Igsmux_mt consumes high amount of CPU

Hi experts
IGS is configured on 2 ports 40101 and 40102 hence 2 igspw_mt process
now there are 2 igsmux_mt process
1 is consuming around 60% of CPU
Name            PID  CPU%  PgSp Owner           ServerV3       0   "h" for help
igsmux_m     557252  61.5  11.9 ap5adm          ClientV3       0   "q" to quit
java         446516   8.9  59.7 root
plaixlps161:ap5adm 6> ps -ef|grep -i igsmux
  ap5adm  557252  806988 480   Sep 12      - 14461:03 /usr/sap/AP5/SYS/exe/run/igsmux_mt -mode=profile -restartcount=0 pf=/usr/sap/AP5/SYS/profile/AP5_D01_plsapap501
  ap5adm  590052 1306756   0 09:43:37  pts/1  0:00 grep -i igsmux
  ap5adm  610450  393276   0   Sep 12      -  2:45 /usr/sap/AP5/SYS/exe/run/igsmux_mt -mode=profile -restartcount=0 pf=/usr/sap/AP5/SYS/profile/AP5_D01_plsapap501
As there are 2 port watcher process der r 2 igsmux_mt process rt so if i kill 1 the high consuming process it will be restarted
is it ok if i kill it?
any idea to troubleshoot why this is consuming high amount of CPU?
Also when i test connection it shows IGS could not be reached
Awaiting reply

Thanks Juan
I already read that thread
In it is mentioned igswd_mt i.e watchdog thread automatically restarts the port watcher process igspw_mt rt
Also 1 more thing
in transaction SIGS , in the adiministration menu there are no incoming calls i mean the calls graph is at 0
now the mux process listens the call from listener and forwards it to port watcher rt
now as no calls are the mux should not be active rt?
Also when i test the chart engine it shows IGS not reached
Awaiting your reply

    Hi,
How to check which process is consuming high percentage of cpu ?
how to know the cpu time is atleast 80% of the elapsed time and how to know which code the process is running?
I know we can check high performance cpu can be find by TOP command
but i dont know on solaris?
    please help me on this?

One way is to use my Snapper script for getting the breakdown ( see http://blog.tanelpoder.com/2007/12/06/oracle-session-snapper-v106-released/ for more info ).
An example snapshot (taken over 60 second period) is below:

  • Kernal_task consuming HUGE amounts of CPU in Mavericks

Alright, so I know this is a problem that has seemed to baffle the community at times before, and i've seen problems somewhat similar to this before, but still searcing desperately for an answer. To be honest, I wasn't sure if this had been happening before i updated to mavericks, but I noticed some less than optimal performance before updating to mavericks so it might have been happening yet only on a smaller scale.
Basically here is the issue: If my computer is freshly restarted and I am doing very light browsing and such my computer seems to work totally as normal. Very very fast, snappy, no bouncing icons, hangups, etc. Not all the time, but on a quite frequent basis, whenever I start to do anything CPU intensive, my computer will go into crazy mode and absolutely become bogged down and literally un-usable. If I am even able to open activity monitor (sometimes even this would take 20 seconds or so when its having this error) and I can see that kernal_task always shoots to the top of CPU usage and is displaying as taking up anywhere generally from 550-650% of CPU Usage (not sure how thats even possible) and under system usage towards the bottom of activity monitor will say anywhere from 75-90% of overall CPU Usage.
Here is a screenshot which shows this phenomenon:
This can happen when i barely have any programs open, or when i'm doign something actually quite streessing on the CPU. The worst culprits seem to be Youtube videos, editing in final cut pro, it happened today during editing a photo in Aperture, its happened using Logic, and even just streaming audio from a flash player in Chrome. It makes the computer really un-usable to reliably work on anything that uses really any decent amount of CPU usage, because I have to constantly be restarting, and when this kernal_task ramps up, I usually can't even really open up apps, and God forbid if I tried to export a video or do anything that takes alot of CPU while this is happening, it would take forever to complete when the CPU is already consumed with this problem.
This problem was happening VERY bad seemingly after I updated to mavericks, and after finally enough I decided to fully wipe my hard drive (after backing up the files i needed and offloading them to an external) using the guide apple provides, totally reformatting the drive and re-setting it up as a startup hard drive and re-installing mavericks on it.
I did NOT restore from a time machine backup when I finally got my computer back up and running with a fresh copy on it, and I didn't really import many files at all. I wanted to start essentially totally fresh.
It seemed like right away it was doing it again, and I couldn't seem to find any consistency to when it would do it and when not. I've seen many people on the internet seem to think its some sort of audio .kext problem, but it hasn't seem to mattered if I have headphones plugged in or not. I even tried the fix where you install the 10.85 (I think it is) audio .kext to try and remedy that but no change from what i've seen.
The ONLY thing that fixes this problem when its going on for me is to restart, and alot of the times oddly enough if I do a normal restart by going to the apple menu and pressing restart (and no i'm not even re-opening the apps I had open when restarting) or shut down it wont' start up properly and will take quite a while to restart and will load my desktop very slowly. The only way i've found is to hold my Mac Retina power button to force a manual restart, and when I do that, finally it will start up totally normal like nothing happened (until the next time it does it of course).
    I'm stumped.
I've verified my disk, repaired permissions, ran memory testers, tried resetting the ram using all the ways possible, tried eliminating my apps to the very bare minimum I need to get my work done and still stumped.
Here is a screenshot of my computer stats for reference:
One interesting thing is my computer has seemed to freeze when doing the apple hardware test (restarting then hold D and select language and run the test). It will get about 20 seconds elapsed on the dialogue readout and then just hang there for the longest time and eventually I just have to force restart to get it outta there.
Clearly this shouldn't be happening, and when my computer is working properly is it very fast.
I took it to a genius bar and told them everything and they ran some hardware tests real quick and nothing showed up, but he booted off of an external drive it looked like, and he said he saw the problem somewhat coming up then too (although when he booted off that drive the kernal_task was only like 30% in activity monitor I think but still he saw that obviously and acknowledged that it was abnormal.
They wanted to hold the computer for 3-5 days which just isn't really easy for me to do when I edit videos for my job and am nearing finals week in school.
    Any ideas?

The kernel is using excessive processor cycles. Below are some possible causes for the condition.
    Throttling
When it gets high temperature readings from the hardware, or a low-voltage reading from the battery, the kernel may try to compensate by interrupting the processor(s) to slow them down and reduce power consumption. This condition can be due to
a buildup of dust on the logic board
    high ambient temperature
a worn-out or faulty battery in a portable
the malfunction of a cooling fan, a temperature sensor, a voltage sensor, or some other internal component
Note that if the problem is caused by a sensor, there may be no actual overheating or undervoltage.
If the computer is portable, test with and without the AC adapter connected. If kernel_task hogs the processor only on battery power, the fault is in the battery or the logic board. If it happens only on AC power, charging is causing the machine to heat up. That may be normal on some models. CPU usage should drop when charging is complete.
Apple Diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test, though not very reliable, is sometimes able to detect a fault. For more thorough hardware testing, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
If nothing is wrong with the hardware, then whatever you can do to improve cooling may help.
    Installed software
User-installed software that includes a device driver or other kernel code may thrash the kernel. That category includes virtualization software, such as Parallels and VMware, as well as most commercial "anti-virus" products. Some system-monitoring applications, such as "iStat," can also contribute to the problem. You can test for this possibility by completely disabling or removing the software according to the developer's instructions, or starting in safe mode. Note, however, that disabling a system modification without removing it or testing in safe mode may not be as easy as you think.
    Corrupt NVRAM or SMC data
Sometimes the problem is cleared up by resetting the NVRAM or the SMC.
    External display
Connecting an external LCD display to some MacBook Pro models while the lid is open may cause this issue. If applicable, test by closing the lid or disconnecting the display. You might get better results with a newer LED display.

  • Firefox exe continues to run after closing all windows, and consumes massive amounts of cpu

after closing all firefox windows and trying to reopen i get the "firefox is still running but unresponsive" message, and have to go into task manager, processes and end the firefox exe, which is consuming between 96 and 100 cpu.

Norton IPS is apparently a known issue being mentioned in the KB articles:
    *[[firefox will not start]]
    * [[firefox crashes when you open it]]
    * I also found an earlier post on the Norton site http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Norton-IPS-1-0-Addon-for-FireFox/m-p/25425#M8494 but I am not sure this is still considered a problem.
What exactly is this IPS extension. I am currently using XPs with Norton's NIS (version 18.6 - it is a paid for subscription). I do have Intrusion Prevention active in NIS but I see no specific extension or program IPS. Is this some optional additional software?
I did find an explanation but from 2009
    * http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Protection-Blog/Intrusion-Prevention-System-IPS-Your-first-line-of-defense/ba-p/124400
I am NOT using the Norton Toolbar etc. is it these components that are causing the problem i.e safe search etc.
I am not having problems with firefox hanging or continuing, despite using NIS.
There is a bug on this https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=548945 but that does not seem to have got very far in confirming or resolving the issue. I imagine Norton have a very large userbase and it seems unlikely that the basic NIS is itself incompatible with Firefox.

  • "Plugin Container" remains open, consuming large amounts of CPU power for nothing, even after Firefox is quit! It can only be killed from the Activity Monitor!

  • Ora 10gR2 on Solaris9 : smon consuming high cpu

    Hi,
I noticed that the smon process is consuming abnormal amounts of CPU.
At startup, every time, it uses +/- 13 seconds of cpu. Afterwards, at regular times , it starts again consuming cpu.
After running 3 days, it consumed +/- 400 secs, while it is only a small development database, hardly used !
    I ran the query :
    select count(*) from DBA_FREE_SPACE;
    ----> this number is steady (+/- 70)
    select tablespace_name, segment_name, segment_type, sum(bytes),
    count(extent_id)
    from dba_extents
    where segment_type = 'TEMPORARY';
    ----> no rows
So what is smon doing then ???? How can I find out how to correct ?
    Thanks

  • How to find out the JVM thread that is consuming high CPU

I am using WL 10.3, JRockit JVM on Linux. I have taken thread dumps. How to find out the JVM thread that is consuming high CPU?
I know how to map it Sun JVM on Solaris. I haven't done in on JRockit so far. Please advise.

Check out some of Marcus Hirt's blog entries for details about how to use JRockit Mission Control. It's a very nice tool that should provide a lot of insight:

  • Dbwr consuming high CPU after enabling DirectIO

    Hi,
DBWR is consuming high CPU. After enabling DirectIO on Solaris SPARC 10, dbwr is eating away almost 1 CPU on a v440 machine i.e. 19% throughout the day. Neither of "buffer busy waits" or "write complete waits" or "free buffer waits" are in the top 5 wait events, which, to me, means that there is no buffer contention.
What I understand is that after enabling DirectIO, it takes longer for the IO to complete because pre-DirectIO it would return from the file system cache whereas now it has to return from the disk (and I do see at the OS level that IO has become slow), but should that result in dbwr consuming more CPU?
Infact after enabling DirectIO, IO has become very slow which is another problem and as a result log file writes have also become slow which is a 3rd problem. btw, I am aware that if there were many FTS, then DirectIO can make the system slow but there are no FTS in my case. Also, that SGA should be increased after enabling DirectIO, which has also been done.
    Thanks

What I understand is that after enabling DirectIO, it takes longer for the IO to complete because pre-DirectIO it would return from the file system cache whereas now it has to return from the disk Incorrect. See directio for details.
Yes, removing the file system cache from the I/O layer for a device can reduce I/O performance if the caller does not perform its own caching. However, direct I/O will eliminate the system cache overheads (and associated CPU resources needed) from a caller (like Oracle) that implements its own sophisticated buffer cache.
Direct I/O should therefore increase Oracle I/O performance and decrease resource footprint as it eliminates the need for the kernel to maintain a cache for that device.
Infact after enabling DirectIO, IO has become very slow which is another problem and as a result log file writes have also become slow which is a 3rd problem. Direct I/O, as per the Sun docs, is an advisory call. It may not place that device in direct I/O modes. It may result in partial direct I/O. So you need to make sure exactly what happens and how successful (partial or complete) this setting was.
btw, I am aware that if there were many FTS, then DirectIO can make the system slow but there are no FTS in my case. FTS (multi block reads/large sequential reads) is slower? This is contrary to Sun's docs that state:
Large sequential I/O generally performs best with DIRECTIO_ON, except when a file is sparse or is being extended and is opened with O_SYNC or O_DSYNC.

  • DBWR is consuming high CPU

    Hi,
I'm experiencing bug in Oracle version 10.2.0.3:
7385253 – DBWR IS CONSUMING HIGH CPU
The explanation of the bug on metalink says its from version 10.2.0.4 and there is a patch.
My question is, if this bug was also present in 10.2.0.3 and can the patch be applied to this version of Oracle DB.
    Cheers.

    Hi,
AFAIK, it won't support, since patch on 10.2.0.3 would required additional files which not available onthat current version, so its fix on the top of 10.2.0.4. I am not sure whether it will work or not.

    Hi jackhill,
Please check whether you configure Search service in your SharePoint.
And please use Taskmgr on the server to check which process may be cause this issue.
In addition, there is an article about high CPU in SharePoint 2013, please check if it is useful for you:

  • Oracle 11g perl script consuming high cpu

    Hello,
I'm running Oracle Database 11g Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production on a Windows system and periodically it runs a perl script, parse-log1.pl and it consumes a lot of cpu. I find it irritating. I've searched around and I've seen issues if the machine has no c: drive but this machine does have a c: drive. Granted Oracle is not installed on c: drive but should that matter. I've tried looking in the script and I see no references to c: nor any of the scripts the parse-log1.pl requires. Is there any way to fix this?

  • Firefox is using large amounts of CPU time and disk access, and I need to know how to shut down most of this so I can actually use the browser.

Firefox is a very busy piece of software. It's using large amounts of CPU time and disk access. It puts my usage at low priority, so I have to wait for some time to be able to use my pointer or keyboard. I don't know what it uses all that CPU and disk access time for, but it's of no use to me. It often takes off with massive use of resources when I'm not doing anything, and I may not have use of my pointer for several minutes. How can I shut down most of this so I can use the browser to get my work done. I just want to use the web site access part of the software, and drop all the extra. I don't want Firefox to be able to recover after a crash. I just want to browse with a minimum of interference from Firefox. I would think that this is the most commonly asked question.

  • High amount of caching

Hello, all. First post about arch. Cool distro.
I'm pretty new to Arch but I've been using mainly Fedora for awhile now.  I've noticed something odd in Arch on my most recently acquired box.
    Pentium 4 3.0ghz
    2x 80GB HDD
    1GB of memory
    ATI Radeon AGP card
    Arch 2008.6
I've noticed unusually high amounts of memory caching - unusual at least in my experience. The true usage is very low but I've been noticing the kernel caching about 800-900MB at any given time. The box is currently running without X as I try to troubleshoot my xorg.conf (that's an issue for another post). top, free -m, and /proc/meminfo routinely point to high amounts of memory being cached but actual usage has been hovering around 100MB at most.
    $ free -m

However, the machine is very responsive and is handling Samba service very quickly. I should mention I have one 1 GB swap per hard drive for a total of 2GB swap, but I've not even seen those swaps in use yet. Do I need to be concerned or is the high amount of caching something I should look into further? I know it's common for the kernel to cache some, but I've never seen the kernel cache ~95% of the system's available memory.
Thanks. Let me know if you need more output or further specs.

No, definitely not. I realize that caching is not the same as "using," but it seemed like a high amount of caching. I'm being paranoid, then?
Yes, you're. But the term is "ricer" I guess
Seriously now... you can argue what is a high amount of cache with kernel developers, they know better.

  • Invoice Reduction-Vendor error: only a higher amount invoiced is allowed

    Hi,
I am trying to replicate the "Invoice Reduction" Scenario (for both Price and Quantity Variance scenario).
    1) Created a PO for 25 PCE and made GR for 10 PCE (10 USD/PCE).
    2) Entering Invoice for 25 PCE and Amount 2500 USD and I have selected correction ID as Vendor Error: Reduce Invoice. So when the document is posted system should generates the Invoice document and Credit memo.
But I am getting the error as mentioned in subject.
Please find below the Error description:
Vendor error: only a higher amount invoiced is allowed
    Message no. M8582
    Diagnosis
The item amount in the invoice of          100.00 is smaller than the item amount of        2,500.00 suggested by the system.
    System response
You currently cannot enter an amount that is smaller than that expected by the system. This would lead to a credit memo for the vendor.
    Procedure
You can change the default values to correspond to the invoice and then post the invoice.
    Regards,
    Hari.

    Hi,
Please check if the PO is GR based invoice verification is checked.
since the GR is only done for the partial qty while you enter the invoice and reducing it system is giving the error.
If vendor sends a higher amount /qty when compared to PO you can try for a reduction.
for more information on when and how an invoice reduction need to be done, please check the below link.
