ILife eats into HD capacity

I installed iLive 06 on my iBook with 10 Gig available space (30Gig HD) and I lost 6.5 Gig space.. I don't have a superdrive so I deleted anything to do with DVD creating/ burning as well as Garage Band.. I noted in the install there was lots of add ons for Garage Band (loops)and iMovie (templates) as well as all manner of sound effects and templates as part of the various components of iLife.. the install was over 20 min.. I had iLife 05 installed and chose "upgrade" as the install option.. I ran delocalizer after the install.. I now have 4.5 Gig space.. still far less than when I began.. can anyone help with where I can clean up/delete/remove and gain some space?

Beware of only keeping only one copy of a music file on your iPod. If you drop it or the iPod needs to be restored, you will not have any copies of your music!
Buy some more HD space (external hard drives are not that expensive) or make backups with CDs or DVDs. Or prepare to re-rip all your commercial CDs.

Locate the .caf file you want to use in FCP in the Finder. Normally, iLife sound files will be in Macintosh HD/Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/iLife Sound Effects/(subfolder).
Open the file on SoundTrack Pro, the go to File->Save a Copy As. In the Save As window that will open, navigate to where you want to save the file, then near the bottom of that window, use the drop-down File Format menu to choose AIFF. Set the bit depth to 16-Bit Integer and the Sampling Rate to 48000 hz.
Import the resulting AIFF file into your FCP project.

Why can't I install iLife '06 into my iBook G4?

When I tried to install, iLife'06, i was unable to,because iLife requires 6.96gb of space- the capacity is 37.14GB and I have only 1.1GB available- I checked the capacityof allmy applications- it is 6.48GB, Pictures use 4.65GB and Library 2.7GB-this is less that 15GB and they are my largest users -BUT Apple info tells me that i use 36.01GB on disk-
What do I need to do to dump about 6 or 7 GB to free up space for iLife and where am I using so much space-
Or do I just buy more GB?- I can't imagine that i use 36.01GB -

Are you counting the Users folder as well? You'd be surprised at how much space your user folder can take up when you've got a ton of music, video, and other files. If that doesn't get close to adding up, try running Disk Utility from the OS X install disc.

Imporing iDVD 5 (iLife 05) into DVD SP 3/4?

I've got a music theatre project on iDVD 5 that I'd need to import into DVDSP 3 to do further interactive work but I get an error on trying to import. I've tested it by creating a simple movie in iDVD4 and iDVD5. In DVDSP3 I can import the iDVD4 OK but not the iDVD 5, even when I save it as an archive. Firstly any way around this since short of not using iDVD5 anymore?
Secondly, will DVDSP 4 import iDVD 5? Would there be any joy in upgrading to DVDSP4 even if I could; there are immediate probs for me because of the fact that I want to keep using my Digidesign Digi001 digital audio interface. I suffered from the well known problem with upgrading to OSX 10.3.9, iTunes 4.8, QT 7 and the Digidesign CoreAudio driver 6.9. I ended up having to reinstall my OS and users from scratch and only upgrading to my current setup OSX 10.3.8, iTunes 4.8, QT 6.5.2, Digi CoreAudio 6.9 and my Digi001 works just fine. It was a nightmare and QT7/7.0.1 is the big issue until Digi get around to possibly updating the CoreAudio driver, which is not likely to be soon. There is a reasonable possibily that I might be OK in upgrading to OSX 10.3.9 but NOT QT7.

Lion upgrades. Will it be available on disk? 4Gig will eat into my data, and do I have to download three times for my three macs? Can you only get server if you have snow leopard server already or can snow leopard be upgraded to server at the same price?

What about cloned backup drives? Can those drives be moved to another machine? Filemaker 1 in 1984 through Filemaker Pro 8.5 allowed you to run the software off an external drive. With Filemaker 9 they moved to a file scheme that required calling in and uninstalling from one cpu and installing to a new cpu. That would have been fine if Filemaker would answer their phones. It was a horrible experience, something Mac users would not tolerate back in the eighties.
With the Apple Store, you could avoid calling in but their system has to be online for you to make your transition. Because Apple sells hardware, they should continue to build some costs into the hardware and continue ease of use. Microsoft can't do that. That is why I do not use Microsoft products except Office.

If your three macs are similar, installing to an external firewire drive may or may not still work as a boot device. It has been nice to be able to boot from a backup drive instead of just recover files from a backup.

DVD drive won't recognize iLife '08 install CD

First generation G5, Mac OS 10.4.11
When I insert the install CD for iLife '08 into the drive, it spins away for about a minute and then ejects it with no error message. The same install CD works fine on my laptop. Other install CD's work on this same G5.
Anything I can try to get my Mac to open the iLife '08 install CD? If not, can I download the iLife '08 install files without having to purchase it again?

Do you have another mac?. .I would try to transfer the files from one mac to the other one . I did that for dvd studio pro and it worked out fine . If you have a router setup in your house turn on the file sharing option . You can also try to run your other mac to transfer the files too. I can also tell to use a back up drive and load the file to it . As for why it wont load off the dvd Im not for sure on that one .

Logic 7.1.1, Tiger 1.4.2 EATING Audio Files!

Ever since upgrading to Logic 7.1.1 Logic is now having intermittent problems specifically with cutting portions of audio. When a cut (Cmd-X) is performed in the audio editor, I receive an unexpected EOF error (-39) and the end of whatever audio file I'm editing has now been OVERWRITTEN with the contents of the clipboard (cut). If you catch this in time, you can undo it but if you edit large numbers of files in batch it's a pretty nasty gotcha. I'm going to have to duplicate a LOT of work to fix this. I've got someone else also in my shop, with an identical (hardware wise) machine who is experiencing similar difficulties.
I have tried dumping Logic preferences, rebuilding audio units, importing one audio file at a time into a new project and the results are the same.
Also, the supposed 'speedup' of edits/overview updating turned out to be a huge slow down.
Two thumbs down on this upgrade!
Now that I've ranted. Has anyone experienced similar problems and have you found any solutions to them?

No, you misunderstand me, i wasn't suggesting you should defrag, i was asking if you had defragged.
Keep a healthy amount of free space on the drive and you should be OK. (For optimum drive performance, about 1/3 should be kept free anyway) Defragmentataion is not necessary, and if you do want to, just copy the drive content to another drive, wipe, and copy back again.
The other thing I was concerned about was if you had all your audio on your startup, used up all the space and the swap file started eating into your most recent files. (though it's usually prefs files that get chewed up first.) But i can see from your reply that you are not in that position anyway.

Updated to Tiger. Now unable to install iLife '05

A while back I wanted to upgrade from OS 10.2 to Tiger. I didn't have a DVD drive (just a regular CD-RW drive) so I bought a Pioneer DVR-110 super drive and installed it. At the time I didn't have all of my files backed up, so I didn't choose the erase and install option...I just chose the option to update the OS and keep the data.
After I performed the OS upgrade to Tiger, I then installed iLife '05. Everything seemed to work fine except there were a few items in the trash which would never seem to empty. Also, my computer was running a little bit slower.
After about one month, the finder frequently would "not respond" to certain basic commands such as opening files and folders.
To remedy the situation, I backed up all of my data onto DVD's and decided to perform an erase and install of Tiger. Things seemed to work fine. However, when I tried to install iLife again, the installer would not properly open. The Finder would still issue me the warning "not responding" and I seemed to be stuck. I opened disk utility and ran a verification and the verification passed. I thought that was weird so I ran the verification again and was told the volume needed to be repaired; inconsistent results. I wasn't sure if it was the installation disk or not, so I took the disc over to the local electronics store (by the way, I live in Japan, but all of my stuff was bought in the US) and inserted the iLife DVD into the stores iMac. The DVD checked out fine and the installer came up the way it should. So, I know there is something wrong with my computer, but not quite sure what.
My Power Mac G4 Dual 533 MHz is running with firmware 4.1.8f5. Could this be a firmware issue? There is a firmware update available, but it's been available for quite some time and I've never needed it before. In addition, my computer didn't give me any firmware warnings. I don't think it's the DVD player because it's worked fine before (didn't need to install any drivers before) and I can insert other DVD's and they work fine. It's just the iLife install DVD that is acting up.

Thanks for your replies. I have backed up my data, reinstalled OS 10.4 by performing an erase and install, and am still having issues. Since I essentially started from scratch, I don't really know what to do. Things I still can't do:
-Start up from the OS 9 cd. I am trying to update my firmware, but can't because I can't run OS 9. The firmware update requires running OS 9 from the hard disk. I currently don't have OS 9 installed.
-Open the iLife DVD to install the software. Everytime I try opening the install DVD, the finder freezes.
-Update to later versions of OS 10. Everytime I try to update, applicable installer says I cannot perform the necessary update.
I removed third party memory and re-installed OS 10.4 again, but that didn't solve the problems I'm having. Does anybody have any ideas????

Capacity leveling log showing duplicate information for Resource

Need one help.
When I am looking into the Capacity leveling logs, I see duplicate information for every Resource. There is no difference in the information regarding resource utilization (before/after). For every resource we are getting this duplicate records in the logs. Sometime there is one difference on timing, (when the resource was processed by the background job.)

There is no difference in details resource utilization, yet resource are shown two times, for every resource.
We are on SCM 7.0 . Is this standard? if so, then why?

Hi Satyajit,
This can happen because of resource setting in APO.
You need to check the following:
Bucket definition
Resource utilization
Time Zone
You should check also the "Time-Cont Capacity" tab details where start, end and break time is maintained,
You should also verify the "External Capacity" Tab data
There is no other reason apart from that.
You can also check the PPMs which are using this resource and some setting in PPM modes and other operation data.
If it is okay then possibility you need to check the model and version assignments.
You can remove the version assignment and delete the resource and again CIF it to APO.
Possibly it will help.

Can't import .avi files into Captivate 4

I need some help, I'm getting really frustrated. My project consists of about 10 short movies (2-3 minutes each) with quiz questions between the movies. The movies were produced in Adobe Premiere Elements 2 and exported as .avi files. When I go to import the files, I get this error: "This AVI file cannot be converted into a Adobe Flash file. Conversion aborted."
I have tried converting the .avi files into .flv files (using Flash Video Encoder CS3), but that doesn't work for us for two reasons. Captivate won't display the .flv files while in edit mode; it will only play them after the entire project has been produced. After the project has been produced, however, the video of the .flv displays, but the audio from ALL of the .flv files in the project plays at the same time, rendering all of the dialogue unintelligible.
I have been trying to solve this problem for a couple of weeks now, but I'm not getting anywhere. Is there a specific codec I should be trying to use here? Is there another process I should be using? Is there a way that I can resolve the .flv issues?

I'm OCD about this sort of stuff, too!
I just insert my .avi files as animations, and that seems to work fine, so I'm no help there.
I don't know enough about codecs to even comment. *sigh*
And, my problem with .flv's has always been the other way around. When I insert an .flv, it always asks for the absolute path (like C:\Videos\VideoName.flv). Then, right before I create the .zip to upload to the LMS, I have to edit the path to VideoName.flv, and then check to make sure the file is on the .zip root, otherwise it won't play on the LMS 'cause it "can't find the file."
Sorry I couldn't be of any more help, but if you're like me, at least you can get your work done while this eats into your mind and eventually drives you crazy. *grin*

I have a website w/ iLife '06/iWeb now. How would I convert to iLife '08?

If I buy iLife '08, *how will it "blend" in with or subsume my existing iWeb '06 website files?* Since I am an intermediate level non-techie, I would like the transfer to be automatic, or to have the option for clicking it to be automatic. I like the new iWeb and the new iPhoto and want to re-do my existing website using those new photograph features.
*What would be involved in my converting my existing iWeb website to a spruced-up one?* Is it piecemeal? How have others dealt with this?
Another question:
Could it be that ALL of the iLife '06 gets subsumed under the 'Life '08 umbrella?
I don't want to take any steps that would be difficult to reverse or put right.

I'm considering getting the new 24" iMac, and if I do, iLife '08 comes installed with it. If I buy that iMac, how, then, do I get my existing iWeb '06 files to be incorporated into the iWeb '08 program? Would I just drag my old files into iWeb '08? Or would I just drag my old iLife '06 into the iLife '08 program?

It doesn't. iWeb08 will take your current Domain.sites file, and "upgrade" it to a Domain.sites2 file. Make certain that a few copies of your current Domain.sites file (iWeb06) are on your big external drive! I seem to recall that you more or less cloned everything to a large external drive some time ago.

You'll just have to look at a version of your current site in iWeb08, once the site is upgraded. Things may go well; they may not. You will just have to see. You will like the new features though, like inserting html wherever you want it on the page, and changing hyperlink colors right in the application itself.

You will simply bring a copy of your Domain.sites file (iWeb06) from your external drive to your new iMac, and double-click it. iWeb08 will prompt you to click "upgrade", and the application will do the rest for you! It's not hard to do at all. I'm curious to see how you fare with an 08 upgrade to your site, knowing you have all the photo albums that you do.

Problems with ilife'11

I have a macbook air and ilife was preinstall in it.
But, when appear new sotfware, I can't download it because my ID hasn't a relation with my the ilife.
What can I do?

Ignore the info about Software Update, that is out-of-date information.
Unfortunately you were supposed to Accept your preinstalled iLife apps into your iTunes.Mac App Store account when you first setup your new Mac, but no one told you about it. Try these steps and see if it lets you accept the apps, which should then allow you to update;
1 - Exit iTunes and the Mac App Store (MAS)
2 - Delete /Macintosh HD/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/adoption.plist
3 - Reboot your Mac
4 - Go to System Prefs/Users & Groups/~user/Password and enter the Apple ID connected to your iTunes.Mac App Store account. Close Sys Prefs
5 - Open Mac App Store and sign into your account from the Store menu
6 - Go to the Purchased pane and Accept the three iLife apps
7 - Select Updates. Enter iTunes/MAS username/password if prompted.
If this does or does not work could you return and tell us what happened?

Couple of combinations you should check,
1. First try to identify "Selection Profile" which is used. In "CM01" go to menu Planning->Profiles->Selection Profile.
2.Check the defination of this profile using transaction "OPA2". Here you need to look for "Work center Set" which is assigned.
3. Now look at the defination of the workcenter set using transaction "CMS3", here is were we define as how the list is to be fetched.
