ILife Apps will not work after Time Machine restore
I just did a clean install of Leopard, and restored my user account from my Time Machine backup. All applications work except for iLife 09 apps.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm desperate. iPhoto has all my photos (photo library still in Pictures folder).
This is my first time doing this, you would think as seamless as Apple is their iLife apps would at least work!!
How did you restore your user account? Could you outline what you did, step by step?

Mountain Lion Server Web Server not working after time machine restore
Our Mountain Lion Server (mac mini) lost its drive yesterday. We got a new mac mini and did a time machine restore. Everything in the Server seems to be working (users, groups, file shares, etc) except for the web server.
Trying to connect to the server results in safari not being able to connect to the server. Even just clicking on the "view server website" link in the Server app doesn't work.
We've tried stopping / restarting the services. We have confirmed that the files in Library / Server with the web pages were restored.
Are there any gotchas, troubleshooting steps or guides anyone can point me to? I'd like to get our wiki back.
Thanks

Apple Modem will not answer after Time Machine Restore
After restoring from a Time Machine backup the Apple External Modem no longer answers incoming [fax] calls. I verified all modem/fax settings - they are good and the same as before the restore. The Modem Status in the Menu Bar doesn't indicate "ringing..." when the line is ringing and the Fax no longer answers.
Opening the Console I see these errors repeating endlessly-
9/15/08 10:09:10 AM com.apple.service_helper[1271] com.apple.efax: Already loaded
9/15/08 10:09:10 AM [0x0-0x15015].com.apple.systempreferences[155] No matching processes were found
9/15/08 10:09:27 AM com.apple.efax[1274] /usr/bin/fax: line 537: cd: /var/spool/fax: No such file or directory
I believe the fax app is supposed to create this dir, but I created the dir in /var/log/ as follows:
drwxr-xr-x 2 root wheel 68 Sep 15 10:33 fax
Makes no difference, rebooted, still makes no difference, ran disk utility to see if it would change permissions, no it didn't - still getting the errors, so there's something else that's also missing after a restore, or the error message is erroneous since the dir now exists.
It appears a Time Machine Restore - doesn't restore all that's needed for the fax subsystem to work. I thought the restore was supposed to completely restore the volume to previous operating state?
Any help on this would be great, I now have no incoming FAX - one of the main jobs of this Mini - thx - KRBy the way, it's running OS X 10.5.4

App store and Safari not working after Time Machine restore to new hardware.
I just had to install a new hard drive to my mid 2010 imac. I restored with time machine. I cannot find the original OS disc. Upon restoring it appears there is a problem with the webkit framework as Safari, App store, and Skype all freeze upon clicking on them and after bouncing, they never open. Chrome is working. What do I do?
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. -
Password does not work after time machine restore and can not reset from CD
The hard drive failed on my Power Mac G5. I replaced it and restored everything from Time Machine. The two non -admin accounts I can log into fine but my password for the admin account does not. I tried resetting it booting from the OSX CD and using the password reset utility. It says it has done its thing but then I reboot and try to log in same problem. It even has the old password hint. I changed that so I could see if it worked. I tried both my account and the root account out of desperation. Any help appreciated!

Safari will not open after time machine restore
My old iMac (intel) had a hard disc failure the otehr day so I went out an bought a new one. Using setup assistant, I restored my old computer from Time Machine to the new computer.
The old machine was completely up to date - had all the latest software updates.
Everything now seems to work EXCEPT - Safari and AccountEdge software both immediately crash upon any attempt to open.
Here is what I have done to attempt to rectify:
1. Shut down everything in entire network and rebooted all (3 macs, router, switch, etc.)
2. Check and repaired disk permissions
3. Deleted and re-installed AccountEdge
4. Created a new user and attempted to launch Safari (same result)
5. Updated all software....
Nothing has made a difference....
I cannot even download a different web brower to attempt to find solutions on the machine in question.....
All other programs seem to function normally....

Apache not working after time machine restore
i had major problems upgrading to 10.5.3. after trying everything and hoping to avoid reverting to a backup, it was apparent i would have to revert. turns out, it was quite easy since i had a recent TM backup. now, i'm back to 10.5.2 fine, but for what ever reason i cannot getweb sharing ... my apache site ... running.
i've checked to see that all the necessary config files are there and my content is all there and in the system preferences, web sharing is on. but when i go to 192.168.1.11 (which happens to be the internal IP address for this machine), i get nothing.
not being super apache experienced, i'm lacking the troubleshooting knowledge to figure out why it's not working.
please advise.
thanks!!!!thanks. yes, currently, i'm back to running 10.5.2.

TS1702 Certain apps will not work after ios6 install.
Certain apps will not work after ios6 update. Tiger Woods golf will run for about 5 seconds and stop. Have uninstalled/re-installed to no avail.
My husband had the same problem with some apps after I updated his iPad 2 to iOS 5. I checked the app store and there were updates for the apps to support the new software. After updating, all apps work just fine.

IWork free with new purchase but not available after time machine restore
Tried to find the best place to put this and this is the best I can surmise.
iWork is now supposedly free with the purchase of a new Mac. I received a new MacBook Pro 2 days ago. The problem is, I wanted to keep all my old settings/apps/features/files without spending 2 weeks resetting everything back up, so I used time machine to restore my machine to the state of my old MacBook Air. Unfortunately, it does not look like any iWork apps remained in the Applications folder (makes sense), but now I go to the App store and Pages, Numbers, and Keynote are all listed as $19.99.
I only assume that my time machine restore was the issue (I don't know if the apps were ever in the Applications folder at all), but since time machine is a feature Apple supports I would assume they support some way to make this work as well. How do I go about getting iWork without paying $60?
ThanksThere are several reasons why the updates don't show as free for those who already have iWork '09 installed.
1. You must have iWork '09 apps installed & they must be updated to the x.3 version. You can also download the standalone updater from this page.
2. If you are not using English as the primary language for your Mac, change to English & run Software Update. You can then switch back to your preferred language.
3. Go to Mac App Store (MAS) > Click on Store > Check for Unfinished Downloads. You will need to individually click into each application > Click update > enter in your Apple ID & password and then it will start updating.
4. Open App Store on your Mac & look at the buttons under Keynote, Pages & Numbers. If it does not say “Update” click Account under Quick Links, enter your password & click “View Account.” Next, click the “Reset” button to the right of “Reset all warnings for buying and downloading” at the bottom of this page, & click Done. Check your updates tab & iWork & iLife updates should now appear.
These are the ones I've seen work for others. -
My Time Capsule is constantly flashing yellow and it will not preform periodic back-ups. When I tell it to from the icon on the top task bar, it freezes MacBook...every time. I am now dragging files from internal HD to TC found in Finder after hardwiring it to laptop treating it as an external HD. Can in trust it to store files and photos as my MacBook is telling me to back-up because my internal HD is corrupt and may need replacing?
Thanks in advance.A PC can have more issues connecting than a Mac.
But it really should not matter.. so just try it in situ.. press and hold the reset.. once it starts up, it will return to default IP, 10.0.1.1 the PC should then be able to find it via the airport utility.
If not drag it over to the Mac and plug in there by ethernet.. or since it is a laptop, really should not be that difficult to drag the Laptop and plug it into the TC.
Important thing is to get access to the TC.
The Mac if it is running lion, then you MUST download and install 5.6 airport utility to do anything useful.

IPhoto not working after Time Machine backup on new MacBookPro - HELP!!!
I just upgraded to a MacBook Pro, 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7 w/ 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3, Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K540)
Backed up from Time Machine to load all my files from my old MacBook Pro which seemed to work fine for all applications except for iPhoto.
At launch of iPhoto, I get
1. "The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto."
2. After clicking upgrade (I'm running on all current software), I get "There is a problem accessing one or more files in your iPhoto library. Do you want iPhoto to repair permissions for this library for you?"
3. After clicking upgrade and typing in my password, I get "iPhoto was unable to repair permissions for the library." and iPhoto quits.
I've held Option/Command when launching iPhoto and have clicked all boxes and the problem still persists.
How can I get to my photos?See Old Toads suggestion and settings for using BatchMod here

Iphoto not working after time machine install
I have a first gen intel iMac and the hard drive had a sudden failure I was not overly concerned about my Data as I use time machine. I had a new Hard Drive installed and I used time machine to install back to snow leopard. all seems fine for a few days and every thing (software and hard ware (scanner)) was working fine. then I opened iPhoto to add a few new photos and all I get is the spining beach ball the library is 26 gig in size and was working fine before. I am at a loss as I still have all 9745 original photos on back up drive but not in order like in iPhoto and really don't want to recreate my library all over again. I've done disk permissions and only seem to have a problem with Java any body got any ideas?
Hi there Guys
I don't know if this is a true fix but my iPhoto 11 is now working iPhoto had an update and I did it to both my iPhoto programs (mac book and iMac) I then opened the not working librery on the laptop and it said the library need to be updated it did this and opened okay and all was working fine (I copied library on to a portable FireWire HD) when I copied it back to my iMac it said the same and went through the update and is now working fine. -

Files not visible after Time Machine restoring
Hi,
I've had some problems with my Mac and decided to format the hard drive. After the formatting I tried to restore some of the older folders from the Time Machine backup disk. The program copied them onto the harddrive without any problems and when I look at how much space is left it's obvious that they are there but I can't see them. I've also tried to restore some small documents but the same problem occurs, they are invisible! They don't show up when I search for them either.I would be very happy if someone could help me out!! Thanks a lot!Ardarve wrote:
Thanks a lot Pondini!! Different name of the user account was the problem. I changed it back to the previous name and the problem was solved
Yay!
The reason for the formatting was that I've had problems during the starting up for quite some time. The start up process didn't go any further than the grey backdrop. After the 30th attempt or something the computer started up. I've tried to solve the problem in several ways but without any success. At first I thought that there were some hardware problems but the formatting did the thing. My computer works fine now!! Thanks again!
If such a thing happens again, don't jump immediately to the most drastic solution.
It's very rare that a complete erase is required on OSX.
Simply reinstalling OSX is far simpler. You've posted in the Leopard forums -- in that case you'd do an +*Archive and Install, preserving users and settings.+* If you're on Snow Leopard as your signature says, you'd just do an Install. Afterwards, you'd download and install the "combo" update to get back to the correct version of OSX.
Neither will affect your data. The main difference is, the Archive & Install leaves a +Previous System+ folder on your Mac that you need to delete when you're sure you don't need anything from it; the Snow Leopard Install doesn't. -
InputManagers doesnt't work after Time Machine restore
Hi,
I just restored my system via Time Machine. After this action my InputManagers doesn't work anymore. I deleted and reinstalled them already, but this didn't work either.
How can I enable the InputManagers? Or can I completely delete Safari and reinstall it?
Thanks...Did you restore the entire contents of your Mac from the Time Machine backup? Was Time Machine backing up everything?
Try booting with an "option" key held down. That will show the internal disk volume if it has a bootable copy of OS X on it.
You might try installing OS X over the top of what's currently on the disk. If that doesn't help, erase the disk, install OS X on it, then use Setup Assistant (unless I'm misremembering and it's actually Migration Assistant) to transfer the TIme Machine contents again.
Incidentally, after things are working again, the first time Time Machine runs it will back up everything again.
