ILife Installer Disc won't let me re-install GarageBand

GarageBand '11 (6.0.5 (428.5)) keeps crashing on me.  So I'm considering reinstalling the software from my iLife '11 Family pack DVD.
As you can see from the following screenshot, all the relevant boxes on the custom installer are greyed out. iPhoto and iLife Support (whatever that is) are set to be upgraded where, as far as I know, they are the latest versions and the only option I seem to have is to upgrade 'Sounds and Jingles'.

I'm surprised that the last option wasn't done when I first installed iLife '11.
So I'm wondering how I can re-install just GarageBand.  Should I delete it first?  If so, will I also need to delete any support files too?  Or may I leave those alone?  In other words, if I delete the GarageBand. app will the Installer notice this and permit me to select only GarageBand for reinstall?
GarageBand crashes when using th Guitar Chord Tutor.  Down the the bottom right of the screen is a volume control set at zero (silent). If I mouse over it to change the setting, GarageBand quits send a report to Apple.  I have checked my HDD over, repaired permissions and run Disk Warrior. Still crashes.  Next I will 'Safe Boot', the run TinkerTool or MacJanitor to clear all caches.  If none of this works, then I may want to reinstall GarageBand.

  • Won't let me click install

Hi, I have Adobe Creative Suite 6 Design Standard all ready to install on my MacBook Pro with serial number (validated) and internet (but all windows/programs closed), but right when I get to the window that says "install" or customize, it won't let me click Install. It changes color when I click it, but does nothing.
I tried to quit then put disc back in, but no dice.
    Ideas?

copy the installation files from your cd to a desktop directory and install from that directory.
make sure you have no antivirus/antimalware running.  if that fails, start in safe mode and then install from that directory.

I have moved to uk from ireland and bought new iphone, set up using my existing Apple ID account and profile but won't let me buy install or update apps??
Can anyone advise me on what I need to do?
My existing account is linked to ireland as my bank account details are there, does this make a difference?
    Please help!

Until you get a UK bank account and credit card, buy and redeem UK iTunes gift cards for use in the iTunes and Mac App Stores. But you need to switch your region/country to the UK store in your account information, as you can't use UK iTunes gift cards in the Irish stores, the gift cards are country specific.

Your post somehow found its way to a little-viewed forum for an obsolete Apple productivity program. I have asked the Hosts to move you to a more appropriate forum for your product.

  • ILife 06 installation disc won't run/error message

    Hi,
a few months ago we bought a macbook which came with iLife 06. The installation disc for iLife says good for 5 computers in the same household. When I try to install if on our older G4, (running 10.4.8), I put the disc in and I get the following error message when I click on the iLife 06 icon:
"there is no default application specified to open the object "iLife 06"
I've tried repairing permissions, but same thing. Not sure where to go from here...any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    meganou
    macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The readme on the install disc says PPC or Intel-based
    That answers that query.
Am I in the right forum..?
This is as good as any, since there isn't a dedicated forum to iLife installatiion probems.
Since you get the same result in a new admin account, you might consider reinstalling the latest COMBO update for your machine, restarting, repairing permissions with Disk Utility, and trying again. Report back.

  • Trying to install windows 7, installation disc won't eject when it needs to. Help please?!?!?!

When setting up bootcamp I install windows 7, it then asks me to eject the installation disc to continue the installation but at this point the disc will NOT eject. Help please?!?!?!
If I cancel the installation it'll eject the disc but it is at this point that I need to in order to continue and it just won't eject. I've tried the eject button, cmd E, starting again but I don't seem to be getting anywhere :s

Sorry I'm a little late, my e-mail notifications died, I was wondering why it was so quiet. Here I thought I was getting better at this.
Have you tried the USB thumb drive W7 installer way? I know 10.7 has an option now for installing a W7 installer iso onto a USB thumb drive but I don't know if 10.6 does. Search Google/yahoo for more information. Basically just make an iso of the W7 installer and copy it to the USB drive and it will boot via USB.
At least I think yours can? Not sure which models work.
Have you tried one of those CD disk cleaners? I bought one years ago and worked like a charm. (if it's dirty) It has a row of real fine bristles.
Other then that you may have a dying drive?
As far as games, make sure they are updated to run W7, other then that, that's Windows for ya.....

  • Leopard installer disc won't eject...

    Hi,
I'm getting really frustrated... got tons of work to do, and I can't use my mac. I accidentally rebooted my mbp with leopard's installer disc inside. Now every time my mac boots it will enter leopard's installation. I tried the CommandOption+OF thing, nothing happened.. I'm getting desperate..
    Thanks!

Don't know how the OP did it, but you have two easy choices: restart while holding down the trackpad button--that will caused the DVD to eject; alternatively, restart while holding down the option key. That will open a window that allows you to choose the startup volume. Pick the one on your MBP rather than the Leopard DVD and it will boot from the HD.

  • Tiger installation disc won't eject and won't open.

My hard disk crashed on my Powerbook G4. I have the aluminum 17 inch with 1.0 mhz. I had OS X 10,4.7 installed on it. I bought a new hard drive from iFixit.com with more memory. The installation seemed to go OK. I put my Tiger installation disc in and nothing happens. I can turn on the computer but other than the light in the door opener nothing happens. I can't eject the Tiger disc now. I have tried the eject button, starting it up with the mouse key pressed down, starting up with the option key depressed and nothing works. I tried getting into it manually with tweezers and I couldn't grab it. Do I need to install from the original Software install and restore disc? If so, how can I get the Tiger disc out so I can get the original installation disc in. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also might try holding down the Option Key during bootup.
Is that a Wired Mouse? Many times a Wireless one wont be seen during boot.

  • How do I get an Installation Disc for Lion after I already installed it.

I am furious, with myself and Apple.... I started this journey of upgrading to Lion soley because I needed to increase the capacity of the HD on my early 2008 MBP. I saw that it was much easier with Lion, I didn't see or understand the part about only on brand new computers...
I have already upgraded the HD once before and had NO PROBLEMS... Time Machine back up and all that.
I am only a Mac user for 3 years... I love it... But some preconceptions die hard...
LIKE ....WHY CAN'T I MAKE A DVD OF MY INSTALL DISC AFTER THE INITIAL INSTALLATION OF LION?????? ESPECIALLY SINCE I DIDN"T GET ONE IN THE FIRST PLACE???
Yea, I didn't read the fine print, I had to make one at the time of installation.... I didn't know that I wouldn't be given the chance again????
Darn Darn Darn.... I only upgraded as a step along the path of upgrading the Hard Drive.... NOW I CAN"T WITHOUT MAJOR HEADACHES.... Grrrrrr
    LOL
So, Apple... if you are gonna distribute your OS this way... fine... but jeez, how about making it so we can get an installation disc after we missed the chance on initial installation???
    What do I do?

Thank you... I will take your advice and relax...
    OK will do.
As you can tell, I totally disagree with apple on this.... It should be a DEFAULT that the ability to make a DVD start up disc is always there... not the other way around.
I have spent hours on this upgrade... upgrading the Snow Leopard, upgrading to Lion, Installing new hardware, re-installing new hardware, re-installing the old hardware...
Some people, like myself, have the ability to DIY, but I don't have the incredible highly detailed inside knowledge that I apparently have to possess...
    Thanx

  • Macbook won't let me re-install

My daughters Macbook will not let me re-install the OS with Lion… it ask's me to provide App store ID which I am putting in and passwords are correct.. then say's the the app store is temporarily unavailable yet on other apple devices there is not a problem..?.. I have also made sure we are connected to the wireless network..
Firstly the problem began as her macbook would not start at all… even in safe mode and was showing a lot of errors in the background (black screen like dos system) I was unable to do anything there …. then i went to re-install and i had also erased the Mac Hd as I was following another persons apple directions so then to re-instal…..
Would love some guided directions on how to get her macbook fixed without having to go to the store and pay someone to do it..

  • Original Mac Pro Installation Discs won't allow me to reinstall!

    Hi All
I just got hold of a second hand Mac Pro. All seems good until I notice that there's no iPhoto on it, and thats a bit of a must as its for a Photography Studio!
Went to install from the "Mac Pro Applications Install DVD" and get an error:
Alert: You cannot install this software on your computer
So I thought I'd just reinstall the whole system (don't really have time to spend hours troubleshooting) but I get the same problem with the "Mac Pro Max OS X Install DVD".
So any ideas? The discs came in the box with the Mac and everything else seems ok.... has someone fobbed me off with the wrong discs?
    Cheers
    Mark

The disks it came with aren't for that model, aren't OEM
And it would have been better to "troubleshoot" the iPhoto, though I would say it isn't a Pro app or one that a Studio would rely on and use.
    A box set of retail OS X + iLife/iWork
    2006 had dual / dual-core, and 2009 had a single processor quad-core.
5GB though won't take you very far.
If the Install DVD says "10.4.x" what do you see inside or in System Profile about hardware model, graphic card, processors, type of RAM?

  • Snow leopard installation disc won't boot. Can I reset computer to boot from internal hard drive at startup?

I recently installed snow leopard on my macbook (mid 2006). I used system preferences to set the snow leopard boot disc as the install disc, and now my computer won't boot. It stalls at the apple icon with the grey screen. Is there any way I can set my computer to reboot from my internal hard drive at startup without having access to system prefernces (a keyboard code or something)?

Thank you so much for responding.  I actually just pushed the trackpad button at startup.  It ejected the install disc and automatically booted from the internal.  I am sure your method would have worked as well.  Thanks again!

  • Windows 8 Installation Disc Won't Load UEFI-only (T420s). Also does T420S support Secure Boot?

    Question 1:
I am unable to load the Windows 8 Installation DVD in UEFI (only) mode on my T420s. As a result, I can only run the installer in Legacy mode (or both UEFI/Legacy which effectively means the same thing). This in turn means Windows 8 is installed in Legacy BIOS mode.  Any idea how to install it in UEFI mode?
I am using a DVD burned using the Windows utility from the Windows 8 64-bit ISO and have followed the instructions in HT073269, however I am unable to get to step 1 of the Windows 8 install after updating the BIOS, resetting to defaults, and switching to UEFI-only. On boot, after switching to UEFI-only, I am presented with a bootloader and prompted to select which drive to boot (DVDRAM or SSD). Selecting either makes the screen go blank for a moment and then returns back to the same screen with no result.
Since then I have searched these forums extensively and Googled Technet, Notebook Review, and other sites to no avail. I've tried several several ideas, including using diskpart > clean to get the SSD in raw status (per HT051844). That did not make a difference. I also tried converting a Legacy-BIOS install of Windows 8 to UEFI using CharlyAR's instructions on TechNet (linked from another thread here). That seemed to get me to a Windows Boot Loader but still errored out and Windows Repair was unable to fix it.
    Any suggestions?
Also, question 2:  Does anyone know if the T420S support secure boot? If not, any idea if it's slated for a future firmware update?

Secure Boot is a certificate-based approach to preventing rootkits, not the same thing as UEFI. Although Secure Boot requires UEFI, having UEFI does not mean having the additional Secure Boot feature. If Secure Boot is available, typically there will be an option to enable it in the firmware configuration. Since the latest firmware for the T420S (ver. 1.35) does not have such an option, I suspect ThorsHammer is correct that Secure Boot is not (yet) supported on the T420S. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Lenovo will tell us that a firmware update is on its way though.
My understanding is that it will never support secure boot.  The secure boot support starts at Ivy Bridge and the T430s.
