IIS Arr - time out
Hi!
We have configure our IIS ARR for lync following the technet article:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/nexthop/archive/2013/02/19/using-iis-arr-as-a-reverse-proxy-for-lync-server-2013.aspx
Now we have some problem with mobile devices and time outs and I've seen some articles with instructions to raise the time out. For with server farm in our Iss arr should I change, the one for lyncdiscover or the one for our external web services?
-UC
Hi,
You need to increase the Proxy timeout on the IIS ARR Server farm.
More details:

Idle Time-out recommendations DRM/IIS 7.5
We are configuring the DRM Application Pool in IIS 7.5 to comply with internal security standards. The default idle time-out is set to 1440 minutes but our security guide recommends 20 minutes. Any reasons why someone thinks changing the setting to 20 minutes may be an issue?

Hi,
So, I would like to start using the" Idle Time Out Action - Suspend" for several of my web applications.
What I would like to know is whether any Application Events occur that I can use so that I know when the WorkProcess enters or exits the suspend state.
Right now my application does stuff on Application Start and End, and I would like to have that same code executed when the WorkProcess suspends itself and when it comes out of suspend.
Is this possible?
Thanks,

Issues with mobility and autodiscovery with Lync 2013 and IIS/ARR
Hi all,
this is my last resort after days and days searching a solution for this problem... unsuccessfully.
All works fine unless the autodiscovery service with external users and the mobility service for both internal and external ones.
I deployed a Standard Edition Lync Server 2013 with:
a consolidated Frontend server in LAN
an Archiving and Monitoring server in LAN
an Edge server in DMZ with 2 NICs (one in DMZ network and one in LAN)
a IIS/ARR 2.5 reverse proxy in DMZ with 2 NICs (one in DMZ network and one in LAN)
All these roles are on Windows Server 2012 R2.
No split-DNS is deployed since I have different domains for internal and external. In any case I used the pinpoint DNS tip to resolve some records internally (I followed this guide http://tsoorad.blogspot.ch/2012/10/lync-server-dns-pinpoint-zones.html)
Here DNS records into internal domain:
A-record for meet.domain-ext.com points to Frontend server local IP
A-record for dialin.domain-ext.com points to Frontend server local IP
A-record for lyncdiscoverinternal.domain-ext.com points to Frontend server IP
A-record for lyncwebexternal.domain-ext.com points to Frontend sever local IP
A-record for autodiscover.domain-ext.com points to Exchange server local IP
Here DNS records into external domain:
CNAME-record for lyncdiscover.domain-ext.com points to lyncwebexternal.domain-ext.com
CNAME-record for sipexternal.domain-ext.com points to lyncwebexternal.domain-ext.com
A-record for meet.domain-ext.com points to Reverse Proxy public IP
A-record for dialin.domain-ext.com points to Reverse Proxy public IP
A-record for lyncwebexternal.domain-ext.com points to Reverse Proxy public IP
I installed and configured IIS/ARR 2.5 with KB2732764 and KB2785586 on Reverse Proxy following the NextHop guide. The local IP address of external NIC on Reverse Proxy is NATTED by a Cisco ASA firewall with public IP address and only 80/443
ports are permitted.
The problems occurs when I try to connect whit my Lync 2013 APP on iPad using autodiscovery service, both internally and externally. After some seconds the APP shows the message “Cannot connect to the server because it could be busy or
temporarily unavailable. Retry.” When I used the IIS/ARR 3.0 the problem looked like an authentication issue, then I came back to ISS/ARR 2.5 version with its KB. Now I cannot understand what is the cause about logfail.
The same behavior occurs with Android Lync 2013 APP and Windows Phone 8 APP.
Moreover my Lync 2013 client on Windows 7 can connect internally with autodiscovery settings but it cannot do it externally.
I'm a bit confused because I cannot understand if the problem is about external webservice of Frontend server or about Reverse Proxy configuration or about Lync Control Panel configuration.
Here is an extracted of iPad Lync 2013 log (sorry if it’s a bit long).
Any helps are very appreciated, thansk a lot!

thanks a lot for your reply!
I created _sip._tls.domain-ext.com SRV record in the external DNS and now autodiscovery works fine. At the beginning I had not created it because I thought lyncdiscover.domain-ext.com A record was enough for autodiscovery. I still cannot understand
why lyncdiscover.domain-ext.com points to reverse proxy, while _sip._tls.domain-ext.com points to Edge server. It's strange because both are part of the research order of Lync 2013 desktop clients.
By the way, mobility still does not work. I tried to insert bot the https URLs as manual configuration but Lync 2013 for iPad was not be able to login. I tried to paste both the URLs in the web browser and:
with https://<ExtwebFQDN>/Autodiscover/autodiscoverservice.svc/Root appears the "Root.json" file to be downloaded;
with https://<IntwebFQDN>/AutoDiscover/AutoDiscover.svc/Root
the message "500-Internal error of server" appears.
Any suggests from you about how to check the configuration of ISS/ARR 2.5?
Thanks again! -
Sizing IIS ARR for Exchange Server 2013
Hi Everyone,..
I planned to publish Exchange 2013 through IIS ARR server, but I've had trouble finding any data on CPU / memory usage for a dedicated ARR server based on Microsoft recommendation. There are 8000 users that will be access from ARR server.
Hopefully you can help for sizing so
there isn't bottleneck on that server.
Thanks
~IH~Hi Irfan
The concurrent connections depends upon appConcurrentRequestLimit which has a default value of 5000. I think you need to increase this if in your case the concurrent connections exceed 5000
I have found few articles for your reference

Its better to submit this to http://forums.iis.net/ since this is more kind of IIS related issue and you will get better response
Good Luck !!

IIS ARR lyncdiscover points autodiscoverinternalurlUri
Hello,
I have a 1 Lync 2013 Front End standard and i'm trying to connect lync mobile clients, i have published lyncdiscover.contoso.com with iis arr but when i open xml Href is pointing to autodiscoverserviceinternalURI
<resource xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/rtc/2012/03/ucwa" rel="root" href="https://LYNCFE.contoso.local/Autodiscover/AutodiscoverService.svc/root?originalDomain=contoso.com">
<link rel="user" href="https://pool.contoso.com/Autodiscover/AutodiscoverService.svc/root/oauth/user?originalDomain=contoso.com"/>
<link rel="xframe" href="https://pool.contoso.com/Autodiscover/XFrame/XFrame.html"/>
</resource>
The rule of lync discover is redirecting to http 8080 and https 4443 through lync front end, and certificate has a SAN with lyncdiscover.contoso.com
Any idea?
ThanksThank you Thamara.Wijesinghe for your answer but i have exactly the same configuration as you mention in your article:
- Server Farm Name: pool.contoso.com (lync external web services URL)
-server address: LYNCFE.contoso.com
-HTTP port 8080
-HTTPS por 4443
-Disabled Disk cache
-Time Out 200
-Disabled SSL Offloading
-{HTTP_HOST} added pattern pool.*
also office, meet, dialin and lyncdiscover is correctly published with IIS ARR sharing PPTs from external connectivity but i cannot connect lync mobile clients or download address book externally.
testconnectivity.microsoft.com remote web connectivity test results all points in green
The URL of the web as expected it was found and confirmed that anonymous access is not allowed.
HTTP response headers:

Hello, in need of help, we're trying to find alternative to TMG, so we are trying to use ARR to publish but seem to be stuck
when we do a lync we get the following error:
Testing HTTP authentication methods for URL https://lyncdiscover.itt.com/Autodiscover/AutodiscoverService.svc/root/user.
HTTP authentication test failed.
Tell me more about this issue and how to resolve it
Additional Details
Initial anonymous HTTP(s) request didn't fail, but Anonymous isn't a supported Authentication Method for this scenario.
HTTP Response Headers:
Pragma: no-cache
X-MS-Server-Fqdn: HS.itt.com
X-Content-Type-Options: nosniff
Content-Length: 203
Cache-Control: no-cache
Content-Type: application/json
Expires: -1
Server: Microsoft-IIS/8.5
X-AspNet-Version: 4.0.30319
X-Powered-By: ASP.NET,ARR/2.5
Date: Tue, 10 Feb 2015 03:58:29 GMT
Elapsed Time: 2107 ms.
However when i put TMG back up it passes. The lyncdiscover rule in is identical to my rules , for meet, dial and lyncexternal and those work just fine, so i cant seem to figure out whats goin on.
Also if i visit the url .....https://lyncdiscover.itt.com/Autodiscover/AutodiscoverService.svc/root/user...... i get this
This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.
<resource xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/rtc/2012/03/ucwa" rel="user" href="https://lync.itt.com/Autodiscover/AutodiscoverService.svc/root/user">
<link rel="xframe" href="https://lync.itt.com/Autodiscover/AutodiscoverService.svc/root/user/xframe"/>
</resource>
Any one have any ideas?Hi jumbi,
Looks like the URL rewrite rule is incorrect, you can check it.
And you can also have a look at the following article.
http://blogs.technet.com/b/nexthop/archive/2013/02/19/using-iis-arr-as-a-reverse-proxy-for-lync-server-2013.aspx

IIS ARR reverse proxy..can someone explain how traffic goes?
I'm building a reverse proxy server from the ground up, and I'm using IIS ARR.
I'm following this awesome guide to do it:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/nexthop/archive/2013/02/19/using-iis-arr-as-a-reverse-proxy-for-lync-server-2013.aspx
I'm having a hard time grasping this IIS stuff and I was wondering if someone could explain something.
Am I supposed to use the external IP of the reverse proxy in external DNS, or the external IP of the edge server?
Are my simple URLs (I'm using lws, meet, dialin, and lyncdiscover in IIS ARR) supposed to externally resolve to the reverse proxy, and then my accessedge URLS resolving to the external IP of the edge?
I'm trying to figure out what to ask to have added to external DNS, and I was thinking that all these requests would come into the Edge, and then the edge would push it up to the reverse proxy for port translation, and then down to the front end, or something.
Thanks!
Brandon
Edit: I think I might have figured it out... Is the external IP of the reverse proxy the "Lync Web Services External IP"? If that's the case, I got confused in my validator. You beat me to it. Yes, you'd communicate with the edge directly. The reverse proxy is for Lync Web Services such as your external web services URL, meet, lyncdiscover, dialin, etc. It's just a method of publishing your front ends
to the Internet.

Request time out when creating content database
Hello,
my problem is, that i cannot create a SharePoint content database via the central administration.
My Setup is the following:
SharePoint Server 2013 Enterprise Farm
1x Applikation Server/WFE (Windows Server 2012 SP 1)
1x Database Server MSSQL Server 2012 (Windows Server 2012 SP 1)
1x TFS 2013 (Windows Server 2012 SP 1)
all of them are hosted in the same Hyper-V Environment. It is not the fasted Hyper-V Environment existing on planet earth.
The weirdest part of the problem is, i am able to create a content database via powershell.
I am running in some kind of time out issue related to the IIS and CA of that Applikation Server.
Here is the ULS Log from the failling content database creation via CA

The fact that i am able to create a content database through powershell sorts out permissions problems. I am certain of that because the w3wp.exe and the powershell.exe used for both creations were run under the same user.
The timeout always happens aroud 120 seconds after i started the creation. The creation via powershell takes about 3,5 minutes.
Here for the folks that ask me, why i haven't asked google or bing or some other search engine.
I tried the solutions suggested here
http://www.sharepointpals.com/post/Error-while-Creating-Web-Application-through-Central-Administration , here
http://anthonyspiteri.net/sharepoint-2010-web-ui-timeout-creating-web-application-quick-fix/ and here
http://blogs.ibs.com/Duane.Odum/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=33
which i thought pointed me to the right solution.
But those post unfortunatly didnt worked out.
I also tried to alter the web.config files (i know that isn't recommended or supported, but it didn't change anything so those are back to normal as well)
So here are my question:
Can you guys help me solve this issue?
Are there any other places where timeouts can be managed or defined?
P.S.: I am new to using this forum. so pls don't crucify me for doing a mistake.
P.S.S: My english is very poor also :D
With best regards
SimonBe careful with settings like these because there may be a much deeper issue at hand. I have had an issue with a customer that manifests itself as a timeout on a site collection. It was very hard to track since it didn't happen frequently. We engaged Microsoft
Support to find out the root cause but all they could point at is a general network issue that pertains to authentication. After digging deeper, we found out that the network issue was caused by a saturated network connectivity to the domain controller that
impacts a site collection when the database is making an authentication call. Keep this solution as more of a quick fix but be sure to conduct a deeper investigation of the real root cause

How to deal with deadlock on wwv_flow_data table when http server times out
There are some threads about a deadlock on the wwv_flow_data table. None of them contain a real explanation for this behaviour. In my case I will try to explain what I think is happening. Maybe it helps somebody who is hitting the same matter.
In my case with APEX 3.2.1 I am navigating from one page to another. Doing this APEX will lock the table wwv_flow_data. As soon as the other page is shown the lock will be released. But now this other page contains a bad performing query (standaard report region). After 5 minutes the http server (modplsql) will time out and present the message "No response from the application server" on the screen. In the meanwhile the query is still running on the database server and the lock stays on the wwv_flow_data table.
Normal user behaviour will be that the user will use the back button to return to the previous page and tries it again to navigate to the other page or
the user will try to refresh the page with the bad performing query.
And voila now you will have a deadlock on the wwv_flow_data table since a second session is trying to do the same thing while the first hasn't finished yet.
How to deal with it?
First of all. Have a good look at the bad performing query. Maybe you can improve it that it will succeed before the http server will timeout.
In my case the 11gr1 optimizer couldn't handle a subquery factoring clause in the best way. After changing it back to a classical inline query the problem was solved.
Secondly you could increase the timeout parameter of the http server. Although this not the best way.
Maybe it would better if APEX in a next version would release the lock on the table wwv_flow_date earlier or do a rollback just before the moment that the http server is timing out.

Mathieu MeeuwissenHello Shmoove,
I saw your reply here and you probably understand the problems the HTTP 100 response may cause.
I am trying to send image that was taken by getSnapshot. The problem is that the server respond with this HTTP 100 message.
I suspect that the reason that my server doesn't recognize the file that I'm sending from J2me is that the "server to client" response to the 100 message comes after the second message of (see what the TCPIP viewer shows down here):

Load Balancing Time Out Settings
Hi, getting error below and I'm sure its to do with Time Out on Load Balancing, anyone confirm as don't want to mess around with IIS...
The average of the most recent heartbeat intervals [499] for request [Ping] used by clients is less than or equal to [540].
Make sure that your firewall configuration is set to work correctly with Exchange ActiveSync and direct push technology. Specifically, make sure that your firewall is configured so that requests to Exchange ActiveSync do not expire before they have the opportunity
to be processed.
For more information about how to configure firewall settings when using Exchange ActiveSync, see Microsoft Knowledge Base article 905013, "Enterprise Firewall Configuration for Exchange ActiveSync Direct Push Technology" (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=3052&kbid=905013).

Hi
We have installed crystal reports server 2008 v1 in a windows 2008 R2 64 bits server.
We choose mysql as database and IIS for the web server.
The programer was made several reports and most of them work fine.
However , there is one report which gave him a time out error. He uses RAS.
I thought maybe in the web.config I can modify the session time out but when I open IIS , there are several web applications.
I don't know which one to modify.
Thanks for your help.Identical problem by different (?) user:

to process a request. How do I set the connection timeout for a
request in JRun.
I remember setting connetion time out in IIS, so I think it
should be here in JRun webserver configuration.
Any form of help is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Exchange 2000 portlets time out
Running the exchange ASPs both in an empty browser window and as portlets goes awfully slow. Adding all three portlets to one page makes at least one of them time out, regardless of the timeout setting. Running only one takes up to ten seconds to complete. The ASPs are installed on the same server as is running the Outlook Web Access. When running the OWA's default GUI it completes downloading in a couple of seconds so the server's capacity should not be the issue.
Could this be a problem with the authentication since the ASPs use basic authentication while the OWA uses windows authentication? Anyone have tips on how to speed 'em up?I will try and explain the implementation of MS Exchange Portlets and inturn try to solve the problem that we have at hand.
Outlook Web Access (OWA), is the default web access utility provided by Microsoft.
The MS Exchange portlets follow the earlier implementations OWA (OWA 5.5). This implementation is with Active Server Pages (ASP) and Collaboration Data Objects (CDO), these in turn rely on Messaging API (MAPI) function calls to retrieve messages from the Exchange Server. For each connected user, OWA must open a MAPI session with the Exchange server, but the number of open MAPI sessions that can be efficiently handled within an ASP session is limited. The architecture restricts the number of users that can simultaneously connect to an Outlook Web Access server.
Because of this, a major complaint that many users had with earlier OWA versions was performance.
Now coming to the implementation of OWA in Exchange 2000, rather than attempt to improve OWA's performance by tweaking the existing code, Microsoft developed OWA 2000 from scratch to take advantage of universal technologies like Web-Dav. In addition to this OWA 2000 uses XML and Dynamic HTML (DHTML) to improve performance and provide additional advanced features by offloading some rendering tasks to the client and reducing the amount of client-to-server communication.
So OWA 2000 will run fine without giving any performance issues. Same would be the case if you use IFrame to use load OWA.
Also contrary to what the OWA 2000 response time suggests, in these Portlets the server capacity would matter.
Information that would prove helpful to investigate this problem further would be;
1. What is the Exchange/IIS Server setup,
a. Are the Exchange/IIS on the same machine?
b. Machine configuration of each of the machines?(OS,RAM, Processor speed etc.)
c. Are the Exchange/IIS on the same Windows domain?
2. Number of users simultaneously accessing MS Exchange through Portlets.
If you can share this information regarding the setup/usage, we can investigate into this problem further, and try to solve the problem. -
Exchange 2013 issue / OWA time-out and WiFi/Cell problem.
Hi everybody,
I'm having some issues with an Exchange 2013 server.
When some users try to logon to the OWA page it keeps loading the page and ends with a time-out.
This only applies to 6 or 7 users, other users can login and open the page.
I tried to replace the signed certificate to solve this problem, and did a online analyzer check, most tests come out good.
I can't seem to find the source of this problem.
There are also multiple users that are having trouble to receive e-mail through the wifi on phones and tablets at home but when they switch to 3g it works fine.
You might need more information, just ask.. i don't know where to search anymore.
I tried inheritance on the AD, disabled SSL in the IIS, restarted the server, replaced the signed cert. etc.
Update:
I set the selfsigned cert in the IIS default web page,, to check if it responds to the certificate and it does, so the issue doesn't come from the certificate.
This issue probably came up after CU1, and i've read something about healthboxes..
I'm going to install CU6 and hope for good result.
Kind regards,
TimI've installed CU6, only one of the six users have gained access to OWA or ECP.
Al the other users won't get a logon screen, just a blank page.
So there is no option to insert a username or password to login, the page keeps loading and ends with "the page cannot be displayed"
But on my working spot i can open owa or ecp without any issues.
I've recreated the virtual directory for ECP and OWA with powershell, and checked the certificate.
I checked if the same certificate was connected to the back-end port 444, and this is set correct.
I even reconnected the cert on 444 with the following.
Open the Command Prompt
Run-
netsh http show sslcert
This will show the certs, copy and paste this information into notepad. Under IP:port : 127.0.0.1:443, note the certificate hash and application ID.
Run this command- (Yes, I know there is no :444 listed in the output from the earlier command.)
netsh http delete sslcert ipport=0.0.0.0:444
Run this command. Replace certhas with the certificate hash and appid with the application ID you saved in notepad.
netsh http add sslcert ipport=0.0.0.0:444 certhash=123123123123123 appid="{123123123123-1231231235}"
I used powershell to set the login authentication,
et-Owavirtualdirectory -identity "YourMailBoxServerName\owa (Exchange Back End)" -WindowsAuthentication $True -Basicauthentication $false -Formsauthentication $false
set-Owavirtualdirectory -identity "YourCASserverName\owa (Default Web Site)" -WindowsAuthentication $True -Basicauthentication $false -Formsauthentication $false
and iisreset /noforce
I unchecked the "require SSL" on the default website and left it enabled on the owa and ecp etc.
Checked if HTTP over Proxy is installed, but this one is need to install exchange 2013.
I've checked all ECP/OWA directories in in the IIS, the directories point to the Exchange V15 folders, this should be correct.
Something is really broken, i really can use the help..
I'm going to try to install Exchange 2013 SP1, but i don't know if this one is needed when CU6 has been installed.
The strange thing is, it seem to be location based, not user based.
I can login perfectly, but when i try this at one of the employees, it ends up blank.
When i try to connect on a location dat does not work, at the exact time i press the enter-key to open the page, the eventviewer logs the following:
Event 4634 - An account was logged off.
For the issue on the smartphones and tablets, everything worked fine a few months ago, and happens to users on different ISP connections.
I already checked the inheritance settings on the users in the AD.
Kind regards,
Tim

How to find Safari plug-in installed on a specific date?
I posted this question in the wrong community, so am re-posting here. I want to remove a Safari plug-in. I know how to find the plug-ins that have been installed (Safari > Help > Installed Plug-Ins), but the names of the plug-ins mean nothing to me.
