ok, here's what i did to get iphoto to recognize my iphone.
change the "connecting camera opens:" dialogue box to "image capture" (in the iphoto preferences "general" tab @ the bottom of the window)
close the preferences & quit iphoto.
quit itunes
open iphoto & change the "connecting camera opens:" dialogue box back to "iphoto"
close the preferences & quit iphoto
plug in iphone.
both itunes & iphoto will launch simultaneously.

My Ringer only works sometimes with I message only

My Ringer only works sometimes when using I message. The ringer works for all phone calls and emails. I have tried everything, I even had the unit switched by my carrier and it's happening with the latest unit as well. I did not do the I tunes back and restore. I did a manual set up thinking the problem might carry over from the previous unit. Help!

Had this happen today and 2X past as you discribed. A reboot (turn phone off and on) restored all sounds for me. The first time I can't associate w/ a cause but the second and third were just after listening to a podcast using the apple podcast app - the only app available for that. That's my story and for now I'm sticking to it.

If you are taking your $500 electronic device to the beach, I recommend you get a case that completely seals the iPhone from the elements (ie. waterproof).

Since you have already done some sort of reset on your Airport Express, you might as well make sure it was a "hard reset" - follow the instructions for a hard reset found at:

Since your Mac is running Leopard, you need to configure the Airport Express using the Airport Utility found in the Applictions->Utilities folder. You cannot install the old software that was supplied on the CD you got with the Airport Express.
In future - if you do something bad with network settings on your Mac, do NOT try to fix it with the Airport Utility. The Airport Utility is only used to configure the Airport Express - and since the problem you have created is on the Mac and not the Airport Express, there is no need to be using the Airport Utility and especially there is no need to be resetting the Airport Express.

The trascription doesn't take place on your phone. The audio file is processed a little on the phone and then sent to Apple's servers for the bulk of the work, and the resulting text is sent back to your phone.
Sometimes there might be problems connecting to the internet to send the file. Sometimes there might be problems with Apple's servers in a specific region. In my case if I go outside my house a bit my phone will still be trying to connect to the wifi (there is just a little bit of a signal). There isn't enough wifi to handle sending the audio files to Apple, but enough that the phone keeps trying to use it.
Things that sometimes help. Turn off wifi if it is weak. Put your phone into airplane mode for a few seconds and then turn the radio back on.
If the problem is at Apple's end. Just wait a while.

UWL Configurations assistant only works sometimes

Hello Everyone,
I am having problems with the UWL configurations assistant.
The uwl version is 7.00 SP21(1000.7.00.21.0.2009.12.14204516)
The Problem is as follows:
When using the assitant to change attribute names (ie. Change subject to Theme ) I can change it but after saving the change and checking the UWL the change is not there (ie subject is still subject). This happens not only with attributes but also when I want to change the view name. Some of the changes that I have made work but then some of them don't. I've cleared cache and all and even restarted the portal but not all changes are always made. I have no definitive explanation why some changes are made and some are not. Removing views from the UWL always works properly with the assistant so at least that works
I have already been though the complete SAP Help, Xsearch and the UWL Forum so links to SAP Help Won't help much.

Yes I am using the Wizard.
1. select the wizard link and in the next window select "Configure the main view of the UWL" (Please note I am translating everything because our portal is in German. So not all names will be exact)
2. In the Navigation node configuration window, Select Tasks -> New and in progress -> Customize the view button
3. I then select, for example, the "Substitute for" attribute and select "rename" in the "enter a name to be used in this view" area I enter "To" for this attribute and click on "accept".
4. I see that the change in the attribute name has been made in this window
5. I the click on the "save" button in the upper left corner.
6. This brings me back to the Navigation node configuration window. In this window I select the "save and return" button
7. The status page tells me in which .xml file my changes were saved (in this case MainCombinedTracking)
8. I then select the "back to main page button" and am brought back to the UWL configuration main page
9. I then go to the UWL page and check to see if the change has been made and I still see "Substitute for"
I did get this to work in one view (Tasks) but that took quite awhile and a few tries. I haven't been able to get it to work again in the other views (Completed Tasks and Tracking) or in other systems (Kon or Prod). I had cleared the cache everytime after checking and seeing that the attribute name had not changed. All of the customizing (personal) was deleted during this whole scenario so that it would not be in the way.
I have tried to use the wizard to rename the Tracking tab but this also did not work even though I selected the "Rename" button in the Personalize Tracking window
No errors are shown. I just see that the attribute name has not been changed unfortunately. I have not set uwl to debug mode but I will try that when I get a chance to.

}But it's only working for some addresses and not others. For example, if I use a page that actually exists (e.g. www.facebook.com) I get an OK which is correct then a sub-page of this site which doesn't exist (e.g. www.facebook.com/sgboegoeb) I get a 'Not OK' which is also correct.
BUT if I use a URL which doesn't exist at all (e.g. www.lgnwpo.com) I get back a 200 response code and an OK. Can anyone tell me why this is happening? Am I getting redirected to a genuine page or something?

On button only works sometimes

The "On" button of my iMac had developed an issue where it is only responding sometimes. It doesn't matter whether it's plugged in to the APC surge unit or a regular outlet. What is typically occurring is it won't turn on when pressing the button unless I unplug and replug the cord. Then it usually turns on on the first press of the button or sometimes the second press of the button. It seems to be getting worse. I'll ask for feedback here before reporting the issue to my reseller (it's under warranty).

True except that just pulling the plug is not proper way to reset the SMC.

So step #2 _"Unplug *all cables* from the computer"_ was thrown in just to inconvenience us?

Is it true that Thunderbird does no longer works well with POP mail servers and only works well with IMAP servers?

Our email host is telling us that our outdated POP mail server doesn't work well with Thunderbird and it the reason we're having sporadic difficulty sending out emails with attachments when using Thunderbird (no problems when sending emails directly from the email host's web portal and bypassing Thunderbird). We'll often get notification when using Thunderbird and trying to attach PDF'd documents to an email that "Sending of message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to SMTP server timed out." The email host company is advising that this problem will be solved if we upgrade from the free POP email to the not free IMAP email. True? Or are they just using this Thunderbird problem as an excuse to sign us up for unnecessary services?

Messages are sent via SMTP. Both, POP and IMAP are protocols to receive mail.
In any case, it would be '''their''' 'outdated POP mail server', not yours.
