Ignore X-UA-Compatible in IE10

I'm trying to find out how to tell IE10 to stop listening to the "X-UA-Compatible" tag on websites, and do what I (the user)
want it to do instead. So far I've only managed to use the developer tools to turn it of temporarily, but it always reverts back when I open up new tabs (which I do a lot, so sticking to one tab is not really an option... nor should it be). I've
messed with various compatibility settings I've found, but non of them seem to affect pages where this meta tag is set.
The back-story is that I'm using a site that reverts the rendering mode to IE8 using "X-UA-Compatible", because IE9 apparently took offense to some code in there and couldn't render it properly. IE10, on the other hand, seems to have overcome that particular
problem. Unfortunately, the meta tag specifies that it should use IE8, not that it should specifically avoid IE9, so now it's stuck in IE8 mode even though IE10 would work fine. (And there are a few HTML5 features on that site I'd like to see working, now
that the browser can actually render them.)
So, can this be done? And if not, then why?!
Thanks.

Hey Don. Thanks for the answer. The article you linked to doesn't really address my problem though. I already know more than I wanted to know about IE's compatibility stuff from a developers perspective. I just want IE10 to render things like IE10, much
like the other standards-supporting browsers do, and not revert back to the dark ages of IE8 at some random developer's whim. Surely it wouldn't be overly complicated to add an override like that for advanced users, to completely bypass the compatibility modes
(except perhaps Quirks Mode for severely mangled markup), while maintaining the current flow as a default for normal users.

  • Flash Player Compatible with IE10 64 Bit?

I am running Windows 7 64 bit with IE10 64 bit version.  The flash player version 11.7.700.169 was working OK until I downloaded the latest version 11.7.700.202.  Now I can get Youtube videos to play, but only in HTML5 mode.  When I go into the link http://www.youtube.com/html  it specifically stated that I was not in the trial.  I also got the message “Your web browser has blocked this site from using an Active X control in an unsafe manner.  As a result, this page might not display correctly.”  I tried getting into IE’s internet options, security, custom level, then enabled “Initialize and script Active X controls not marked as safe for scripting.” The flash player worked in Adobe’s mode although I kept getting popups from Microsoft saying there was a security problem.      I have tried removing the plug-in version of flash player and reinstalling it.  I also have the Active X edition installed.  When I go to control panel, Adobe flash player, it states that both versions of the flash player are installed with the latest edition.  The red icon also states Flash Player 32 bit.  While in IE’s browser, if I navigate to the adobe page that checks to see if your version is installed, all I get is a gray box.  This only happens when I am using IE10 and Avant’s browsers.  While in Firefox or Chrome the videos play fine, and the Adobe web page states that my version is Windows 64 bit, browser Chrome.   I really don’t think there is a conflict between the browsers.  I read somewhere that the flash player does not work in IE’s 64 bit, but only in IE’s 32 bit, in which case I would have to reinstall the previous version of IE.  Now I am getting the message “An add on to this site failed to run.”  Again, this only happens in IE and Avant, not Firefox or Chrome.  If the flash player doesn’t work in the 64 bit, why does the download proceed?  Before downloading it says you have Windows 7 64 bit IE I believe and, therefore, there is a presumption that it will work.  There is something on one web page that is somewhat hidden that says, “for 64 bit users.”

Thank you.  I read somewhere on this forum where someone had installed the 64 bit version on IE9.   Shockwave is enabled.  I get the message every time I go to a Youtube site, or any other site that plays videos like the weather channel.  At the top of the screen a display first pops up stating that I need Adobe installed.  That quickly goes away and at the bottom of the page I get the add on failed to run message.  I tried removing Adobe’s Active X from add/remove programs and did a reinstall.  After the installation a screen displayed stating that the installation was successful.  I realize that IE and Avant use the Active X version and not the plug in version.  I used IE and Avant for years without any problems, and have just recently added the Chrome and Firefox.  If I remember correctly, before I added Chrome and Firefox I got a message at the top of a screen in IE stating that I needed the plug in.  So I installed it.  I get the impression that I didn’t need the plug in and that may be where the problem started.  At this point I am inclined to remove Adobe by using the uninstall tool and then remove the remaining files from the instructions on Adobe’s site.  If I use the uninstall tool can I just remove the Active X version, or will it remove the plug in version too?  Can I reinstall everything by using the plugin MSI installer or should I install the plug in separately from the Active X?

  • Since downloading Firefox on a new Windows 8 PC I have issues with adds imbedded in websites and IE10 shutting down & not working properly.

Downloaded Firefox since several websites we use are not yet fully compatible with IE10. Since downloading IE10 will register a problem as soon as opened, shut down, then reopen to same page. Also have adds embedded in websites like Facebook that were not there previously, as well as popups from Firefox (Deal Caddy???) that I can't figure out how to disable. Also noticed that the two-finger scrolling in Windows 8 (when using IE10) no longer works correctly. These issues only exist for one of two users on this computer. The user that did not install Firefox does not have the above issues.

In order to uninstall a possibly unwanted extension, please do the following:
#From the Firefox window click the Firefox button at the top left and select ''Add-ons'', or, if the Firefox button is not shown, click the ''Tools'' menu and click ''Add-ons''.
#Once the Add-on Manager has opened in a new tab, click the ''Extensions'' button on the left side of the window.
#You should now see a list of your installed extensions on the right side together with buttons on the right side of each extension.
#To remove an extension from Firefox, simply click the ''Remove'' button. You should see a message that informs you about the successful removal of the add-on.
#Note that some add-ons require a Firefox restart to be removed completely. To perform a Firefox restart after the add-on removal, click the ''Restart now'' link in the message.

I have Premiere Elements 4 through 13 on Windows 7 64 bit, and all are working fine.
You really do not want Premiere Elements 10 on a computer that uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card/graphics card.
And, 13/13.1 does  not support Windows XP, Windows Vista, or OSX 10.7.
Do check System Requirement as well as computer resources.
How far are you getting with the Premiere Elements 3 install on Windows 7 64 bit? Depending on the answer to that question, have you been installing the 3.0.2 Update
    after the 3 install?
Adobe - Premiere Elements : For Windows : Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0.2 update
Have you right clicked the desktop icon for the program, if you got that far, and selected Run As Administrator?
When you are trying to get Premiere Elements 3 on Windows 7 64 bit, are you at least doing that by ignoring the "not compatible" messages and moving onward through
the installation dialogs as long as it will let you?
Please review and then let us know the outcome.

  • Firefox 5 does not support Google Tool Bar

Firefox 5 does not support Google Tool Bar

If it's an extension, it probably still works just fine with Firefox 5.0. However, because of Firefox' poor compatibility design, until Trend Micro releases a new version, you need to install Mozilla's Add-On Compatibility Reporter extension from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/15003 and restart Firefox twice.
Each extension specifies the maximum compatible version, which is probably 4.0 in your case as Firefox did not give devs any time to verify and re-release their extensions for version 5.0.
The Add-On Compatibility Reporter extension basically tells Firefox to ignore the maximum compatible version so the extension can still work on version 5.0, just like it did on 4.0.

  • Why is IE10 ignoring the CSS after applying patches?

I applied the patches (from http://helpx.adobe.com/robohelp/kb/help-visible-using-win-8-ie.html) for correct display of topics in IE10 after doing a search; that issue is now resolved. However, now when I preview any topic in RobhoHelp 10 (RH10), it's as if the style sheet is being ignored: all the text and layout is formatted incorrectly. Same when I view the generated layout in IE10.
Firefox 21.0 does not have this issue; the styles, formatting, and layout are all displayed correctly (please refer to the screen shot at http://www.tronia.com/webhelp/ie10display.png for an example of the difference).
Is there another fix/patch for IE10 that I'm missing?
thanks in advance for any help you can offer,

    <title>AR Release Numbers</title>
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="../agreHelp.css" type="text/css" />
The default document mode with IE10 now seems to be Quirks (in IE9 I think it was Standards; Quirks is the worst and I'm sure I would have done something about that).
Using the TOC, and clicking topics: stays as quirks even when I load the ARReleaseNumbers topic with:
         <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7">
in the header. When I changed the doc mode manually to IE7 standards, IE10 flipped me back to the first topic, then when I used the same TOC link, the doc mode stayed as IE7 and the topic displayed well.

  • How to restore "Always ignore" selection pressed on Low IL compat / EPM mode question in IE10 on Windows 7 x64?

How to restore "Always ignore" selection pressed on Low IL compat mode / EPM question in IE10 on Windows 7 x64?
In a previous question I asked where the Whitelist is and how to modify it but now I have clients that seem to gotten stuck after pressing "Always ignore" and then the question to run outside EPM does not come up anymore and also the Whitelist
    stops working.
I need to get the "Question" back so the user can select to disable EPM on a per site basis (and to re-enable the Whitelist already set by login script).

    same as the ActiveXFiltering sign
    a "gray" circle
So it's not the same.  ActiveXFiltering is definitely blue.  And there would be another indicator in the Address bar.
still hoping that Microsoft And Adobe solves this BUG. It has to be one of the most common cases of all when it comes to an
    external viewer embedded in IE11.
You have just reminded me of another closely related case I have to test when I get to a W7sp1 Pro X64 system I have intermittent access to
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie11-windows_7/videos-still-will-not-play-in-ie-11-you-force-us/5b0b6d45-0c80-411e-adc3-ca90e194539a?page=2
So the common factors are embedded media, IE11 and W7sp1.  In the case of the video though I'm not sure where W8.1 is getting its control--seems not to be from Flash support and not something that is controllable by Manage Add-ons.  But I
doubt that it really matters which control it is; the type of it probably matters more.
In case it gets us somewhere diagnosing your case, can you try that example too please?

  • Robohelp 11 output not compatible with IE11 and IE10

I am new to RoboHelp 11 and we've a release looming over us. The web help output files are not loading on other computers but are working fine at my end or my colleague's system (we both have RoboHelp installed in our systems)  We used Robohelp 8 for the previous release and upgraded to the latest version particularly for this release.  After integrating web files into the application, the developers found that the files are not compatible. Now we've too short a time to downgrade to Robohelp 8  Can anyone give us a suggestion on why output files are working on certain systems but not on others. Is it because I have the source files on my machines and others don't?

    Hi there
RoboHelp 11 output should be working for things. But here's what I'd check.
    1. Ensure you have any and all updates applied to RoboHelp 11. If you find you need an update, you will need to apply it, then generate the output again to ensure that the output is set up properly.
    2. It's possible that you need to simply delete all the output files from the server where you copied it. Then copy the totally new set of output files from your machine to the server.
    Cheers... Rick

  • How to set Compatibility Mode for a single site in ie10

This question was originally posted on the Answers forum -
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie10-windows_7/how-to-set-compatibility-mode-for-a-single-site-in/187152e3-142a-4d96-8d1b-af82ef571eec
I am having problem with getting ie10 to set ie9 compatibility for a single site (sharepoint.contoso.com).
When I add this website in Compatibility View Settings (Alt > Tools > Compatibility View Settings > 'Add this Website') it adds the domain 'contoso.com' and not the individual website (sharepoint.contoso.com).
This cause other sites (www.contoso.com) to be configured to use compatibility mode. Because this is a separate site (different web server) to the site sharepoint.contoso.com (sharepoint 2010 server) we need different compatibility settings.
Using a different example to explain the issue -
Microsoft has three websites that are different websites created by different developers written in different programming languages and they only work with certain browsers.
    microsoft.com (Website1 created by Developer1) - compatible with ie8/ie9/ie10
    msdn.microsoft.com (Website2 created by Developer2) - compatible with ie8/ie9
    technet.microsoft.com (Website3 website created by Developer3) - compatible only with ie10
The only thing the three website share is the URL contains 'microsoft.com'.
Marking 'msdn.microsoft.com' to run in compatibility mode affects the other 2 websites - mainly technet.microsoft.com which will not work now since it only runs in pure ie10 mode.
Should you be able to add an individual site to the compatibility list instead of all sites that have  .microsoft.com in the URL? Am I missing a simple setting in the ie10?
As a workaround I am using the F12 Developer Tools to set the Browser Mode which temporary sets the compatibility mode. However this is not a nice solution to the end users at our organisation.

problem is not solved for non corporate environments...
You could start your own thread.  Then if you got that answer and it was marked Answered you would have the ability to unmark it.  The OP of this one seems satisfied.  Also note that this is TechNet.  Consumers can get help on Answers

Oh! I wrote it wrong: I should have said: This is not solved for NON-AD environments. No demands what so ever to use Window 7/8 professional in a small corporation or on a big corporation with Island of smaller departments for example offshore.
The problem is that the thread is not "Answered" by the OP, its is marked answered by a moderator (and same moderator that did the answer) so no way of telling if the OP is satisfied.
But you are right in the fact that I am almost kidnapping the thread. But a complete answer would benefit all in this case I would presume.

  • Old Bookmarks are not compatible with Firefox version 20+

    Background Information:
I use the old client version 3.6 as there's an old utility addon that the author stopped updating and will not work with the newer revisions. Despite disabling the update feature both in about:config and in preferences, the browser still eventually updates (Originally I was using 3.4, and would prefer to use that, but no matter how much I try I can no longer roll it back from 3.6 to 3.4 even if I reinstall using a 3.4 installer). As a result I've had a habit of keeping a copy of my firefox directory in case it updates itself again without asking, which it has. This might help you guys out in answering the countless people who have lost their bookmarks due to the upgrades released this year, and will hopefully someone to investigate and release a patch/utility to fix the issue.
    Issue:
I have verified that the newest clients from at least version 20 and onwards, are not compatible with the older bookmark JSON files. People who have been upgraded to the latest revision not only lose their bookmarks, but CANNOT restore them either, as Firefox will only return the error message: "Unable to Process the Backup File".
I have confirmed that the files themselves are perfectly intact with no sign of corruption, and are as intended. They restore ok to older browser revisions (In my case specifically 3.6), but will not restore to the newer client revisions. This is not a fault with the bookmark backups, but with the newer clients (I'm guessing they changed the way they store the information in the JSONs at some point. I note in the code for the JSONs that GUID was never used in the older revisions, but it is in the newer revisions. Perhaps this is causing an incompatibility issue? You just need to adjust the client so that it looks for the GUID and if none can be found to ignore it rather than decide the file is corrupt.

    Solution?
Well in my case I had a backup copy of the old revision directory. To restore I opened the copy, and exported the bookmarks as an HTML, which I restored in the newer client. If you do not have a copy of the old client, the best thing would be to try and reinstall an older revision of the client and either make a copy of the program folder and use another copy of that so you can use both the new and old clients and not worry about the loss of an older revision since you'll always have 2 copies of the old client (One you're using, one you use to restore if it upgrades). Or you export the bookmarks as an HTML, then upgrade the client to the newest and import the HTML instead of the JSON files.
Please investigate and create an easier solution to a silly incompatibility issue. ^_^

This happens if you create a backup and forget to add the file extension manually when Firefox didn't add it automatically or you may have removed it when modifying the suggested name.

  • Issue using SharePoint 2010 with IE10 with MS Office Excel Viewer

    Hello,
We are experiencing an issue with MS SharePoint 2010 Foundation and computers who have Internet Explorer 10 and the Microsoft Office Word Viewer 2003.  When opening Word documents from SharePoint, the Word Viewer opens, but no document is displayed.
The MS Excel Viewer 2007 works and does open the Excel documents.
Computers with MS Word Viewer 2003 and IE 9 works fine, it's just the IE10 PCs.  PCs that have the full version of Office it works fine with both IE9 and IE10.
We have a segment of our PCs that need only read-only access to the Word and Excel files.  We tried Office Web App but found functionality issues (printing, etc.) and issues where the other segment of our PCs that have MS Office had to open the files
in a specific way to manipulate them.
Does anyone know of something that would be affecting the MS Word Viewer with IE10 with SharePoint?  Or know of an alternate viewer?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Anthony,
In IE10, please click F12 to open the DEV toolbar.
Now search for Browser- and Document Mode.
Set Browser Mode to Internet Explorer 8, that should work.
This setting can be edited in your Masterpage.
This is what you should put in:
    <meta
    http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=8" />
