ILife 08 language support - Japanese / English

I live in Japan, but am a native English speaker. I had to purchase iLife 08 from the Japanese web site (Apple Store) and the DVD is all in Japanese. If I open it can I install the iLife 08 software in English? I don't want to open it unless I am sure so I will be able to return it if necessary. Thanks in advance.
David

I bought mine yesterday in Ginza. Don't worry about the packaging or the box. As Tom wrote above, "iLife is multilingual. When it is installed, it displays in whatever language your system" - so just insert the disk and choose English and the UI will be in English. After the software is installed you can easily switch to Japanese if you want (my wife uses Nihongo on her account I created on the iMac so her UI is in Japanese - but even then on my English UI account, I can mix typewritten text in Japanese easily as well - that is the beauty of Apple).
One comment though - if you've ever used iMovie HD 6.0 you'll be very disappointed in iMovie '08 - it *****. So be prepared - you've been warned. Just check out the threads is this Discussion. Read on.

  • Language Support (keyboard)

I'm wondering if I've simply overlooked something obvious in the international keyboards. It seems that I can't find any of the Indian languages among the lists of supported keyboard layouts. Is this something that I can change or maybe something that is going to be added at some point? I have been waiting for this support since the release of the 1st iphone. How do I add this functionality? Looking for Hindi, Gujarati, Punjabi...etc.

  • Does Mac OS 10.8.2 support dictionary in language other than English.

Does Dictionary in Safari and Mail support language other than English (say Chinese and Japanese)?  In iOS, I can simply highlight a word, press "Define" and boom...result is there.  But in Mac OS, I tried highlighting Chinese and Japanese words, dictionary replied with "Result not found".  Is this a setting issue or foreign language dictionary is not yet available in 10.8.2?  Thanks!

Wow.....that's fantastic!  I couldn't understand a word from my supplier before.  Now it works, thanks Tom!

  • East Asian language support for adding closed captions (Japanese)

I am trying to add Japanese subtitles to my project as closed captions. However, once added the Japanese captions show as little white boxes in the preview pane.
Is there no way to add Asian language support so it displays?
I am using Premiere Pro CC (US English version although I am located in Japan).

    Hello drummonds,
Is your Mac connected to an internet connection?
Is your device unlocked and you are using a different carrier than that of the one branded to your device?
Backup your device data and reinstall your software as shown in KB19915; once the reload completes try going back into the Add/Remove applications tab.
Let me know how you make out.

    Hi,
I want to know that does Active Directory Support Non English Languages like japanes, Arabian?
I think we can have domain name in non english languages also. How active directory handles it.

This actually isn't controlled by Active Directory but by the core operating system and its language packs.

  • English List of languages supported in OSX (not programation languages)

Hello from France. Excuse my bad english.
Does anyone has a simple list (in english) of all the languages supported by Mavericks ? (not the programation languages, the real spoken and written languages all over the world )
i found some of them in the fonts information, and others in the system préférences "Langues et texte", but i'm probably missing them, and i can't  type some asiatic names because i don't know what font to use and i can't use copy/paste inside system preferences)
    Many thanks.
    Cordially, Joan.

Thanks Eric, but that's not what i'm searching for.
I found 60 languages used in OSX, but some people tell about 140.
This is how my list begins, and i search the most exhaustive list.

  • NLS - National Language Support - English (Canada) [en-ca]

    Hello,
My Application Primary Language is "English (United States) [en-us]"
My Application Language Derived From is "Browser (use browser language preference)"
My Internet Explorer 6.0 Language Preference is "English (Canada) [en-ca]"
Should'nt this set my default date format to the Canadian format of YYYY-MM-DD? I am using Apex 2.0.
When I do a debug, I get the following information:
    0.00: alter session set nls_language="ENGLISH"
    0.00: alter session set nls_territory="CANADA"
    0.00: NLS: CSV charset=WE8MSWIN1252
    0.00: ...Setting NLS Decimal separator=","
    0.00: ...Setting NLS Group separator=" "
    0.00: ...Setting NLS date format="RR-MM-DD"
    0.00: NLS: Language=en-ca

    Paul.

That's a brilliant question. Probably the answer would be the same as the logic going into the default date format in the US being DD-MON-RR, which nobody in the US ever uses.
If it were up to me, I'd love to make the default date formats in APEX be 'DS', which is territory-specific and is correct:
    SQL> alter session set nls_territory = canada;
    Session altered.
    SQL> select to_char(sysdate,'DS') from dual;
    TO_CHAR(SY
2007-03-16But of course, this date format is new in 10gR1 and not available in 9iR2, which APEX still supports. And then there's the legacy problem, if people have come to rely upon this incorrect default behavior and now we change it. Regardless, I'll file an enhancement request on this.

  • Japanese Language Support for Jolt

    Hi All,
We are facing a problem with Japanese language support for
Jolt 1.2. Our present system configuration is as follows:
Win 95 (Japanese) Client (using ASP) -> Win NT Japanese Webserver
    -> Tuxedo 6.4 (japanese) on HP-UX -> Oracle 8.0.5.
Without Jolt, our system is running fine. But with ASP web connectivity,
Jolt is returning garbage characters for the Japanese fields. We
believe that this is because Jolt java classes will support only
    ISO_8895_1 encoding (?) while the
one we want in our front end is Shift_JIS.
Has anyone already written a wrapper class to get around this?
Or is there a more elegant solution? Any sample code would be greatly
    appreciated.

  • How can I get English language support in South Korea?

I'm British living in South Korea. A few times now I have needed to get in touch with support but the Korean site only has Korean language. My Korean is not good enough to have a conversation in Korean. Anyone know how I can get Englsih language support in South Korea?

Is there an official site where I can install a
    language pack for Armenian?
Armenian reading and writing support is already included in OS X. The font is called Mshtakan. To input you need to activate one of the Armenian keyboard layouts by going to system preferences/international/input menu and checking their boxes, plus the box for "show input menu in Finder," then selecting Armenian in the "flag" menu at the top right of the finder.
Armenian requires a modern Unicode app and will not work with Appleworks or Word X.
OS X does not yet have an Armenian system localization (menu and dialogues).
If you don't have the things described above on your system, let us know.

  • Multi-language support

The web has truly made products world-wide the instant they
appear - but supporting the many, many languages and character sets
of the world takes a bit longer. Today, Buzzword is US English
    based only.
Buzzword will support languages other than US English in the
future. There are a number of pieces involved in supporting a
language - including support for non-US keyboards, dictionaries for
spell check, localized user interface and terminology and more. We
have plans to support many languages - and will keep this forum up
    to date on those plans.
In the meantime, for those of you who work in a non-US
language, we suggest turning off the spell check dictionary: from
the Buzzword menu, choose "Settings and Preferences", then uncheck
the "Flag mispelled words" checkbox. This will make performance
better as spell check will flag most words in a foreign language as
misspelled, i.e. not English. Many Western European keyboards will
    work with Buzzword today.
Buzzword does not support languages that are RTL (right to
left) such as some Middle East languages. And Asian languages -
Chinese, Japanese and others - are also not supported at this time.

    Please see
    another
posting in the Buzzword forum for a more detailed explanation
of the issues of supporting other languages, characters, etc.
Although Buzzword has been created to support many languages,
there are a number of technical issues that need to be
    addressed.

  • Language support by NLS_CHARACTERSET:AL32UTF8

    Hi,
I have very less idea about the multiple language support in oracle database.
    select * from nls_database_parameters where parameter like '%CHARACTERSET';
    It returns me:
    NLS_CHARACTERSET     AL32UTF8
    NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET     AL16UTF16
    SELECT * FROM NLS_SESSION_PARAMETERS;
    It returns me:
    PARAMETER     VALUE
    NLS_LANGUAGE     AMERICAN
    NLS_TERRITORY     AMERICA
    NLS_CURRENCY     $
    NLS_ISO_CURRENCY     AMERICA
    NLS_NUMERIC_CHARACTERS     .,
    NLS_CALENDAR     GREGORIAN
    NLS_DATE_FORMAT     DD-MON-RR
    NLS_DATE_LANGUAGE     AMERICAN
    NLS_SORT     BINARY
    NLS_TIME_FORMAT     HH.MI.SSXFF AM
    NLS_TIMESTAMP_FORMAT     DD-MON-RR HH.MI.SSXFF AM
    NLS_TIME_TZ_FORMAT     HH.MI.SSXFF AM TZR
    NLS_TIMESTAMP_TZ_FORMAT     DD-MON-RR HH.MI.SSXFF AM TZR
    NLS_DUAL_CURRENCY     $
    NLS_COMP     BINARY
    NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS     BYTE
    NLS_NCHAR_CONV_EXCP     FALSE
Can you tell me,according to the above configuration, what languages will be supported by this database(oracle 10g)?
I would need to store german, japanese, chinese and etc...Is it possible to do so?
Can the change in the database setting help me to achieve inserting as well as retrieving data in numerous languages? Then what is the change that needs to be made.I don't want any junk values like inverted question mark during retrieval.
    Can anyone please help?
    Thanks a lot in advance.

The NLS_CHARACTERSET setting of AL32UTF8 means that the database supports Unicode. So you can store virtually any character from any language in a CHAR or VARCHAR2 column in the database.
Retrieving and displaying the characters, as well as providing a GUI to enter the data properly, depends on client and application settings. For example, my operating system (an English language version of Windows) doesn't support Chinese characters using the default code page. So if I queried Chinese data that was properly stored in the database in SQL*Plus, the conversion would fail. You would need an application that had native support for Unicode (i.e. iSQL*Plus, many/most browser based apps, etc). On the other hand, a user of the Chinese language version of Windows would be able to query that same data via SQL*Plus because that version of Windows supported the necessary characters in the default code page. In order for that to happen, though, the Chinese client's NLS_LANG would have to be set in order to convert the characters from Unicode to the client's default code page.
