ILife '08 on the MacBook...

Hey, has anyone tried iLife '08 on a MacBook yet? How does it run?
I use iPhoto '06 a lot at the moment but even that runs quite slowing...

It works fine on mine. I have 2 GB of RAM so that helps alot. With 1 GB it probably would be slow.

  • Does iLife come in the MacBook package?

I got a MacBook for Christmas 2007 and I had to do a clean install of Leopard. It didn't install iLife onto my machine. I have searched my house for the iLife disk but I can only find the Leopard restore disks. So I'm wondering if iLife came in the original package at all? And can you get it back on without paying $80 for a fresh copy?

When I had to reformat my MacBook (Late 2008) I believe iLife was on the 2nd disk. I know it was included. I am not sure if the same can be said for something bought in 2007. I would call you local Mac Store or a Mac Store, you would probably get a quick answer. Just a thought.

The seller should have given you the original disk so that you can reinstall as needed. But it likely was a single-user license (which really means single computer) so you can only have a copy on one computer at a time. If the seller didn't give you the disk he is probably still using the software on his new Mac. Your best option to get any of the iWork apps to use in OS X 10.6.6 or later is through the Mac App Store. You can then install them on any Mac you have that has access to the Mac App Store using your Apple ID.

  • I changed the country from US to Mexico in my App Store Account. Now I can´t reinstall iLife apps onto my Macbook. Please help

I changed the country from US to Mexico in my App Store Account. Now I can´t reinstall iLife apps onto my Macbook. When I try to download them, a message says that they are available in my purchased apps, but they don't appear under that menu. Please help

The issue is that you purchased the apps in the US app store, not in the Mexican App Store.
If you set your App Store back to US, then you should be able to access your purchases from teh US Store.

  • I cannot found iLife app on my macbook pro and when i want to buying it i cannot and i have this massage (These apps cannot be accepted by your Apple ID.These apps were already assigned to another Apple ID, and they will be available in that Apple ID's P)

i cannot found iLife app on my macbook pro and when i want to buying it i cannot and i have this massage (These apps cannot be accepted by your Apple ID.These apps were already assigned to another Apple ID, and they will be available in that Apple ID's purchases list. If you don't have access to that AppleID and want to receive future updates, you will needto purchase the applications ) what i want to do now ? please tell me

Either use the Apple ID you used when you originally purchased the applications or you will have to purchase them using your Apple ID. If you did not have the other Apple ID, then you have the applications illegally or they were improperly included with a computer you purchased from someone else.

  • How will the Macbook do in the long run ?

I will be buying a new Macbook when Leopard and iLife 07 are released. However, I have been increasingly hearing and reading negative feedback about the Intel GMA950 in the Macbook, so I've been looking to stretch my budget and get the low end 15" Macbook Pro instead. I know the GMA950 is sufficient for Core Image in Tiger and Leopard, but what when OS X.6 is released, say in about 2,5 tot 3 years ? I can't afford to buy a new Mac every 3 years. So basically, I'm wondering whether the Macbook is a 'futureproof' investment. I simple cannot believe that 64Mb of video memory will be sufficient, especially when you see that every graphics card you can find, even the cheap ones, carry 128Mb or more. I'm not going to ask whether the next revision of the Macbook will feature an improved graphics system, or if more video memory can be allocated by a firmware update (although that will eat away even more system memory), but I think that many people are asking themselves these questions. I don't need a powerful videocard now, since I'm not a gamer and don't do heavy 3D-stuff ; I'll be using my macbook for photo-editing (low end photoshop elements - plan to wait for universal binary), video-editing (iMovie, maybe Final Cut Express), iDVD, webdesign (Rapidweaver),... so really no high-end stuff. So I'm only 'thinking about the future' ! Thx for any feedback !

GMA950 shares memory the 64 MB is with the 512 MB ram. The more ram you have the more is shared I believe. Here is the spec on this site.
Memory available to Mac OS X may vary depending on graphics needs. Minimum graphics memory usage is 80MB, resulting in 432MB of system memory available on 1.83GHz models and 944MB of system memory available on 2.0GHz models.
This is with the stock memory that comes in each.
It varies depending on what you are doing and RAM installed.
I don't think any computer is "futureproof" but I personally think the MacBook is good enough for what you describe and will be for quite a while. I use it now with 1.25 gig of ram and watch movies in the background while working in photoshop CS. I have also run two different movies at the same time in separate windows to view differences as I work on them. No lag or problems have been noticed when I do this.
If you can afford it get the macbook pro but I don't think you will be disappointed with the macbook. You definitely get a lot of bang for your buck.

  • Graphics card in the MacBook

I'm about to buy the black Macbook, but I'm afraid that the Intel GMA 950 graphics processor is not good enough for the apps like iPhoto and iMovie.
Will I have to buy a MacBook Pro to run these apps satisfying or is the graphics card in the MacBook enough?
      Windows XP Pro

The entire iLife suite will run beautifully on the MacBooks with the GMA950 chipset. It is only when you attempt to play some higher end games that the chipset falls short.

No.  10.7 never came one a disk.  Read this:
Restoring iLife applications after Internet Restore of OS X Lion
If you reinstall Lion on a new Mac that shipped with OS X Lion installed, on an erased or replaced hard drive, you can download iPhoto, iMovie, and GarageBand from the Mac App Store.
    After installation, start from Lion.
Double-click the App Store icon in the dock.
Enter your Apple ID and password.
    Click Purchases.
If you haven't previously accepted your bundled iLife applications within the Mac App Store, you should see your iLife applications appear in the Accept portion of the screen. Click Accept.
You may be asked for your Apple ID and password once again. Your iLife applications now move to the Purchased section. These applications are part of the software that came with your Lion based computer. Your account will not be charged for them. Click Install to compete installation of your applications.

  • No iLife in a new Macbook Pro

I just bought a Macbook Pro (july 2009) and did all my updating and registration. But nowhere in the finder can I see the iLife applications.
I've checked and double checked the specs for my model and iLife is supposed to have come as bundled software. (It's also shown on the box).
However, it does not seem to have been installed and the only disc included with the Macbook is an Leopard installation CD and a Hardware Test Utility CD.
How can I isntall (or find) iLife in my Macbook?
    Thanks!

Rerun the Leopard installation disc and see if it is on there. The MBP in the US comes with two discs: 1 OS X disc, and 1 Applications disc. It might also be on your Hardware disc.
Since you are in Mexico, we can't really know here in the States exactly where those application installation files are.
iLife IS included as a part of the basic MBP setup -- but I don't know what the legalities are as to what software is installed in the factory for each country.

  • Can I install iLife '11 on my MacBook Air?

I want to buy the 5 user version of iLife '11 but obviously there is no disc drive on my MacBook Air and I cannot download from the app store as I need the 5 user version. I also don't have a working external disc drive at the moment but a friend mentioned something about "Remote Disc" though she was unsure as to whether I could use Remote Disc to load applications such as iLife... Thank you in advance for your help!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you have another Mac or PC, you can use Remote Disc to install iLife on the MacBook Air > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1777 If not, the other option is to use an external DVD drive as the best option, but Remote Disc is also a way

  • Do I need to pay for iLife to access the internet?

If not, then what kind of software does the Macbook Pro use to access the internet???

And if you don't like Safari, use it to download the free Mozilla browser, Firefox!
However, with a .Mac account and iLife you can make web pages faster than a speeding bullet!

  • Software between the macbook and ibook

    ok
    i'm getting a refurbished ibook
and i now know that they have two different software
    IBOOK
    - iWork ‘05 30-day trial
    - AppleWorks
    - Quicken 2005 for Macintosh
    - Nanosaur 2
    - Marble Blast Gold
    - Apple Hardware Test
    MACBOOK
    - iLife ’06
    - iWork ’06 Trial
    - Front Row
    - Photo Booth
    - Comic Life
    - OmniOutliner
    - Big Bang Board Games
can you macpeople compare the different software for me?
    THX

All the software on the MacBook will be universal binary based so that it will run on the Intel processor without issue. The iBook has a G4 processor. That was the latest PowerPC processor to go into a laptop, but not the latest PowerPC processor. The G5 processor apparently turned out to run too hot to put into a laptop.
If you already have software that needs a PowerPC, that would be the best reason other than price to stick with the older technology. If you do not have old software, you should go with the newest technology, the MacBook. Especially if you already have windows software, some of which can run on the Intel MacBook.
Not having a MacBook myself, I'd be reluctant to comment much further. However, the iMac Intel I purchased was not new, but runs like new, and I'm extremely pleased with it. My iBook G4 was purchased new two years ago before I learned the advantages of buying a refurbished Mac from Apple. Since then I steered someone else in the family into a refurb iBook, and they've been very happy with it. It was just as nice as mine was when it was new.
By the way, I'm pretty sure that any iBook will have iLife included with it, but it won't run as fast as it will on the MacBook.

  • Can I install Ilife 8 onto my macbook from my new iMac install discs?

    I am confused!
I was in an Apple retails store yesterday checking out the new iMacs as I will shortly be buying one, a 24" 2.8Ghz model. As this will come loaded with Leopard and iLife 08 I was also planning on buying the DVD's of both ready to install on my Macbook so that both computers would be running the same versions of the OS and iLife. However, the salesperson I was discussing this with told me that I would be able to install iLife 08 onto my Macbook from the install disc that comes with my new iMac as the software is licenced to the user not the machine, thereby saving me from having to buy it.
Is this true? And what about Leopard?I always thought that the software discs only worked on one machine, i.e. the one it came with.

Here's a link to the Apple user agreement for iLife 08.
    http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/ilife08.pdf
Item 2 states that you may install iLife on ONE Apple Branded Computer. The family pack allows you to install on up to 5 in the same household.
The discs that come with your new iMac are specific to the iMac and should not be installed onto any other Mac. The retail version of Leopard can be installed on any Mac...but once again one license one machine.

  • Keep my PowerBook or go for the MacBook?

Currently I have a 12" 1.33ghz PowerBook that I bought in 2004. I've been thinking about sending it to a 3rd party authorized repair place to get her upgraded and cleaned up... been wanting a Superdrive put in and case is distorted because of an accident about a year ago. The area around the cd drive is all bent so sometimes cd's won't eject properly on the first try, and also there was a warping issue around the latch button. Sending my PB into www.macservice.com would cost me about $500-$600 with these repairs so I started questioning if I should just bite the bullet and finance a new computer and sell this one. Other than the cosmetic issues the computer is in great shape.
I really like the look of the new Black MacBooks. I definitely need a SuperDrive as I am a Multimedia major at my University. I went and played with them at my local Apple store and the new intel chips run great. One of the associates showed me a demonstration where he opened all of the apps in the Applications folder at once and I was amazed... my PB would have probably died. I like all the new features and this one is over 2 years old so I was thinking why spend the money to upgrade when I can keep up with technology and get a new one? Any thoughts?
Since I am a Multimedia major I do have my doubts... will the MacBook be enough because of my use with Photoshop, extensive iLife, Dreamweaver, Flash, maybe some light FinalCut work? Would the MacBook with 2mb of ram and fully loaded be sufficient?
Any advice would be great, thanks guys

Aside from the integrated graphics thingy, why whould a MB not be enough? The processor in the mid-range MB is as fast as the processor in the lower end MBP and only.16 less than the top of the heap MBP AND .16 ghz faster than the low-end MBP 2 weeks ago!. What is .16 ghz?
From a multimedia/graphics professional's viewpoint, the graphics processor and the display resolution alone are enough to rule a MacBook out. Processor speed isn't everything.
As for some applications not being Universal, no they won't perform as well as they would do being Universal. Although, it really a moot point unless a PowerPC laptop were being considered.
As a professional the OP should be buying the tool that fits the trade. Buying a lesser tool only costs time and money in the long run.
