IiLife update iWeb Question

After updating to iLife '08 and then opening iWeb for the first time we are asked a question about changing domain stuff that I don't understand. The options to click on are Don't Change OR Change All. What do they mean?

Before you do anything, go to Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb and make a backup copy of the domain.sites file. Store this in a folder somewhere "safe" on your hard drive and make a backup on an external drive or burn it to a DVD/CD.
When you first launch iWeb '08 it is asking you if you want to convert your old domain file to a new domain.sites2 format which is not backward compatible with the original. This is why you are making a backup - in case you experience any problems with the conversion.
The alternative is to elect to create a brand new domain file to give you a fresh start in iWeb '08. If you choose this option and don't make a backup, you will lose your old website(s).
The latter is probably the better way to go. Once you have tried out the new application, and are satisfied that all is well, you can double click one of your old domain.sites backup files to launch it in iWeb and "allow" it to convert your old site(s) to a domain.sites2 file.

If you have a credit card on file on top of your gift card then it is asking you to confirm the security code for the card, which for a Visa or MasterCard is 3 digits located on the back, or AMEX has 4 digits on the front.  This happens just to ensure that you are the account holder, and would happen from time to time whether it was a free or paid app, even if you have a credit through your gift card.  This doesn't mean that your credit card will be charged.

  • Can't update iWeb 1.0 to 1.1.1- Strange Error Message

I'm updating iWeb 1.0 to 1.1.1 in order to remove the conflict PC visitors are having to my website: www.ifsongs.com. Those PC visitors get ActiveX control panel warnings everytime they try to listen to an mp3 on my Audio Sample page.
So...I downloaded iWeb 1.1.1. and went through the steps to install. But I got this error warning:
"You can not install the iWeb update on this volume. An elibible iWeb application was not found in the location /Applications/iWeb apps."
The problem is.... on that hard drive volume I DO have the iWeb application 1.0 sitting right there in a iWeb folder within my Applications folder.
So what gives? Why can't I update 1.0 (which I bought in the Apple Store and which I've used for over a year).
I repaired the disk permissions before I tried to install.
    Thanks Panther

    Steve:
It has to be in the Applications folder and not in a subfolder within that folder. Take it out of the iWeb folder and just put in the Applications folder. It will update then. Then you can continue the update to 1.1.2.

  • Updated iWeb site from 06 to 08 - but counter reset to 0

    Hi,
Many thanks in advance for your attention.
Updated iWeb site from iWeb 06 to iWeb 08.
Counter for website reset to 0.
Any way to retrieve old site's counter setting?
    Thank you,
    - Ross

    Hi xharris,
    1) Have a look at the following page about transferring the website from one computer to the other
    http://alyeska.altervista.org/en/iWebTransferSite.html
(also read Note 1 of that page!)
    2) Be sure to update iWeb '08 to the latest version (2.0.3). Then double-click the domain file you transferred and iWeb will launch and prompt you to update the domain file to version 2.
The problems some people experience are that some objects might move and not be in the right place anymore or things like that. Just have a look at it once you opened it in iweb '08 before publishing it to the web.
Also make a Backup of the Domain file before- after- you updated and from time to time

  • When Will Apple Update iWeb?

Im wondering and asking when will Apple find the time to update Iweb?
They have the potential to have the best software for those that want to make lovely sites.
It would need to be of the Iphoto standard or even slightly more advanced with better updated templates.
Now that we have updated OS and now our retina devices we need that standrd to create.
    Please Apple fill our needs!

I haven't seen an official notice of discontinuation. But even if iWeb has been discontinued (as its absence suggests), we're all just users like yourself here so would only be able to speculate on the reasons — and, according to Support Community etiquette, we are to "avoid speculation".

  • Updating iWeb

Hi, I m just wondering if you think that Apple will update iWeb with "add-ons" with paypal button, templates, and others capabilities in the near future. iWeb is great but I think it's too restrictive in some ways and I'm surprised thatn Apple locked it!
    Comments are appreciated!

You can already do paypal buttons. It's just a matter of putting the right code in the link. I posted step-by-step instructions here for both sale and donation buttons:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=1976180#1976180
You can copy paypal's graphics but it's much nicer to create your own button with a shape. You'll find an example on the top right of my page here:
    http://web.mac.com/jkevinwolfe/iWeb/PixTricks/Blog/Blog.html
There are a lot of things we'd all like to be able to do with iWeb. It would be nice if we could just add a plugin for things like paypal, skype, etc. But both of these can be done now with little work. If you search, you'll find my step-by-step on including a skype button that involves putting an extra file on your server of .mac, but no html hacking.

  • Apple, please keep and update iWeb!

Please go to the iWeb feedback site and send Apple an email to keep and update iWeb!
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html
    Great, thanks!

I really doubt if that will do much good but certainly give it a try. However:
It's now confirmed that iWeb and iDVD have been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
In addition the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on.
HOWEVER, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still currently available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those copies still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD.
This may be of some interest to you: Life After MobileMe.  And as a replacement for iWeb give Flux 3 a try.  You can use it in demo mode for 30 days.  If you do decide to try it view the video tutorials at their site and the 3rd party videos at YouTube.  I found them to be very helpful.

  • Will apple update iweb anytime soon or ever?

i know apple hasn't updated iWeb for a verylong time. I haven't seen any rumors on if apple will ever update it. Does anyone know if iWeb is over???

iWeb was only ever created in the first place to go with MobileMe to support web publishing, so when they decided to get rid of MobileMe and replace it with iCloud, there was no need to keep iWeb any longer, which is why they withdrew support for it and stopped selling iLife.
Perhaps it is time to start finding out a litte about html.  All you do is click on the html snippet and drag and drop it onto your iWeb page and then copy and paste code there and click on Apply.  If you want to make good websites these days, then you need to know some html.
If you have iWeb, you can continue to use it for as long as it works with the Mac OS's.

  • IWeb update - republishing question

Since I built my site with the first incarnation of iWeb, and the update has been installed, will simply republishing the content change the images from PNG to JPG or do the graphics need to be reimported into the pages?
Does iWeb do the conversion upon import or upon publishing the site?

to clarify, many of the images that iWeb published are big (in file size) and going with a JPG compression versus PNG would be a big benefit to my site. I know you can't specify the format it exports to, but JPG would be best for most of the images, and I'm wondering how to get there - by reimporting or just by republishing.

  • Mobileme website and iweb question

how much longer will Apple host my mobileme website? Any suggestions for transitioning  to a new server? Will iWeb continue to work as my web update program?

Why did you not consider doing a search of this forum first before posting a question like this?  Your totally unique question is asked and answered on a daily basis on this forum.
If you had searched you would have found that MobileMe will be available until the end of June this year and if you are a registered MobileMe user, then you should have received e-mails regarding this and extending your subscription for free until the end of June.
iWeb is an application and you can continue to use it to update and publish your website - it works in Snow Leopard, Lion and will work with Mountain Lion.
Have a look at GoDaddy and HostExcellence for starters and do a search of this forum.

  • IPhoto and iWeb Question

If you create an album in iPhoto and you decide to also publish it as a MobileMe Gallery you will see both in the left hand sidebar in iPhoto - the regular album and the published album - all is well.
You are able to drop EITHER of these into an iWeb photopage. Here is teh question:
Is there any advantage/disadvantage to using one of these albums as "the iweb one"?
I ask as I dropped a gallery which is posted on MobileMe and then WITHIN iWeb I started to delete some of the pictures within that album - not sure if that updates the album in iPhoto/MobileMe or not but it made me think that perhaps this isn't the best way to do it. Any thoughts appreciated.
    Steve

    Steve:
If you create a MMe gallery from an album you will have both the album and MMe gallery in the left hand iPhoto pane. The MMe gallery icon can be seen in the Media browser in iWeb but the photos are not viewable nor is it able to be dragged into any iWeb page. You need either an album or event to be able to drag into iWeb.
If you drag an album into iWeb and then delete photos from it the album in iPhoto is not affected nor would the MMe gallery created by that album.

  • Basic iWeb Questions

I am new to iWeb. We are uploading a site to a .org address, www.miniapples.org, not mobile me. I am publishing the site to a folder on my computer and then uploading it with an FTP program to the server.
    1. Where does iWeb store a site on your computer prior to publishing?
    2. Is publishing a one way street? In other words is the site stored somewhere within the iweb package and then when published, it is dumped into a site folder in a one way diretion (iWeb->site folder)? As compared to a program like Dream Weaver where you access files located in a site folder (Site->Dreamwever->Site), I have the impression (maybe incorrect) that the pages available for update are not those located in the published site, but are held somewhere else?
    3. Can a .htaccess text file be inserted into an iWeb site to make "home.html" the default page? Our site is hosted on a mac server. In converting the site to iWeb, I've noticed if the main page is listed as "Home.html", the site will not display it when a search is done for www.miniapples.org. But if I change the main page to "Default.html" then it appears. However in iWeb whatever you name the page is what appears on the site. I don't want this page called "Default" but "Home". Hence the .htaccess question or is there a better way?
    Thanks!
    -Dave

Yes, Fetch aimed at the wrong page is more likely.
Turns out you might be right about cache. I went to look at the cache setting in Firefox (which I just started using on a regular basis) and I could not find a cache setting in the Firefox Prefs. So I googled it and it appears that at least according to a 2005 article that to turn off the cache in Firefox you must type about:config in the address bar. Scroll down the list of items that pop up to browser.cache.disk.enable which should say true, right click that line and select toggle (in the menu choice that pops up) to toggle it to false. Now I'm going to see how this works with different pages and see if there are any unintended consequences and see if my updates to the iweb site reflect my changes. Thanks, I'll report back.

I'm new to Fetch (having before used Dreamweaver's built in FTP) to upload pages. How could you have Fetch pointed at the wrong page? To get signed in, I'm having to log into the site at the server which puts me into the correct folder. All of the html pages are on the top level.
