically designed to do, the way you’re trying to co-opt the QD key.
    Well, the problem is that the documentation of these things and how they interoperate is so vague that it’s not at all clear exactly what they were specifically designed to do. The best I’ve been able to do is black-box testing to discover what to expect.
    As best I can figure, launchd is simple-minded (designed to be robust and quick rather than smart and flexible) so it doesn’t deal particularly well with novel approaches.
    How to know if what I’m doing is novel? Just try, I guess, and see if it works :-(
    bewst wrote:
    It’s probably overly cute, but I am trying to prevent launchd from even launching a process for my job if it shouldn’t run.  QueueDirectories seems to do that.
    Yeah, I figured; I frequently have that same kind of urge myself, and constantly have to fight against it. Meditate on the fact that you’re wasting of a heck of a lot of +human-scale+ time in an effort to save yourself a tidbit of +computer-scale+ resources that you simply will not ever miss.  Or at least, if your machine is running so tight that launching a momentary process actually creates a noticeable disruption in +anything+, you need a new machine. I’m a great fan of elegant code, yes, but I make sure it stops +well+ short of OCD.
    Yeah, I’ll cop to being a little bit obsessive about battery life.

  • Need help, trying to print strings backwards while ignoring certain things.

    To clarify the topic what I mean is I want to spell the words the user inputs backwards while skipping over certain characters. Here's my code:
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.util.*;
    import java.text.*;
    import java.io.*;
    class SConvert{
    private static final char BLANK = ' ';
    private static final String stop = "STOP";
    public static void main(String[] args){
    char[] ignore = new char[21];
    ignore[0] = '.';
    ignore[1] = '/';
    ignore[2] = '>';
    ignore[3] = '<';
    ignore[4] = ',';
    ignore[5] = '?';
    ignore[6] = '-';
    ignore[7] = '~';
    ignore[8] = '!';
    ignore[9] = '@';
    ignore[10] = '#';
    ignore[11] = '$';
    ignore[12] = '*';
    ignore[13] = '&';
    ignore[14] = '^';
    ignore[15] = '%';
    ignore[16] = '`';
    ignore[17] = '_';
    ignore[18] = '+';
    ignore[19] = '=';
    ignore[20] = '|';
    String word, statement, append;
    boolean go = true;
    int i, numOfchar, index;
    char[] chr;
    index = 0;
    word = " ";
    statement = " ";
    append = " ";
    Scanner scanner = new Scanner(System.in);
    while (go){
    System.out.println("Enter a word");
    word = scanner.next();
    chr = word.toCharArray();
    numOfchar = word.length();
    if (word.equals(stop)){
         break;
    else if (index < numOfchar && word.charAt(index) == BLANK + BLANK){
         index = BLANK;
    else if (index < numOfchar && word.charAt(index) == (int)ignore[19]){ //Trying to range for entire array, I don't know how.
         index++;
    else
           for (i = word.length() - 1; i >= 0; i--)
              statement = statement + chr;
              append = append + " " + statement;
    System.out.print(append + " ");
    What's messing me up is the fact that whenever I try to enter words into the program, printing append only repeat EVERY occurance of statement. For example, say I type in "Ham with gravy." I get "maH htiwmaH yvarghtiwmaH".
    That's not what I want. Also, I don't know how to make the entire array of ignore available to the program, anyway to do that?

    Wow. What's with the hostility? Even I was in error of detecting anything that could have solve the problem completely there's no need to use such a negative tone, epsecaility with someone who is learning to program in OOP, let alone the syntax of Java. Also, no your program did not solve all of my problems in it's original form. Let's take a look at it.
    Here's your code:
    import java.lang.String;
    import java.util.*;
    public class ReverseString {
      public void ReverseString(){
      public void printReverse(String s){
         int i;
        String noPrint = "no print'";
        char ch = '*';
        if(s.length()>1) printReverse(s.substring(1));
         ch = s.charAt(0);
        if (!noPrint.contains(ch + " ")) System.out.print(ch);
        return;
      public static void main(String[] args) {
          String myString = Here is my String.;
       System.out.print("My String: " + myString + " Reverse: ");
       new ReverseString().printReverse(add);
       System.out.println();
    }In it's original state the program doesn't allow for any user input, which is something I needed (and added on my own), it doesn't convert the ignore[] I had in my original code to anything readable (however this can be done in the noprint String quite easy as someone else mentioned earlier.) the if command does in fact ignore the special characters in noprint String HOWEVER it doesn' t not print those characters as they would appear in the myString String in the position that it original appeared in (which is the primary problem I am having.) That is the problem with your code and why it is not the complete to soultion to my homework problem. I've modified your code to satisifed all but one of the problems.
    Modified:
    import java.lang.String;
    import java.util.*;
    public class ReverseString {
      public void ReverseString(){
      public void printReverse(String s){
         int i;
        String noPrint = "~`!@#$%^&()-=+[{]}\':;?/>.<,'";
        char ch = '*';
        if(s.length()>1) printReverse(s.substring(1));
         ch = s.charAt(0);
        if (!noPrint.contains(ch + " ")) System.out.print(ch);
        return;
      public static void main(String[] args) {
           Scanner scanner = new Scanner(System.in);
          String myString;
          String add = " ";
           while (true) {
       System.out.println("Please input String.");
       myString = scanner.next();
       add = add + myString;
              if (myString.equals("STOP")){
                   break;
       System.out.print("My String: " + add + " Reverse: ");
       new ReverseString().printReverse(add);
       System.out.println();
    }If you run this code you'll see what am talking about. The only remaining problem, which I am about to restate if you are still unclear of it, is that the noprint String contents are ignored but not printed in the original position. If you are still having trouble understanding what I am talking about then let me show what I got by running the program.
    String: Ham with grav?y
    Reverse: yvarg htiw maH. [Note the ? is missing.]
    By removing the ! in the if command I get:
    Reverse: y?varg htiw maH. [Now the ? is in the wrong position.]
    It's suppose to be:
    String: Ham with grav?y
    Reverse: yvarg htiw ma?H.
    Secondly, I understand that you are frustrated with my apparent lack of understanding of proper Java tems and syntax but you must keep in mind I am student thus I am not fully aware of java as you are. With that one would expect you to act with a bit more patience, yet you not only took offense to an innocent comment you choose to slander my name and intelligence by erasing your code and calling my understanding of Java, ?ignorant.? I may be less than careful with my choice of words concerning Java but I do understand enough code to know the inner workings of a typical program, so please refrain from calling me ignorant or any variant of this in the future.
    I merely asked for help from general populous, do not think I owe you any particular praise for your code even if I find it is not exactly what I desired. I may be new to java but I am not new the message boards. With that said I find your response awfully rude and ask if you to refrain from do so in the future. I'm assuming you are an adult so act least act like someone with a bit of civility. If you were so committed to believing your code was the de facto solution to this problem then you could have simply asked why I say what I said, if had done so and shown me the error of my statement I would have not taken offense. Instead you choose to throw a fit and deleted your code. I do not know if you are like this around other board members but you should at least show courtesy to all members of this forum regardless of their time here.
    With that said, I think I've all ready found a solution to this problem I've had. I'll just tell the program to simply count over the position the character is in. That way it will stay in the same position.

  • Ignore certain records types

    I have a file with two types of records, but I only want to process one of the record types. I have tried using the xsd to ignore the second record without any success and I have tried using a transformation also without success. Is there a way to do this?
    Thanks

    If you're using a transformation.
    Can't you use a filteroption to process only the recordtypes you want?
    something like if test="/element[@attribute='record1']"

  • Is there a formula to count unique entries in a range of cells, and possible ignore certain predefined entries

    I would like to create a formula to accomplish a task, I am not sure how to do it.
    Basically, I will have cells A1-A31, with 1 corresponding with a day of the month.
    Each cell A1-A31 will contain HEX data, in the form of a name (ie: John Smith) I would like another cell such as A5 to count the unique entries within the range of A1-A31.
    If I can be pointed in the right direction, I can figure out for corresponding cells.
    Basically it will look like this (plus other calculations, I already achieved)
    DATE     NAME                     TOTAL_CASES
    1            John Smith                          1
    2           John Smith                            1
    3           Roxy Jones                          2
    4           Huang Nguyen                    3
    5           Huang Nguyen                   3
    6           Bradly Katz                         4
    7           Linda Schutlz                       5
    8            off                                       5          <--- possible addition step of ignoring "off"

    Additionally, if there is a way to count the "unique entries" in the given range, it it possible to IGNORE an item, such as the word "off" and/or "vacation?

    The formula only appears to count the total number of "Y", but should be ignoring a second "Y" for that name.

  • How to ignore certain software updates

    I keep seeing notifications of the same software update being available.  The thing is I don't want to load this particular update.  How do I keep getting updates but convince the gremlins I don't want this particular one.  In previous systems you could tell it to ignore unwanted updates.  For example, it keeps trying to push something about RAW compatibility for cameras I don't own and never intend to deal in RAW format.  It is really annoying although not fatal.  Any suggestions?

    I don't own the update for my nuisance. I bought this machine and it keeps wanting to update an app. I can't hide it 'cause the menu only shows if you own it.
    The notification won't stop.
    I have no options but to switch OS's just to use my machine without a dialog popping up every 2 minutes, to update an app that I can't update, that isn't even anywhere on the machine's indexed system.
    Is this test beyond scope of their devs?

  • Let's ignore certain threads

    Please let's ignore threads that promote cheating. By posting to these threads, we keep them alive and high on the forum thread list, only making them more visible to suckers who might fall for the cheater's trap. I'm as guilty as everyone else, because it sure feels good to vent your spleen in the face of such intolerable behavior. But I'm making a promise to myself to stop doing this. I hope you'll join me.
    On an unrelated aside: Where's the Friday coding challenge? If TuringPest wants, I can post one, because I've got to get rid of some of these Dukes I've accumulated.

    I decided a proactive approach to Bogad was required because it did not seem to matter how much abuse he received it just played into his hands - it gave him credibility in that people wishing to cheat would think that the abuse was an indication that he could do their homework even though he can't and just takes their money.
    So now I intend to expose him and his alias shills every time I can.
