ILife 08 and iWork 08 great on Intel Macs, shameful on Power PC

We've all lived with Apple developing software towards the latest greats OS, but this is the most shameful experience I've had in ten plus years of buying their products.
Working with the new iLife 08 and iWork 08 software on the Intel computers is a joy.
Working with the same software on a dual 2.3 running 10.4.10 PowerPC G5 is a joke.

I too am still working on a G4 PM & iDVD6. Haven't upgraded to 08 yet. Plus I also work with apps like FCP HD and DVDSP3. I don't think this latter software (in terms of standalone pro versions) will even run on an intel based mac. So like Len, I too am at a standstill as far as further updates are concerned.
Unfortunately I don't see an easy solution to this short of buying all new software as well as new hardware.

  • Why are iLife and iWork apps not installed on my Mac?

Recently purchased a used iMac late 2013 model and met the seller at the Apple Store to factory reset the mac. Well that was done succesfully but upon my return home and unboxing the iMac once i logged on and went to look for iMovie app it was nowhere to be found. I looked for the other apps from iLife and iWork and they were nowhere either. I tried the search tool and nothing came up and when I went to search for them in the app store thinking I just had to re-download them they were not FREE for me to install.
Isn't iLife and iWorks included with every mac for free? CAn someone please help me get these if I am entitled to them for free or explain why I have to pay for them? TIA.
    -Freddy

They are free for the initial owner and if he accepts them at the app store, then they are permanently tied to his Apple ID and password. Their licenses are not transferable - subsequent owners must purchase the apps if they want them. Here are some excerpts from the licensing agreement:
    B. If you obtained the Apple Software preinstalled by Apple on Apple-branded hardware, in order to use
the Apple Software on more than one of the Apple-branded computers you own or control under the
Usage Rules, you must log in to the Mac App Store and associate the Apple Software with your Mac
App Store account. If you choose not to associate the preinstalled Apple Software with your Mac App
Store account, you are permitted to install, use and run one (1) copy of the Apple Software on a single
Apple-branded computer at any one time. Please also note that by choosing to associate the
preinstalled Apple Software with your Mac App Store account, you will also associate any other Apple
software applications that also came preinstalled by Apple on your Apple-branded hardware at the time
of purchase (excluding OS X, Safari, and system applications and tools).
    and:
Apple Software obtained from the Mac App Store is not transferable. If you sell your Apple-branded
hardware to a third party, you must remove the Apple Software from the Apple-branded hardware before doing so.
If the initial owner does NOT associate the software with his app store account (in other words, he does not accept / install them), then he may transfer his license rights to a subsequent buyer.

  • I bought a macbook air and iMac from third party with preinstalled ilife and iworks

I bought a macbook air and iMac from third party with preinstalled ilife and iworks, can I update to the latest ilife and iworks without being charged even though i did not purchase ilife and iworks on my preowned Macs.  I have no CD's or license for those products?
    thanks

No, you will not be able to do that.

  • I installed Mac OS 10.9.4, but did not get iLife and iWorks. How can I obtain these

I installed Mac OS 10.9.4, but did not get iLife and iWorks. How can I obtain these? Somebody talked about redemption codes, but I did not find any extra information. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance and best regards

If your computer shipped with Mac OS X 10.6.8 or earlier, install them from the computer's original disks.
If your computer shipped with Mac OS X 10.7 or newer, log into the Mac App Store with the Apple ID used to register the computer, click on the Purchases tab, and download them.
If neither of these is applicable, buy them from the Mac App Store.

  • The iLife and iWork apps for Mac OS X Mavericks

I tried to download the iLife and iWork apps for my macbook with OS X Mavericks for free but I only downloaded the Garage band. How am I supposed to get them to install on my macbook.

iWork apps are only free for users who bought a Mac after October 1st and for users who already have iWork '09, and iLife apps are free for users who already have iLife '11.
You mention that paid apps are the ones that you cannot download. What happens when you try to download them? If the Mac App Store asks you to pay for them, do it. You are using an old version or you have not got them installed

  • I HAVE ILIFE AND IWORK ON MAC AND I WANT TO PUT IT ON MY IPAD AND THERES NO FREE ILFIE AND IWORK ON MY IPAD BECAUSE ITS THE IPAD 2

I HAVE ILIFE AND IWORK ON MAC AND I WANT TO PUT IT ON MY IPAD AND THERES NO FREE ILFIE AND IWORK ON MY IPAD BECAUSE ITS THE IPAD 2

That is the correct behaviour, since your Mac probably came with the now free versions of iWork and iLife, but as your iPad is from 2011, it did not come with such free versions.
You sadly have to purchase the iLife and iWork products via the iOS App Store if you want to use them on your iPad 2.

  • Installing ilife and iWork on on Macbook Pro with Mavericks

I purchased a MacBook Pro, used, and although it has Mavericks, ilife and iWork are not installed, the seller must have deleted them (or never installed them?) When I go to the app store, they show they need to be purchased. I thought they were included? How do I reinstall?
    Thanks a million,
    E

Preparing a 2nd Hand Mac for use -
You need to erase the HDD, reinstall the version of OS X that shipped from the factory on the Mac and then set it up as new with your own Apple ID.

  • How to reinstall iLife and iWork in macbook after reinstallation of maverick

I need help to reinstall the iLife and iWork which was initially preinstalled in my new macbook pro late 2013. Unfortunately, both were gone after I did a Maverick reinstallation as I accidentally deleted some wrong files causing OS to crash. Appstore requires I pay for it although both apps were initially free and bundled together with my laptop. Kindly advise.

Hi Terence, I have solved the predicament. Apparently I was using my wife's apple ID when I first register my macbook. Therefore, I am now able to redownload the iphoto through appstore.
    Thank you by the way.

    No.

  • Does the new Macbook Air not have iLife and iWork Apps?

My old Macbook Air came with iLife and iWorks installed. My new Macbook Air with osX does not. Am I missing something?

It comes with GarageBand, iMovie and iPhoto.  If you want pages and numbers, must buy in the App store or theiWork DVD.

  • Media browser in iLife and iWork apps do not displays the iPhoto lib

My iMedia Browser can't find the iPhote library anymore. The same goes for my Aperture library. So i can't find my photo in any of the iLife or iWork apps from the media browser. I have na idea what the problem is. Everthing (for example the iPhoto lib) is in its correct place. I already rebuild the iPhoto lib with no results. What can i do? thx in advance.

    Paul:
First, try deleting the com.apple.iApps.plist preference file, reboot and try again.
The the above doesn't help reapply these updates: iLife Media Browser Update and iLife Support 9.0.3. Repair disk permissions afterward and reboot.

  • From Mavericks to Mountain Lion - iLife and iWorks

My MacBook Pro Retina came with Mountail Lion installed, I upgraded to Mavericks and also upgraded iWork and iLife to the new versions that came out at the same time.  If I was to wipe my mac and reinstall Mountail Lion, will I be able to download the previous versions of iWork and iLife which were compatable with Montain Lion.

Yes. I have done this with a 2012 Mac Mini that came with OS X Mountain Lion and a 2012 MBP Retina that came with OS X Lion; then upgraded to ML. On the Retina, I used a USB thumb drive with ML to reinstall.
    For your system:
Boot into Internet Recovery (command+option+R) which boots to Apple's server and loads their Recovery HD.
Erase your Macintosh HD then Reinstall OS X which will reinstall ML.
After installation and during Setup, make sure you enter the same Apple ID/password you used when you Accepted your iLife apps and purchased your iWork apps (assuming you purchased these from the App Store).
Log into the App Store and you should see under the Purchase tab your iWork and iLife apps to download. These will be the non-Mavericks versions.

  • How do I get iLife and iWork back after HD failure

While I was backing up my HD with Time Capsule the other day, it started to fail (yes, irony abounds).
Cloning didn't work and so I have a repair shop trying to recover my data. I did get a new HD and clean install of Lion (which is what I was using before the failure), but I don't have a complete Time Capsule backup.
What I do have is an older drag-and-drop copy of my User folder and almost all of my apps, but some of them, most notably iWork and iLife, do not drag-and-drop sucessfully.
I tried to go to the App Store, but it seems that there's no record of me buying iWork via the App Store (I can't remember how I bought it) and I can't seem to figure out a way to get iLife back.
    What am I doing wrong?
Also, alas, my AppleCare has expired, so the Genius Bar isn't an option.
    Thanks!

But of course, my point never was that Apple should "give it away for free." But if disaster strikes, then I don't see a problem with Apple offering re-downloads of AAC files that...
    1. the customer has already paid for, and...
    2. to a customer that can be positively identified (i.e. can login to the iTunes Store with the same credentials used to purchase the material originally), and...
    3. to one of the customer's "authorized" computers.
This just seems like a complete no-brainer of a customer goodwill policy.

  • What to do with old versions of iLife and iWork

    Hi,
I just now upgraded to Mavericks and subsequently updated all of my Apple apps. I now have dedicated folders for some of the older apps. I'd like to preserve hard drive space and was wondering if I could delete the previous versions without any harm done? Thanks in advance!

Do not be in any hurry to delete the old versions.  The jury is out on the new iOS type Pages and Numbers, which have one or two functions omitted.  I personally am fully in favour of having iOS7 and Mavericks apps the same, for familiarity sake, but others miss Mail Merge for one thing and Header/Footers in Numbers.  I don't use these and there are ways around the problem.
Also note that once a document has been saved in the new version, it cannot be opened in the old one, so be careful.
